    Mangu breakfast for just $13.95!
    Nery A.

I has just dropped off my daughter at school and needed to be back in an hour and a half for a school trip so I decided to explore Sunset Park for an open cafe. Since I had run out of my home without having breakfast, my stomach was rumbling. A simple coffee with concha wasn't going to be enough for my appetite. My stomach and brain collaborated at that moment and I remembered my parents describing a delicious breakfast that consisted of mashed plantains with fried cheese, eggs, and fried salami topped with pickled red onion. All I could remember is that the restaurant started with a G. By some miracle of the universe, I turned around and there it was...George's restaurant with a big sign saying that they serve Dominican breakfast. And let me tell you the best part...all of that deliciousness is only $13.95. As soon as I entered the restaurant, I saw another sign that showed that they serve a milkshake called morir sonando. I knew then that I had hit the the breakfast jackpot because I hadn't had one in a long time and I have craved it since then. Like a friend once said to me, it tastes just like a creamsicle so it's basically dessert for breakfast. The waitress was very friendly and quick to bring my order. The restaurant is in a dining setting so it is family-oriented. If you are craving a Dominican breakfast, then this is the best spot for it in Sunset Park.

Cheese Burger and a breakfast wrap.

Consistently tasty. Both times we went we were very happy we did. We ate so many things in two meals, both lunch and breakfast and it was wonderful. Don't let the line discourage you. They move table and make good use of mobile dividers to keep the line moving. Enjoy a pastry and an espresso while you wait. The chocolate croissant (not pictured) was in line with everything else - DELICIOUS!

Was wondering what to have for lunch and stumbled upon this diner. What an easy choice! I'm always a fan of diners. We were seated right away. Pretty spacious restaurant especially there are more seatings in the back area. I had my usual western omelette. Glad I was able to have salad instead of fries. Order came with toast which was standard. Service was quick and staff was friendly. Nice place to just chill. Menu was expansive. Would love to come back next time I'm in the neighborhood.

Terrible food and service. Drinks were sugared and water down...

The service was not the greatest. Though, they were empty, order took 20 minutes . App asked me to keep writing but then say too much information entered. Terrible YELP APP and terrible restaurant

Had a country omelette and a Bloody Mary. Haven't been here in years and everything still remains the same (in a good way.) MOD was friendly along with my server. Generous portions and comforting vibe.

Are you gonna get an airy twink as a server who wants to go back to Bushwick and lets you know that at every second, or are you going to get a serious experience with a focused, professional server. Ya never know. This used to be part of the charm, but now it's a liability because friends (and other chefs in the neighborhood) never want to go to Diner because...ya never know what it'll be. Diner has never coasted on continuity. They change up the menu every day. They write it on the paper tablecloth, for Chrissakes. But I still love that! I still find most of the food to be delicious (if pricey), I still think their cocktails are well-made (even if their bar is weirdly slow) and I love their brunch and I love the vibe, and I'm glad it's still here. Their Caesar salad is overrated, as is the burger, but they're always mixing it up. You could get lucky. Ya never know...

Cozy interior, but the concept seemed like...trying too hard to be different and hip...? Why do you make your waiters write down the menu on the table for each group of guests? Doesnt even save paper since those menus are not reused. And honestly, our waiter's handwriting was sometimes hard to read. Also, quite pricey. The crab pasta was $35, the celery root was also $35 (like what?!), the squash was $23, and the Caesar salad (not pictured) was $22. Service was friendly and knowledgeable on the food but slow.

But if you're looking for some excellent, straight forward, wonderfully crafted simplicity, this is in your wheelhouse. A quesadilla is a quesadilla, a hamburger a hamburger. Sounds boring? Not when your hamburger and quesadilla are amongst the best you've ever had at any diner, anywhere. Our waitress was very nice and allowed us to dine, unbothered. We ordered a fresh fruit platter for dessert. It included watermelon, mango, grapes, apples, strawberries, etc. very nice, well presented. The dining area certainly belies what happens in that kitchen behind the door. I'll be back to try some more simple, but excellent food.

