Amazing food, reasonable price. It's one of the best northeastern Chinese food I had in US. The flavor and texture are right on spot. Recommend, 溜肉段,大拉皮, 拉面。

I was very excited that a Lanzhou noodle shop opened in Edison. We ordered the standard noodle soup, a dry zhajiang noodle, fried pork chop, and eggplant. The fried pork had a really crispy coating and a sweet light glaze (4/5). The eggplant with minced meat was super oily. Probably a cup of oil on the plate. The eggplant skin was super tough. Flavor was just ok. (2/5) Lastly the noodles. The dry zhajiang noodle was good. The sauce was flavorful and coats the noodles well, but there wasn't enough (4/5). The waiter added more when request, which was nice of him. At first I wanted to order the braised beef noodle soup but it was not available. So we settled for the Original one. The noodles were fine but the soup was quite bland with little amounts of meat. Extra meat costs more. (3.5/5) Lot of room to improve, but good start. Overall it was ok.

Location: in a small strip mall across from h mart in rt 27 in Edison, parking in the back. There's entrance to the store in the back. Food: we tried their Lanzhou la mian, which was just ok. The soup barely have any taste, the noodle was good. There was 6 thin slices of beef. The zhajiangmian was pretty good, I needed extra meat sauce. The eggplant dish we had was super oily. flavor is there but it's drenched in oil. Crazy! You can watch the chef making the la mian via window. Environment: small restaurant with booth and chair seating. I like the china they use. Very Oriental. Service: good and attentive. Price: reasonable pricing. It was $67 for 4 of us. Overall: it's just soft open now so I'll give them time. Noodle itself was al dente and good.

Tried out this new noodle house specializing in Lan Zhou (a city in NW China specializing in) hand-pulled noodles. They only offer one thin kind noodle in a clear broth flavored with beef stock and some spices like cumin and pepper. In addition they had noodle in spicy bean sauce. The sauce was very dark and strong. i also had Lamb with Scallion over Rice and Marinated Pig Feet. Both were pretty tasty, esp. the smoky flavored pig feet.

Ordered lan Zhou noodle, spicy beef noodle, shredded potato, and water boiled beef. I'm gonna fight my impulse to give this place 5 stars and give it 4 stars instead. The lan Zhou noodle was exactly how I imagined it would be. Spicy beef noodle and water boiled beef were good too; the water boiled beef is not the traditional szechuan style, but was still great. Will be coming back here, reserving judgment on the 5 stars.

Looks like someone chewed up meat and spit it into my wife's noodle soup

Update: decided to give this place another chance. Never again. They no longer have hand made noodles, which was their main and probably only selling point. It's all machine made now, which the waitress confirmed. After sitting down and ordering, we heard someone in the kitchen snort LOUDLY and hock a huge loogie. The window to look into the kitchen is now covered so you can't see what goes on back there anymore. We watched a waiter (who was here last time we were here too, so he's not a newbie) walk out of the kitchen with a bowl of noodles and ask another waitress loudly where table B2 was. Dude, that's your only job! There's only 3 tables filled here, not even busy! So within half an hour we saw that this restaurant is dirty and disorganized. I couldn't even taste the food to review because i had PTSD from the sound of that loogie the chef hocked up. Never again.

I've tried so called hand pulled noodle, emm it taste weird, I figured it must contain potassium carbonates water in the noodle, overdosed potassium carbonate can cause very serious hepatotoxicity!! So, paid $8.90 plus tax for food poisoning? NO! Get away from this noodle house, RUN!! btw the waitress is very unhappy to work there and the manager his act like a idiot. God bless! Peace!

Accept: American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa Parking: In the back. Turn in from Loring Ave If you are reading this while waiting in line at Dunhuang, you should come here instead. It's right across the street and the noodle soup taste much better. I have been here half a dozen times, and their noodle is consistently al dente. Their braised beef noodle's beef are stewed packed with flavor and the soup taste has a deep dark flavor. If you want lighter flavor soup order their Lanzhou noodle Since their open they have added small dishes on the menu. You can go up to their cold dish counter with 5-6 dishes and select the dishes you want or you can mix 3 for the price of 1. Recently they introduced that if you spend over $20 you get one cold dish free. They have a giant window that you can see the entire kitchen so when they make the noodle you will see it. The other benefit is they better keep it tip top shape and clean. Each table has a bottle of soy sauce, vinegar, hot oil, salt, a bundle of chopsticks, and stack of paper napkin (Don't have to constantly ask waiter for napkins YAY) The only caveat I have is they are still going through some business changes so be prepare to order something on the menu and they won't have it in their system. But so far majority of the changes they had made is for the better.

