My husband and I came here for my birthday recently as we wanted to try a new restaurant. The restaurant is classified as "fine dining", but you definitely do not have to dress up for the occasion; I read a couple reviews with people who put quotes around certain words like: "classy" and "fine dining" and I felt, in my opinion, it's not what you'd think- so take that information as you will and wear whatever you want. We made reservations online due to the fact that it was graduation week for Chico State and the process was easy. We were seated immediately, the restaurant is a little bigger than expected because we were seated in the back section of the restaurant. But - definitely small at the same time because in the front of the restaurant is the bar and right next to the bar are the bathrooms; if there are people standing around the bar, there is no room to move around them. (When we were there those standing around the bar were are barely aware of their surroundings and didn't move for you to get through) Our server was vibrant and nice, he made sure to mention the new items for the week and hyped up each dish we chose to order; he even remembered that we were there for a birthday (as I added this comment in the reservation). However there were little mishaps, for example : my husband said no anchovies in his Cesar salad... when the salad was brought: anchovies. Our server took all my utensils when he cleared our table and left me with nothing; he noticed and said: "I will bring you an extra fork for your dinner." - welp , no fork was brought.. We both got pasta: I got the shrimp Alfredo, he got the Alfredo and added meatballs... I raised my hand to try to get our servers attention, but that didn't happen so my husband gave me his fork and he ate his pasta with a spoon. (Don't try it). I think our server was just a little frantic. When we got our food we agreed that the Alfredo sauce was a little watered down with not much flavor. (Had to add salt) but they did give big portions. At the end of the meal, we got brownies on the house for my birthday, which was nice. Overall, will we got back? Probably not. But- we did see a video online stating their calamari was the best thing on their menu, so MAYBE we will go back to try that.? Who knows. read more

Sicilian Café is way bigger on the inside than it looks. The outdoor bar area was completely full when we arrived, and the interior dining room was packed too--the crowd never really let up, which I think says a lot. We had reservations and were seated immediately. We started with the garlic bread and bruschetta, both of which were excellent. The mozzarella on the bruschetta was especially rich and buttery, definitely a standout. The moscow mule was refreshing, though I wish the ginger had a little more kick, and the cool strawberry mocktail was superb, not too sweet with the mint coming through. For mains, the spaghettini had naturally sweet tomatoes and a thick sauce that clung beautifully to the noodles. The scallops were fresh and sweet, though the mushroom risotto with saffron crème they sat on leaned tangy, which might be hit-or-miss depending on your palate. The chicken piccata was also quite tart, true to style. And the pork special was good too. We ended with the spumoni that was cherry-forward, and tiramisu, which was fantastic. We had a party of four for dinner and had a great time. Our server, Robert, was excellent and informative and the food was fine. When we arrived on an early Saturday evening, the place was full and loud. By 6:30 most had left and it became fairly quiet. The food was incredible and the house was very romantic! Sunya and Gianna were the absolute best!!!! I messed up and made my reservation for 730 instead of 7 and my girl had to be at work that night. This has been a family staple for generations and they've still got it! Multiple mocktail options available! I had the strawberry mint one and it was spectacular! Antipasti came out as usual, salami, cheese, olives and carrots for all. We ordered garlic bread, bruschetta caprese and gluten free calamari which was amazing! The Caprese was the winner for those who had bread. We ordered gluten free veal piccata, veal Marsala and two scallop entrees. The green salad with half and half balsamic and bleu dressing is still as good as it was years ago! Thanks for keeping this wonderful quality establishment going for so long! Service: The elderly guy running around having everybody singing happy birthday to one table or another is pure annoyance. Have taken the drive from RB for this restaurant several times in the last year, and each time been quite pleased! Classy interior, not stuffy, good energy- obviously people enjoying themselves! Food is first class, for everything we have tried, but keep coming back for the veal marsala-- tender slices of veal in a sauce that is just to die for! Our server explained that a big party had come in and slowed some things down. All of the staff were very kind and attentive. Wow! Cosi buono! Stopped in after some holiday shopping and had the most delicious lemoncello drop and the famous calamari ----and did not disappoint . The calamari were tender and breaded in a scrumptious seasoning and came with plenty of lemon slices and a delicious dip with a hint of garlic to heighten the bite. Not bad not bad. Favorite was by far the veal picatta. Savory, salty, tart, and tender. Absolutely delicious. The complimentary bread, oil and balsamic, and the little olive, meat, and cheese plate was fine, but in my opinion, they should just offer one and make them both excellent. Both were fine but nothing to write home about. The chicken soup was the best I ever had and I still think about it. The clam chowder was good but paled in comparison. Service was great. Quick and friendly. No complaints. Ambience was nice, a bit upscale. This place is really popular with elderly folks we noticed. Overall verdict is I'm glad I tried it because i had been wanting to for a long time but it also wasn't good enough for me to want to spend $93 plus tip for 2 people. read more

