After moving to Walnut Creek, I've been going through quite a few nail salons to try and find the perfect balance of service, price, and quality. I stopped in to David's nails after many Nextdoor recommendations touting them as affordable and incredibly long lasting. Of note: CASH ONLY! The manicurist and pedicurist both were so sweet. They were efficient without making me feel rushed, and when I asked for a little design on my nails (kind of a reverse French tip), they said "sure!" without any hesitation. My nails look clean and nice, and I'm very happy with my manicure. When I was there, a woman had just gotten a pedi and her husband accidentally stepped on it and messed up a few toes, and they fixed it without a second thought. They did also give good massages, though I wish they were longer (I ALWAYS wish massages were longer, though ) I'll update with how long they last- I'm a swimmer in the pool pretty regularly, so if they make it at least 2 weeks, I'll be thrilled. read more

So this is sad to post... but only fair. I generally love this place and have had a favorite nail artist until she went on maternity leave. Yesterday I make a reservation for a pedicure at 6pm and they do NOT close until 7pm. I made the reservation on the phone and made sure to communicate it would be at 6pm. I arrived and no one would give me a pedicure because they wanted to go home. One of the other guests was indignant with me and I asked clearly three times "So you will not be giving me my pedicure even though I made the reservation?" And no one would respond until I said- I just need a yes or no... they just didn't care to do the job or keep the hours that they are committed to. It was very rude and disrespectful. read more

Really was hoping to give more than 3 stars, but cannot. Should really be 3.5 though. First time visit, got a dip manicure and the technician cut multiple fingers of cuticles. The manicure lasted a really long time; however. So I went back for another try. This time got a pedicure and dip nails again. Fastest pedicure ever and nail chip 12 hours later. Manicure was nice, but 3 nails scratched within a day. :(. Pedi was $20 and mani was $50. Plus tip. For that much money, I'd hope to have long lasting nails. (A longer massage would be nice as well). Cash only is sometimes challenging but doable. Overall, decent experience but won't go back. I have been in search of a good nail place locally for awhile and have had David's Nails bookmarked for a while. My cousin and I finally were able to find an afternoon to do a bit of "pampering" after a very long stressful month. They were able to take us in within an hour call; so far so good. We got there, were told to pick colors. Before we could decide on colors (didn't think we were taking too long but apparently we were), we were told that we needed to sit down on the chairs now. My cousin sat down and the lady started working on her feet. I sat at the chair next to her and there was already water in the bucket so I figured it was from previous client but after a few minutes, another lady told me that the water was for me. Honestly, I didn't even see the water being drawn so I was kind of taken aback and was just hoping it was clean. Water was already cold by the time I dipped my feet in and another lady worked on my feet. Seriously, we have been to a lot of mani pedi places but this was the fastest pedi we both ever had experienced. My cousin was done literarily in 10 minutes. My manicure was also very quick. We spent more time trying to let our feet and hands dry than being pampered. Fast forward the following day, less than twenty four hours, my French mani is already peeling (see picture). My pedi is holding up but my cousin's pedi has started peeling too. Between the two of us, before tip, the total was $73 so it's not cheap especially since we normally pay that much elsewhere for shellac manicure and two pedi (this was just a regular mani). I was also told when paying that I needed to tip 3 times for each service. Uh, this was not my first mani pedi, we know that we have to tip for individual service. Yelp also might want to update the payment options because they only take Cash and check. Thankfully I had a checkbook with me. Perhaps our expectation was too high because of all the positive reviews we've read here, but we were so disappointed by the whole experience and we are so bummed that we now have to find another place to fix the "new" mani/pedi we just got I am giving this place a two stars instead of one because unless it's absolutely horrendous, I try not to give any moms and pops shops bad reviews and/or one star rating because I know some reviews really can screw up small businesses. We personally wouldn't be back. There are better quality service at the price point in my humble opinion. read more

