We showed up unannounced with about 15 people and were seated almost instantly at about 9:30 on a Friday night, which was pretty awesome. Many people in our group were pretty inebriated and yet Nury was able to deal with all of us. I've ordered a salad to go from here twice. The first time they didn't give me any dressing which is an understandable mistake so I gave them a second chance. I shouldn't have. I paid almost $15 for the worlds worst salad. My tomatoes barely resembled tomatoes. There were still skins on the two slivers of avocado they gave me and there was barely anything else on the salad. Then they didn't care to ask how our food was, or notice that my salad came out wo dressing, they just wanted to know if I needed another glass of wine. Salad sucked. It was loaded with lettuce, which I wouldn't normally complain about but there was no room on the plate to move it around and there was only about 3 really thinly sliced cucumbers and a couple cherry tomatoes. This basement in the middle of Providence's downtown area is far from dingy...the big open space gives almost a warehouse meets gastro pub feel and with private lounges to rent, karaoke rooms, pool tables, shuffle board and a BIG bar you're sure to keep busy...and that's before you even peek at the menu! I suggest starting off with the bees knees cocktail (beer, gin, honey and lemon) it's deliciously refreshing with a kick! We tried a few hot dogs and side dishes like the gravy truffle fries and Mac and cheese and all were good - but nothing beat the Chicago dog, simple and good! So disappointed in the staff and food. Upon entering we were quasi-greeted. We mentioned we were meeting a group and despite the room being semi-empty we were told the were almost booked up so we could go to the high tables or bar. We asked 3 times if there was another "area" and never advised of the rooftop. After sitting at the high table for 10 minutes we asked if we could get wait staff and advised we could order from the bar or request a waiter. Really? We ordered drinks, nothing special and the special of the day--Cuban sandwiches. What a disappointment! Expecting nice pork tenderloin and crunchy pickles we got limp, barely pickled pickles and a panini hot dog bun. The food was just there but the use of a smashed hot dog bun was unappetizing. Saving grace were the phenomenal fries. As for staff, anytime we asked questions we were given the "not my job" attitude, even from the bartender when we asked for our bill. When the place started filling up you could see 3 waitresses standing at the end of the bar doing nothing. Management takes that hit as they should have specific expectations for staff. On the upside, as we left we asked again if there was another location and this time we were informed of the rooftop. I went to the G Pub with a group of girls from work I have not seen in while. If you are looking to hear anyone talk next to you this is not the place. It was very loud and we happened to be there during trivia night which was horrible. The guy doing the trivia you could hardly understand because he was talking so loud and it was already loud in there. We left to stand outside for most of the night. The other big issue is the food! I've been to G Pub a few times for drinks, but just recently tried their menus. This review is for both the bar and event visits. Atmosphere: G Pub takes the sports pub vibe and gives it an industrial, slightly upscale twist: think exposed beams, drafter's chairs, a mix of dark and hardwood, and lots of slate and steel. This place is huge, and it shows on a weeknight. However, I've been here several times for game day, and it gets packed, no joke. They also have a very cool rec area with foosball, pool tables, and karaoke rooms. Food: Pretty damn good. Oh...you want to know what we ate. Yellowfin Tuna Wrap: AMAZING. A generous portion of tuna, lightly seasoned and cooked rare (as ordered), on a thin and crispy wheat wrap with pickled peppers, arugula, and a miso mayo that blew my socks off. A balanced and delicious sandwich. Cobb Salad: Fresh, cold, huge, delicious. Lots of crumbly bacon. Need I say more? Brisket Quesadilla: Your basic quesadilla with a brisket twist (I guess). Nicely seasoned. Fried Chicken Sandwich/Sweet Potato Fries: Stale bun, Oily fries, which were not worth the $5.00 upcharge (sandwiches are served a la carte). Service: A mixed bag. Be prepared to wait a loooong time to get noticed and get served once the bar seats fill up. During the seated meal, our server was friendly and attentive, although drink service (both bar and soda refills) was hard to come by( odd, considering how quiet the venue was). G Pub really impressed me. Cool atmosphere with lots of space and TVs. It was very busy and noisy, but it was a Saturday night, so it was to be expected. Service was good, if a bit inattentive. Great beer selection. The homemade chips and spread were a tasty value at $3. Mussels were a nice treat, served in a I-want-to-drink-from-the-bowl broth with lots of toasted bread for soaking. Finally an awesome sports bar in Providence. Great food, great service and very well managed. The prices for burgers are great and the macaroni side dish was amazing. My server Kirsten was easy on the eyes and very attentive. The setup of the place reminds me of Lincoln in Boston with a very industrial decor and modern and clean feel. They even splurged on the silverware. They really went all out on this place. There are a ton of Tvs for watching games. My only suggestion for improvement...invest in free wifi as there is literally no cell service. read more