The service is very friendly and patient (and American friendly). The food comes out lightning fast. Everything is very reasonably priced. Best of all, it's all delicious. I tried stuff outside of my comfort zone and I loved it all. My favorite were the pork juicy buns (soup dumplings) but the most unique thing was the pan fried noodle which was like a crispy deep fried noodle that would soften as it sat in the sauce. The golden lava buns were sweet and rich and perfect for dessert.

We were second standing outdoors waiting in this big fat long line. Immediately upon opening for the day the line nearly forced entry near stampede and this cafe was immediately packed to full occupancy of patrons with free seating. The Yelp reviews are accurate and truthful. The food is great. This is a small cafe with only approximately eight tables. I do not recommend large parties of five and greater. It is no-frills, but not exactly "hole in the wall" type that lack in aesthetics for upscale lavish atmosphere but the deficiency is resolved in the food quality. There is one sole functioning restroom in the whole business, ergo, stand in line and wait. We entered hungry in a lugubrious sense of deep sorrow, but exited hunger pangs fulfilled. When exiting upon completion of our lunch meal, there was a line that quickly formed outdoors waiting. Unfortunately, access to this cafe in Edison, NJ is by car only and there is a free parking lot that is shared with neighboring businesses located in a small shopping complex. There are no business cards, and no takeout menus available. Customer service is efficient as the staff worked methodically hustling busy to take orders and fulfillment. Our male waiter was attentive to respond to our inquiries and make suggestions based on our desires. I was able to keep the sales receipt. Price is in the rationale realm of stagflation totaling $41.75. Nota Bene: No table hibernation as the table turnover is fast pace with a line overflowing outdoors which cannot interrupt the flow. My foodie synopsis: Pork steam soup dumplings, 6 pcs, siu2 lung4 baau1, 小籠包, $8.75 Very juicy, flavorful and great. It was served piping hot. This is my favorite default dish for every visit at any Shanghainese ethnic cuisine. However, there were no serving tongs provided for this particular appetizer which is industry standard. Preserved cabbage with pork noodle soup, syut3 coi3 juk6 si1 min6, 雪菜肉絲麵 $9.50 This is a satisfying Chinese comfort food. This noodle soup was abundant with noodles, pork and chopped vegetables. It provided warmth to my very broken heart. Shanghai chicken in wine sauce, zeoi3 gai1, 醉雞, $8.95 A traditional Chinese cold appetizer, aka Chinese Drunken chicken made with Chinese Shaoxing cooking wine. It has amazing flavor and texture to be deliciously enticing. Of course, the cooking wine brings flavor to this appetizer making you want more. Shanghai pan fried U-Don noodle, soeng6 hoi2 cou1 caau2 min6, 上海粗炒面, $11.95 Abundant noodles with good consistency and it not heavily filled with grease and oil.

