Went here last Saturday and it so happened it was the last day before closing til next summer and it was all worth it. The corn rib were so delicious I can't even explain it. The tacos were so delicious beautiful done and that watermelon drink was out of this world. I don't like anything watermelon at all. So when I say it's was delicious it truly was. Walked past this establishment on Mother's Day. It looked like such a fun outdoor space. Shannon the beautiful hostess came out and tried to entice us to enter but since it was a rainy day and this is an outdoor place, my husband wouldn't go in. I knew I wanted to go back , so today I returned with my daughter and so happy I did. Shannon was there she was enthusiastic and welcoming. We sat at the bar. Such cool vibes. Norma was our bartender. She was attentive, kind, professional, she just made our day. Came here with a friend on a Tuesday night for happy hour, and we had a great time! It wasn't too crowded, and snagging a reservation was super easy. We started with drinks-- the Spicy Skipper and a Frozen Watermelon Margarita. Both were delicious, but be prepared for the prices! The margarita was *huge* at $20, and the Skipper set us back $18. Not cheap, but worth it for a night out. We also ordered the fish tacos (3 for $20), which were pretty tasty and a great pairing with our drinks. Service was quick, and the whole place has a really fun, summery vibe. You're surrounded by plants, with a mix of lounge-y tables--perfect for catching up with a friend or bringing a group. It did get busier around 7, so the early evening was just right for us. The only downside? The tiny flies (fruit flies, maybe?) that wouldn't leave us alone. We were in the corner with all the plants, though, so maybe that's why. Okay.. so.. where do I start? My first time at Gilligans was interesting to say the least. Probably my most unique cocktail bar experience but I'm still deciding whether or not that's a good thing. The location is great as far as commute goes. Not too deep in the city and a quick walk from multiple train stations. Anyway, my longtime friend is embarking on a new professional adventure and one of her current employees planned a going away party for her at Gilligans. I checked out their menu to plan ahead but nothing really stuck out to me and pictures on here were meh. For example, the crab dip sounded promising but the visuals posted here made it an immediate no for me. Other dishes looked good but their online menu indicated a lot of them were no longer on the menu which I also confirmed over the phone. I made sure to eat beforehand. When we arrived, I thought the entrance was pretty and that sentiment remained as we walked in. Very much rainforest vibes, lots of greenery. We were directed to keep walking to the back which is where the bar and a few tables were. Our party had the long conference style table smack dab in the middle of the floor. Again, super pretty and very aesthetic. But man oh man, it was hot. Hotter than outside for some reason, even though we were still.. outside! There was literally no ventilation. Not a fan in sight. It was almost as if we were trapped in a sauna. And as I'm saying hi to everyone, out of nowhere, a bunch of heavy mist starts spraying from all around us. That continued every 5-6 minutes or so for the rest of the night, I kid you not. On top of sweltering heat & mandatory showers- there was NO MUSIC! Turns out people in the neighborhood signed a petition of some sort and now they're not allowed to play music in any capacity. Not even some faint elevator music, just straight up middle school cafeteria vibes. It was very hard to enjoy myself, even with my trusty portable fan in hand. Their saving grace were the two bartenders that served us: John & Jean Carlos. The spicy skippers were delicious. The entire staff was welcoming and courteous in fact, idk how they tolerate working there though. I definitely won't be returning until they make some tweaks. Thank God I wore a hat and left my hair in its natural state. Probably the only reason why my makeup didn't melt off. One of our friends came in with a silk press and left with a mini fro. They would've had to reimburse me if I was her. It's actually kind of funny. I wonder who came up with the concept of an extremely hot, outdoor cocktail bar, with no ventilation, music, or reprieve in sight, accompanied by hidden water guns to torture suffering patrons-- and genuinely thought "This is genius." read more

Decided to meet up with my girls for Saturday brunch, and from the moment we sat down we had such a great experience. We arrived with two dogs and when we originally got seated, our table was a little crowded and overwhelming for our pups. Our server was so nice and accommodating when we asked to be moved to a more isolated table. We ordered their brunch pizza 10/10, squash blossom pizza 8/10, crudo dish 7/10, oysters 9/10, corn ribs 10/10, and guacamole 10/10. Their was three of us and we each had a 2 drinks. One our friends does not drink alcohol and their mocktail watermelon spritz was delicious. They also brought a water bowl for pups! As we're getting ready to pay our bill, their manager was so generous to comp our whole entire meal to our surprise! We were so thankful and glad they noticed how much we enjoyed our time there. Walking in u, don't really feel like you are in the city, nice tropical vibes as u enter it's pretty nice. No tables available so we sat at the bar area, which was nice minus the hot sun beaming on u, lucky if u sit under an umbrella so that was good