Today was the first day. The noodles are great, as is the soup broth! It's clear from the menu - they do one thing and they do it well (beef on hand-pulled noodles). GB Hand-pulled Noodles takes the place of the former Beijing Dumplings. On the corner of Bay and Edward (less than 100 feet north of Dundas), it's a great and accessible, but cramped location with seating for maybe 20-25 people or so. The kitchen is well-presented - the cooks wear professional white chef apparel and one of them showcases noodle preparation behind a glass barrier right by the door - you'll know right away with all the loud thuds and bangs as the cook strikes noodles against the cutting board while twisting and stretching the noodles. The kitchen appliances are shiny (I am told they were cleaned very well from the previous tenant). The seating area looks much nicer now too. I ordered takeout, so the soup broth ("hot oil soup" - poor translation my own) came in a separate container from the noodles. Don't be scared by the intense red colour of the soup broth as we were - it's actually nowhere near as spicy as it looks, rather there's just a lot of spice and oil which colours the soup red and will leave only a light spicy taste in your mouth. The noodles (I chose the largest size - basically ) are slightly elasticy and made-to-order. The mega size is HUGE, good for feeding two people at $12.99 (edit: now $13.99). If you eat in the restaurant, it's a gigantic ceramic bowl, or split into two containers (soup and noodles) if taking it to-go. If you take a look at my picture - there's a pen for size comparison. The zha jiang mian is also quite good. The size of the bowl seems to be equivalent to the large size and there is lots of the 'meatsauce' (poor translation also my own). It's served with a bowl of soup topped with onions and cilantro. There are also side dishes, but I did not try any of these. Service is fantastic, the host (owner I assume) was very helpful in explaining the menu, offering a seat while waiting for takeout and opened the door when my hands were full. They are quite busy during the lunchtime rush so it appears they're doing quite well. I've been here about 6+ times since they've opened now. They take credit and debit here. EDIT: The MEGA size is now $13.99 and they have now added zha jiang mian ("pork sauce noodles") to the menu. read more

Lacking restaurant but home to some delicious noodles! It was hard to rate this restaurant because there were some things I loved and some things I hated about this place. Pros: - Hand pulled noodles! They had the perfect chewy texture that you can only get from hand pulled noodles. - Chef making the noodles. I absolutely love that you walk in and can watch the chef pulling the noodles right in front of you! Cons: - Cramped seating. Three of us were seated at a small table for two, one of which was seated in the aisle and had to get up to let customers past. - Service. The restaurant was busy but the staff was very pushy about getting us in and out as soon as possible. While I understand their need for turnover, there are tactful ways of doing this and they were blunt and pushy. They also seemed very cold. When I left I told the staff member that was ringing me out that their noodles were absolutely delicious and he just grunted at me and showed me the door. - Cilantro! This can be good or bad to some people but I didn't like that they threw a handful of cilantro in the noodles without mentioning it on the menu. Overall, the noodles and soup were really good! I would consider coming again if I just wanted a quick bite to eat. However, I'm very disappointed that they can't surround good food with competent staff. read more

Good taste, price, and size of the serving portions at the restaurant. My girlfriend and I just ordered one big bowl, shared, and still took an entire meal for breakfast for the following day. We were at Eaton's and searching for a quick dinner place. Pretty glad we found this restaurant as it was fast and delicious. Came here around 6pm on a Tuesday, and were seated within 5 minutes. Keep in mind that the place is pretty small, so it's probably best for parties of 4 or less. I was surprised by the lack of items on the menu, but it actually made it simpler to order. You choose the noodle type, thickness, toppings, and spice level. I'm glad I went with the broth version, but I'm sure the dish would taste great without soup as well. Gobbled up my noodles promptly, and it ended up being around $25 for the both of us. read more

Special Lanzhou Noodles with Beef // GB Hand Pulled Noodles. -- This place is really small, so there was a decent line around noon. It's best not to come here with more than 3 people. At the front of the store, you can see the noodles being made as orders come in (I.e. you can see someone physically making the noodles). Pictured here are my friends extra wide noodles. I got the thick noodles (circular with a big diameter). I would recommend the extra wide noodles tbh, because the extra thick ones had a doughy taste when I chewed it since the soup wasn't able to penetrate into the noodle. The extra wide noodles have more surface area exposed to the broth, so each bite would be more flavourful! Also, they have extra chili oil on the side if you want to make it spicier! I actually found it to be at a good level of spice. Overall a decent portion, and they didn't cheap out on the beef. read more

