Third, the technician was rushing the entire time and seemed focused on finishing quickly. The polish was applied about a millimeter above the cuticle, and I had to point it out so she could fix it. It's my birthday weekend and I'm out here with nails that were supposed to be the "cat eye" magnet design... but the only thing feline about them was how sad they looked. I've been a long time supporter of this establishment and have introduced many friends to be patrons here. As of my most recent visit, I will no longer be returning. During a basic manicure appointment, my manicurist was rushing and stabbed my cuticles multiple times with her nail tool. This resulted in injuries to my cuticles (see blue circles) where they hurt upon touching and alcohol spraying that was part of the service. I asked for a specific color and when the nail bottle brought over was not at all what I required, the manicurist tried to convince me the color was right. I had to put my foot down to ask for a switch. This entire experience was frustrating and with the price increase, I will be looking elsewhere for future nail needs. read more

i have avoided this place for about a year now and recently decided to give it another chance and went back Saturday (07/20) to get a manicure for a wedding i was attending Sunday (07/21). I made an appointment for 11AM , per their availability, all i did was ask for a morning appointment. I got there right at 11AM, and they were BUSY - every seat was full.! I was not seated till about 11:20AM. Another woman experienced a similar waiting situation, she was more vocal about her frustration. I got a french manicure and didn't realize how horrible it was till Sunday and then Monday somehow worst. They've not only begun to chip and peal , the white tip is now BROWN. Someone greets you when you walk in and everyone is attentive and efficient when it comes to serving their next clients. They are very detailed about their work here. I'm always asked if I liked my nails/want to change anything before moving on to the next steps. This definitely helps me in case I change my mind about something at any time during the process. They work efficiently without compromising their work, and I've left happy with my nails every single time. They can get pretty busy though and their waiting area is small. It can get a little cramped in that area but they have some outdoor seating to minimize crowding. TIP: They do accept walk-ins, but I highly recommend calling ahead in case they are booked for the day. I've been coming to Gel Nails Spa for years. I can be hard on my nails and always opt for gel, and they really do amazing work from start to finish. Easy five stars on quality alone. They do get busy so personally I schedule on weekdays, and don't expect to get in and out if the place is full. That said, it's always been a wonderful experience. Great attention to detail, they take their time with you, and the end product always leaves me feeling brand new. If you want nail art or something extra special let them know ahead of time because only some of the nail techs can do everything. Full disclosure, I'm an early transition trans girl, and when I first came to Gel Nails Spa I was years from figuring that out, presenting very masculine and very awkward. I had only ever had awkward mani/pedi experiences at that point in my life, usually feeling a little too "seen" and not in the best way. I usually come in a little nervous, a little insecure and hyper aware around how I'm presenting, as over the years I have gotten more and more androgynous, and now increasingly fem. My fist (and last) visit to this salon. Not worth the time or cost. Possibly the worst manicure I've had in 25 years of having my nails professionally done. Went in for a last minute appointment for pedicure, and ended up adding a basic manicure to the service. Big mistake. Manicure was a half hearted attempt at cleaning up my nails, which I realized part way through the appointment. I was a little frustrated, but it was evening, my pedicure was ok, and I wanted out of there so I didn't say anything. When I left the salon, I noticed my cuticles had only been half treated. And I don't mean half of my hand. Only half of the cuticle on each fingernail had been pushed back/partially trimmed. And several pieces of skin were loose and sticking up from my fingers - it wasn't like that when I entered the salon. I've never seen such a poor job. See the photo, this was AFTER the manicure. The pedicure was okay. My toenails did look good. There was about 2-3" of water in the foot spa (maybe they trying to conserve water?) and the foot/leg scrub and massage was a poor attempt. My heels are generally soft, but somehow came out of that place rough. Do yourself a favor and find another salon. I do not recommend this salon at all. I am extremely disappointed as I asked the lady multiple times to remove the polish from my cuticles after she painted them. Moving forward, I would recommend you to bring your own shade of white/other popular colors since their polish is thicker due to it being opened a lot to be used on other clients. Gel Nails Spa did my nails for my wedding as well as for my bridesmaids and mother in law. I have also gotten a few other manicures there whenever I am visiting family (I live in Brooklyn). They have always done an exceptional job and the people who work there are lovely. This is one of the only places in the Bay Area that does a good dip manicure and they are also very good at designs. My only knock on this place is that their selection of colors for dip is somewhat limited but it's probably also that I am spoiled from living in the NYC area. they are fantastic! I just moved here a few months ago and went on the recommendation of my mother in law. I was skeptical at first, as I am an acrylic nail girl. But they assured me they could do a pink and white fill that would last. And it DOES! I am very hard on my nails and they last 3 weeks and only need touching up at that point.
