    Ordering dinner before the show.
    Scott V.

We recently visited Garcia's for the first time to see the "Let's Go Girl's: A Century of Women in Country Music" review. My husband bought tickets early, so we ended up with the best seats in the house--centered on the raised section facing the stage. The tables are set up for four, so if you attend as a couple, plan on sharing your table with two other guests. The room is large and beautiful, enhanced by colorful lighting and graphics. A spacious bar flanks the back wall near the entrance. The bathrooms were clean, but be prepared--everything is black, so it's quite dark inside. We arrived early to enjoy dinner before the show. Garcia's menu offers plenty of tempting options. Our server was friendly and efficient. I ordered the coconut lime shrimp (served with grits), and it was both delicious and generously portioned. We shared a beautifully presented house salad. My husband chose the golden chicken sandwich and said it was moist and flavorful. On our server's recommendation, we tried the zucchini croquetas. Unfortunately, they were the only miss of the evening, as they were a bit gummy. The show began promptly at 7:00 p.m., and the band was excellent. My only critique is that, as a classic country fan, I found the playlist leaned heavily toward newer country hits. One small seating note: having center seats along the railing with heavy chairs positioned parallel to the stage meant we had to twist our necks to watch the performance. It wasn't a major issue, but it was slightly uncomfortable. Overall, Garcia's is a wonderful spot to enjoy live music, good food, and a drink. I highly recommend it. Wow! Leftover Salmon's music--they call it "Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass"--left us all wanting more after last night's nearly three-hour concert. We were close enough to count the change in Drew Emmitt's pocket but it was Andy Thorn's virtuosic banjo playing that had our mouths hanging open. Good service including never-empty water bottles; much appreciated.

Beautiful new venue in the west loop area. The space feels spacious and intimate at the same time. Great place to catch a live show with your favorite singers. The servers are very attentive and friendly. We even got a free drink great place to see life music and have some great food and drinks.

This used to be Wishbone!! Now a music lounge and venue, I do like the revamp look. Think a big speakeasy that can still intimidate within a big space. QR and physical menus. I didn't get a chance to order food but the couple of drinks I had were good: Tiger Mule & Mission in the Rain. Definitely try those! The show I was at was popular so customer service was good, though slow at times. You can pay your own bill through the QR or with the Server. The prices were typical for the area and would suggest getting a Uber/Lyft. This venue being so close to Fulton Market and other places, makes this a perfect place to pregame with a show here or pregame and have a dinner with a show.

    Merch Table Set up

I was asked to run the merch table for an artist this past weekend at Garcia's. I didn't know what to expect when walking into the venue but it was better than what I could have imagined. Garcia's is such an intimate venue where the attendees really get an up close and personal show. I believe the capacity is around 300-350 individuals with lots of seating right in front of the stage and standing room off to the side which was deemed general admission for this show. I wanted to extend a huge thank you to Erin Burks for being super attentive of my needs during my two days of being a merch seller. She would check in periodically (fill my water bottle, ask if I wanted to order food, drinks, providing a charger and hangers for the table, etc...). I rarely had to seek her out, she was always around when I needed something. I was really grateful she was there! That being said, the rest of the team at Garcia's was just really warm and welcoming. AJ did amazing with the lights for the band/stage/artist that first night (Friday), there were lots of compliments on her work from attendees and a photographer that was there. The FOOD! The food was really good. The first night I had JERRY'S ROAST BEEF SANDWICH and LEMON ROSEMARY FRIES. This was recommended to me by Toma (security) and this was a great recommendation because it pushed me to order something out of my comfort zone. I have never had prime rib sandwich with a dip. Would definitely get this again. My second night I got the HUSH PUPPIES with honey butter (wish there was more honey but otherwise good!), MINI MISSION STREET DOGS (when they say mini, they are, but they are packed with toppings and flavor - we ordered more later on), THE GOLDEN CHICKEN SANDWICH (they say you can specify grilled or fried, I don't think I specified so it came grilled? But nonetheless it was amazing. I am not a huge pickle fan and I had originally picked them off but took a bite of one to see and WOOOOWEEEEE they packed some spice and flavor, I ate all the pickles). All in all, Garcia's was such a wonderful experience. IF you are hesitant, don't be, I would definitely recommend coming and having that intimate show experience here.