Wanted to try this place for a while went today in the afternoon and it was insanely packed got a seat and the stool and we can see through the window the gentleman making noodles in front of our eyes. I got the thick noodle beef spicy large which was massive. The broth was super tasty and the chilli oil was spicy but not to spicy. The noodles were soft and not gummy the beef was perfectly cooked and not chewy. The soup came nice and hot. Overall a wonderful experience and also it wasn't to filling as well which was perfect read more

Come here for a quick, satisfying bowl of noods. We were in and out in 35-40 minutes! We both ordered the Lanzhou Beef Noodles. Delish! - You can customize the bowl size, the noodle type and spice level. - Size S is perfect for a good portion. Size L is massive if you're hungry. - We both got the thin noodles and thought they were good but a touch too chewy (not sure if we should attribute to the fact we came so late). TLDR; Broth was delicious. Beef was flavorful and tender. Noods too chewy. Very quick service. read more

I have to give credit where credit is due - GB Noodles is the restaurant that made me a noodle-soup fan. I lived in China from 2015-2017, and while I was there, I didn't find a noodle soup I enjoyed. GB Noodles changed all of that. I used to love coming here. It was consistently delicious. I'm not sure what's changed, but it definitely isn't the soup I remember. It's still good, don't get me wrong, but after coming back for the first time in about a year, I'm just not sure what's changed. The broth is decent, the noodles are still fantastic, but the overall effect left me a bit wanting. read more

Decore: 9 Cleanliness: 10 Customer service: 10 Food: 10 Price: 10 I was visiting Toronto on a business trip and found this little gem on my walk. Ordered cucumber (cold) appetizer and a medium bowl of their seafood soup with noodles. That bowl was big enough to drown in. Noodles were perfectly done and the broth was nothing less than delicious. Perfectly balanced with spices and complimented the blistery Toronto. This is a definitely a restaurant I would go to when visiting Toronto in the future. read more

This was my first time ever getting hand-pulled noodles. The broth was lovely - reminded me of pho. I ordered the super thin noodles, & it seemed almost over cooked as they were too soft. I suppose this might just be because they're super fresh, so there's no way to make them more al dente. I found because it's hand pulled, the size consistency of the noodles were off. There were thicker noodles mixed in, so it threw me off. This is most likely all PREFERENCE based.. but the beef was GREAT & the flavours of the broth and addition of green onions and cilantro. read more

The table next to me found a hair in there soup and there was also one in my wife's soup . Only one person had a hair net two others had hats and the fourth person had nothing . Place is very busy because hand pulled noodles are the new thing right now . My soup had beef . Beef was tuff and had a nerve making it tuff and gummy. Broth was unflavored plane . Pho broth has more flavor. The guy on the window beating on noodles makes it very attractive but dont be fooled its plane tasting and costly . Not sure what others see in this place . No I will not be returning. Toronto public health should visit this place and make sure everyone wears a HAIR NET..... read more

Had the Lanzhou beef noodles...delicious! Service was quick and food is very reasonably priced.