Apparently, there was an issue with Open Table and G pub was completely full with a private party. The manager came right over and rather than apologizing and turning us away he set us up in one of the private rooms and treated us amazing. Talk about turning a potentially bad situation around, this was great. The G Pub is an interesting place. The vibe inside is cool, but it's a gigantic space, and feels somewhat chain-restaurant-ish. We were greeted immediately by our waitress, who found us a table right away. We didn't have reservations, so we ended up at a high top in the bar area, which wasn't the most comfortable, but a-okay. The food was pretty good, but nothing out of this world. I had a Caesar salad, which was tangy and delicious for an appetizer, whole my friends shared the duck confit nachos. The description of the dish sounded amazing, and I would have eaten some myself, but alas, it was not gluten-free. When the nachos arrived, though, they didn't look all that special, and my boyfriend rates them with a shrug. On to the burgers. These are the stars of the show. I had the Eiffel Tower sans bun, and every one of its parts was delectable. My egg wasn't quite as runny as I would have liked, but that's not the end of the world. The truffle mayo was yummy, and even the accompanying pickle was stellar. I also appreciate that they have Crispin cider on the menu, which is one of my favorites and is rarely on menus. Our service was probably the best part of the experience. Our server was checking up on us frequently enough that we were never without a full glass of beer and never waiting around to order or for the check. I also appreciate that she checked in with the kitchen several times to make sure that the dishes I wanted to order were gluten-free. The manager also popped over quickly to see how everything was going. All in all, the service was very attentive, but in no way overbearing, which I really appreciate. All in all, I think that the G Pub is a nice addition to the PVD dining scene. It's nothing super special, but at the same time there's nothing quite like it. I can definitely see myself returning to the G Pub when I'm looking for a tasty burger or I want to watch a game on one of the many TVs that line the walls of this basement restaurant. Overall, just not great. Went for a friends birthday with 8 total in the party. Cocktails were fine, server forgot a few drinks the first round which was no biggie but worth noting. My main issue was the food. About every meal was underwhelming. Salad was fine, fried pickles chips were mushy and not properly battered or fried. Fish for fish and chips were fried to the point of a dark crust and the Statler chicken breast was about a half size of what it should have been given that cut of chicken. I've really liked G Pub since their first day open. The concept is cool and although its so low key it attracts a wide variety of people. Happy hour its chock full of professionals and at night the college crowd pours in by the boat loads. Very relaxed, with private rooms that you can hang in with your friends and do karaoke in (free of charge on the weekdays). The rooms have TVs and taps for beer. There are a few pool tables, not sure how much it costs though. I love the menu. They have such a good variety and the prices range from like $2-$20, making it easy to try a lot of stuff without breaking the bank. I really like the chili edamame, the mussels and the fried chicken entree was bomb. Not sure if the rooftop is considered the same as G Pub but the rooftop is awesome too. Totally different vibe, more upscale but beautiful! You can over look the whole city. The menu is a little more expensive and hoity-toity with oysters, shrimp cocktail, ceviche, etc. Also the liquor costs more on the roof. But its a nice crowd of professionals and an amazing place if the weather cooperates. TRY IT! read more

