Cross posting since I think my fellow yelpers would appreciate this more:) Have been here many times for years but i noticed that the waitresses are all different from before and the service is so bad now. I noticed a strand of thin hair inside my water cup -- it was clearly hair. When I brought it to the attention of one of the waitresses, the old lady abruptly raised her voice and insisted, "It's lemon." She was so loud and everyone in the store was looking at me. I was genuinely surprised by her reaction and asked, "Do lemons grow long hair? Can u take another look and give me a new cup of water?" She responded firmly, "If I say it's lemon, then it's lemon!!!!" Fortunately, a younger staff member came over, took a quick look, apologized right away, and removed the cup. However, I could still hear the older woman in the background repeatedly insisting it was just lemon. Tbh, let's put it aside the fact that there is hair in my water, the service after they see the hair and still manage to go ahead with loud lies makes me very disappointed. Good food gets customers in ur store, good service will have them comeback again and again. But I doubt I will come back again until they train their staff:) The situation was handled unprofessionally at first, though I appreciated the younger staff member's prompt response. Also the spice oil is really spicy now, I used to be able to have medium spicy for sure now I cough even for mild. It's like chokingly spicy.

Book choy and edamame

The place was packed when we went at 7 pm, the service is great, there is one guy taking care of what looks like the whole restaurant, and he was on point! There was a food runner working with him, and they were absolutely fantastic with the orders and the food can quite fast. The apps were quite small, but to be honest this has to be the best deal for soup in town. I don't know another place that serves food from a bowl that I could fit into as a child if I wanted to sit inside of it. The noodles I wish were a little chewier, but the broth was well flavoured. Overall our experience was better than expected. Thank you to everyone working there the night we had dinner in this establishment! You made our experience wonderful.

Braised spare ribs noodles in sauce

This place is a great downtown gem for authentic hand pulled noodles. Tiny restaurant across the atrium. Came here for dinner and the staff gave a table right away. I ordered Braised spare ribs noodles in sauce with flat noodles. The noodles were good al dente and chewy bouncy which is really liked. The broth is very flavourful and the spare ribs were soft and tender. I really liked this place specially in the cold winter nights.

We've returned after 6 years and this place is equally delicious! No change in quality or quantity. The noodles are freshly made and the broth is delicious. The prices are reasonable and the staff are very kind. Don't know when we'll return to Toronto, but when we do, we'll be sure to return.

Toronto must have the best noodle shops in the world if this one only has 4 stars. Everything was fantastic and super fast! It's a small spot and it fills up fast, but they move folks in and out pretty quickly. Really enjoyed this, and I'm hoping I can get back to try some of the other stuff on the menu.

The mega special with thick

This place has amazing noodles. The lemon water definitely had lemon not hair so I don't know if it looked the same. The beef tendon was soft and flavourful. The broth was so good the only thing was it was spicy I wish they would have warned me but I also have a low spice tolerance. The whole meal was warm and comforting. The service was fast enough and our server was nothing special. The decor was nothing special yet everything was clean enough and the whole point is the food so that was a definite thumbs up.

The noodles we order it so balance ,everything is great, the service is good and friendly, we came back from Alberta just for this. Comfort food it is.

Spicy Braised Beef - 90% fat

I ordered the Spicy braised beef, the soup base tasted good, I've had better, the noodles were cooked perfectly, nice and fresh, but my main issue was with the braised beef, it honestly tasted like the beef was previously frozen or at least some bits tasted like it, i understand that there is a bit of fat that is served with this, i always take it out, but man, there was mostly fat and very little beef, the serving was large overall, but again very little beef. if you love beef fat, and i know there are many, this soup for you, if i ever order from this place again, i will stick to the sliced beef soups. But honestly, the place down the street, mogouyan, is so much better.

