Was thinking I'd an omelette off menu was where I'd end up but got there and found out there's a buffet with a an omelette station...was it more expensive? We made a reservation for breakfast. The main entrance was locked. The phone number is actually for the Hilton and sends you to a customer service line outside the country. The Starbucks employee downstairs was nice enough to tell us the only entrance to the vig that was open was through the lobby around the corner. The server was rude as soon as we walked in and I said we had a reservation. I asked for a kids menu for my daughter and was told that the kids menu was for toddlers. The Vig is participating the in the RI Food Fight Wings 2024 competition. We had a coupon and found ourself next door at the Dunk. So... we opted to cash that coupon in! But it's didn't go as planned... First off it snowed that day. The stairs to get into the establishment- not shoveled. Weak! We get inside and present the coupon as it states before ordering. The waitress had no idea what was happening. We placed our order. 10 minutes later she approaches up about our 6 free wings with the coupon and informs us that it is only for one flavor, plum sauce, not listed on the menu. I posed the question what if someone is allergic to plus? Are real plums in the sauce? She called another higher up and told us that we can only get that one flavor as it is in a national competition. It says Rhode Island right in the competition! Plus we did the food fight last year. We went to 27 establishments and only about 2 had ules about what flavor they wanted you to try. When we entered we weren't that thrilled about the offerings and prices so after the run around and our daughters plum allergy at stake, we opted to leave and even left the coupon with no interest in returning again even for our free wings! The ambiance is cute and low key. Semi-like a speakeasy. Wasn't too loud or quiet. It's a hotel lounge and bar area to hangout in. I would recommend it as it was the only motion for us as we got in a little late. They also didn't have their staple New England Calm Chowder and I got the Calm Cakes and Mixed Green Salad. Been a few time and it was okay. This time ended it for us. To start .. we were meeting people that were staying at the hotel and to park in their garage to eat AT THEIR RESTAURANT ... we had to pay $30.. ridiculous. Our server took a while to get to us (not very full at the time) and then took forever to get our drink order. We ordered food at the same time which also took too long to come. However, the real killer was the pour of wine my wife got - it was humorous. Maybe a 3 ounce pour for $15. An unbelievable rip off. We also had to ask for silverware once the food came - non was provided. We then had to go find our server for the check (which was wrong) because after we ordered, we never saw him again. The reason for the extra star is because once the food came it wasnt too bad. The fries are quite good. No way we will ever be back. We will find a new place to frequent. read more

Years ago, I went to The Vig before an event at the Dunk and it was full and lively. Fast forward to July 2022 (before a concert mind you) and the place was maybe 10% full. There were darkened areas of the restaurant that were closed off, and the atmosphere gave off an "old restaurant in a soon to be closed mall" vibe. We weren't in a rush to eat as we had two hours before the concert and I'm glad we had the time as service was SLOW. It took 10+ minutes for someone to come over and take our drink order, and over 45min for our dinner to arrive. My burger could have been decent, but it was cooked well done when I asked for medium rare. The meatball sliders and spinach dip were ok. For beers they had ONE IPA and ONE Double IPA to choose from. They no longer have a website, their last Facebook post was in 2021, and they don't respond to Facebook messages. It appears they're on their last legs so I'd only recommend The Vig if you sit at the bar for a drink. Other than that, go somewhere else. read more

The decor and ambiance are great. A tourist/visitor spot as this is connected to the Hilton. The drinks are the better half of this establishment. The food was a little less than Okay. My waitress said the Mac and cheese is popular but I didn't have that. I ordered the fish and chips (or something). I was excited about the sauce (aioli) but I was left wanting more; more flavor, more freshness, more of something. My friends that didn't order the Mac and cheese didn't like their food. This is the restaurant/ lounge inside the Providence Hilton. It's very comfy and modern, it's inviting to hang out and have a drink. We mostly went down and got a drink before we were going out, I tend to shy away from eating full dinner in hotel restaurants because I think they are more for convenience rather then great food. Even tho here it seemed to be a focus on serving fresh, quality foods. We did get some apps of the Bourbon Bacon Caramel Popcorn ( I know how could this possibly be bad!) and house made potato chips with creamy onion dip...they were both delicious! We ordered the mozzarella sticks. They came out with balsamic vinegar smeared on the plate as if to decorate the plate. The mozzarella sticks were not sticks, they were flat and soggy since they put the mozzarella right on top of the marinara sauce. Then they had a special of meatball sliders. The meatballs definitely came from a bag of frozen food. My husband had a burger with mushrooms and cheddar on it and his rating was mediocre. My BF and I decided to try several things and this is our review... -House Potato chips. Nice, crisp, lightly salted, yummy. -Bacon caramel popcorn Addictive, delicious, great flavor, great fresh taste -RI Fried calamari One of the best I've had in a long time. Crisp, not chewy, not greasy. Light and delicate. Great tartar sauce on the side -Korean BBQ wings. Gooey and sweet, a vinegar note in the sauce.. Meaty and salty -Mac and Cheese Creamy, light and delicious. The bacon bits on top were crisp and flavorful. Very nice dish. -Strawberry Rhubarb Ice Cream Sandwich. Light and delicious. We could taste the freshness of the jam and the great vanilla ice cream flavor. Christina was our excellent server and we got a chance to meet Don, the GM and say hi to Frank, the owner. Best meal I've had in a long time! It's hard to believe I've been living near providence forever and hadn't tried this restaurant until now. It's attached to the Hilton hotel and right near the Dunkin' Donuts center. It has a super trendy entrance with 'the Vig' signs everywhere. It has an upscale sports bar feel inside. My boyfriend and I visited for a date night. Our service was excellent. The waiter asked how we heard about the restaurant and I told him through Instagram and yelp, and a manager came back over with a free bar snack for us to try! It was caramel and bacon popcorn - so delicious. We also ordered a bottle of red which they were out of, so the manager again brought over an even better bottle of wine and honored the cheaper price for us. I ordered the seared salmon which was to die for. The fish was cooked so well and it came served over a bed of peas, tomatoes, shrimp, and a few gnocchi. The gnocchi, even though there were just a few of them, were the star of the dish. They were more like little potato dumplings, so creamy and rich. Located inside the Hilton Providence, The Vig is a gastropub with a heavy sports theme inside a contemporary setting. Before you walk in there is a section that looks like an old locker room with baskets of baseballs and equipment. Inside hanging against a window are some punching bags. There is definitely a theme here. The best two words to describe The Vig are "It's fine.". There is nothing egregiously wrong with this place nor was there anything exceptional with my experience there over the course of a three day stay in the area. During my stay I ate in the restaurant twice for breakfast and took dinner to go twice. Breakfast falls into the typical format. You can either order from a menu or do a buffet. I did the buffet both times. It offered a nice spread including cold cuts, smoked salmon (with capers), fruit and cereal. For hot food there were sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs, french toast, and I believe a pancake station (possibly omelettes, I never used it). There was also a machine to toast bread and bagels. Basically the breakfast buffet had everything you would need for a good, satisfying breakfast. None of the food was particularly outstanding and oddly if you ask for ketchup and Tabasco sauce it comes in small sauce cups instead of the bottles. For dinner I had two different types of wings (on two separate days): their buffalo and Korean wings. Neither was particularly flavorful but I appreciated that they appeared roasted or baked instead of deep fried (though I could be wrong on that, they just didn't have the "crisp" you would expect from fried wings). The sauces were mild to say the least. It was like a nice BBQ sauce you'd get at the supermarket, but nothing remarkable. Their Cesar salad was good and the grilled chicken was moist and cut into nice chunks. Service ranged from excellent to okay depending on when I was there. For some odd reason they did not have a lot of coffee ready to go one morning and I had to wait a while for a refill. On the same day I had to wait for water for a reason I am unclear on (I *think* they were filtering it?). The staff really tries, but there seem to be circumstances that made it hard for them to do their best. If you're in the area this would not be my "go to" place to eat but you can't beat the convenience if you are on a tight schedule and staying at the Hilton. read more

