We visited for Valentine's Day and our experience really made a special evening! We selected the five course tasting menu with wine pairings and we were delighted! From the first course of crab tortellini in beef consume, broccoli in a wonderful cream sauce with crisp pork jowl, salad with trout roe and hazelnuts, delicious beef tenderloin main course and profiteroles with smoked chocolate, everything was perfect and well paired with wines. We tried George and Violet's Steakhouse in Springfield last night. When we walked in, we were not sure what to expect. Very clean and quaint. Our server was excellent, and explained the menu to us. Everything is ala carte, which means you can customize your meal. She also informed us that they age their own meat, and that they "rest" the steaks so that we knew it would take a few extra minutes. Not a problem. The steaks melted in your mouth. I had a ribeye, and my husband had a tenderloin. Each came with your choice of 2 butters. Between us we tried all four. I brought home what I could not eat, and just made a steak sandwich with onions...and the steak still was as good as last night. We would definitely return to this steakhouse. read more

So very happy & impressed by this gem in Springfield. My partner & I had the pleasure of dining last night. For a brand-new restaurant, this team has it dialed! Service was super friendly, attentive and had all the answers we required. To preface, we have eaten at some very high-end steakhouses - so our par was set high. Drinks were proper, delicious and arrived quickly after we ordered them. The food... oh the food. To start, we were served the most perfectly sized house-made rolls with butter to snack on. We ordered the shrimp cocktail and bacon starters. The 3 shrimps were huge, 10-20 count, just what we were looking for. Served with traditional cocktail sauce and a herbed butter on the side. Amazing. The bacon was a much larger portion than I had expected. Thick sliced, almost like pork belly style. Served with toast and a fresh salad with a bacon vinegarette. Stack the salad and bacon on the toast, delectable! We each got a different cut of steak, both perfectly cooked medium-rare and served with 2 choices of butter on the side - the boyfriend opted for a side of fries that were a hit! Hot & crunchy, just as they should be. We paired our meats with a glass of Pinot Noir that was very nice. To end, I opted to get the chocolate mousse and a dessert wine recommended by our server. I never really go for ports or dessert wines, but paired with this chocolate mousse, oh man - what a way to end such a divine dinner. I've never rated a restaurant so highly but this is well deserved and I'm a harsh critic. The steak and salad I ordered was very good all around. Steak cooked perfectly and very tender. My only caveats: presentation is lacking. Since all of the sides are ordered and served separately, it leaves a steak on a big white plate with only two little butter dishes. Perhaps a few sprigs of asparagus, green beans something to make it look as good as it tastes? Or even better, serve the sides on the plate. Need to get better bread than dinner rolls. A good baguette or similar from Hideaway would be awesome. So those details aside -- still 5 stars with a little room for improvement. Service is very good and no waiting (had a reservation) the room is comfortable and warm. When it comes time for a special dinner, go here. read more

We went on a Friday night for an anniversary celebration. The two stars I docked are for the ambiance. It does not have a high end feel at all. The floor, tables and chairs all looked like bbq joint cast offs. The place was packed, so it was sports bar level of noise. Between the noise and the decor it is not at all what you want for an intimate meal that you linger over. And good grief were the chairs uncomfortable; by the end of the dinner my back was killing me so we didn't stick around for dessert. The food itself was delicious. I had the New York strip and a side salad; my SO had the rib eye and fries. We ordered them both medium well since the server told us they tend to cook slightly under done, and for us they came with exactly the level of pink we wanted and both were seasoned perfectly. The salad was dressed perfectly. My SO felt there was nothing special about the fries so probably wont order them again if we ever return. I'm not sure if we will ever return though. I'm confused about what their intended clientele is supposed to be. It isn't good for a romantic meal; the price point is too high for a lot of casual gatherings; the noise level isn't what you want for a business meal. But they do know how to cook a great steak. read more

I recommend the Miso butter and the blue cheese butter. The Dungeness crab butter was not my liking. Surprisingly the best thing they had was the desserts. We had a birthday dinner here last night - and it was great, from reservation to dessert. The staff was superb and made the entire experience easy and enjoyable. At first glance the menu seems small - but given all the alternatives and combinations, it's a great array of delicious-sounding options. Wonderful warm rolls to begin; tasty shrimp appetizer, delicious caesar salad and baked potato, and a perfectly cooked tenderloin steak. And topped off with donut holes for dessert. Every thing is ala-carte which is ok, I guess, but you are going to pay close to $50 per meal.The menu is very limited. We ordered s NY strip and I like mine medium well, waitress says I should order it well done and said it would take one half hour to cook!!!And it took longer than that and it came out medium.After three bites I sent it back because it was not tender like a strip should be.So I ordered a cheese burger and after another long wait the bottom part of the bun was burnt!!!!We also ordered coffee and the waitress said they usually charge $3 PER cup for the coffee, but she said not to worry about a extra cup!!That was nice of her, but $3 for each cup of coffee!(really?). Overpriced for subpar quality dining. And totally agree with GH. review!!!They need to fall back and regroup.We won't be back.. read more

