Wanted to try something different. So ordered from Ginger Sue's thru the Yelp app... First time I've done that... Really seamless and easy... Including making the payment. They used GrubHub and this was my first use of them as well. That too worked simply wonderful. Delivery was earlier than projected and that was nice. The food arrived fresh. It was all going so well. Didn't get fries... opted for the soup. Ug. It was creamed corn with maybe some flour paste and hot spices. So much pepper heat it was really inedible so we dumped it. So sad. The pork tenderloin was thin and huge... Overhanging the oversized bun. Didn't care for their mustard and they didn't add the dill pickle I asked for on mine. The breaded meat was tasty. It came with some kind of hot slaw... Again nothing either of us cared for. It didn't seem like something that paired well with this sandwich. So many of our friends love this place. We'll try them again later... But not the tenderloins. For this price point there are better tenderloins availabile elsewhere. read more

Have you ever been to a restaurant and said "I want what he is having"? You will say that about the potatoes because they taste just as good as they look and smell. I got something called a breakfast mash the last time I was there that had eggs, potatoes, peppers, and sausage... Delicious! Their pancakes are excellent as well, and HUGE! I ordered 2 because the price seemed too cheap for large ones and I was overwhelmed. I had their cobb salad during lunch on one visit and it was equally tasty. Only 2 minor gripes about the place. 1. I did not care for the peppered bacon, so on my next visit I asked for plain. The peppered bacon seemed like it was cooked fresh, while the plain was obviously precooked or a lesser quality of bacon (smaller, more rubbery). 2. The quality of coffee is less than you would expect for a place with a $3000+ espresso machine. I ordered a latte on my first visit that was sub par. I also tried some regular coffee that was extremely weak. I have made better espresso shots at home with my old Giggia Classic, a $20 burr grinder and coffee from Big Lots. read more

I was looking for a new place for breakfast in Lees Summit, and Ginger Sue's is great. The noise level wasn't as bad as some of the previous reviews have reported, but the decor is a little lacking. Looks very plain, especially for a place with such a great name. I was surprised when the waitress said they've been there for two years, because it looks like they just moved in. Anyway, enough about the silly decor. The FOOD. The breakfast was amazing. One of the best pancakes I've ever had. They are also HUGE, so watch out for that when deciding how many to order. Let me start off by saying we don't go out for breakfast like we used to and so when we do it's a big deal. I really wanted to like this place, overall I'm giving it a 3, and those stars go directly to the food. It was a yummy meal BUT the "latte" was like lukewarm milk, no flavor of pumpkin detected or caffeine at that. We didn't get our pancakes until halfway through our meal. Ate there for the first time last week with the hubby for lunch. I had the tenderloin with fries. He had the veggie burger with Apple slaw. All was yummy and delicious.... the fries were just okay. The tenderloin was cookbook good on a buttered bun that it tasted very naughty for my health. Some how it did not make me feel fat and overly full afterwards! No indigestion problems and I actually felt pretty good. In fact I totally craved it again the next day.... and the next LOL. Veggie burger is very soft but obviously home made. My husband loved it but said next time he's going to order without the bun. Service was perfect, not overly doting and not totally dismissive. Everyone was really friendly. I came here for breakfast the other day with my boyfriend. It's a shame this place isn't in a better location because it is a severely underrated restaurant in Lee's Summit. We were seated right away upon arrival. I wish I had more to say about this place, but we were in and out SO fast, that we literally could not critique much of the process, haha. The total time it took from walking in, to ordering, eating and paying the bill was 30 minutes. The food was great for the price and taste. My boyfriend ordered a full stack (4 pancakes) of chocolate chip pancakes. The cost was about $5.75. **NOTE** THE PANCAKES ARE HUGE and most people can't really eat more than 1.5-2. They literally are the size of the large plate. I ordered the Aloha Awakea Omelette. The cmelette is made with ham, pineapple, cheese and shredded coconut on top. It comes with a side of toast and fresh fruit, or with breakfast potatoes. I ordered the fruit and whole grain bread. The omelette was fantastic - not too much coconut shredded over the eggs so the taste blended quite nicely. The only reason why I didn't give it a 5 was because the hot chocolate that I ordered before my meal wasn't very "hot/warm" at all. The Lee's Summit Ginger Sue's has the same simple menu as Liberty and the food was just as tasty as the food up North. I enjoy their seasoned potatoes immensly and their applewood bacon is scrumptious. The Lee's Summit location lacks warmth. There is NO art of any kind on any of the walls. No decorations in corners...just table and chairs. Such a change from the hominess of the Libery restaurant. The waitress the morning we visited was competent but not overly friendly. We were very surprised they had been in that location for over a year. It had the feel of a just opened store. read more