Just ate here for dinner while touring Toronto as a solo-traveler. That was to my advantage because I did not have to wait and got a table right at the window bar. Okay so imagine the best parts about ramen + pho + fresh hand-pulled noodles ... and add a szechuan twist... that's the Lanzhou beef noodle soup, but BETTER. Service: was so fast and efficient omg!! Never was served that quick!! As soon as the menu was given to me they asked if what drink I wanted, and when they came with the water they took my order... waited no more than 5-7 minutes for the food to come. Amazing! I overheard the server also create efficiency by asking those who were waiting to be seated for their orders so that by the time their table was cleaned and ready their dish was being made in the kitchen. Really efficient. The beef - oh my gosh so good and tender The broth - oh my gosh it was perfection. So flavorful. Reminded me of pho broth where it's so flavorful and would be good even if you ate it alone. The spice: perfect. It was spicy but not TOO spicy that I'd have to chug down water (and if you like it more spicy, they have additional spices at the table for you to add). Noodles: I got the narrow thick (If you need clarification for the noodle size dont be afraid to ask, cuz that's what I had to do haha). I wasn't expecting the noodles to be so separated (?) if that makes sense (some mentioned this is described as al dente), but they were still delicious and was a great pairing to the broth. I liked how you can watch the noodles being made- but be warned about the loud sounds when the dough is being slapped !! I found it interesting that when paying the server gave me the credit card swipe machine (?) because I never had to do that before (is that a Canadian thing or just part of them working as fast as possible haha). But I kind of liked that because it made the payment and tipping process very fast. Really liked my experience here, would recommend to everyone! read more

4.5 Great tasting hand pulled noodles with a nice bite to it. I got the dry noodle dish with seasoned jelly fish. My bf had the biggest size noodle soup bowl and tea egg. Service was very good and attentive. Always had water refilled and I really appreciate that cause I tend to drink like a camel when I eat out. Tea egg - didn't taste any tea just tasted like a hard boiled egg. Jelly fish - really liked the flavour of this reminds me of when I used to love it at family dinners at Chinese restaurants but a bit more vinegary. Would've been perfect if the garlic was cut back a bit it was a little over powering and left a garlicky smell afterwards. Don't get it if your partner wants to kiss you. Dry noodles - I got the 2nd or 3rd largest noodle , could've gone with a smaller noodle. Flavour of the meat and veggies although I would've enjoyed more cucumber to carrot ratio better. Felt like there was too much carrot. It was also a good portion for the price paid. I ate probably 2/3 of my dish and couldn't finish the rest. Btw don't wear white cause you might stain it like I did mines, luckily the material I wore made the stain wash out easily. Mega noodle soup - bf got it spicy which was just chili oil added. He really enjoyed his noodles and ate all of it. I would definitely come back! read more

Whenever I pass by this restaurant there is always a line going outside the door, so I was looking pretty forward to eating here. We got there at 11:40, just before the lunch rush. I ordered the Lanzhao beef noodle with narrow-thick noodles. To be honest, I was not impressed. The broth was very, very plain in my opinion. Even the chili oil did not help too much. The noodles were a good texture, but I've had better hand pulled noodles. However, I must admit that the beef quality was really good. Their meat is much better than other noodle places. read more

I've been meaning to try this place ever since it opened but never had the chance to do so until one day my friend suggested going there. I finally got to try their noodles with homemade pork sauce (but without the cucumbers) and they were happily to accommodate me with more of the baby bok choy which I didn't even ask for. The dish overall was amazing, I'm a big fan of dry noodles and this dish made it very well. I thought initially there wasn't enough of the pork sauce but as I was almost done eating the noodles, there were excess pork sauce. To add, service was on point as well. 10/10 would come back to have these noodles again or try their other dishes! read more

Finally a fresh hand pulled noodle shop opens up in Toronto. After watching countless videos on YouTube of people posting their overseas adventure, this place really replicates just that. Love the glass window display that allows you to watch your bowl of masterpiece be pulled. Went with both the soup and dry noodles. Thin noodles with the soup and thick for the dry. After eating both, I think I definitely made a mistake getting the thinnest noodles with the soup. Soup is rich in beef flavour. Meat is tender. The sauce that went with the dry noodles was nice. Will be coming back for more! Definitely feels authentic. read more

One of my favourite noodle houses in Toronto! If you're looking for a quick place to satisfy your noodlely cravings then GB hand-pulled noodles is the place to visit. I always order either the Special Lanzhou noodles or the Noodles with Homemade Pork Sauce. You really can't go wrong with either. The ingredients are always super fresh and flavourful. There's a decent noodle to toppings ratio and you probably won't have to deal with any bites that are only noodles. Service is prompt you will be expected to have your order ready while you are waiting in line and your food will arrive shortly after you sit down. Most smaller groups will have to share tables so don't expect to have an intimate date here... The price is also decent expect to pay around $15 per person after tax and tip. Overall would definitely recommend for my fellow noodle lovers! read more