Let me start by admitting that I am not an expert when it comes to pedicures. I've probably only had 3 in my life (including this one), so I am speaking from limited experience. Disclaimer not wothstanding, I enjoyed this pedicure enough to think it deserved 4 stars - if for no other reason that they took me immediately without an appointment, were very nice, and didn't cause me serious pain. The good: No waiting without an appointment. The lady who did the pedicure was nice. She didn't torture my poor toenails and achieved an aesthetically pleasing result. The bad: It was a little warm in the salon even with the front and back doors open. Having said doors open, however, allowed in some of those little flies that like to hover in circles in the middle cool rooms. I'm not talking about those loud, annoying house flies that land on everything including in your ears. These were the polite flies that keep their distance and just seem to want a cool place to hang out. So it wasn't the worst thing in the world, but it certainly didn't make the place seem like the ritz, if you know what I'm saying. The mediocre: it wasn't the most upscale place in the world, but it was clean. There was a big screen TV showing an older movie with Jennifer Anniston and that guy from Justified. That helped me not have to just stare awkwardly at the poor lady working on my feet. Those big chair/foot bath things are kind of weird, although the massage function wasn't wholly unpleasant. Sitting there with someone washing your feet kind of makes you feel like when you get down from it you should knight them or grant them some royal favor. Anyway, I suspect that these were not the newest or best model available based on the fact that she lined the foot bath portion with plastic wrap before she filled it to stop the water from draining out. After she had worked on my feet for a while I saw her reach down and grab something. Suddenly, like the shower scene from Psycho, she plunges this screwdriver down towards my feet! I only have time to startle and make an immasculine whimpering noise before I realize that she was just puncturing the plastic wrap to drain the foot bath. She kind of chuckled and said most people flinch when she does that. I'm not saying that she derived some sadistic pleasure from that, but if I were her I probably would do the same. So fair play. Lol Overall: For someone who doesn't go for a lot of pedicures, this wasn't a bad one and the price was what I am told is the average for places in the area. I'd go back, but this time - adequately prepared, I'm not going to act like a scared second grader when she drains the foot bath! read more

I dont get acrylics often however I wanted to try this place bc it was recommended. Best set i've gotten! no damage or minor mistakes to the nails. exactly what i asked for. Judy took her time to make sure they were what I liked. I didn't feel rushed at all. She did an amazing job! highly recommend out of many other nail salons in walnut creek. She does acrylics very well, i felt i got my money's worth. this set ended up being 70$ which i was okay with because of the experience and fantastic job she did. I'm new to Walnut Creek and was hesitant to come here without seeing pictures, but it's so close to home I had to give it a shot. I was very pleasantly surprised! I got a pedicure and an acrylic/gel fill and the ladies did a great job! I forgot I had gel on my toes that they needed to remove and expected a negative reaction, but there was no fuss. I'm pretty picky and have been studying my nails for imperfections, but I have no complaints! They also get bonus points for having P.S. I Love You playing (and a great stock of other movies!) -- it's always nice to have some entertainment when you don't have hands to use your phone. Well, guys, here we are, still trying to do the "heavy lifting" just for you! This is the second place here in Walnut Creek that my partner and I have ventured out to, trying to find the BEST place that does male manicures and/or pedicures, and alas, we are now batting 0 for 2. David's is not THAT close to where we live, but the cab ride there isn't too expensive. It's a small, nondescript place as many nail salons tend to be, that are in smaller strip malls. It was clean, for the most part, with massage/foot spa chairs that were in pretty good shape. (And we've seen some chairs that were truly BUSTED.) I had scheduled the appointment a couple of days before, and it didn't take them long to seat us and get us settled in. I didn't mind that Bear got tended to first, but there wasn't a lot of staff there that day. Everyone was busy, which I guess is a good sign. But I sat with my feet in cold water for nearly twenty-five minutes, before anyone finally came to check on me, and that was only when my tech, who said her name was "Rose", finally came over to get me started. As treatments go, it was "okay", from the trim to the light foot massage that came at the end. But I'm beginning to realize how 'spoiled' we actually were with our old place, Cherry's, which we went to quite frequently in VA, when we lived there. It didn't help that when Bear went to pay, and wanted to know if he could put the tips for the ladies on the bill and asked if it would be split between them, there was something of a language barrier problem. It got sorted out in the end, but it took some patience. Overall, I would say that David's probably provides a much better experience for the gals than the guys. So...we'll keep looking. read more

