Was next door at the Dunk for a show and felt a bit peckish. I have wanted to stop in here for some time now! I didn't know it was attached to the Hilton but one trip to the restroom will confirm that for you! The place is beautiful! Beautiful and big! We would have liked seats at the bar but it was full! I think that truly would have changed this experience for me! I grabbed a cocktail, wedge salad and split an order of wings! All decent, not the best but decent (especially for a hotel restaurant) The service was a bit underwhelming! A very young staff that would rather hang out and chat than check on their customers! Hotel refused to assist me getting a parking receipt for the garage they have their guests park at and directed me to Laz Parking who does not pickup the phone and voicemail is full. Short hop to entrance of Dunken Donuts center, Took reservation on Open Table. Billed as retro sports bar. Why not. Reservation not available when we arrived but was able to show my Open Table confirmation and they found us the perfect table with the perfect young waiter, Tyler D. Who took great care of us. Menu not exciting, dinner wise, but as a sports bar, the apps, salads and hand helped were great. Wine list adequate and limited choices by the glass but what they had was good at a fair price. Out of current character, the draft choices of hundreds of mongrel beers were not available but there was something for everyone. We all enjoyed our food, wine and beer and the incredible play list from 60s to 80s. I guess that's where " retro "came in. Great place for a beer and bite before or after an event at the Civic Center. Better make a reservation, though. The place is packed at those times. Appeared to be separate, but connected, dining area for the hotels breakfast buffet. Rest rooms were traditional M&F in the hotel lobby. This could be my Big East stop for this season. I enjoyed a late dinner at The Vig while staying at the Hilton Providence. The highlights include prompt, friendly service; no-fuss accommodation of the keto mods I requested; and tasty fresh food. My wife and I split the Atwells Grinder (no bread) and the Wedge Salad (without candied bacon). The kitchen split the orders and presented the"sandwich" elegently. The restaurant has a heavy sports-TV presence, which worked for me but could be distracting for some diners. My family and I really enjoyed it here. They were able to accommodate our 10 person reservation and had it all set the second we got there. The service was great. Our food was wonderful. A few of us ordered the fish and chips, which was a big serving with thick fries. The Short Rib was to die for and some of the best crab cakes I've ever had. We would definitely return here. 4 stars because our drinks definitely could have been better. Definitely a different spin on your average sports bar. Went to grab a quick bite but ended up in the great company of their staff and staying a while longer. I was very satisfied with our experience. Loved the Friar chalk art! GO FRIARS! Apparently one of their own staff members is the artist! I love that they support their staff - really tells us a lot about how management treats their staff. The decor is great. Has a great theme to the place. It was nice to see pictures of controversial sport events (fights on the field and Ali getting KO) along the walls rather than your average "go pats/sox/bruins" banners. The staff was super friendly, our server Scott was great and very knowledgable. We even got a chance to meet Don the GM, and Chef Guy who were great and made my girlfriend and I feel very welcome! The service was fast even with the steady flow of people coming in. Our drinks were perfect- not weak and not too strong. We started with the bacon caramel popcorn and it was so addicting, we needed another round of it. It's light and airy, with the perfect hint of bacon, not too sweet either! We also had the poutine, the gravy was rich and the fries stayed crisp with a generous amount of cheese... yum! I had the seared salmon for my entree and it was DELISH! The fish was noticeably fresh and cooked perfectly. Usually not a fan of gnocchi but they paired well with the fish. WISH WE HAD ROOM FOR DESSERT! ALSO- you can valet or self park. I have never in my life experienced what I experienced at this restaurant. After 90 minutes with 6 hungry kids and no food we approached the manager and were told if we dont like waiting we can leave and that they were doing the best they could with our group of 14, mind you we were the only ones in the restaurant. I then asked for a salad with dressing so my kid could just eat (its 9:45pm at this point) and couldn't even get that. She was screaming at my 60 year old mother and me in front of our kids. All the kids were in tears, my son was afraid the manager "was going to come to our room and get us" thats how mean she was. We now have 6 kids eating pop tarts in their rooms for dinner after playing sports all day because we couldn't even get some lettuce and dressing from the on site restaurant. I will close this review by saying I have worked in the hotel industry my whole life and have a degree in hotel management. I know what this staff deals with on a daily basis and it takes A LOT for me to speak up and write a review. This is in no way shape or form a Karen review. read more

