It was a group of us that went out for my girlfriends birthday. She had this place in mind for a while. We finally made got to it. I ordered chicken wings, grilled octopus and more chicken wings from how good the first plate was. The chicken was crispy savory and blazing hot. Very tender and I was impressed. The grilled squid came very well presented and tasted amazing. It had some kick to it. No pun intended lol. I got to sample the pop corn chicken. I believe it was diced chicken thigh pieces. Very good idea. The shrimp egg rolls were crispy and delicious. The dan Dan noodles also had some spice to it. Loved it. The dumplings in hot oil of course are always one of my favorites. The fried cheese was tasty, the chicken skewers delicious. Wasn't anything that I did not like. Now the drinks that we ordered came out beautifully. Each one with its own personality. Definitely all came out enchanted. Our service was good. But i do believe that they can use atleast one more waiter. The wait times considering that it was seven of us wasn't to bad but that can be alot for just a bartender and one waiter. They did do a great job and we tipped them for it. Very unique decor and food. We had a great time on a double date night. The bird cage seats were a little tight, they give you an extra table to store items. Gorgeous decorations and excellent service. I highly recommend the cheese with passionfruit jam. The peppercorn squid was just ok, maybe a little too heavy on the peppercorn. First of all, you probably heard of this spot because you saw how fun their cocktails are on social media like myself. I decided to check it out myself with a friend and can confirm it's definitely very instagrammable. They even indicate on the menu which drinks are photo-worthy. Not only that, they have some tables with a bird-cage, which makes a fun vibe. After taking our orders, we were given complimentary welcome drinks in an elixir bottle inside a smokin' treasure chest. Yes, definitely a nice and fun start even if it's not alcoholic. For our actual cocktails, I had Jasmine Crush with Gin ($19) and my friend had the Misty Rain ($18). They show was cool for a minute, but once the paper burned out, they took the added contraption off the drink. Then you're just left with a regular cocktail, which felt a little disappointing. The drink itself was decent, thought very strong on the gin. Personally, I'm a dark liquor girl, so wasn't crazy about all the gin and vodka on the menu. Yeah, they sound interesting on the menu, but they kind of fall flat in execution. But hey, at least they make great boomerangs! The Green Dragon comes sizzling (literally), which is fun to behold. But when the sparkler dies down, you're just left with a mildly chilled lemonade that tastes like a stronger Smirnoff Ice. No sugarsnap pea essence or any of that fun stuff listed--just lemon essence. The Slow and Steadily features an adorable marshmallow duck drowning in the glass, but it tastes like room temperature ginger ale mixed with lemon juice. There was no egg white, allspice or Sichuan peppercorn flavor to be found. In fact, spend less money and just get the Tea'ze Me mocktail, which actually has the distinct flavor of oolong tea and other elements--and is presented artfully to boot. And skip the Peppercorn Squid, which was not spicy, oddly sweet and served lukewarm for some reason. Blech. Points for the complimentary shooters at the start, though. The birdcage seating was super cute and unexpected. We were surprised with a free shot provided when we sat down. It came out in a smoking box. It didn't taste like any particular liquor but was pretty good. We only had a round of drinks. I had the Paloma which was just ok. The Hubs had an Old Fashioned, no complaints on his end. The ice cube was super clear and there was an orange peel in the shape of a star at the bottom of the glass... super cute touch. A friend had the Ghenghis Khan which seemed to be good and another friend had The Bartender's Special with tequila and it was a total miss. I'm not sure if that was the inspiration for this bar but i sure wished i could be there forever. It's an adorable bar with a backroom and you can sit in "cages". Which are semi-circular cage table thing with a bench. It's quite unique. Their drinks are out of this world and are so fun to order. If I could try all of their drinks I would've but then I would've ended up in the hospital with alcohol poisoning. My friend and I tried different drinks and I also got some food. The chicken skewers and the noodle soup was really good. I think it goes so well with the drinks. The server (i forgot her name), but she was super nice, very patient with me while my friend was running late. This is such a great cocktail bar experience. Ambiance: the entire restaurant feels themed. You sit in these cute cages that are big and comfortable with pillows everywhere. The whole decor makes you feel like you really are in another place. Drinks: the drinks here were really unique and tasted good. They have some awesome combinations that I would never even think to mix together. And of course it's great to see them light something things on fire for the drink. Food: we got some snacks and all of them were delicious. They were well seasoned and flavored and they came in really nice presentations. Service: staff was patient and answered all our questions about the drinks. They also gave us recommendations based on what our likes and dislikes were. Everything came up fairly fast. A Magical Find in My Old Neighborhood I was traveling from Boston to Philly and decided to stay for a night in New York and meet up with some Ukrainian friends in my old stomping grounds. After grabbing dinner at veselka, I wandered The East Village heading towards Houston and stumbled upon Wonderland. It was new to me because I moved out of the area maybe four or five years ago, so it definitely was a new and intriguing little bar. They have a lot of whimsical drinks that are well crafted with tea, which actually was really nice. You can get some of these tea and vodka drinks that don't completely fuck up your stomach like a lot of the other sugary sweet and sour drinks do. I had Bubble Trouble and then I had another drink I'm forgetting the name of after that. Ulrica was my bartender and was extremely friendly. It also happened that they apparently have a tarot card reader on Wednesday nights. Her name was Sunny and I was really impressed with the reading. Honestly, I am an agnostic type person. I'm very logical, but I like to believe we don't know everything. I also know they say that folks can just read your cards and kind of make it work, but I don't know, the narrative that came out of the deck that was chosen was kind of spot on. I was pretty impressed and I had a great time regardless. It was fun and I would highly recommend the bartender and the fortuneteller! Really cute bar! It wasn't super busy