Although the decor is simple, the bold use of red and gold makes it highly memorable--and the space is very clean. Even though the bowls and chopsticks are disposable, there's clear attention to detail. The chopsticks feel great to use, and they are even engraved with "上海小笼," which is a thoughtful touch. The bowls are made of thick, sturdy paper, with a beautiful red base and gold rim--both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly. Ordering is done through a self-service kiosk, but there are still staff members nearby. When it's not busy, they are friendly and happy to assist with any questions. The Noodle in Scallion Sauce (上海葱油拌麵) has a rich scallion oil flavor with perfectly chewy noodles, while the Cold Noodle w. Peanut Butter Sauce (麻將涼拌麵) is packed with a strong peanut flavor and equally chewy texture. Both dishes are delicious and taste very similar to Taiwanese sesame noodles. Turned out to be a great choice. Although not easy to find on the tail end of a nondescript commercial strip, we saw its sign and walked in to a decent sized dining room with a half dozen booths along one wall and about a dozen tables spread across the remainder. Plenty of original watercolors displayed and for sale on the walls. David the proprietor seemed to be handling most of the operation himself. He sat us, took our order, disappeared into the kitchen to participate in its preparation and served our four courses to us in traditional style - separately as ready. The food was excellent. We chose from both the lunch and regular menu, which were integrated seamlessly. Fried Pork Chop, Crispy Fried Intestine, Fish Fillets in Chili Sauce from the mains, and Orange Beef from the lunch list. I started with Hot &Sour Soup, which was flavorful and loaded with tofu, sprouts, pork slivers and potent vinegar. Loved it! The Pork Chop was deboned and pressed thin. The result was a crisp sliced Katsu-like cutlet with nice flavor and long crunchy chew. The Intestine was also crisp and filled with green beans that mixed well with the hardened shell and soft innards. Not my fave, but my lovely partner ate it enthusiastically. The Fish and Chili was very good, with tender lightly breaded white fish fillets and red chili sauce that included small pieces of celery, sprouts and cabbage, in a large bowl. Finally, the lunch sized Orange Beef was delicious with sweet and spicy amber sauce coating the pieces of lightly crisped beef. Ubiquitous broccoli sprigs added color to the dish. Service was friendly and accommodating. David was happy to interact and talk about his business there. Red Onion is a Five Star keeper.

If you're in NJ and craving Hong Kong-style wonton noodle soup, head to Wonton Guy in Edison. It's a no-frills local gem tucked away in a tiny strip mall off Route 27, with a few parking spots out front and more in the back. The space is small (only 10 tables!) and nothing fancy, but the value is hard to beat. It's always busy, and after you take your first slurp of the soup, you'll get why. Service is fast, so the tables turn over quickly. I was able to grab a seat when I walked in on a Saturday evening. The menu is simple and offers 3 main options: 1.) noodle soup with toppings 2.) soup with toppings (no noodles) 3.) lo mein with toppings served with soup on the side From there, you pick your noodle type (egg, flat rice, vermicelli), as well as up to 3 toppings (wontons, dumplings, beef brisket, etc.). There are also a few side dishes like shredded pork in chili tomato sauce, deep fried fish skin, and curry fish balls. They even sell some items raw like wontons, noodles, dumplings, and sliced beef. And the best part is... the prices are very affordable! Most of the dishes are around $11-$16. My order: *Two Toppings (wonton + beef brisket) Noodle Soup [$12.75] - Where do I begin? Every single part of this meal SLAPPED. The wontons were MUMBO JUMBO and generously filled with fresh, plump shrimp that were sweet and juicy. The noodles were soft and springy. The beef brisket was SO tender with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. And the broth? Super rich, aromatic, and savory. It's made of shrimp skin, pork bone, dried flounder fish, dried shrimp, and dried monk fruit, but it doesn't taste fishy at all. Each table is stocked with condiments like vinegar, homemade chili oil, and soy sauce to customize your soup. The chili oil packs some SERIOUS HEAT, so watch out. This was hands down one of the best noodle soups I've had. I was sad when I finished it :-( *Hong Kong-style Milk Tea [$6] - I really enjoyed this! The black tea was bold and strong--almost too strong for me, but the milk balanced it out nicely. I only wish it had boba! Everything tasted authentic. Quick backstory: The owner comes from a family with GENERATIONS of experience making wontons and running noodle shops in Hong Kong. He grew up there and brought those family traditions to his own restaurants in Toronto... and now Edison. All those years of experience clearly show in his food. The broth is simmered overnight, and the wontons are freshly prepared every morning. No shortcuts here--just decades of tradition, skill, and a whole lot of love in every bowl. Ugh, I wish I lived closer because I'd be a regular. It's hard these days to find a place that REALLLLLLY delivers a memorable meal that's both tasty, reasonably priced, and served in generous portions. If you're within driving distance and debating whether it's worth the trip--DON'T! Wonton Guy is absolutely worth a visit, even if it's just once. I drove an hour to try it, and I still think about those wontons all the time... no joke LOL.
