The times I've been here I've liked the food I ordered online to take with me. I build my own and get the sauce in the side since I'm traveling with it. Unfortunately it is NEVER ready when the online system says it will be. And this last time I confirmed that they don't even look at your order until you show up in person, try to find someone who works there, and then you wait 20 minutes longer before anything happens. A local I was waiting with said it's always like that, which is pretty frustrating. And it's not like it's busy. So that's definitely not the reason. I think it's just a poorly run restaurant, which is sad, because the food can be really nice if you catch them on a day when there is a halfway competent kitchen staff. This is the only Genghis grill location I've ever encountered and I sure hope it's not their flagship store. read more

Not quite sure how this place is still open. Walked in and it was uncomfortably hot in there, seats all torn covered in tape, specials menus all over the floor along with trash, soda machine broken. Poor customer service with servers acting like they didn't want to be there. Not sure how this place was that dirty and it wasn't even busy on a Saturday. Observed one of the workers aimlessly walking around, I assume he was on the grill helping the other worker cook, taking his time, no sense of urgency from either- and their customer service absolutely was lacking. My partner and I decided to try Genghis Grill in Rockwall for a 12 o'clock lunch. Spoiler alert: it was quite the adventure. Food: - Chicken Lo Mein (medium size) - Build-Your-Own Bowl (regular size) Walking in, I thought we'd be greeted by the culinary equivalent of a mall food court. Surprise! We were met by a hostess and led to a half-booth. Fancy, right? You place your drink and food order with a waitress, then head over to the build-your-own food station. It's like playing restaurant, but you're paying adult prices. The place was nearly empty--maybe three other customers, tops. Super casual, but also super overpriced. Seriously, you can get the same type and quality of food at the mall for half the price. It seems like they're charging extra for the "restaurant" feel, complete with a hostess desk and waitstaff, which I could easily do without. We were seated directly in front of the do-it-yourself area. They hand you tiny silver bowls to fill up at the station. Beware: there was raw chicken lounging on the counter. Pro tip: do not place your bowl directly on the counter unless you want an unplanned stomach workout. After the meat section, you move on to the seasonings, veggies, and sauces. Once your bowl is overflowing, you bring it to the counter where the chef grills your masterpiece. The Chicken Lo Mein was tasty but had a sneaky spicy kick. If you're spice-averse, make sure to tell them. The menu forgot to mention this little detail. The manager apologized and said there should be a pepper icon on the menu. She apologized again and had it remade with no spice. For the Build-Your-Own Bowl, I went with steak, chicken, baby corn, water chestnuts, broccoli, white rice, and onions with General Tso sauce. It was good and made with fresh ingredients. All in all, Genghis Grill serves decent food, but the price tag doesn't justify choosing it over the mall's budget-friendly options. So sounded like the way to start, after my son mentioned it to me. We enjoyed the predefined bowls from the menu. They make it easier to get started versus building a bowl from scratch. Really good flavor. Feels and tastes like good quality fresh ingredients. The ability to have quinoa makes for a health plus. It is a bit more expensive than I expected. I mean, could get more from a Chinese restaurant for the same price. However, I do not believe it would be of the same food quality and healthier. I love eating a variety of protein at the same meal, and for that reason - I used to love Genghis Grill. But it now takes SOO LONG to get food here - that I have lost interest. Several of the meats (protein) were empty; they are now usually out of shrimp, crab, and a couple of others. There aren't enough waiters during busy hours, so it also takes a long time to get bowls and drinks. PSA!!!! If you want to get sick and eat rotten food you've come to the right place. Was watching the lady doing temp checks and most of the meat and veggies were way out of temp range. Was even talking about it to another employee but continued serving it. Made me stop and tell them never mind. Manager was very rude about it as if I done something wrong by saying I don't want to eat here. Also noticed dust hanging down from ceiling fans. Place is just unsanitary and heath dept will be notified about it. Can't believe this place is still operating. The food is delicious and the service was amazing! We started with the potstickers and the hummus. They did not disappoint. I love being able to pick out everything that goes into my bowl, the protein, the veggies, the sauce, and if I want rice, noodles, and or cabbage. Spoiler alert I got all 3 in my large bowl. I got the shrimp, chicken, steak, carne asada, tons of zucchini and squash, and tons of teriyaki sauce. I seasoned with garlic and steak seasoning. I added two eggs to my bowl. You choose what size bowl, (meal), you want. You go through a line and pick all of the ingredients and put them in your bowl. Staff was great, very helpful! Food is delicious. A lot of variety to choose from with the build your own - though tried the Bangkok and the Teriyaki (Bangkok is really spicy). Small portion is pretty small if youre the average hungry person. I recommend at least getting medium (this is probably comparable to the size of Panda Express - except it is made fresh on the grill when you order, there is a bit of a wait.) Our server had only been there three weeks was very good, but that was the only bright part about this visit We have been patrons of this store since it opened and watched the service and the food and the value go down in the last several months Items are no longer such as potatoes. The other day we went and they didn't have salmon. They had tilapia in the salmon container, but didn't tell anyone. And the tilapia was frozen solid. After passing the meat, you couldn't go back and make any adjustments even if you're going to ask somebody about it. Upon entering wasn't sure by the way it was set up if, it was fast food or dine-in , immediately got a feeling of OLD RESTAURANT Smell! We were greeted by a young man, who must have had WAY to much coffee, because by how fast he explained the Social Distancing rules and how to get your food almost robotic! We even had the pleasure of watching the manager and the woman cooking the food having a loud and intense argument!