walking in on a rainy night even though the other bars around were packed. They give free shots at the beginning and everything is both presented and decorated in a really aesthetic manner. Service was very attentive and cocktails definitively are inventive! I have NEVER heard of the EXISTENCE of this place before, never seen it on social media, NOTHING, so EVERYTHING was a surprise. I spontaneously ordered what must be the most beautiful alcoholic beverage I have ever encountered, The Calm Qi of Life. I read some other reviewer said the drink quality wasn't up to par? Well while the drinks are expensive, one sip of my beautiful work of art surrounded by flowers reminded me I was DRINKING. Definitely got some KICK. We also ordered truffle fries, which came in a giant bird's (or DINO) nest display. My friend got the chicken sliders, and from what I can remember (because I took a big chomp) I loved them. The service is here is IMPECCABLE. And I loved the little freebie potion shots they brought over for us to sample. This is DEFINITELY the sort of place where you're kinda watching what the other tables drink orders to see what's gonna happen over there too; EVERY time a waiter showed up ANYWHERE, there was a captive audience in the vicinity to watch the smoking, bubble-popping, mystical beverage. Wow! This place does well on the decor and creates a place for very instagrammable drinks. Honestly, if you wanted to show off to your online following this would be a great place to go - every drink is unique and whimsical and plays well on a video. What a great question. Despite getting an A for Effort, an A for presentation, and an A for decor, there's just a couple real issue when it comes to taste. None of the drinks tasted better than okay to good. It's funny because we expected drinks that tasted better than Please Don't Tell based on the show going on, but they tasted more like an amateur cocktail makers attempt at fancy cocktails. We had to leave and go get less pretty, but better tasting cocktails at PDT afterwards. The food also is interesting. Most of it is okay to good, the Eel Clubs were actively bad and I love eel. Took my step dad here to celebrate his 50th birthday; it was so fun. The place was kind of empty for a Friday night which surprised me. The decor is whimsical and beautiful. We sat in a bird cage which was cute but small for the food we ordered, we ordered 6 small plates for our group of 4, the squid, shrimp and crab toast, caviar and kewpie fries, the butterfly shrimp, chicken skewers and chicken sandwich. This place just opened, but it's wonderful. The owner Joe is a great host and knows what hospitality and services is all about. Came here to celebrate a birthday and we were treated wonderfully. We tried a few things on the menu. Everything was delicious but be warned The jerky is a bit spicy but I enjoyed it. The bbq squid was good not spicy. The oyster shot had a kick. The seafood pearls were a good portion and helped mellow out the spice of the previous dishes with its creaminess. The pickled cucumbers hit the spot a bit on the sweeter side and worked wonderfully with all the other dishes we tried. The drinks were all fun and so very tasty. Where should I start? I'm not really a city person. This was the first time in years to go city for a bar. I heard a lot good things before from my friends, so I would like to give a try. I went with group of 8 people on a Saturday. They are very very busy so you better go early! When we get in there, the vibe is so chill, the receptionist was so nice and she soon found us a table. We ordered a lot of their signature food including their noodle, spicy popcorn chicken sliders and shrimps. The drinks were fantastic as well! The presentation of some drinks are just blowing my mind! And most of the cocktails we ordered were so delicious. We also got a hennessy bottle to boost up. Hmmm... I might give this place three stars. Now Wonderland is gorgeous and definitely original! They still had their super cute Christmas decor up during mid -January. I saw online their pics for Halloween - I know I have to come by for spooky season. Service was also amazing and friendly. Wonderland's food and cocktails presentation are on another level - it is very Instagram worthy. Servers even make sure you are ready to take pictures/videos of these lavish cocktails. Everything was gorgeous, but some of the cocktails did not taste good. Our party tried many of their specialty drinks - all I can say is that the Wild Perfume and Shiso Leaf were the ones we like. The drinks are mediocre, especially in the East Village, where you can throw a stone on any and every street corner and hit more than a dozen great cocktail bars. The interior decor is obviously designed for Instagram, featuring everyone's favorites: Cheap decor, fake "green walls", and faux-neon LED sign kitsch like "Welcome to Wonderland" scattered all over the place. $20 for cocktails that taste like paint stripper with a menu that highlights exactly which drinks are Instagrammable is obscene and absurd. This place deserves to be in a strip mall in some Midwestern state next to an overpriced brunch restaurant and TJ Maxx. I went here during their opening season and since we reserved in advance they gave us this gorgeous round table with fall decor and it made us feel super instagrammable! Honestly the service was so nice they even gave us welcome shots that were super interesting in flavor. All the cocktails we had were super fun and had different cups for each of them. I got the wonderland- which had an edible cute little duck on it and it was super yummy and I really enjoy a lychee drink so I gravitated towards this one. For a more instagrammable drink is the shiso leaf where they burn the sides of the drink and it lights up on fire! This was an eye catching one and it tasted good but I still preferred mine. We also got The Calm Qi of Life which came in a little tea cup. This one was a lot stronger than the other two. For food I feel like we ordered the entire menu but we ordered the beef noodle soup, cold noodles, eel club sliders, fried crab, shishito peppers, truffle fries and peppercorn squid. I feel like the place looks witchy but the food is all Chinese. Interesting take on attracting customers. I think all the food we're around $20-$30 other than the smaller dishes. I can definitely say that the beef noodle soup wasn't worth it because I've had much better elsewhere and I believe it was the most expensive dish we ordered. My faves were definitely the cold noodles, eel club sando and the truffle fries! I remember those truffle fries were so good I couldn't stop eating it even though we had leftover crab and squid! The cold noodles were also really good and flavorful with a nice spice kick to it. I feel like if I came next time I would prioritize cocktails and maybe a few finger foods instead of ordering the whole menu like we did!