Braised Beef Brisket with Medium Wide Noodles ($13.99)

Yum! I loveee hand pulled noodles and this really hit the spot. The broths were great, especially the braised beef brisket! It even made my list of all time favourite noodle broths! Super flavourful and tasty. You get to choose the noodles type and they even show you pictures of how the noodles will look like for reference. The Lanzhou beef noodles we got in narrow thick, and the braised beef brisket noodle we got in medium wide. Personally I think the narrow thick was a little too dense for my liking but I liked the medium wide noodles. We also got a spicy potato appetizer. Flavour was good. Personally, I would have liked it to be a little more crisp but it was still good regardless. I overheard the table next to us talk about how great the jellyfish was, would love to try that next time. (I'm not eavesdropping I swear! The tables were just close together.) Overall, a great place to get some hand pulled noodles! I highly recommend the Braised Beef Brisket with Medium Wide Noodles!

Got their small Lanzhou beef noodles with extra wide noodles ($11.99) again and it was amazing again. It literally came out piping hot in 1-2 minutes which caught me by surprise. Was served with some hot water on the side. The broth was so flavourful and there was an adequate amount of meat. Felt so satisfied after this meal! Will definitely return.

Braised Beef Noodle Soup with Extremely Wide Noodles
Marlene H.

I'm a sucker for hand pulled noodles! I ordered the Braised Beef Noodle Soup with Extremely Wide Noodles! One of the most delicious hand pulled noodles I've had! The broth was hearty without being too salty. The noodles were perfectly bouncy and chew, my fave! It was so good I had to eat it again for the second time before I left Canada! They let you choose what size noodle you prefer your noodles to be made too!

Special Lanzhou beef noodles (thin noodles, mega size)
Stephen C.

Value for money noodles Service: The staff are friendly, they check your temperature before you walk in and you write down your information for contact-tracing. Food: Ordered a mega bowl of lanzhou noodles, one of two in our group. It's definitely a huge bowl, big enough for two people to share, but the ratio of the beef and other ingredients (radish, cilantro) seemed to be off and it was just a lot of soup and noodles. Ended up finishing it solo, but it was definitely a struggle at the end, would recommend getting a large for one, or mega with extra beef if sharing. The noodle texture was nice and springy/chewy, you can customize the thickness and you can see they pull the noodles by hand inside. The broth was on the lighter side, but the chili oil helped flavour it. Also had the cucumber and jelly fish and the flavours were spicy and tangy, spot on! Overall: Good spot if you're craving hand-pulled noodles.

I've been craving Szechuan-style whole grilled fish for the longest time, so I was really happy…read morewhen I stumbled across this spot while walking on Spadina. The posters outside caught my eye, and I decided to come back with a group of three friends to try it out. We came a bit late around 8 PM, and most of the fish were already sold out except the original. We ended up ordering the Signature Spicy Grilled BBQ Fish ($40), a whole fish served bubbling hot with three toppings (potatoes, spam, and lotus root). You can choose between catfish and turbot, we chose the turbot fish. It looked extremely spicy, but the spice level was actually perfect. It was a bit on the oily side, but pairing it with rice balanced it out nicely. The fish was very tender and buttery, everything tasted amazing! We also ordered the Stir-Fried Egg with Tomato. The eggs were soft, the tomato sauce was rich. Not to mention the portion size was huge, we even had leftovers after eating until we were full. The restaurant itself was spacious, clean, and had plenty of seating. I think they were doing some sort of promotion so they gave us a $25 off coupon, though it expired pretty quickly so we didn't get to use it. I'd definitely come back for that grilled fish.

