This was not what I thought it would be. First whenever I heard the name I thought the G stands for Gastrique so to my own fault I arrived looking for tart to sweet sauces and inventive ideas on the menu. This is a pub/ bar menu because this is really a pub in a basement setting with a couple of pool tables. Plenty of space for large parties and lot's of tables to accommodate. TV's everywhere for optimal viewing of a game, music to keep the fun going. The food was fair but forgettable. I had the fish tacos & hubby had the fried chicken. The service was not good. We were sat promptly as it was not busy. We didn't see a server for about 10 minutes or more after we were sat and the night progressed just as slow as it started. If I go again I would go for a drink at the bar. read more

This is a review for just the bar scene as we haven't eaten here and I don't feel it is appropriate to review. Let's start with parking: HOME RUN for valet (free) right outside the door. If you drive by G Pub, you will miss it so keep your eyes open for the sign! Also, love that they have a coat check as we headed here on a cold night even though spring had already sprung. It was packed on a Saturday night (wish they would get rid of the tables after dinner) and getting drinks at the bar wasn't super easy but I loved my cocktail and would def recommend many of their drinks. G-Pub is great. I've been here a couple of times. The name is misleading, it is not a gangster rap filled homie-hangout. It's gastro pub. Fortunately, I had my reversible gangster rapper/east side yuppie outfit on, so it was an easy fix. The interior is bananas. It looks so sweet inside. Very masculine, industrial style design aesthetics touched all about. A couple of pool tables and a shuffleboard table in back. The beer selection is solid and reasonable priced. They even have wines on tap for those that are not really into beer. I chowed down on truffle oil and gravy covered fries (uh, yum), duck confit nachos (flawless) and a burger. Avoiding a coronary was not my goal, obviously, when it came to this dinner -- but it was well worth potential arterial occlusions, because this was on point. Get to G-Pub, yo! read more

I went here for a work lunch right when it opened so it was pretty empty but I can imagine on the weekend and after work hours this place could be a great hang out. Underwhelmed! That is the perfect word to use for an experience here. I like the concept of the pub, which is situated downstairs in the main building. I get the Spartan look, it's very NY, but my problem is the menu and the food. Having been to pubs in the city and around the world, I can only describe this menu as disappointing. The offerings are bland and not much stood out. Ok, one thing stood out. This place wants to be the Capital Grille of pubs with their pricing and their ala carte. There are higher end restaurants in the vicinity that do not do this so why would a common pub? I munched on a Cobb salad, but it wasn't anything remarkable; standard stuff that even the dreaded chain Gregg's carries. And I'm sure they have the same distributor. My friend's sandwich was TINY and only tasted decent. Honestly, I think they need to have the executive chef rethink the menu- this was just a disappointment on every level except service. No problem throwing patrons out in 8F weather at the end of the night. There were 6-10 patrons in "lobby" of the bar waiting for rides/Uber's. We told them the ride is here within 5min. They said not our problem "state law" says we have to kick you out now. Some of us left and waited out side while they pushed the people out the door who resisted and wanted to wait. This is my new favorite place to eat, drink, and meet with friends in Providence! G Pub has a clean, subtle decor and is downstairs from the street, so no windows which creates a great place to forget about the time. and just have fun. My friend and I visited early on a Saturday night in July. We sat at the bar and ordered glasses of wine, which we were very happy with. They even have wine on tap. We hadn't planned to stay for dinner, but the menu looked so good and boasted so many homemade specialties, we just had to stay! We started with the fried shrimp, which was excellent! It was served in a tall paper basket with a tasty tarter sauce with nice garnishes of pickled bits. Next I got a hot dog and my friend the pastrami sandwich. We shared an order of the truffle fries, which were out of this world!! I'm a big fan of Spike's hot dogs, but this one was a little different as it's on a brioche type of roll, but equally good! My friend was very happy with the pastrami. It was a hard decision about what to order as everything sounded good from the hamburgers and meatloaf to the fried chicken. For dessert (and we had to get dessert with this menu!) Everything is handmade by their pastry chef. We settled on a s'mores dessert, which was graham cracker ice cream, melted marshmallow, a chocolate cone on the plate and garnished with maraschino cherries...amazing! The bill came to about $70 for the two of us with 2 glasses of wine each. All were very good calamari had a really nice zing and the wings were well coated with For our main dishes we waited quite a while but when they arrived everything was good. This place should have two yelp pages. One for the rooftop deck, and one for the lower pub. They are totally different spaces with different menus. The rooftop is a great spot for an after worK drink or a late night out. On a warm summer night, there isn't another place like this in Providence. But be forewarned, the menu is limited, the drinks are expensive, and the service is slow. Downstairs is a great place for fall and winter. Lower level, no windows, pool tables, huge bar, booths with tvs, nice and cozy. The burgers are great, and so are the veggie burgers. Food is top notch. Way more than i expected. I only considered coming here cause i heard they have a Shuffle Board Table.. I mean who doesn't like Shuffle Board ?!? I guess the place is pretty new and you can tell, everything in this place looks great or maybe the lighting is really freaken good hah. The place is huge lots and lots of space, big seating area filled with tables and chairs idk if you can just sit where you want, i think its a seating type of arrangement. The bar area is a decent size but on a busy night i could see that being a problem to get through. They had a great draft beer selection, lots to chose from and tons more in bottles. Anyone could find something they like. So from what i could see the tables you rent out i believe you cant just go up and put a dollar down to call nexties. it was semi busy so i couldn't really figure out how it works. i heard you rent a room and part of that is you have access to the tables i honestly have no idea. But that tables do look nice (for now). maybe another night ill be able to figure out how the table situation.. Heard of the g pub from my friend Sarah and wanted to check it out. The food is reasonably priced. You can get a sandwich or burger for four to eight dollars. The beer list is pretty big however they do not have a lot of porters which is my favorite. I had a rack of four beers and they all were good. My burger had jalepenos cheese pico di gallo. I also had fries with truffle cream. They were gooey and delicious. They had larger dinner options for 10-16 dollars such as fried chicken and potatoes too. It was kind of dead so I'm not sure why the wait was so long to get our food but it was worth it. I'll be back again. read more