Good bar if you're staying in the hotel and too lazy to explore downtown, but otherwise it's just another bar. I wasn't staying in the hotel but wanted to check it out anyways. Pretty good drinks menu though mostly whiskey/bourbon based or gin based . They do have a full bar. Got the spread which was alright. For food, nothing really stood out from the menu; got the clam chowder which ended up being pretty good. Service was very good. Someone's hotel restaurants can be blah at best but thankfully that wasn't the case with our meal at The Vig. We enjoyed the poutine done well with cheese curds, gravy and hefty sparkling of meat. My husband has a burger and I had a pot roast. Both were delicious. Finally, the wait staff was on top of everything and took Good care of us despite having a large party next to ya who were acting like a bunch of dopes. We stayed at the Hilton this past weekend. We were in town for a dance competition. The girls were tired and so we decided to lay low the first night and have dinner at the hotel. I wasn't sure what to expect but, I will say I'm glad we stopped into the Vig. The server was very attentive and came right over to greet us. The decor is defiantly eye catching. Lots to look at and isn't overwhelming. We ordered the smoked buffalo wings and poutine to start. Both were very good. I had the pub burger with a side salad. Both were also very good. The manager had come by to ask the girls if they wanted a dish of ice cream for dessert. They both politely answered no thank you. However, he came back with two dishes of vanilla ice cream. The Vig makes me feel like I'm an old-timey bookie meeting an important client for the fix on the Schmeling-Louis fight. Service is relaxed, which in other places usually means slow, but at The Vig you expect to sit for a while and enjoy the evening. The lighting is great, shades of dark wood with hints of amber make everyone glow. The old school sports equipment on the walls is also a nice touch, and adds to the vibe of being a more sophisticated place to watch a game than Buffalo Wild Wings. Food is fantastic. The bacon-wrapped dates are positively addictive, and both their spicy fried chicken sandwich and double bacon cheeseburger were significantly crave-worthy. My wife had the bacon Mac n cheese, which had a nice tint of extra sharp white cheddar. The only thing that I would improve about this place would be the beer list. It's not bad per se, but had a very limited variety of craft beers. With the sheer volume and high quality of craft brews now, it seems almost criminal to not have some more obscure stuff on the menu. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my Wash Ashore IPA just the same, which is a high quality offering. Overall, I've been twice and really enjoyed both times. Definitely worth the trip. So...for starters the Providence Hilton hotel is a dump. In town for a baseball tournament and the team got back late. We all descended on the bar as it was close but certain wasn't expecting much. One bartender taking food and drink orders was a disaster as we numbered at least 25 people. Manager was zero help so the poor barkeep and a runner handled the entire group. Ordered wings, fries, a chicken Cesar salad and a grilled chicken sandwich with cheese and mushrooms. Much to my surprise...the food was awesome. Wife loved the salad which had a lot of grilled chicken. My sandwich was moist, loaded with cheeses and mushrooms - all on a toasted brioche bun. Although painfully slow - the atmosphere and food was really, really good. The bar was pretty cool too. The booths are comfortable, the bar is well-deserved, and there's tables in the back that give the place a nice, intimate feel. Even though it's pretty big. The TVs are positioned so that they are a great conversation starter but don't pull focus from your dinner companion or your dinner. Speaking of the food, the food here is good. The bacon caramel popcorn is addictive, as is the potato chips with the onion dip. The pub cheese is hit or miss, but when it's a hit, it's really a hit.