Oh my god is all I can say! Literally the best meal I have ever had! From the appetizers to the unique cocktails everything was spot on delicious! I had the rib eye that came with 2 choices of side butters ...I chose the crab butter and hazelnut miso butter both were out of this world! We shared the butternut ravioli with brown butter as a side dish which was incredibly decadent. A little on the spendy side with ordering everything ala cart but for a special occasion and considering what quality the food was it was totally worth it! Tried to come here for my birthday with my parents and best friend who came to visit out of out town and with my boyfriend, when we arrived no one was around at the host stand. Finally someone came to greet us, when I said there would be 5 dining tonight, the gentleman said sorry we only have room for 4 tonight. We all thought he was joking as we stood there looking around at the many tables that could accommodate the 5 of us. He kept staring at us and when I realized he would not be seating us, I said well I guess we have to leave and he said good night. I have heard great things about this restaurant and really wanted to eat there for my birthday, but after that experience I will never give them my business. First time here tonight. I am giving the food a solid 5 even though expensive. Had to knock off a star for the atmosphere and the smell. I couldn't identify the smell except I think it's a leftover odor from being an old and dingy tavern. I have a sensitive nose and was really bothered by this Now to the food! You Must share the baked potato because you couldn't possibly eat anything else if you had a whole one. We also split a garden salad. Both had ribeye steaks which were on the Happy Hour $3 off menu. DELICIOUS is all I can say. Be warned that they cook their steaks underdone so I had medium instead of medium rare. It was perfect. I tried Hazelnut and Blue Cheese butters, but only a hint of each. The food was off the charts! The Ribeye steak was cooked exactly as I asked and the flavor was delicious. The Mac and cheese pie, something I never heard before, was wonderful. They prepared zucchini in a very different way but it was a pleasure of smell and taste, very yummy. Never been a huge steak fan, but George & Violet's is turning me into one! I especially love the cheeseburger, which is priced at a steal considering it's a double patty steak burger. The appetizers are always interesting and delicious (definitely get the sweet potatoes!) and the bread basket is delicious and always tastes like it's just come from the oven. The staff are lovely and do a great job setting you up for a special meal out or just a quick stop for burgers. And the bar-- delicious cocktails that go great with an inventive and delectable dessert menu. read more

To charge $40 for a 11oz "40" day dry aged steak that was worth $15 at best is ridiculous. Steak house? I think not. These good reviews came from individuals that obviously have never ate a real steak. I watched another steak get sent back as well because the cooks have no clue what they are doing. An excellent meal, great service, and the cocktails Oh my! I have eaten here twice in the past few weeks and boy oh boy. The tables were set perfectly, service was attentive, loved the Lagioule steak knives! The atmosphere is a nice blend of informal but not so much that it doesn't feel special. Chicken confit with maitake mushrooms, beef carpaccio, double pork chop all good, and they even made the wedge salad taste special. I wish the menu had a few more options, since it is an al a carte kind of place. Broccoli and mushrooms were the only cooked vegetable options and the chicken confit came with mushrooms. There were two salad choices, which are too big for one person as an accompaniment to a full meal. Before you go check the current menu to be sure you can put together a meal you will like. Now the bar, we ended our meal with Evan's Hurricane, unlike any other Hurricane, one big pure ice cube, clear slightly tinted drink, no fruity mushy slushy here. Evan laboriously purifies the mix and it comes out like elixir for the gods. He has all kinds of little bottles and potions of things he concocts. You will be in excellent hands with Evan behind the bar. I definitely recommend this place. read more

From all I have heard about this place I rally wanted to love it, but I didn't. We had reservations, had to go at 5pm to get them. We were seated at a table in the middle of a brightly lit room, next to the kitchen, so ambiance was not what I expected, I was hoping for a more intimate feeling. Our server was excellent and we were greeted right away with water. We had cocktails which were well made so no complaints with bar or service. We ordered Prawns and a NY Steak, planning to share, along with a salad and sides. The Caesar Wedge salad was tasty, the bread they brought was okay but really needed more butter or something. My hubby said his steak was delicious, it should be for the price, but the part I had was just okay. The prawns were large but tough and the sauce didn't seem to pair correctly, overall my dish was just barely okay. We shared a baked potato, which also for the price I expected to be more than just a medium to smaller size potato. So would I go back, that's a big NO. A $150 meal for 2 people should be more than meh! read more

