Enjoyed a great Sunday brunch here while on vacation in Seattle. Great service, really good food with a lot of options, and in a great neighborhood - where you can walk off some of that food. I had the french toast with a strawberry and mango topping (of the day) and bacon as a side. I wasn't in love with the french toast just because it seemed a bit greasy and was crisp/crunchy. But the the bacon was dynamite!! Our server was attentive, but not overbearing and everyone was really friendly. I may not decide to get the french toast again, but I look forward to returning. read more

The most amazing French toast you will have. Highly recommend going earlier than you want to meet/eat because the line/wait is usually long, and for good reason! The food is incredible. I like getting an omelet and French toast and the tater tots are great too! Also, don't sleep on the drinks, they are tasty! A lovely place with amazing food. Highly recommend!! read more

Nice breakfast spot. Great smoked bacon quality food. Love it. I could go there and know it'll be great!

I saw the gargantuan French Toast and it looked really good, but I was at Geraldine's for one thing and one thing only: biscuits and gravy. Some web research showed that this might be the best biscuits and gravy in Seattle, and I was having a serious hankering for some b&g. The food did not disappoint. I thought the gravy was a little thin (nothing like my grandma's country gravy, which was as thick as mashed potatoes), but the sausage in the gravy was really delicious. The biscuits were flaky and nice. I also ordered an egg, cause it seems healthier than just a fat plate of mostly flour and starch. Needless to say, it was far more food than I could ever hope to finish in one sitting. read more

Good brunch overall. Experience: Long wait as the line never ends Quick service they do excellent job given the amount of people they are serving . Fresh biscuits and perfectly cooked omlets. What can be better: No eggs Benedict dish is served in here !!! Asked for strawberry jam but only got cranberry. Bottomline: more options can be an improvement . Good brunch place though read more

The gem of Columbia City! The only place where you walk in starving, and leave with the worst food coma ever. Hands down, Geraldine's has the BEST French toast! Sweet, crunchy with a bit of fluff in the middle.....YAS. Perfection. The Geraldine casserole and Emerald City scramble would be the runner ups-hearty big sized portions that leave your stomach happy and satisfied! The lunch menu isn't that bad either- although I feel their breakfast menu is a bit stronger in selection/taste, they have a few items that were memorable. I really enjoyed their Mac n' Cheese- extra cheesy, super creamy with the right amount of kick to it. It comes out scorching hot at times, which makes you contemplate the internal battle- risk burning your mouth for the sake of creamy hot lava like goodness, or wait? It's totally worth the risk. Geraldnie's has a nice diner feel to it- very airy in space, bright colors, with a lot of window light. Staff are very friendly and make great suggestions when it comes to deciding what to order. When the place is busy, they are very attentive and making sure you get in and out in a timely manner. Another aspect that I love about this place is that they are very community oriented. You'll see a lot of local artwork from the area on their walls, in addition to supporting local charities in and around Seattle. I'm always intrigued by businesses that support others, and appreciate their efforts in doing so. I highly recommend getting their early due to long lines (especially on the weekends). The most I've waited in line was 30 min, but it's totally worth it. There is a nearby bar in case you want to wait there in the meantime, but make sure to show up on time, or else you run the risk of losing your spot! read more

Okay Geraldine's is my truly my favorite restaurant. Both the food and service are incredibly consistent and wonderful!! I usually get the avocado and arugula sandwich. The biscuits are heavenly, the jam is delectable, the tots are the best I've ever had! So crispy! Geraldine's is truly a gem!! read more

This is by far the Best breakfast spot I have found!!! In Seattle! Simple food that taste great, flavors I have never known in breakfast items!! Best Chicken fried steak & Eggs ever! Love the fresh coffee Cake , they serve a different kind every weekend and special pancakes everyday I had the Lemon Ricotta, Best server (Dave) waited on us he was Great and helpful!!! Been back twice now!!! Highly recommend this place!!! read more

I had the small caesar salad with local smoked salmon, it was yummy. nice smokiness to the fish and the salad had a nice amount of cheese and just the right amount of dressing. the atmosphere is vibrant but not overbearingly LOUD like some places. Friendly servers, good vibe. Easy parking in lot 1/2 block east on side street. read more

What a hipster place! The exterior of the restaurant was very nice, and the inside is nice too. Our waiter was very nice and attentive, and the place was pretty busy for 10am on a Thursday. Unfortunately, we got seated next to a door, and it was super drafty (it was a chilly day). The biggest downfall here is the price. There is only organic coffee that costs $3.5 per cup (free refills). I ordered the ricotta pancakes with strawberries (it was a special). I expected the ricotta to be on top, but it was mixed into the batter. It was AMAZING. It gave the pancakes an amazing texture, and they were the most delicious I have EVER had. The fresh strawberries were on top, and were a great touch. read more