Some friends and I went to go see Elijah Fox show at Garcia's. The venue was absolutely amazing. It was nice and cozy. Our friends got a five top private booth, which I highly recommend it was cozy and comfortable, and we had a great view of the stage. The venue is quite small so the music is extremely loud, but you start to adapt after the first five minutes. The food was pretty average. We ordered some chips and sour cream and onion dip as well as a few drink drinks and we split a Keylime milkshake. I do wish the milkshake was thicker, but it does feel like it was melted a little bit. I also ordered an espresso martini, but it wasn't good however, I did finish it. Even the Diet Coke was flat, but I'm not sure if the night was just super busy but there's definitely some room for improvement with the food. The service was pretty slow, again I suspect because it was pretty busy and our server may have had a lot of tables. The show itself was pretty great. They even put on an encore song. This is a great date night or time out with friends or family. I just wouldn't come for the food, but it's good for drinks as my friends enjoyed their beverages

I don't know why there are any reviews less than 5 stars! We had an excellent time there tonight! The music was great, food was great, and the service was flawless. Our waitress was super attentive, and there was a guy who brought us fresh cold bottles of water not less than three times! I bought tickets late, so my daughter and I were at separate tables. Without me asking, they worked it so we could sit together!

Sweet venue. Saw a band we never heard of and had a jam of a time. Get a group and reserve an entire booth- totally worth it. And shout out to Craig from the box office- incredible customer service! Would go back just knowing good souls are behind the place.

Stage view from the cheap seats!! Last table before the General admission (by the bar!!) So intimate

What a venue!! Not a bad spot in the house. Lots of staffing - several valets street parking as well but for $20 it's worth the curb service. Hush puppies no words. Not cheap - but appropriate portions. And the concert tickets aren't bad. So support the house!

This is from a high top bar thing that is in between the bar and the stage. It faces the stage.

The first time I saw a concert by Grace Potter. She's amazing but didn't make up for the weird vibe in the place. So I went back a second time and saw jazz sax player Frank Catalano. Who I know personally. Couldn't get close enough to even say hello to him. Huge bar, but with no seats. Huge standing area in the back by the bar facing the stage, also no barstools. Not even hooks underneath to hang your coat or purse while you're standing there for three hours watching the concert. The vibe of the place is just off. It's so weird to have a big beautiful bar that you can't sit at. And it's not because it's overly crowded. A friend of mine, who had had a heart transplant could not stand that long so they did let us sit at a side table. So the next time I was there, I asked if I could sit at the side table because I'm a senior. They said sure, any of them that don't have a reserve sign on them. They all had a reserve sign on them and half of them never had anyone seated at them for the entire night. First time there we had some snacks, I believe it was potato chips, it took 45 minutes to get them.