We went here for New Years. It was the first time I had been to the bar. Right off the bat, everyone I could see seemed to be having fun. The bartenders were easily approachable despite it being crowded. The music was good. There was a dance floor. Also, people were renting and playing board games, shuffle board, air hockey, etc. they even have jumbo Jenga!!! We had a great time there. It's a hit and miss place I think with some great things and some cons. First off the hostess was absolutely horrible she just was to busy talking with her friends. Waited to be seated and after 5 mins of standing right in front of her. We just walked in and took a Booth. Now the wait staff there just as bad on this night. We were in a Booth near the pool tables. Again were waiting to order food and drinks and no one comes to take our order. Though they were huddled in the corner all talking. Three walked by our table one said Hi but none stopped to ask if we needed anything. Ended up going to the bar myself and put our order in. Now the good, plenty of TVs and the set up is good. Like how it is open and can move pretty freely. One of the better sports bar if That's what u want to call it. Interesting bathrooms and great selection of drinks. A great atmosphere and modern takes on classic pub grub make G Pub a winner in my book. The place is huge, with plenty of seating along with a couple pool tables in the back of the space. Great beer selection on tap, in bottles and even cans. Our table of 4 shared an order of the Pulled Pork Nachos and they were delish but could of used a bit more of the amazing cheese sauce. The corn dogs made with chorizo were a tasty surprise but were served with about a quarter cup of grease. The Mac & Cheese got rave reviews all around as well. The biggest surprise was the amazing fresh homemade desert courtesy of G Pub's pastry chef. Worth the trip just for the bowl of Bourbon Brown Sugar ice cream at the end of the meal. read more