for us. Drinks, of course had to try the Frozen Watermelon margarita, it was awesomeee, specially on a warm day! taste wise so good , refreshing & after a few u have quite the buzz. Appetizers we tried the Crab & Artichoke dip, warn dip on the Lavosh everything toast it was very tasty & hit the spot while we had our drinks. We found this place on maps while we were in the area and were pleasantly surprised with the setup and our experience. Gilligan's has a beautiful tropical vibe with the food and drinks to match. We got a pitcher of the spicy margarita which was refreshing. We also tasted the frozen watermelon margarita which was sweet and delicious. I'd recommend both but I preferred the watermelon a bit more. Drinks were a little pricey but that's probably partly for the aesthetic and the area of town. Overall rating: 4.65 Initially this place was a bit hard to find. I got it kind of confused with Soho diner. I was kind of expecting the worst experience ever based on the terrible reviews, but I liked it! If you've read any of my other reviews, you know by now I love anything with plants. And this, was a rainforest My friends were running late and the service was very friendly and patient while I waited for them. I didn't drink but the juice was very good. My friend had the salad and I had the granola which were both great. Things got a little rocky soon after when a 3rd friend came. The service dropped significantly. They took forever to get her order, bring out food & close the check. Like 20+ minutes of waiting. We've even tried to wave multiple people down a few times, but they were so busy and so crowded. I don't think that's an excuse when it's a $$$ place in Tribeca though. As much as I love the space and the environment, it's more of a one-time visit for me. As 3 people, I can't imagine how it is with a party of 4 or more. It has to be better other times? Maybe a happy hour after work? Definitely not brunch for me. I and some friends came to hang out here on a weekend evening in the fall. This place makes is decorated like a summer cabana - perfect especially in the summer months. We started off with a pitcher of matcha colada which was amazing and we shared some smashed avocado and burrata which was pretty good. Now the clientele and staff were...interesting to say the least. We had an encounter with a pretty inebriated patron who tried to take drinks off our table, which the staff kindly took care of. Then we had a server who was pretty friendly but really wanted to take shots with us despite us not asking for them. A nice summer spot. The service: Service was... weird? Unsure how to describe it, but it felt like staff were always walking around uncertain of what was going on. We ordered corn ribs and received them fine, but then was approached twice more by different people with another place of corn. Not an issue but weird to deal with. Our table was missing a random number of different items (plates, cups, forks) and it was shockingly difficult to get the right number. When drinks came out they would haphazardly set it in front of random people and not take our empty glasses. Not a deal breaker, but again, weird vibe. Front of house was also very strange, insinuating that he wasn't going to seat me until more of my party arrived, only to find out later that I wasn't seated because our table was still occupied. Why make me feel stressed about my party showing up then? Overall I think this place targets tourists who won't come again so they can cut a few corners on food and service. Ambiance was lovely and you truly felt like you were transported into a tropical jungle. I removed a star for service as our server didn't pay much attention to us at all, and when it started raining during our time there (it's not a covered patio) we were left waiting for her to bring the bill. This place is so cute! Its is a tucked away tropical oasis downtown. I came here only for the drinks but browsing the food menu, I noticed it was very short. Walking by this place you'd never know it was a secret jungle and its actually pretty big and spacious. There are plants and trees everywhere with tiki-style countertops. I wish I went here earlier so I could spend all summer outdoors here. Now that its getting colder, I hope they set up heaters to keep it warm. The drinks were pretty good. I got their best seller, the frozen watermelon maragrita, which was very flavorful. The prices are a bit expensive, which is standard for this area, but it's still not fun paying so much. Stopped in after a massage in soho in early august 2021 with my cousin. She advised me to try the lobster roll. I also had a half dozen oysters. This meal didn't disappoint! We came for the watermelon slushy and stayed for the amazing margherita pizza (not pictured). My friend and I came on a Saturday night with a reservation and were seated immediately. We were seated outdoors on one of the hottest days of the year, but the tropical decor and the fruity drinks reminded us of Miami. It was a great little piece of escapism in the city. The watermelon slushy was good but definitely looks better than it tasted. The underrated and most pleasant surprise was the margherita pizza. Both my friend and I have been to Italy and we swear it was the best pizza either of us had ever had. I don't normally like basil or tomato sauce but the sauce was subtly flavored and the cheese complemented it perfectly. I can't even describe what was so good about the pizza except for the fact that there was a surprising amount of flavor layers that made this pizza addictive.