I agree with the few reviewers that this place is quite average for breakfast. By no means is it bad but it's definitely not worth the 20-30 minute wait on weekends. The host and the wait staff are fantastic. Very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant itself is clean and laid out well. It does get noisy, though. My guess of the long wait times is because there is nothing better in the area. There isn't much very close at all. I had the hash and there's much, much better but you'd have to travel for it. It was quite flavor-less. The scrambled eggs were good but, again, there's better. I will definitely return and try the french toast. That seems to be the secret dish everyone loves. read more

Geraldine's Casserole or the Corned Beef Hash, either way you go don't forget the cream biscuit! This is the local feel good breakfast place. When I look back on my trip to Seattle for Friendsgiving, I'll remember having breakfast here each morning. read more

So good! Pancakes were dense and fluffy at the same time, with so much flavor. Cute establishment with friendly staff.

Lost count of how many times I've been here because the food and service is that great. You come to appreciate the simplicity of all the flavors combined, never too greasy or overloaded with seasoning. Just simple. You can taste the love in the food that the chef was having a good day and that the restaurant staff treat each other well by the welcoming, calm while neutral ambience any time I come here. I also love the fresh flowers they put out at each table every day and citrusy fruit slices they let you finish off with after breakfast to clear your mouth. Haven't yet explored the entire menu but the breakfast is delicious and the biscuits are amazing!! read more

Geraldine's was such a welcome restaurant to our neighborhood because until they came along, there really was no where to get breakfast. The menu has a healthier and more interesting twist to typical diner fare and offers some veggie options as well. Be sure to try some of their house-made coffee cake, its worth it! Also, if you pay in cash, for every 20$ you spend, they give you a 1$ certificate you can use next time, nice! My only complaint is that some (not all) of the wait staff provides very minimal service (what I call typical Seattle service that says "you should be glad I'm helping you at all"). But again, it's not everyone or all of the time. read more

We drive over from Seatac every other weekend to have breakfast at Geraldine's. The staff is great; attentive, always interact with our toddler and laugh at my husband's silly, early morning jokes. The food is especially good. I like that they use local farmers markets to get their produce, herbs, etc. and local butcher. Our favorite is Geraldine's Casserole; an herby, cheesey, egg bake with hashbrowns and sausage. Super yum. We also substitute a flaky, doughy biscuit instead of the toast. It keeps us coming back for more! Get there early (like we do). By 9:00am it's packed. read more

The food in this diner is so amazing that my Dad insists on we eat at least one meal here every time he visits from out of state. The breakfasts are classic and delicious, the service is quick and friendly, and the ambiance is a fun fast paced diner atmosphere. Oh and for us carnivores? The bacon is to die for! :-) read more

Food was WONDERFUL. Just the right portion and really yummy. I had the biscuits and gravy (as recommended by the very helpful gentleman behind the counter). The staff was over the moon friendly and super nice! My cup of coffee was always filled and hot and my water glass never empty:) I was seated at the counter almost immediately and received lots of attention with my wonder woman scrubs, since I am taking my State CNA test today! ;) Parking right down the street was very reasonable (only $1/hr). Very happy with the service. Food was reasonably priced (about $13/plate w/ coffee which was also delicious) and they have to go options. But like I said... Very worth it for the service and food. Overall a great experience! And not too crazy busy even on game day! Go Hawks!:) read more

Word of mouth says Geraldine's is a great place, but my two visits here don't bear this out. On my first visit I ordered the sandwich that the menu describes as "if you like Reuben sandwiches you will love this." That seemed promising, but actually ordering it proved to be a mistake. Eliminating the sauerkraut and putting what amounted to beef jerky between two slices of dried out bread made for an unpleasant experience. On the other hand, my wife's breakfast casserole was excellent. On my second visit, I ordered the Thursday evening fried chicken special. Some might like it, but I found the seasoning strange and the chicken mediocre. I know many people who love this place, but I've gone 0 for 2 there and am reluctant to try it again. read more

Love this place. Met up with some friends one weekend, and went back the next with the parents visiting. The French toast is worth it, like other reviews have already said! Got the emerald city scramble and it was amazing too. Second time around I got the breakfast sandwich and it did not disappoint. I think you just can't go wrong here! Bonus, service was excellent - which honestly feels more and more rare in this city. read more

I didn't know anything about Geraldine's, all I knew was I was hungry and needed to be fed. My boyfriend had suggested Geraldine's saying they had some legit biscuits and gravy. Only open for breakfast and lunch, get there early because it gets packed. We ordered the biscuits and gravy and their in house corn beef hash. Holy crap, it's was awesome. The corn beef hash was the best I've ever had personally. It wasn't salty like most corn beef hash I've had. Also, they will cater to your food preferences. I can't have whole eggs and were able to make egg whites with my meal which was awesome for me. Parking is limited, mostly street parking but accessible. read more

Good food really busy though big portions and prices are good. Breakfast is a big thing on weekends. Can see why people like the place.