(It's a very busy pub so I recommend you guys to do reservations) everyone of their staffs were friendly & the food was amazing ! I will definitely go back with some more friends next week. Great concept and space (shuffleboard and private karaoke rooms with self-serve taps - hooray!); TVs galore: perfect destination for March Madness. Food and drink were good, but need slight improvement. I had 3 American Mules (yeah, boycott Putin's Russia). Each tasted different. One was flat, one was too limey, one was just right. Similar inconsistency with the corn dogs. One of the 4 was over-fried, another was smaller and drowned in the sauce. I'd recommend serving the sauce as a side bowl. Finally, the deserts: The apple pie a la mode was very stingy with the crust and ice cream. And the bread pudding was more like cake. But, all in all, a good time. read more

G Pub didn't thrill me. Yes, the space is beautiful. That was pretty much where it ended. We sat at the bar for apps and drinks, helped by 3 different bartenders. Two were great, the one who happened to be near us most had absolutely no personality. We started with cocktails. My friend got 'the beers knees' which was yummy, I can't remember the name of mine because it was so forgettable and tasted like straight grapefruit juice. We ordered the chip and beer cheese dip app and the chi town dog and an Eiffel Tower burger, we decided to spilt it all because it all sounded so good. -chips were homemade and yummy, dip had literally no flavor, it was like dipping chips in a sauce of empty calorie with no payoff -burger meat was literally crumbling in our hands -fried egg on top was way overcooked -hot dog was cold, I could see it being really great if it didn't seem like it had been sitting out all day And clearly no one ever came over to see how the food was so we left once finished. The nachos were awful, fake cheese with minimal toppings. With all the restaurants in the area serving fantastic nachos, you would think this new place would step it up. I was with a group of 8 and everyone ordered a burger or a hot dog. I ordered the turkey sandwich. Everyone's meal came except mine. I waited.....and waited....finally had to tell the waitress, who never noticed I didn't get my food. She said I put in your order let me check. Again, I waited. Finally I just cancelled my order as almost everyone at the table was already done with their food. Extremely disappointing. I've been to G pub three times - three days in a row and I keep going back because it's just a great atmosphere; but the last time might be my final time. I've eaten most of the burgers and half of the apps and snacks, so I will tell you the food is great, the service is okay. With the being said, I got overcharged by the restaurant, by $20. One of my friends was running late so my friend and I ordered nachos and some drinks. One of the drinks I ordered wasn't favorable to my stomach so the waitress kindly took it off my tab. After arriving, put in her drink order. We asked the busboy to find our waitress after not seeing our waitress for about 20 minutes. Everything else went well, and our separate checks came. The next day, I was charged over $50 for a burger (no sides), a drink and beer - even with the drinks the waitress supposedly took off and my tip (which was above 20%). Today was my third time visiting G Pub for dinner. The first time was there I was very happy with the burger I ordered. My second visit was on Feb. 13th and my sister and I asked a number of friends to join us here to celebrate our birthday. Not one person was happy with their food- burgers were all over cooked, fish tacos were missing the sauce, and other dishes were cold. It was the night before Valentine's Day and they were packed, so we figured that the kitchen was slammed and it was just an off night. Today my sister and I returned wanting to give them another try and once again were quite disappointed with our food. I ordered the brisket quesadillas which had no flavor, were soggy, and the meat was dry and quite fatty on the ends. My sister ordered the fish tacos and with the exception of the sauce drizzled on top, also had zero flavor. The menu seems so innovative, yet they appear to cook with no seasonings and the food is bland. I will say that the truffle fries were amazing, the service is fast, and they have an impressive craft beer list. If I ever make my way back here, it will be strictly for beer and fries. read more