I did find an eyelash but the manager took care of it. Offered a new plate right away and took the charge off our bill. I know this is suppose to be standard and she didn't question it too much, but not all restaurants are as receptive to their customers. Ginger Sue's Lee's Summit "Beware of carry out food, Check it before you leave." On Friday January 22, 2021, I ordered 4 Tenderloin sandwiches, fries, and soup. Over 60.00 plus a nice tip. My order was sacked up and stapled when I arrived. All 4 of the Tenderloins were over cooked and burned along with the fries. So dry that no one ate it. I called the next day and spoke with a manager who apologized and said she would pass the message to the cook. At no time did she offer to make things right. So, we will cross buying from Ginger Sue's off our list! And shame on them to give anyone burned food. Not acceptable! Waste of money. read more

This place is very unsanitary. From my experience working around in food places, this place is horrible! While working here, there is many unclean dishes and silverware that is still wrapped and not replaced because they don't consider others and how unclean silverware could make them sick. The mugs are not washed at all but yet are still taken to people with coffee inside to hide the dirty in the cups because people "won't see." The managers are also very bossy and rude and give many people attitude not making it a good work environment. One word: average. I normally wouldn't choose this place, but I was in the area and my mom wanted to grab a bite. Ginger Sue's is what I would consider a senior citizen spot. Bland food, boring menu. Nothing exciting or unique. I left disappointed. I ordered the fish and chips (nothing else appealed to me at the time). Fries were crinkle cut with no seasonings. They tasted exactly like the frozen Ore Ida kind you would eat as a kid. The fish batter was very, very crispy. Not the yummy, flaky beer batter I had hoped for. It was golden and brown and kind of hard. I found myself picking off the overcooked bits. The fish tasted fresh and didn't have any issues. It was served with tiny portion of a vinegar slaw which was actually really good. It was the only flavorful thing on my plate. My senior mom however, hated it. I order a specialty pancake of a blueberry pancake with the compote and bananas inside the pancake. The bananas tend to make the pancake less dry... mmmm. But today we found out that if you don't like something that you're served - too bad, so sad, it's not coming off the bill. Someone in my party ordered one of the soup specials, took one spoonful, and said "nope". Manager would not take it off the bill. I can't think of one other restaurant that has this policy. Their breakfast potatoes are the best in the KC area, and their wheat toast is buttery perfection! The service is always great; however, it does get pretty busy during weekend Brunch hours/holidays. I cannot recommend this place enough! The pricing is reasonable and the menu is broad. I am always happy with what I order! We love going here for breakfast when we can. The food never disappoints, and the servers are very attentive...even when they are packed. Everything is farm fresh and homemade. We arrived at 10:20 am on a lovely summer Sunday and there were people waiting on the porch outside the restaurant - quite a few people. I was discouraged and wanted to try another place but my daughter insisted on checking. She came back to the car and said the wait was 15 minutes. Well, that's downright reasonable, so we stayed. I'm glad we stayed. The wait was only about 10 minutes - nice! We had an attentive server who was funny. We got our drinks immediately and we all got complimentary water as well as our other drink orders - nice #2! Our food was brought out super fast (nice #3), and the orders were all correct (#4). Now the really great part - oh my gosh was that food delicious! (#5,6,7 - because there were 3 of us). I had a build-your-own omelet with a biscuit and potatoes on the side. I asked if the potatoes were hash browns and our server said they were cut chunks and fried with rosemary - ok, I thought - I'll give it a go. I really, really hope I get a chance to come have those potatoes every month for the rest of my life because they were absolutely amazing. Oh my goodness... My daughter had a breakfast burrito which was more like a crepe, but she enjoyed it. Her boyfriend had biscuits and gravy and he said it was amazing. The only downfall of this lovely restaurant is the noise. I have hearing loss and loud restaurants generally mean that I can't hear a conversation at all. This was indeed the case. I didn't talk much because I was too busy eating - but if you and your dining partner need to have a conversation, you might want to go somewhere else. I understand you have days that aren't the greatest but the food was cold, hard and not worth eating. The manager was ok, came off kind of snobbish but I killed her with kindness. I am not sure how a breakfast place managed to sneak in under my radar in Lee's Summit, but I'm sure glad I discovered it. Going out to breakfast/brunch doesn't really fit my workdays, but I sure do love it on Saturdays. If it's near my house, more's the better. Given my limited exposure to anything north of the river, Ginger Sue's was a new one on me, despite their having a Liberty location. Like so many dining establishments in Lee's Summit (outside of the downtown), this lies in one of the many strip malls in one of the many business parks lining the town's thoroughfares. But because it's nestled off Douglas, and not super visible from the main street (better signage coming soon, I'd imagine/hope), you wouldn't necessarily know it's there unless you read it on Yelp (Thanks, Carol A.!) The place is quite sunny and spacious, with floor-to-ceiling windows on one side, and has really nice, blonde wood breakfast counter/coffee bar area, as well as tables and chairs and wall benches out in the main dining area. No artwork up yet, and it needs it, with lofted, industrial ceilings,and partial walls breaking up the space. The painting is nice and modern and clean,though. The food...I ordered a cafe au lait to start with, and it was very nicely done and served in a nice wide mug. BF wanted chocolate chip pancakes, which are portioned (like all their pancakes) to be bought as singles, double stack, or quadruple stack.. He was going to go for the four pancakes, but the server asked if we'd been there before, and when we said no, recommended the double stack, saying she'd bring more if he wanted more. Which was a good choice, as they were roughly the size of the hubcaps on the car we drove there. BF pronounced the pancakes great, with the chips stirred into the batter, not just tossed on top of plain pancakes, like they do 'em some places. I hemmed and hawed over the omelet choices, and went with the farmer's omelet, which featured fresh carrot shreds, tomato, mushroom, green onion, broccoli, parsley and goat cheese. So, so, so good. Eggtc. in the South Plaza has been my gold standard for omelets, but this was just as good and less than a mile from my front door. Omelets come with breakfast potatoes, and at Ginger Sue's, this means. skin-on, oven roasted, and tantalizingly flavored with I don't know what kind of seasoning, but they were delicious. Finally, a fluffy, pillow-like homemade buttermilk biscuit on the side with a pat of sweet cream butter on it...perfect I had this brunch at about 11 a.m., and wasn't hungry again until 7 that night (and that was even after playing two rounds of mini-golf in between brunch and dinner!) The service was super nice, the atmosphere nice and will get nicer once they get their decor more squared away, it's a little austere, now. Reasonably priced, and very, very clean (you can see into a bit of the prep area). Definitely a place that begs repeat visits. read more