This is such a great place for a drink, some dinner or just a bit of bar food. Everything is house made and absolutely delicious. Their beer selection is top-notch and always changing. Service was great as well. I've had the Jersey Ripper Dog, a hot dog wrapped in bacon, and the gravy truffle fries. That truffle oil is so delicious that I could have licked the plate when I was done. Cheese-stuffed hamburger with onion relish and house made ketchup was also out of this world. G Pub has a super cool location. The clandestine feeling definitely adds to it's atmosphere. Awesome interior, not too dark for a basement. Only had beer and wine for drinks and they were as expected. We also got the mussels which were not skimpy at all and were mixed with a delicious, creamy sauce. Overall I think G Pubs location is very awesome and is a great addition to Providence. Disappointed on GF options, but to be expected with a casual bar type setting. My favorites were the truffle mussels, salmon, and apple crisp. I loved the salmon even though I wasn't a big fan of it cooked in general. For the apple crisp, my only complaint was it took longer to come out than everyone else's dessert. But then, I think that was because it came fresh out of the oven. I have been working downtown for a while now, the first time I tried to get into GPub they were packed, but this time we picked the perfect hour, we walked right in and got seated. They had an awesome selection of beer onto and bottle. I got one of my favs Wahchusett Blueberry which they serve with a top coating of floating blueberries, it was soon cute and Gave a great aroma in every sip! I had the Eiffel Tower burger, it has a sunny side egg, truffle mayo, sautéed onions, gruyere cheese and double patties (yes ALL their burgers come with double beef). I added some bacon, because everything is better with bacon, and it was amazing. Probably top 3 favorite burgers in downtown. We also had a variety of sides, the mini crock mac'n'cheese, standard fries and the truffle gravy fries as well. Overall the service, the food and beer were all great. Husband and I were in the neighborhood for business and was recommended to give this place a try. Parking was comp valet (nice!) and Host(ess) uber pleasant, the kind of place you feel glad you chose because within 5 seconds you feel 100% welcome. Menu was good, not too extensive but enough details. We ordered a flight of beer, mussels and split the steak with side of mashed potatoes. Be warned- portions are big- don't over order. The server was great, attentive and perhaps more memorable than the ambiance. (A lot of TVS) and that's probably why I didn't give 5 stars- the ambiance is confusing. Is this a sports bar? Gastropub? This place probably has some of the best service I've witnessed in Providence in a while. The server was fun and talkative and attentive. She also was very knowledgeable about the menu and the beer. However, they lose two stars for the quality of the food. I ordered their wings and gravy truffle fries. Both of which was disappointing. Nothing irks me more and soggy wings. I have a phobia that they may not be cooked all the way through. And upon my first bite they were red at the bone. All done! The fries were crispy and kinda greasy. Great modern looking place with a younger attractive crowd. Very long bar with lots of TVs and plenty of tables and booths. 2 shuffleboard tables and 2 pool tables set up in the corner so that youre not getting bumped into while trying to line up a shot. Was a little worried this place was going to be overcrowded, but it was so well spaced out that even during a popular Saturday night UFC fight it was not overwhelming. Atmosphere is really cool, it is set up downstairs with a large bar, many tables, pool tables, and foosball tables. Sat at the bar and the bartenders helped us right away but were not very attentive throughout the stay. There were a lot of people coming up to the bar to get drink orders so it may have just been the amount of staffing on that night. Their craft beer selection is amazing, some on tap but many bottled. We had the food fights wing coupon which brought us there and we were told that the 3 sauces they normally offer was not offered for this promotion. We could only get the peanut butter and jelly wings. Not a big deal but this was the only place that had this stipulation and if we did actually like those wings and wanted to come back, they aren't on the menu so what purpose does this serve? The wings.....wow.....horrible....now the sauce itself was ok, peanut butter was cooked in and the jelly was litely drizzled on top but the wing itself was not good. I think the sauce was ok but I am not sure because the texture of the meat in the wing just tasted awful. So maybe it was the sauce and not the wing? No idea but this is the first time in my life I did not finish my plate of wings. I love wings, have loved most of the restaurants on the food fights list so I am not sure what happened here. So this is their selling feature with the food fights to bring in new business and they missed the mark, I have to assume all of the food isn't great since this was the way to sell it. read more

Came here for lunch recently, and was pleasantly surprised. We started off with chips and beer sauce, and pretzels with some mustardy-buttery dip. Both were delicious, and for roughly 3-4 dollars each, it was a steal. Ive never seen an appetizer downtown for that cheap. I got a pulled pork sandwich with homemade coleslaw. Again, delicious. Sides are a la carte, which Im usually against, but here is different. I get the impression that they are encouraging sharing amongst diners: side items are big enough for two people, and priced well. The service was great, as well. Our server knew the menu well (something a new restaurant generally struggles with). The atmosphere is great, and for me, the most surprising. Being in the basement, I was expecting it to be dark and basement-like. They clearly thought of how to light this place, because even with the absence of windows, it doesn't feel like a basement, and didn't seem dark or small. The bar area is HUGE for downtown, and there are pool tables and shuffleboard. I hope this place is here for the long haul. read more

The food here is always great and well priced. The Eiffel Tower Burger has to be one of the most delicious things on the menu and is only $8 for meaty, cheesy, caramelized, eggy goodness. The fish here is also very good and always well cooked. A must for every occasion is the truffled gravy fries - they're just absolutely amazing. Don't forget to save room for equally delicious desserts! The specialty cocktails are also really yummy. My personal favourite is the Apple Colins, which uses apple flavoured whiskey instead. If it's not too strong, they can strengthen it for no extra charge usually. They also serve a mean long island ice tea. For sports fans, the walls are lined with TVs. Behind the three pool tables are karaoke rooms that are really fun at $25 an hour. The song selection is somewhat limited, but the highlight, however, is the pair of beer taps in each of the three rooms. Living right above it, I love the location. I went to G Pub for a work outing with my husband's colleagues and was blown away at how they were able to transform this space. This used to be the old Providence Gas Company way back when and I really loved how they kept some of the original tile, exposed pipes, etc. I also loved how the space is located underground. It has a gritty, NYC vibe, and the atmosphere is what pulled me in more than the food. That's not to say the food isn't good. I enjoyed what I had (grilled chicken salad, boring, I know) and can I just say the portions are HUGE! Definitely come with a big appetite. My friend ordered a side of fries with her burger and they were enough to feed about 4 people. They also have shuffle board, which is just awesome. It seems like a great spot to spend an evening hanging out playing shuffle board, eating some good food; I plan on being back very soon. I also heard a rumor that they were opening a rooftop terrace in the summer. I hope that is true! Another note, we went on a Thursday after work and the crowd is very interesting. A lot of the financial and banking associates from nearby banks come here to have a drink after work. I didn't mind but I did feel a little out of sorts since everyone was in a suit or business attire and I was wearing jeans and a shirt ( I work in technology).