Truly one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. Not only was the food subpar, but it was cold and it took an hour to arrive. We actually had to remind the waitress to bring the food and then when the fries were cold and we asked her for more fries she didn't even clear away the old food. They were out of wings ( how could that be when that is their specialty) and they were even out of their two local beers. When they finally served the replacement beer it was flat. The waitress could not keep the order straight, she was never around whenever anything was needed. I suppose at least she was pleasant. I have to say I'm never a fan of hotel food and restaurants but I was pleasantly surprised when I at here. We stayed here for 3 night for a hockey tournament. I had to eat here twice and both time the food was better than I expected. The burgers I had tasted fresh not frozen. The sides were freshly cooked and again not frozen as you find it at some other hotel restaurants. I had the new England clam chowder it tasted like fresh clams and the soup wasn't too thick. It had real clam pieces in it. Their mac and cheese was really good as well. If you stay at the hotel you should definitely eat here. read more

What an amazing experience we had last night at The Vig thanks to our lovely waitress, Molly, bartender Sara and the Bar Manager, Don. We arrived from New York to spend Thanksgiving with my boyfriend's family in Barrington, RI. and checked in to the Hilton on Atwells Avenue in Providence (a lovely hotel). The Vig is connected to the hotel through the lobby. For Thanksgiving, we had committed to bringing both wine and DINNER ROLLS to the feast but procrastinated and left the rolls to the last minute. Desperate, we realized that there was nothing open past 10:00pm and certainly it would be difficult, if not impossible to find any store open on Thanksgiving morning. After exhausting every possibility, knowing that all stores were now closed and it seemed like the Cumberland Farms or 7 Eleven would be our last resort, the restaurant called our hotel room and alerted us that "they indeed had dinner rolls....and did we want them??" Oh yes! We went downstairs to the now empty restaurant and Don, the manager appeared with a dozen assorted frozen dinner rolls. We tried to pay Don but he insisted we take them gratis. We left a big tip for Molly, ordered another glass of wine from Sarah and promised Don that we would write about this on Yelp and online. My faith in humanity was restored, once again, and I want to thank Don, Molly and Sara and The Vig for helping us in our hour of need. The food was consistently overpriced and underflavored, my girlfriend couldn't see a TV, which is bizarre in a sports bar, the beer list was mediocre and one of the beers I got was clearly the bottom of the keg. I was staying in the hotel this weekend and decided to go to dinner in this restaurant just because it was easy but I was extremely surprised by the quality of the food that I decided to go back my second night there! The first night I had the Duck Confit Grilled Cheese with a side salad and it was to die for. The bread was perfectly crisp and the duck inside was very tender. The second night my party ordered a few appetizers. The crab cakes were a little on the small side but were mostly crab meat. The fish and chips only had two pieces of fish but it was perfectly fried and the fries were delicious. The calamari was okay... I personally don't prefer a cornmeal base on mine. My boyfriend and I went the The Vig on a busy Saturday night while it was snowing heavily outside. Even though the restaurant was slammed, we were seated right away at the bar. The service was outstanding as was the food! I got the seared salmon and my boyfriend ordered the pot roast. The food came out in a timely manner and both dishes were absolutely delicious! My boyfriend is not a huge fan of seafood, but even he enjoyed the salmon! The Vig's mantra is " We're Upping The Game" and our experience was nothing short of that! read more

Stay at the Hilton every year during the golf tournament. Restaurant changed from a steak house to the Vig. Food is American with a flair. Salmon is excellent. Salads are done well. Fish and chips popular. My dig is the bar help. Not really engaging. No smalll talk. You feel like it's them against you. Overwhelmed on an average busy night like a Friday. Sarah in particular can label you as someone she doesn't care for then good luck getting service or even eye contact. It's not going to happen. After asking my co workers it wasn't something I made up. It's just not the friendliest of bars for a traveler that's looking for simple courtesy. So decent food but don't expect quick service or a bar conversation. Apparently that would take effort. read more

I had a huge ceaser salad, pork chop and tiramisu and all tasted great and came out in a timely manner. The bar area was very noisy, but it was near the windows. The dining room looked quieter, but much darker. Typical pub food menu but professionally cooked.