Went to this place Friday night. Very popular! They had a line and their receptionist or server/door greeter was very quick to welcome us and let us know how long of a wait it would be for a party of 3. It was only 10- 15 mins. Minimal. When we were next to be seated... they took our order. So that our wait time for our food, once seated was cut down considerably. We were only sitting at our table for less than 5 mins before our appetizers were brought to us. Great! We got a couple bites in before our first soup was delivered. We waited until all soups were tabled before eating. The colours in the dishes were spectacular and very appealing! My soup was good. When you order your soup dishes you get to choose your noodle size and type, mine was a med. Thick noodle. I actually would have preferred another type of noodle. But something to enjoy next time. The appetizers were mostly all delicious. And seasoned well. I did not enjoy the cabbage salad as much as I thought I would. To me, it tasted like pickled egg dressing. And their cold chicken unfortunately missed the mark for me as well....they keep the bone in and are able to slice through it, to see the marrow, this provides a cool look. Yet, the quantity could have been optimized without the bone. I would have liked to have the chicken as a protein option to add in the soup, so its warmed and they did not have that. It would be nice to include some seafood options too. They only have beef, vegetable and pork. The egg served with the vegetable soup, is an acquired taste. Personally I like the egg flavour they have in ramen over their version here. Their portion sizes are HUGE! So get ready to have left overs, or if you have a bottomless stomach, at least be sure to wear stretchy pants to accommodate the addition. All in all I would definitely venture here again. read more

Having had authentic Lanzhou hand-pulled noodles in Lanzhou, I'd have to say that this isn't close to the real deal but it's still quite good! Lots of noodle options to choose from!!! FOOD // I have ordered the Special Lanzhou Beef Noodles (comes in soup) and the Noodles with Homemade Pork Sauce (with soup on the side). I had the Special Lanzhou Beef Noodles with the flat noodles and I enjoyed the consistency and the wideness of the noodles. The noodles were cooked well and it came with lots of toppings. The soup had a strong peppercorn (in chinese: ma la) taste and wasn't as broth-y as I would have liked it. The noodles, beef, and cilantro were key players for me that made the dish pretty good! The Noodles with Homemade Pork Sauce came with soup on the side and dry noodles (I got thin noodles), with a nice oily pork sauce you mix in. The sauce was quite flavourful and yummy, but had lots of oil in it. I liked the flat noodles with the soup base and the thin noodles for the dry noodles! PRICE // The price is really good for a filling bowl of noodles - priced a bit higher than pho, but it's very reasonably priced. Overall, I probably won't be craving this any time soon, but it's a great take-out place! Note: I've only had this as take-out, so I can't comment much on the service or the atmosphere. read more

Really good spot for a quick lunch or dinner. You can see them hand-pulling the noodles the moment you enter the restaurant. Ambience is a bit loud but not hard to hear your company. Service is fast and friendly but you may have to try and get your server's attention. We got the special beef lanzhou noodles and spicy cucumbers as an appetizer. You have to choose the thickness of your noodle (ranges from thin and cylindrical to wide and flat), toppings (green onions, cilantro) and spiciness. I chose to get it spicy with all toppings. Broth was good - tasted somewhat like pho without the basil, ginger, etc. Noodles were great - consistent shape and texture throughout. Would recommend trying the spicy cucumbers. They had a nice peppercorn flavor and tasted even better with a bit of black vinegar added. I'd try the spicy shredded potatoes next time I visit. Prices here are great. The small soup was a generous portion for only 9.99. Definitely try this place out, as they're one of few places with hand-pulled noodles in the downtown core. read more