G Pub is a stellar, new example of how Providence could teach other cities a thing or two about the successful revitalization of old spaces, and how to make them new in exciting ways. The old gas company has been re-lit, and re-imagined, as a prime destination for burgers (especially) and all sorts of other comfort food staples. Seven of us piled into a corner booth here recently, for a Friday lunch. The place was packed with lots of people who had the same idea: bidding sayonara to the long workweek in a setting far more celebratory than the traditional lunch "al desko." The restaurant and adjoining bar area is spacious, and cavernous. It's one part sports bar, one part Edison's workshop: light fixtures have been fashioned from old pilsner glasses, the rest of the interior design hints of the city's industrial roots, and there are televisions everywhere--mostly showing different games, matches, and sports commentary. I decided to start with the basic "original burger" (when I like "basic," I always return and work my way up to "complex"). Though I typically like to state how I want my burger done (medium rare, always!), this is not an option here. Burgers are all cooked to the same heat level. That usually scares me. But interestingly, everyone at the table reported that their individual burger was cooked to their satisfaction, including me...even though I'm sure our tastes run the gamut, from "burn the bejeezus out of my meat" to "just run it through a warm room, and we'll call it a day." A couple members of our party ordered the Eiffel Tower burger. Served with mushrooms, caramelized onions, truffle mayo, gruyere cheese, and a fried egg, I've decided that the next stop on my trip 'round G Pub's 'burger world' is Paris. Burgers are served a la carte, so if you want to add anything else to your plate - including fries - you have to order them separately. A bit irksome, but it did provide some forced restraint (when left to my own devices, I'm terrible at impulse control). A week ago, I experienced the G's rooftop bar, which hosted the inaugural StyleWeek SWIM runway shows. It was a glorious, early-summer Sunday afternoon: the kind that bathed downtown in a buzzy heat, and the perfect setting in which to watch some of the city's foremost designers dip their toes in the water of swimwear, cover-ups, and short sets, showing off their resort collections. Teaming an old architectural beauty (that's been thoroughly modernized) with so many new and beautiful creations, was a terrific way to introduce the venue to hundreds of city folk. In this sense, G Pub and its rooftop bar are a cool compliment to its neighbor, The Arcade. This will be a welcome summer destination for those weekends spent within city limits, and on weeknights when daylight lingers well past quitting time. read more

In Providence just for the night and after trying to go to Al Forno's and being told the wait was over two hours, we ended up here just because it was close to the hotel. Accidental perfection! The food was so good! From the name you might think, oh it's just pub food, but it's incredible pub food. I had the Chicken Pot Pie and my mum had the Roast Chicken Dinner and oh my God. It was delicious. I honestly have never had better pot pie, and both meals came with these little fingerling potatoes. I desperately want to know how they prepare those, because they were phenomenal. If someone from the restaurant reads this, hit me up! How do you cook these potatoes, they were perfectly done and still crispy. Yum. We also had the Harvest Sangria, which was also very good. It has a spiced house cider in it that has a very interesting flavor. I'd definitely recommend it. read more

I'm not sure I'd ever want to step foot in this establishment again after the horrible experience last night. A group of 5 of us initially arrived, and we informed the hostess we'd have more showing up. Instead of placing us at the large, already available table, she posted us at small tables for 2 or 4 and made us move them together. We were then approached by a manager that we were creating a fire hazard, even though we were doing what the hostess told us to do. We sat a good 10 minutes before anyone came over to even welcome us, ask about drinks, or bring water. The first round went fine, once we were able to order, and by this time our table had grown to 10 (which were seated at different level tables that were rocking and making things difficult). For our second round of drinks, I was informed that the spirit I was ordering was out of stock now, so they suggested a replacement. No big deal...but this figures into the bill later. At this time we also order food, because the kitchen closes in 30 minutes. Tables are showing up after us, and getting their food before us at this point, about 30 minutes after we order. The server comes and tries to say that the rare steak a friend ordered was holding us up. A third round of drinks and another 15 minutes goes by and our food arrives. My food is incorrect, completely missing the protein, and she disappears before I can comment. She arrives back about 10 minutes later, I inform her, and she says she'll have the kitchen fix it (the kitchen that's been closed for 30 minutes now). She never returns with the protein...when I left an hour later she never did. So we get the bill...and she says she it it all together because she just assumed it would be one bill. We never requested this and she shouldn't assume people that show up at later times (friends showed up after the kitchen had closed) should be added. She told us we had to figure out how much each was, because she couldn't remember, and then she could charge cards or whatever. I wasn't drunk, but that's a horrible thing to make anyone do. I finally asked for the manager after reading the receipt, because the spirit I had ordered initially was showing up many more times than I was served. However, she apparently "found more" and had been bringing it to us the whole time. Additionally, another spirit was listed that we never ordered. The manager finally came over almost 10 minutes later, when a member of our party when and got him. He (Eric) was able to help alleviate the issues by removing the incorrect drinks and providing a percentage off to help compensate for the horrible service. Sadly, this was a going away party/get together for someone so this placed a big rain cloud over our night. read more