We recently went to the Sicilian Cafe with a party of 7 on a Friday night. We had reservations for 6:00 and the place was lively and busy. We were seated right away and after about 5 minutes our server showed up to take our drink orders. The cocktails were good and arrived about 10 minutes later at which time our server took our food order. we were then ignored for about 20 minutes at which time the anti pasta and bread arrived, for those of you who are good at math that is 35 minutes for the bread to show up. Our soup and salads showed up about 30 minutes after that and the entrees did not arrive until almost 8:00pm. Now we were expecting a leisurely Italian dining experience but it should not take over an hour and a half from ordering to eating. We had an engagement at 8:30 across town and had assumed that 2 hours would be more than enough time for dinner. As it was, by the time we got our food we had to request to go containers and had to leave. Didn't even get to eat our $400 meal. Quite disappointing and an evening killer as one might imagine. I would, however, like to be fair to the establishment. Our server did realize that the food was very delayed and offered to comp us a second round of drinks but since we had an engagement across town we could not take them up on the offer. I would also like to mention that the meal which I am eating as leftovers today is delicious. That said, I will not return to the Sicilian Cafe. read more

This is the second time I have eaten at the Sicilian Cafe and if I could I would give it a 10 Star Rating and our waiter, Robert, a 12 Stars. When I was here before on October 2nd it was my birthday and my daughter and her husband treated me to a fabulous birthday dinner. I have never forgotten the dinner I had, I had the Scallops and I have been waiting for the day I could drive the 50 miles to get back and have them again. I took my two daughters and their husbands for dinner at the Sicilian Cafe. Again the food was the best that you could ever find, any where. Our Waiter, Robert treated us as if we were the only ones he was waiting on. It was like he was watching us and before you could summon him he was there with what ever it was that we needed. I dropped my fork and there he was with a clean one. I watched as he was there for the several other tables he was waiting on. The food was Fantastic and the service was also. Went here for dinner for the first time on Saturday and I can't believe we waited so long. Our server was Robert and he was lovely! He had great recommendations and everything we ordered was fantastic. The calamari is a must! My husband and I upgraded our salads and they were fresh and delicious. My mom got the regular salad and the Italian dressing was a bit tangy, would order on the side. We loved our entrees! It was nice to be able to try so much. All were incredible but I will be back for the prawns scampi! You can't order wrong here. I highly recommend whatever they have on special! I had the special bolognese and it had amazing flavor. Plus the noodles are so fresh. The whole staff was amazing but especially our server Robert and Finley who helped bus and bring us bread. If I could give negative stars I would. My husband and father-in-law dined of a Wednesday evening. The food was mediocre but what sticks in my head is the service. Not just bad - awful. There were these young servers, fetching beverages, that sort of thing, and they were camped out close to our table. They were having the best time at work and made sure we all knew about it. Laughing, joking, loudly, some slightly inappropriate comments about an elderly woman who had removed her dentures prior to eating her meal. Very hard to enjoy a meal and conversation with all that going on. In addition, my father-in-law had several questions about the menu, and let's just say - our server was visibly annoyed. So, we ate, paid the check, tipped appropriately, and left. I keep seeing their ads on FB - so I blocked them only because I couldn't let the opportunity to comment go by. Sicilian Cafe continuously messages me to try to make it right, and I have asked them to stop. Our experience was so unpleasant, we don't WANT the opportunity to "try again." I have read these other reviews, so maybe my experience was just a random off-night. But for the $$$$$, I would definitely have expected a better ambiance, atmosphere, and professionalism all the way around. read more

Best restaurant in Chico bar none. I used to go here when it was on Walnut street back in the 80s and now they have moved but still doing everything right. I left Chico after college and raised a family in the Bay Area. My wife and I moved back to Chico 6 years ago and the first thing I did was take her to the Sicilian Cafe. It didn't disappoint. The food and service is always top notch and the elegant atmosphere makes for a wonderful "fine dining" experience. Everything on the menu is exceptional but we always gravitate towards the calamari appetizer with scampi and/or chicken Americana. This place is a solid gold winner! I went to this restaurant for my birthday with my husband a couple days ago and we both had such a great time. The restaurant is beautiful, the staff is friendly, service was great, and the food was phenomenal! Everything we tried was seriously top notch, and as a plus, there is a ton of parking outside this place, right across the street from the parking lot where the farmers market sets up Saturdays. We went there on a Saturday night only to find out that if you don't have a reservation you have to sit at the bar with a limited menu. Ridiculous! We planned on going there and ordering many of their specialty dishes, appetizers, wine etc. and we were unable to do that since we didn't have reservation. THE food was absolutely delicious. I ordered the veal scallopino with pasta. The sauce was wonderful. It also came with nicely seasoned vegetables and warm bread for our little group of three. It was a lot of food and I must confess I ate EVERYTHING! No take-home box for me! My husband ordered the bolognese and he took most of it home because he was so full. The next day when he finished it he said it was fabulous. Our waiter, Robert was a terrific server, fun and delightful, but he was also efficient and always aware of our needs. Additionally, the atmosphere of the restaurant is elegant. I would like to mention to the reviewer who complained that he wasn't treated well (had to sit at the bar) because he didn't have a reservation, may have noticed that this restaurant is PACKED for obvious reasons and a reservation is recommended if you don't want to be seated at the bar! Bar back asked us if he could assist us then bartender berated him for taking our orders. I admit I LOVED the quaint little spot the Sicilian was at over the creek, but this new spot (formerly Christian Michaels) is perfect! The food was amazing. Bruchetta was on point (and I'm picky as I make my own), the muscles were perfect combined with the noodles, and Mty FAVORITE was the calamari. Just ask them to bring out real cocktail sauce, and they will accommodate. Very attentive staff. Can't wait to go back!