I believe Geraldine's is a bit over-rated.We live in the neighborhood and try to support our local businesses every chance we get. We've been to Geraldine's about ten times by now. We've tried to like it,we really have. The service is pretty good and they pour a good cup of coffee. It's just the food and the atmosphere that we have the most trouble with. The food, honestly, is just okay. Some items are tasty, like the bacon, arugula breakfast sandwich and the french toast. On two occassions, our breakfast has come off the line warm instead of piping hot.Even on the occasions when the food has been satisfying though, the atmoshphere has instigated a near panic attack. Maybe it's a decorating ploy to keep you moving so that the the waiting list can move along? It's too bright.(It looks kinda like a teenager picked the color scheme). And it's loud, really, really loud. If you really want to try it,do so on a weekday. If you show up on a weekend morning, you would be wise to skip the long wait and seek out one of at least four other interesting options around or near Columbia City. *Vegans be warned, your options are virtually non-existent. read more

We came here on a rainy Monday morning and found parking in the lot next door with no problem. The place was busy but the staff seemed to keep things moving pretty fast. I ordered Grealdines Casserole , which was very good. Wifey had the Sweet Corn Scramble and she loved it. Great little place. read more

Since a couple of family members recommended this place, this place was a must-visit on the trip to Seattle. The rants and raves about the french toast left me with some skepticism, but i have a sense of adventure, and was willing to take it to bat. Nice spot in a upcoming neighborhood with enough stuff to do while you are waiting 30 mins or more for your name on the list to be called after signing up. after we were seated in this relatively kid friendly place we had a 10 min wait between our order and our waiter serving us the best biscuits and jam i had in life (sorry grandma!) the french toast and the corned beef hash were excellent too. the crunchiness of the toast was a welcome twist. After the 3 biscuits i had i was finally satisfied, ready to take on the emerald city once again. read more

Mediocre and way too overhyped. Also very overpriced for absolutely no reason at all, there are many other great breakfast/brunch places in Seattle instead! read more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this breakfast eatery! I have been twice since I moved to Columbia City and I cannot believe how delicious the food is! The coffee is a medium roast (light-medium) unfortunately, but I totally don't care. The chicken fried steak is the best I've ever had in the PNW! The breading is perfectly salted and peppered, the sausage gravy is spicy and flavorful, and their biscuits are butter perfection. The service is pretty good and it can get busy so arrive before 8:30 am or after 11:00 am for fast breakfast seating!! They serve breakfast all day so you can get your eggs n' bacon fix at 7:30pm if needed. Waiters are usually hit or miss, mostly depending on how busy the restaurant is. This is a true Columbia City staple to enjoy. read more

I give this restaurant five stars for the french toast alone. My husband and I stopped here on our way up to Vancouver on our honeymoon. The french toast was made with brioche and had a warm berry compote to accompany it. It melted in my mouth. The topping does change seasonally so it may be something different when you visit. We also had a scramble that was also delicious. After my few trips up to the Pacific Northwest, I am convinced that the drip coffee there is better than coffee anywhere else in the world. I've never been to Europe but that may be the only place on earth that could contend with Seattle coffee. If you are visiting the Seattle area or live here, please do yourself a favor and hit Geraldine's for breakfast. You will not regret it. read more

This place is very good for breakfast!!!! Is very busy, so take that in mind, the waiting list was 30min for 6 people so if is only 2 people is less wait, the place is small that's why. The food is very good!! We tried the French toad and was amazing, we got the Biscuits and gravy and that was pretty good too! The plates are big. If I find my self in Seattle again for sure I will be coming to this place!!!! read more

Stopped in on a busy Sunday morning for a delightful *spicy* virgin Bloody Mary, the avocado pepperjack omelet (perfect consistency), and crunchy hashbrowns. Service was fairly attentive (more so from the beverage staff than the waitress) and the food was quick and reasonable. The wait was LONG, so come early!! While in Columbia City, also tried COLUMBIA CITY BAKERY (see review) read more

Inspired by Seattle Metropolitan magazine's January issue, "Hot Breakfast Spots," my Mom and I popped into Geraldine's Counter, to taste out this recommendation ourselves. This Columbia City neighborhood favorite features diner style decor, and breakfast and lunch cuisine without the grease you'd expect from comfort food. Breakfasts were garnished with thick slices of homemade sourdough toast, and a warm, friendly disposition from the wait staff. I can personally vouch for the avocado and pepperjack omelet, which was delicious! Also a fun fact newcomers may not know: patrons who pay with cash receive "Geraldine dollars." This Monopoly-esque money is awarded $1 for every $ spent in tax on your meal. These dollars can be saved and cashed in for future dining endeavors at Geraldine's Counter. Frequent this new hot-spot enough, you might be able to swing a free meal! Cons: Since the article, this place has apparently become a breakfast hot spot, be prepared for at least a 15-30 minute wait. read more