First whenever I heard the name I thought the G stands for Gastrique so to my own fault I arrived looking for tart to sweet sauces and inventive ideas on the menu. This is a pub/ bar menu because this is really a pub in a basement setting with a couple of pool tables. Plenty of space for large parties and lot's of tables to accommodate. TV's everywhere for optimal viewing of a game, music to keep the fun going. The food was fair but forgettable. I had the fish tacos & hubby had the fried chicken. The service was not good. We were sat promptly as it was not busy. We didn't see a server for about 10 minutes or more after we were sat and the night progressed just as slow as it started. If you drive by G Pub, you will miss it so keep your eyes open for the sign! Also, love that they have a coat check as we headed here on a cold night even though spring had already sprung. It was packed on a Saturday night (wish they would get rid of the tables after dinner) and getting drinks at the bar wasn't super easy but I loved my cocktail and would def recommend many of their drinks. G-Pub is great. I've been here a couple of times. The name is misleading, it is not a gangster rap filled homie-hangout. It's gastro pub. Fortunately, I had my reversible gangster rapper/east side yuppie outfit on, so it was an easy fix. The interior is bananas. It looks so sweet inside. Very masculine, industrial style design aesthetics touched all about. A couple of pool tables and a shuffleboard table in back. The beer selection is solid and reasonable priced. They even have wines on tap for those that are not really into beer. I chowed down on truffle oil and gravy covered fries (uh, yum), duck confit nachos (flawless) and a burger. Avoiding a coronary was not my goal, obviously, when it came to this dinner -- but it was well worth potential arterial occlusions, because this was on point. Get to G-Pub, yo! read more

Underwhelmed! That is the perfect word to use for an experience here. I like the concept of the pub, which is situated downstairs in the main building. I get the Spartan look, it's very NY, but my problem is the menu and the food. Having been to pubs in the city and around the world, I can only describe this menu as disappointing. The offerings are bland and not much stood out. Ok, one thing stood out. This place wants to be the Capital Grille of pubs with their pricing and their ala carte. There are higher end restaurants in the vicinity that do not do this so why would a common pub? I munched on a Cobb salad, but it wasn't anything remarkable; standard stuff that even the dreaded chain Gregg's carries. And I'm sure they have the same distributor. My friend's sandwich was TINY and only tasted decent. Honestly, I think they need to have the executive chef rethink the menu- this was just a disappointment on every level except service. Decent little spot! We come here a lot after work for an wind down adult beverage. Re done really nice in the basement. Cool spot to watch a game too... All new flat screen TVs. Nice lighting. Food is OK the menu is small not much to choose from. My recommendation go out to eat then come here for a little after dinner cocktail! read more

Two stars because the food is delicious and the smell the burgers will make your mouth water. The G Pub anytime after 8:30 p.m. is a waste. To even use the words service in this review would be a joke. They are the antithesis of service. We were there for an hour before we even recognized someone from the wait staff to request being served. We then waited an additional 45 minutes to receive a down right nasty attitude from our 'waitress'. Our experience with her was downright abhorrent. If you're in your thirties and looking for a knockoff Bostonian experience; G Pub is your place. If you want to scream all of your words at the person across the table from you, not receive service all night, and pretend you're having a totally unique experience; G Pub is for you!
