I come here for breakfast although lunch and dinner are served as well. Very friendly cheerful staff, but when this place is full, they can forget some silverware or ketchup. This is the best hole in the wall breakfast joint in town! The atmosphere is great, very homey. The fact that they have a contraption where they plop oranges in to get freshly squeezed juice taste heavenly refreshing! Our waitresses were very attentive and we never had an empty glass and they were also very kind, positive and friendly energy. That cozy, Southern feel! George's is a Lubbock breakfast institution. I've visited George's many, many times, and have never been disappointed. It's everything you want in a cozy, family-run restaurant....it's clean, friendly, and the food's fast, hot, and delicious! My son's now a Tech student: he can pack away the chow! I on the other hand don't eat much, so I really appreciate he can order a big breakfast, and I can get the "1 1 1", one egg, one piece of meat, and one pancake. Perfect. Wonderful spot to bring your family for a Saturday brunch. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. Our food was hot and delicious. The cafe has a "hole in the wall" sort of feel, which is refreshing considering all the popped up restaurants in town. The bathrooms are very clean and the water runs very hot, which is a good indicator of hygiene in the kitchen. The cook was cleaning his area as he worked. The baby chairs were clean. I used to go to George's Cafe and I have decided to stop going because they served me food in a dessert plate the last 3 times I went there. When I complaint to the OWNER he said that they were out of normal sized plates. I thought that was very unbelievable. The owner didn't seem to care at all. read more

Thought Myself and son would enjoy lunch before I had to go to work but not as planned! We seated ourselves and was given a drink and order taken. 40 minutes go by and other people seated after us were receiving food. I question the waitress and she went to the kitchen to check our order. I explined I had to go to work within the next 15 minutes, she did apologize and i paid for the meal. 10 minutes later she brought the food and stated our ticket was lost and we were waiting for my burger to cook. This is at 12:55 pm the restaurant isn't packed and I have waitressed before and I understand how it can be but at the same time if you know your other customers food is coming out before the others then something is wrong. No urgency while standing and talking to other employees. Arrive to work with cold fries and soggy bread i did eat the 2 patties and lettuce. We stopped in Lubbock on the way home from our New Mexico vacation. We were looking for good food in a non-chain restaurant. Based on the good reviews we picked George's Cafe. It delivered. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. Our drinks were never empty. I had the Chicken Fried Chicken. It was the perfect portion size. Everything tastes homemade. My hubby had George's Famous Club sandwich. He says it was good. My daughter had the Meat Omelet and ate the whole thing! It was an adult portion and she's 8! They are not use to being so busy so the downside was that we had to wait a long time for our food but once we did get it; it was DELICIOUS! We are passing thru from california and stopped at George's cafe after 8pm. There was an assortment of customers but when I see senior citizens (we are almost there) and police officers eating there u figure it must be good. We wanted some home style food and we got it. I had the chicken fried steak with onion rings and my wife had pork chop with fried okra. The manager came over to the table and talked with us for 20 min about the area, her recent home purchase all very interesting to me. The whole crew was friendly and he food was delicious. read more

Just finished breakfast...as I was finishing my coffee (which I had 2 cups) I noticed something in the bottom of the cup....I looked & I am not sure what it was, I only know that when I showed it to one of the waitresses she said YUCK! and then for being such a good sport & drinking out of a dirty nasty cup they gave me 30% off my meal...which I couldn't finish I kept thinking about what was in the bottom & sides of that cup! We've been here several times when visiting our daughter at Tech. The food is pretty solid. The reason for the one star is the terrible service this visit (which in the past has been adequate). Came in, took a table and began the torturous wait. Started with one server who took our drink order. Then came a group of 10. They were seated after us, and got their food before we even got the appetizer we ordered. I actually had to ask for the appetizer. Came out twenty minutes later. Entrees, three sandwiches were delivered one at a time over the course of 15 minutes. I approached the server who "started us" and let he know we were ready to order. Apparently the server we were supposed to have didn't even know we were her table. Still took her a while to get to us because they were "backed up" by a half full restaurant. (Instead of half empty...trying to be optimistic). Good thing this was not our first visit because what an awful impression this would make. May give them another chance but maybe not read more

The Georges cafe on 4th street is absolutely horrible. I will never go back or recommend them to anyone. I ate by myself and paid 16$ but yet I didn't get my salad, my food was cold, the chicken fried steak was all chewy, my mashed potatoes were hard and thick with no gravy at all, and the queso tasted like cheese out of the machine at the gas station. Nothing had any flavor and my okra was mushy even after ordering it well done. They don't even deserve one star but unfortunately it's making me lol read more

I have here quite a few times. I went 4-25-19 things were different than my past experiences. Everyone is so friendly and fast. This last time was totally different. In the past at about 9:45 in the morning if they had a open menu I was yes all except for soup and mashed potatoes those won't be ready until 11. Which was fine my family all ordered lunch. I went in about 9am on 4-25-19 my dad wanted breakfast well I wanted chicken. He ordered his then it was my turn... I was told basically limited open menu before I told her I wanted grilled chicken with fries and a salad. She said they can't do that until 11. I told well they did before and it was before 10. She goes let me go ask the kitchen if they will. She comes back says they told will this one time but that's it. Wtf that was rude...then she goes on you said grilled chicken well you can't have soup you have to have a salad cause it isn't ready yet. OMG even more rude are you deaf I said salad before you even tried to say I wasn't allowed dinner. I re gave my order and no cooked veggie mix I didn't want it... I was brought the grilled veggies I didn't want, a really small piece of chicken, half the fries as normal and I had to ask for my salad which was half the size of normal and had to ask twice for extra ranch. I guess only open menu for certain staff. Well she didn't get a tip because she was rude. I usually tip every where I go. But when you are rude like that you get nothing read more