I wanted to like this place because everyone else loves it and it's so close to where I live, I wanted it it to be "my place!" Meh. I got a pedicure and manicure on two separate occasions. FYI, they don't use individual basins for foot baths, it's the chair that comes with the jets. It's also the chair with the built in shiatsu massager that is operated by a remote. It was relaxing in the first 3 minutes but I didn't know how to work the remote so it became torturous but then I ended up turning it off. The actual pedicure was ok. Leg/foot massage lasted for a while but it was kind of rough. They also convinced me to get a flower design! But how can you say no when they hand you the samples of designs to look at. I was there for a manicure last week. Fastest manicure of my life! That is not a good thing. I came on a Saturday and all the nail technicians were busy giving pedicures. I didn't mind waiting since I didn't have an appointment. I think the manicure lasted as long as my wait time, 20 minutes. It felt rushed. I've been here twice and the look of their work was pretty good. What kinda sucked was the amount of time I spent there. The first time I went in for a mani and pedi I was there for an hour and 45 minutes! They were not that busy either! The second time I went in I planned for the long visit but I was out in 45 minutes and the same service was now $10 cheaper. My complaint is the non consistency...you never know what your going to get. But it's cheap and the outcome is good so I'll be back...I think. read more

I have been going here for about a year now since I moved to the east bay. I love that they play Rom-Coms and sometimes you get to chose the movie! My Gel Manicure lasts a solid 3 weeks before one of them starts to peel, and thats not bad because working in the medical field, I am constantly washing my hands and using abrasive antibacterial soaps. I am rating this a 4/5 because they just recently went to "cash only" and thats a bummer because its an extra step to stop by the ATM before coming here. LIKE THIS PLACE. This is very close to my house. I was going to Pinkie's, but it is a bit expensive, and I decided I wanted to go somewhere that used liners for the pedicure soaking tubs for hygienic reasons. David's does use the liners. Judy is the manager (owner?) and is very friendly and calls you by name, which I appreciate. I have been there 3-4 times, and I would say the pedicure is pretty good to good, the staff is friendly, they have a movie playing on a big scene which you can watch while waiting, and I found I actually liked that feature. I recommend this place. My only suggestion would be to make sure they show the customers that they use pedicure equipment (clippers, files, emery board, etc) that are one time use for each customer. read more

I must disclose that my hooves had not been touched by a pro in 4 years. In need of some major construction around the toe nails I research to find a guy friendly nail salon. David's Nails comes up and is nearly 5 stars - jackpot!. It is Saturday and I come in without an appointment. The nice lady upfront tells me 20 minutes. To my surprise I am led to a chair in 10 minutes. Relaxed in a cozy lounger with massage activation my feet are put in warm circulating water. This allows for relaxation and also to soften the massive hooves I call toes. Like a skilled farrier my attendant taps the foot she wants to work on and begins the process cleaning, cutting and moisturizing each hoof. She works rapidly but is careful not to spook the beast. Towards the end she performs a very thorough massage of the foot and lower leg. Finally I am finished off with warm towels wrapped around my calf and final cleaning of the remaining moisturizer. And like a good farrier she even helps me with my shoeing. All this attention and at the cost of only $23.00. This price would be high in Southern California but my wife says it is good for up here. BTW - I was the only man in the shop that morning. Will I be back - Hell yes!!! read more

Before I give praise to David's Nails, I need to praise myself for writing this review. There has been so many friends of mine who rave about Davids Nails yet I'm shocked that I'm the first to Yelp it! Well then, let's start this off with BANG! Props to Davids Nails! David is the owner and such a success story he is! He had worked for "Da Man" all his life in America, and now he has his own business. It's a cute little "tropical themed" nail shop. It's not like those upscale shops with 20 chairs lined up. This shop has three. David and his assistant do the pedicures and manicures. They do a fantastic job. I got my pedi & mani 3 weeks ago and it's just starting to come off! His prices are great because he doesn't have all that overhead. Also, I've NEVER in my life had a foot massage like the one David gave me. OMG! If anything, just go for the foot massage! Oh, and I loved the hot towel that he wrapped around my calves after the massage! It was refreshing to see that there were several male customers there too! This place is clean, service is friendly not pretentious, cost is affordable, quality of service is great, plenty of free parking AND a perk is the deli across the street! Get a sandwich before or after! So, when you go there, tell David that you found him on YELP...say "INTERNET". David didn't know what YELP was and didn't understand how it could help his business.
