I have been eating at this establishment for well over 28 years, the ownership in the staff are always tentative to everything that you need, they have a huge variety of draft beers on tap. I chose a 12oz steak, baked potato and steamed asparagus. Although my meat was cooked a bit more than medium, it was melt in your mouth delicious! I never would have guessed the steak would be THAT good from a place that was known back in the day for a 50 cent grilled cheese!! My husband had the fish and chips. Used to go there all the time but the place has gone down hill over time. Menu used to offer daily specials that went away. What did me in was the foot long hair that was buried throughout the hamburger which ruined my appetite. French fries were always served cold. I used to LOVE coming here. It actually looks so nice lately new booths and seems to be getting a whole face lift, but sadly appearance isn't everything. I went the other night and (Shannon) was my bartender. Was told if I go and she is working good luck getting a drink, food or any attention from her hoped it wasn't the case but it was true. We ordered 2 burgers medium well, They were so overcooked and dry they were almost inedible. The buns were cold. There was no condiments on them. It was just the worst burger I've ever had. I ordered a ranchero burger for my son. the only condiment it's supposed to have is barbecue sauce, which was missing from the sandwich.. there are only three toppings, not too complicated, cheese, onion rings, and barbecue sauce. How can you not put the barbecue sauce on it? I ordered a heated loaded Italian grinder for my husband. There were tons of vegetables, but there was no meat. He actually dug down into the bottom of the torpedo roll to see if there was any meat on it. I've been coming here for years and and the food has always been consistent. They have A great bar with a large selection of bars on tap, good drinks, and great food. There are games set up in the of front building for kids and adults and free popcorn. We stopped in last night around 8 pm and was able to sit at the bar for dinner. My burger was cooked exactly how I wanted it...medium and the steak was too. The steak sandwich was tender and was loaded. The burger has been one of my favorites for years and still is. I've been going to Dave's for decades because it never disappoints and the food is always consistent. Basic staple comfort foods done right, super cheap prices that rarely seem to increase, a cozy neighborhood bar feel with tons of TV's and sports memorabilia on the walls that gives the place a warm feel to it. You really can't go wrong here with any of the menu options and the serving sizes are pretty generous. I've eaten my way through almost everything on the menu with few exceptions and I've never had a bad meal. Today's review was inspired by their very tasty and fresh fish and chips, which as a native Rhode Islander, I'm very fussy about. If it's greasy or loaded with soggy batter, it's not for me. Well, I never have to worry about that at Dave's. The batter is never soggy and actually has a nice crunch to it and it's never greasy. It's not frozen either......they only serve fresh caught haddock or cod. Great tasting fish served with their yummy fries. This is a great spot that's busy more than it's not because of their great food and environment. By the way, they have a ton of parking available, so that's never an issue. I ordered the Goin' to Fenway, (Sweet Italian sausage with grilled peppers and onions on a torpedo roll). The sausage was sliced in small pieces so it was so dry and very few peppers and onions. The torpedo roll was also dry. I complained to our waiter and he agreed that the sausage is purchased sliced and frozen so that is why it is so dried out. I complained to the rude owner Dave and suggested that the sausage should be left whole to keep in the juices, he told me that I am entitled to my opinion but don't tell him how to prepare his food. He never apologized and also said that he was going to check with our waiter to see what happened and he was going to call me back but never did. I would never go back there again and would not recommend it to anyone. read more

There was a problem with my order (My friend's was fine but of course she politely waited for my food to come). I had to send mine back twice, to no avail. She then sent the manager over -- I'm guessing he was also the owner because he was rude and condescending, with apparently little regard for customer service or appreciation. He snapped, "So what do you want?" I suggested it would be nice if he took some money off the bill, so he came back saying he reduced it by $3. He then tried to tell us the reduction gets done on the back end in the computer even though it doesn't appear on the bill, so we paid it, but it was still the full amount in the end. It wasn't worth arguing over a measely $3, we just won't come back. What a shame because we used to love coming here for games when the place was thriving. You would think he would practice better customer service to encorage customers to return, especially considering there are plenty of better choices in the area. read more

Solid 3.5 Stars Dave's is by no means gourmet dining or a gastro pub. What they do have is consistently good food at really good prices. I asked for rye bread but it was marble rye, which I was thrilled with, but maybe not all would be. I asked for pickles with the sandwich as well and was given 4 slices. Wow! What a difference a day makes. I met some friends for dinner this week and I saw a sign on the door as I entered saying that gentleman must wear shirts with sleeves. Apparently they are catering to a certain crowd which is a good thing for me. The last time that I came I was subjected to F bombs from the bar as I was sitting with my family. This time we heard none of that. The service was excellent as always. And the food was so good. One friend got the foot long hot dog which comes either in one 6" roll or cut in half and put into 6" rolls. The rolls were grilled and she said it was delicious. Another friend got a grilled chicken sandwich which I thought sounded very healthy until I saw that it had bacon on it and cheese and sauce and came with fries and it may not have been healthy but it looked delicious. I had the absolute best steak sandwich that I have ever had. I couldn't even finish it. It came with cheese and mushrooms and onions and I ordered onion rings with it which were amazing. It really was a meal that I would recommend. And I will certainly be back for more. read more

The food is less than satisfying, the staff has never been friendly and the atmosphere makes me wish I was some place else. Even some of the staff complains about the establishment and the owner. The food is good and portions generous, the service excellent and friendly, the beer selection is large and the atmosphere, well, it's a bar. TVs, high tops, some games, free popcorn! My wife drop by a couple of times a month for food and beer at the bar and we're always well taken care of and leave feeling satisfied and full. Love their fish and chips, as well as clam cakes and chowder (although I wish they carried red chowder as well as white). Oh and they'll do special events, my wife and I had our rehearsal dinner here. Just an informal affair where they closed off the back section and served us various apps, wings, beer and pizza.