These were seriously THE BEST NOODLES I've ever had in Toronto. I love wheat. It's ridiculous how much I love wheat. I can honestly just eat pancakes without syrup or any kind of toppings all day. When I was younger and my mom made buns, I kind of just hovered over the flour and smelled it... If you've been following my Yelp review, then you will know that I love noodles and noodles are my favorite things to eat. GB Hand-pulled Noodles is seriously really good hand-pulled noodles. The restaurant is very small and tight, it really reminded my old memory of restaurants in Taiwan. I got the flat noodles for the pork item... I can't find their menu online, but GB Hand-pulled noodles only has about 3 items for the entrees: the beef soup noodles, the veggie soup noodles, and then the dry pork noodles. I wasn't a fan of the soup that came along with it, I thought it was way too salty and my MSG tentacles were alerted so didn't drink too much of that soup. My BF got the EXTRA LARGE beef noodle in mild spicy. He said that my dish tasted better than this. I tasted his broth, and the broth was definitely not flavorful enough. I think if he'd gotten the spicy version, it would have tasted way more flavorful. TDLR; Go big or go home. Get the extra large portion in spicy!! read more

This place will not remain a hidden gem for long. Their sauces and noodles are incredible. The weekend-only braised beef and tendon has the perfect chewiness and QQ-ness. The flavors are a perfect mix of fresh and light with spicy and earthy. I don't know how they do it, but they do! The hand-pulled noodles are to die for. They are magically thin and springy. I ate mine like I hadn't eaten in weeks. My favorite meal yet in Toronto. read more

Pro: decent hand pulled noodles, chewy, good texture Cons: The little tables are all placed so close together so you have to constantly get up, pull your chair in, just to let the other customers get into the seats by the wall. It was at least 5 times. And the waiters carry the hot noodle soup over your head to those customers which made us quite weary. Got really thirsty after our meal - it can mean only one thing: MSG is present in the soup. The $8.99 chicken - very mediocre and not worth it for its value. We'll both likely try something else next time. read more

Fresh Hand-Pull Noodles! My friends and I recently went tried out this Chinese noodle place by the Atrium, Bay and Dundas. The place is really small with limited seatings, we didn't go during the busy lunch hour but we still had to wait a bit for a table to open up I heard lots of good reviews on this place, and being a noodle lover myself I was super excited to try it out. The best thing about this place is that they hand-pull the noodle freshly in front of you after you customize and choose the thinness and thickness of noodle. We got the 2 types of dry noodles, and they both came with a small bowl of light soup broth. The minced homemade pork was seasoned and flavoured amazingly, the pork sauce mixed really well with the veggies and the ribbon medium-wide noodle, had an awesome chew + thickness! Great generous topping and portion, super filling bowl The tomato egg one was suppose to be dry noodle too, but it turned out to be really liquidity, maybe it was from all the juice that came out of tomato... There was literally no wait and the food came out extremely quickly! I like about this place is that you can choose to thickness of your noodles, I went with the popular choice, medium wide, but they have a number of options which I'll definitely try in the future. Great spot for in-house hand pulled noodles at walking distance from Bay & Dundas. I've also been a big fan of Chinese hand pulled noodles and this place caught my attention for its convenient downtown location. Noodles are made on site freshly to order by skillful chefs. While waiting in line, we had a chance to watch how noodles are pulled from scratch to the preferred thickness which was absolutely fascinating! Their menu is pretty straight forward and self-explanatory. I opted for dry noodles with minced pork and my boyfriend got a large Lanzhou noodle soup, both with narrow thick noodle. Both came relatively quick considering how busy they were. My order came with a generous amount of toppings and a bowl of soup on side. The toppings are well-seasoned and delicious; however, I like my noodles a bit more cooked. The portion is very big as I was not able to finish it. The noodle soup is also very good! The broth had a kick of spiciness to it and my boyfriend definitely enjoyed it. Regarding pricing, this restaurant is certainly a bit more expensive than Lanzhou noodle just around the corner of Dundas-University. However, the portion is more generous which is worth it! Would come back again to try their vegetarian broth! read more

Being extremely hungry prior to arrival, you could only imagine what I decided to order - the MEGA bowl of noodles! I opted for the thin noodles and patiently awaited for my bowl, not knowing what was to come. Then comes in my server... carrying this MASSIVE bowl of noodles and I could only blink twice before realizing that it was mine. I ended up finishing only half of it and had to pack the rest home. The noodle soup and potatoes were delicious and filling. Small and busy location when I went with 3 of my colleagues. We were seated at a table within 20 minutes.