This spot has a handful of tables and while we were there, quite a few to-go orders were picked up as well. Though we were the only diners, so I assume it's more of a breakfast/brunch spot. The menu is rather expansive with options from breakfast to lunch and dinner. After studying the menu, we opted for the Veggie Burger and the Meatball Parm Po'Boy. Our food was ready in about 20 minutes, which seemed a little long as we were the only diners, but we were not in a rush so it was fine. As the restaurant was unassuming, I honestly had pretty low expectations, but we both really enjoyed our meals. It was definitely large portions and really flavorful. My fiance said the Meatball Parm Po'Boy was delicious and I appreciated that the veggie burger seemed to be made in house as it was falling apart (in a good way) and you could distinguish some of the veggies. I ended up only eating about half of my burger and took the rest for lunch the next day and it held up well.

While they have all the traditional breakfast fare, I was so happy to see it also had a Caribbean twist to it. I couldn't help myself--I had to order rice and beans with pernil (pork shoulder) and a side of sweet plantains. Of course, I wanted some actual breakfast items, so we got the French toast loaded with fruit. We also got both the tres and quatro golpes, which is a traditional Dominican breakfast. Lastly, we got a Caribbean omelet. My rice and pernil was solid. The rice could've used a tad bit more seasoning but when mixed with the side of beans and plantains plus a drizzle of hot sauce it was perfect. They had a variety of sauces--Tabasco (my fave), a Jamaican one that was super spicy, and a mild homemade one. The tres/quatro golpes was also a hearty choice with mangu (mashed plantain), sausage, fried cheese, and eggs. The pickled red onion balanced everything out. The fried cheese is similar to a halloumi but I think it's a bit more flavorful. All the flavors just melt together in your mouth perfectly. The French toast and omelet were good. I'd say the Caribbean items stole the show though. The place has a typical diner vibe and is on the small side. Food was served quickly and service was good. Discount if you pay in cash. I will be coming back to try their Cuban!!

Apparently there is more than one location in Manhattan. The inside reminded me of a classic diner. Comfy and with a pretty cool vibe. We all slid into a booth and looked over the seasonal offerings along with their standard menu. I was lured by the chicken Kyiv based on the picture of having two rolled up chicken cutlets stuffed with dill and other yumminess, but was a bit disappointment when it arrived with a single small cutlet on my plate with two heaping mounds of potatoes mash and broccoli. I instantly had regret when I should have gotten the borscht soup with pierogies, but wanted to try something I wouldn't usually. I should've stuck to what was safe. My work mom got the stuffed cabbage and that was a clear homerun- really loved the mushroom gravy that it came with. My other colleague got the potato pancake and wasn't too thrilled with it, while my boss got the two Swedish meatballs that he described to be Ikea worthy. Although this was my first time here, I can't say that anyone really loved the food nor would come out of their way to come back. I really was hoping this would have wow-ed me in some way, but I guess I'll stick to what's familiar.

Cuisine: 7 Service: 9…read moreDecor: 8 Value: 7 Overall: 8 I have always been a fan of the original Veselka in Manhattan since my days in college, so finally visiting the new Williamsburg location is well overdue. A friend and I each got a soup to start our meal, along with sharing a Potato Pancake. The Matzoh Ball Soup and Potato Pancake were good, but not great. However, I enjoyed the Pork & Cabbage Soup enough to take home a quart. For entree, we shared a Deluxe Meat Plate that was quite delicious. All three pierogi flavors were great, but the short rib was my favorite, followed closely by the mushroom & sauerkraut. I also really enjoyed the grilled kielbasa, but sadly it was served at room temperature. Lastly, the stuffed cabbage is not usually my thing, yet I liked this version. Once again, it was served barely warm. Thankfully, we finished on a high note. My friend really wanted the Challah Bread Pudding, which was moist and tasty. However, the lovely waitress advised us strongly to try the Medovyk. This Ukrainian layered honey cake had a wonderful texture, not too creamy or sweet, with a great walnut flavor. We were extremely happy with her suggestion. We also really liked the diner vibes that felt warm and inviting. This was so close to a five star review. The main reason for the deduction was the temperature of our food being served. Hopefully that problem will be solved on my next visit.