I usually come here for brunch and it is always delicious. French toast is interesting but awesome. Chicken friend steak is a winner here. I do want to go here for Fried Chicken on Thursdays, will repost once I try. read more

I love Geraldine's for breakfast. I always order the special to try the best of something new. Their fluffy, flavorful eggs remind me of all the times I dined at Geraldine's with my sister who had passed away last May. -Don't order the salads, because they can be quite bland in color and taste. Besides, there are so many other options that you should try instead!! -If it's your first time, come skim over the breakfast menu and order the french toast! The shell is buttery crisp, and the inside is warm and 'tickle-me' sweet. They also come with fat, juicy blueberries that are more than happy to be devoured. They make the perfect two! -Biscuits and gravy is also fantastic. The biscuits are like pillows, big and fluffy, and the gravy is smooth and rich. -If you pay in cash, you get $1 for every $10 you spent to use for the next time. Great deal. -If you're with a friend or by yourself, consider asking for a seat at the counter, which the place is named for, after all. I always consider Geraldine's when I'm planning to impress a friend on a day out. read more

French toast, buttermilk biscuits, organic bacon and coffee. So delicious. On a Sunday morning it's far from quiet - but who cares. You're there to eat not talk! read more

I loved My food, every bite of it, but as I walked in I saw another customer complimenting the restaurant on their good service and great food. I ordered to go, so I waited at the bar. I paid My bill and received My food. The lady who helped me smiled at me and said have a good day. I sat and waited longer and the same woman smiled and kept going. I had to ask another waitress for My drink. The other lady said she forgot and she wondered why my bill was so high. She acknowledged me twice without asking was there anything else. I had already tipped her by then, but I wouldn't have. No courtesy for me. read more

Haven't been disappointed once at Geraldine's. Except that one time I tried to order dinner at breakfast. My go to lunch counter when I'm in that area, which is frequently. I like that they put their own twist on diner classics. BEST BISCUITS anywhere. Coffee could be better. Great sandwiches, justifiable portions, and daily pancake specials. The place is always packed for breakfast and lunch. Expect to wait. Or come alone and sit at Geraldine's counter and watch the cooks hustling hash beyond the pass through window. Why hasn't triple D stopped in? read more

Home base food - anytime of day and especially when you need some good comfort cookin'z

I came here specifically to try the french toast. The full order came with 3 pretty big slices and a fresh topping of strawberries. The whole outside was very crispy and the inside fluffy. I mostly like the crust of french toast so I didn't have a problem with it being very crispy all around. But if you are more of a fan of the softness of french toast, you might not think the same. I'd definitely come back for it. Everything else about this restaurant was great! The atmosphere was very lively. I came in pretty early to beat the rush! In addition to the french toast, I had the Emerald Scramble: pork, spinach, bell peppers, onions, topped with pepperjack. All ingredients were plentiful in the scramble. The orange juice was also really fresh and tasty. read more

I've only thought about, dreamt about This place for the past year. Today I actually got up extra early 6am that is ..on a Sunday. ( not a am person at all) to meet up with a few of my high school friends for breakfast. I arrived at 7:45am and there was a line already, Wow!! I got a table for 5, the waitress that sat me was very friendly and upbeat. I ordered coffee while I waited a few minutes for the girls to show up. This place filled up fast!! Once everyone showed up, the waiter came by and asked if we were ready. Being this is our first experience, we were so indecisive of what we wanted and not quite sure what was offered. He took 2 of our orders and walked off while the other 3 were ready to order without even getting a chance to look thoroughly through the menu. We were able to him back and placed our orders for French toast since it was the best in town. Our food arrived and we all very much enjoyed it. Definitely the best French toast!! I loved mine. Crispy, hot bread with a great tasting blueberry compote ..YUMM. When the bill came, while we were trying to figure out the cost the waiter came by and we weren't ready. He was very impatient with us. He was already impatient when we couldn't decide and now this? Haha. He walked off while we had questions. When he came back, we had questions and he was irritated. We had 2 cash transactions and 2 card, he informed us that there is a .50 cent charge for the second card transaction ( which is fine). By now we didn't want to upset him anymore. I understand it's very busy, there is a line out the door of patrons waiting to come in. We were trying to be as fast as we could but he was a tad bit unpleasant towards us. ( maybe it was an off day for him) Next time we will view the menu ahead, know what to order when we get there, bring cash, and ask the checks to be separate beforehand. The food is great, but definitely not a place to meet with old friends chit chat. I'm a Seattlelite and I love introducing friends and family to new places for food. I hope the next time I go back, I'll get a less impatient waiter. read more