Great News: Lee's Summit now has Ginger Sue's. Recently we traveled to Liberty, MO to try breakfast at Ginger Sue's. I reviewed it for Yelp and ended by saying it was my new favorite place for breakfast but it was too bad it was not nearer to where I live. Then I went to the website and found their Facebook page and low and behold: Ginger Sue's has opened a new location out in Lee's Summit just off of Douglas. I was so excited that we invited Sis to join us for breakfast today. When Dear Daughter #1 heard the news she invited herself to come along and also brought one of her daughters as well as her two grand-kids. The menu is exactly the same at both locations and the food was definitely the star attraction. I ordered a "weekly special" omelet featuring goat cheese, diced ham and mushrooms. The omelet came out light and fluffy and served with their great spiced breakfast potatoes and an excellent biscuit. Hubby had to do a rerun on the Cajun Crepe and DD#1 also had the crepe. Sis had a cheese omelet plate. My granddaughter had French Toast with a berry compote and it was so pretty, it looked so good, plus she reported it was delicious, that I just may have to order that next time. The great-grandbabies shared a pancake and kept the table entertained with their antics throughout the meal. Our server was very helpful and kept coffee cups and water glasses filled. This Ginger Sue's location is so new that there are not yet any pictures on the walls so it's not as cozy as the one just off the courthouse square up in Liberty. The space also suffers from the curse of being in a strip mall. But walls, floor and ceilings are freshly painted, carpeted, etc. and the attractive, light colored wood tables and chairs will make a cheerful background once the eventual theme is in place. Frankly, the quality of the food is such that it may take you a while to notice that the walls are unadorned. And once you start eating, you aren't likely to care about anything else but the good food. Ginger Sue's is a fine addition to this part of Lee's Summit and I think the locals are getting out the word because we didn't leave the restaurant until 11:30, and, by then, people were already beginning to come in and fill up the tables for lunch.