She maintained great service, even when it got busy and she had to help others! Now, let's get to the part that matters most: the food! I loved the subtle yet not overpowering smokiness of the mezcal in the Oaxaca. Neither were too sweet and you could really taste the high quality bourbon. We ordered the Korean fried chicken and coconut shrimp to eat from the happy hour menu. The shrimp was super crispy with a delicious ginger-orange compote and rice vinegar pickled onions. Highly recommend! I did think the chicken was a bit tough, but the flavor was good. Another great experience of many to come! Taylor for a lower price. Sold! I made a reservation and stopped in that week (if not that very day). The Old Fashioned was fantastic! It had strong whiskey notes without hitting you with a wall of spirit the way a Manhattan, for example, does. The other additions of bitters and syrup did a perfect job rounding the cocktail out, adding sweet and savory notes. As much as I love variety, I loved it so much, I ordered two! I can't lie and say this wasn't at least in part due to the reduced price, that notwithstanding, me ordering two of the same is some of the highest, non-verbal praise one could get from me. For a main, I had the opportunity to try the burger, a special only available 5:00 - 6:30, and mind you I eked in by the skin of my teeth. Before I attempt to break this down, though, I need to take a slight tangent: Do any of you remember the quote from The Menu where Anya Taylor-Joy says: "A real cheeseburger. Not some fancy, deconstructed, affluent b***s***, a *real* cheeseburger."? I am pleased to report the burger here was somewhere between Chef Slowik's "very traditional cheeseburger" and the one Taylor Joy describes! In other words, just fancy enough to feel like I am getting a unique, creative, well thought out dish, but without all the pomp and circumstance! There's just one little problem: as soon as I bit into it, the juices erupting from within soaked the bottom bun, and turned it into a fork and knife affair with an unseen level of precision and speed. Very regrettably, this was the burger's undoing. That first, heavenly bite that had angels singing showed what the burger was really made of (and I mean this figuratively and literally). The beef was of the highest quality, well-seasoned, cooked medium and juicy, with a perfect sear that would have Louis Camille Maillard crying tears of joy. Two types of cheese (one being crisp and airy, the other thoroughly gooey and savory), the perfect amount of bacon, moisture and flavor from a tempura tomato, and divine sauces! One of them was a little sweet, which elevated the flavor like no one's business. Together, all these flavors were a symphony that could give Beethoven a run for his money. However, that unfortunate fact that the thing fell apart so quickly meant that symphony was limited to one bite, the rest being encountered piecemeal. I would rather skip fries than skip dessert (which I did), and ordered the Mango cheesecake. Such velvety perfection! Neither the sweetness nor the mango notes were overpowering, and while it didn't have the crust of a traditional cheesecake, the more gentle variant here absolutely works. I also appreciated the tart sorbet to offer some contrast in flavor, temperature, and texture. Now, let me talk about the service. Given that the restaurant was at capacity, the bar service and speed to get my items was reasonable. Could it hypothetically have been just a touch faster/more attentive? Yes, but in practice, when you have a full house, this is as good as it can get before robots take over. Finally, there is the matter of prices. There is no doubt in my mind that the quality is up there, at the same time, the reason I skipped the side of fries was it would have set me back $11. I suppose the real question is whether or not the quality equals the price, and after some reflection, I think the answer is yes, but one must be prepared for the sticker shock ahead of time. That said, the final verdict: The Franklin Room absolutely delivers on an all-around fantastic meal. I think whatever you order will be in the 90th percentile, at worst! However, this comes at a cost. Therefore, I would love to return to the Franklin Room, but it would likely be more a very occasional treat than a place where I'd be a regular.

This year I was so excited to bring my family and Ema was the only restaurant in Chicago I couldn't wait for them to try. I booked it as our final meal in Chicago and lay awake at 4am being so disappointed in my choice. Our server's greeting was monotone and emotionless, which I realize now, would be foreshadowing the meal to come. Ordered the following 1) Smoky eggplant- arrived appearing as an unappetizing curdled purple grey mush. This was the worst tasting baba ghanouj I have ever eaten. It was acidic and had the texture of cottage cheese. The only redeeming thing about this appetizer was the warm naan. 2) house made stratciatella with side of green falafels- The stratciatella was bland and stringy. I would not order this dish expecting the creamy interior of typical burrata. However, if you like string cheese mixed with heavy cream- you may enjoy this dish. The tomatoes and basil were good. 3) chicken kefta- kefta was bland, rice even blander . 4) short rib with polenta- bland and the meat and polenta had the same texture, which seems impossible but somehow the plating was over complicated by the addition of mushy dates and grapes. 5) buttered noodles- my 8 year old ordered this. It was decent with a good amount of Parmesan and cooked perfectly al dente. By the end of the meal, I was so shocked by how terrible the food was I didn't even want to order the sticky date cake that was my main purpose for returning to this restaurant. Ema, what happened to you?!