I went on opening night with just adults, and then again last week - LOVED IT. Eugene finally has an amazing steakhouse! Great place for either a $12 hamburger at the awesome bar (I learned the owner refinished it himself), or a fancy meal (my husband and I went for our 10 year anniversary, even took the 2 and 4 year old along). It was busy, fun, and totally delicious. Food was obviously prepared with a lot of experience and the place looks ready to be there for the long haul. It's a classic steakhouse menu, with starters, meat, and your sides ordered separately. I agree with everyone that the kitchen really knows how to cook a steak. The hazelnut miso butter is to die for! Our server, Laura, was experienced and checked in on us just the right amount. Even only three weeks in, they were great about working hard to organize their service and accommodate guests. It got pretty busy and the staff were working quickly and efficiently. We ordered kind of all over the place at our first visit, and missed an order of fries. However, the owner noted it before I did, came over and let us know our fries would be right out, and got them to us literally within two minutes. I checked them out on instagram and they make all their rolls and age all their beef in-house! If you want a place where no food is delivered on an 18 wheeler and the staff are all really dedicated to fine-tuning a wonderful dining experience, go for it. We'll be back!! read more

We visited after a Duck football game and were met with a very friendly welcome. The atmosphere was a causal elegance . Our waitress was very attentive and helpful with the menu. We finally tried this newish steakhouse to see what it was all about. The location is discreet, and the interior is that of an aging building with eclectic decor. It has charm and what appear to be original hard wood floors accented with modern industrial lighting. It was busy, so a bit on the loud side as it is relatively small with low ceilings. Now for the food, I ordered the classic wedge salad that included a delicious blue cheese dressing and was just as advertised and a nice portion. I followed the salad with a loaded baked potato and the 12 oz. ribeye ordered medium rare as well as a glass of Chianti. The potato was prepared well and topped with just the right amount of sour cream, cheese, bacon and chives. The steak was prepared perfectly and seasoned simply yet flavorful. The Chianti was a perfect addition to the tender and juicy steak. For desert I had to try the dark chocolate mousse and it did not disappoint with a light whipped cream and a chocolate wafer for some texture. The food was all cooked just right and the service was good, and overall the meal was very good. In my opinion this restaurant does have a slight struggle with its identity. The side items are quite limited and did not include items such as creamed corn, spinach, mashed potatoes or asparagus, etc. that are found at most steakhouses. The prices are definitely on the high end for this area and for the ambiance and service level. Not to say that either the ambiance or service are lacking for a typical restaurant. When visiting a steak house where items come a la carte I have grown to expect a certain level of service by the wait staff such as the offering of fresh cracked pepper, entrees being presented at the same time, and just a more attentive experience. Again, it's not that anything was bad or wrong but when paying $84 for dinner for one person there are certain expectations that other high end steak houses have set and they just weren't on that level. read more

From out of town visiting in-laws and the whole family took me here for my birthday. First week they have been open and I have to say they did a great job with the food. My 9 yr old daughter told the waiter, "I give this place five stars, best steak I've had in a long time". She talked about it the whole ride home. Since Bates closed, there hasn't been a great steakhouse in the Eugene area until George and Violet's opened. Everything we had here was great. Only downside was that the grass-fed ribeye was sold out when we ate here. Just as pricey as other top steak venues, but you won't be disappointed with your meal. read more

Wow! Their steak is absolutely amazing! I had the tenderloin and my husband had the 40-day aged ribeye and both were seasoned and cooked to perfection!! The hazelnut broccoli had a ton of flavor and still a nice crunch to it. And the grapefruit upside cake with poppyseed ice cream...to die for. I like to try things. Retired chef. Retired restaurant guy. I love to introduce my lady to new places things etc. So when a steakhouse/bar open a mere 3 blocks away i get a little excited. Finally bite the bullet on a very slow saturday night and go. Never going back. Ive been treated poorly before. I suppose youd never know i was a chef or a service industry clown as it could be said. Image based. The bartender was oh idk i guess its yelp. Just dont go. Dont go to drink unless you look a certain way. Pretentious. Just a little. My review is based on a few drinks and a very rude service staff. Not the type of place you can go to to relax have a few spend some money and feel like youre put and about and enjoying the town. Pushy ill trained and not what i look for in a restaurant/bar night time affair. If you want to eat drink or relax take you dollars across the bridge and give it to anyone else. George and violets should stick to the over priced meat and puritan designs. Dont even bother. Its a flash in the pan. It will be gone before they even know what happened. read more

This was our Anniversary outing. I had heard that this was a 'special occasion' place. It was fabulous! Both the food and beverage menus were not extensive, but had outstanding solid choices.