This is a new Chinese restaurant featuring Hunan and Szechuan cuisine. The spicy dishes emphasize…read morespiciness, not numbness. A few of their dishes come out on a sizzling plate with flames underneath. They are still in soft-opening mode with several specials. You can see the menus via a QR code. The Hunan cuisine is listed as "Hunan Noodles" and the Szechuan cuisine is listed as "Chopfire Menu". The Szechuan dishes are listed with 1 to 3 chilies representing the spiciness. If you can't handle spicy, then avoid eating the chili pieces and you might "survive". The restaurant decided to minimize their food offerings so that they can focus on refining their dishes in terms of quality and taste, including from customer feedback. We ordered the following: 1. Signature Spicy Grilled BBQ Fish ($39.95). 2. Home Stir Fried Beef ($21.95). 3. Bullfrog with Baby Ginger ($19.95). 4. Stir-Fried Cauliflower with Preserved Pork ($15.95). 5. Drunk Oolong (charcoal roasted oolong tea base) x 2 ($5.95 x 2). 6. Lemon Taro Balls ($7.95). We also saw the following: 7. Stir-Fried Sliced Pork with Green Pepper Noodle Soup ($9.99). First 10 customers each day, only pays $1.00. 8. Ink Painting Cocktail ($5.95). The Signature Spicy Grilled BBQ Fish came out on a huge sizzling platter. The BBQ Fish, a Turbot Fish, was very fresh and flaky, easily coming off the bone. There is no head attached like at typical Chinese restaurants but it would not have fit in the platter. The platter had a delicious sauce (soupy consistency and not sweet), luncheon meat slices, lotus root slices, and two other vegetables, along with chili pieces. The entire dish tasted great together with the various flavours. The menu listed it as 2-chili spicy but I could handle it by avoiding the chili pieces. The Home Stir Fried Beef is tender. It is listed as 3-chili but I could handle it by avoiding the chili pieces. The Bullfrog with Baby Ginger has the bullfrog cut up in little pieces; no you don't see a whole frog! The meat was actually good but most pieces have bones in it, so it takes time to eat it carefully. There was ginger slices in it but it, but we thought the slices were quite large! The Stir-Fried Cauliflower with Preserved Pork was very delicious! It came in a sizzling plate. The Cauliflower was flavourful and was not crunchy and not too soft. I've never had preserved pork slices before; it was quite good, not as salty as Chinese preserved vegetables. The Drunk Oolong has comes in a small bowl a with gin and ice. On the side, they include pieces of the charcoal roasted oolong tea leaves so you can smell it; quite a good smell indeed. You can also order it without the gin, which is what I ordered for mine (since I don't drink alcohol). It was such a nice drink! The Lemon Taro Balls dessert was pretty. In the centre was a slice of lemon. The customer service was good. There is plenty of indoor table and counter seating, including a small private room at the back. There is also an outdoor patio during warmer weather. There is pop music playing in the background. There is no free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but there is no door-open button. There are two gender-neutral washrooms downstairs, so they are not wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2025-026

From the moment we walked in, the space already set the tone.. dark, dramatic, elegant, and beautifully designed without feeling overly stiff. It has that upscale energy that makes dinner feel like an occasion before you've even ordered anything. Food-wise, there was a lot to love. The signature apple wood roasted Peking duck was definitely a highlight, especially with the tableside carving, which made the whole experience feel even more polished and memorable. The skin had that beautiful lacquered finish, and the duck was rich, flavorful, and very satisfying. We also ordered a few larger dishes for the table, and I really appreciated how everything still felt refined without losing that comforting, indulgent side of Chinese dining. Some dishes leaned rich and luxurious, others were lighter and more aromatic, so the meal never felt repetitive. Service was another standout. Attentive without hovering, smooth without being too formal.. exactly the kind of service you hope for in a restaurant like this. Delicious duck inside. Good vinegar dipping sauce. Good volume Hot & Sour Iberico Pork Shanghainese Soup Dumplings: Fantastic and unique. Honestly a lot more than any other restaurant that serves this. To be fair no one charges this much either so it should. Flavour could be stronger but certainly decent. Fresh Mango, Coconut, Glutinous Rice Roll: nice fresh dessert. Our favourite. Frozen xiao long bao with chocolate and nut: Tastes like a mochi. Not bad. Dragonball Zen - fun name. Delicious drink. Jasmine Dragon Ball Infused Tanqueray Gin / Peach Liquor Lime / Rose Water / Mint / Seltzer Over $200 for this meal before tip. It's premium an debatable if with it.
