The menu has a variety of udon (hot, cold, dipping) as well as some soups that can be made vegan on request. My friend ordered the kitsune udon and my partner and I shared the cold kamo seiro. Went here on a Saturday evening around 6pm and there was no line so it was a good thing. People were kept going in and out since they were really fast with service. My husband and I ordered fried baby octopus, fried gyoza, fried chicken curry udon and the pork kimchi udon. The apps were absolutely delicious, I highly recommend the fried baby octopus, it was very fresh, tender and not chewy at all. The udon nooodles was good but the broth was lacking favors hence the 3 stars. The fried curry chicken udon was decent but they should put more broth, it was not enough to cover all the noodles and chicken. The pork kimchi udon, it was very bland and not much flavor for me. They also have very good appetizers - recommend the purple sweet potato fries, takoyaki (for some reason they do it very well), karage. lastly, their curry chicken on rice is also very yummy if you like japanese curry. Location: easily accessible right off the St. Mary's T-stop. If you're local, there are resident-parking spots along the street that are usually vacant. A long ago review mentioned a miso carbonara udon which was what I was really looking for, but it's not on the menu (if it ever was). Still, this udon place is worth a visit if you're craving some udon. The noodle portions here seem quite big and well worth it. 1. The kakiage udon ($15). The broth was very fishy tasting and for some reason I tasted something like a hint of coconut in it. I didn't love it, but didn't hate it either. Still love the atmosphere and large portion sizes, but I removed a star since I ordered the niku udon because of the tripe and was less than satisfied when I found out there were only two bite sized pieces in there. Not sure why there was so little, maybe people in the past haven't liked the tripe, but I feel like it was very underwhelming as a tripe-lover. The udon here is GOOD!! This might be one of the best udon meals I've ever had. This is a super casual place and I really like how they ask you to use their hand sanitizer before sitting down at a table. There are so many hot and cold udon options. It was so hard to choose which one to get. I got the spicy Dan Dan udon and I loved it! The broth was such a good flavor and not too salty. They had some vegetables in it too which they provided just the right amount to eat with the udon. I'd like to try their uni cream udon someday. They said they want good quality uni to be delivered and then they could make it again so in the meantime I can wait til that time comes. On a Friday evening a friend and I decided to get some udon. He mentioned that the establishment closes relatively earlier (he faced a last kitchen call at 730 before), so we met up at 6. The establishment was almost full, but we managed to snag the last table without a wait. I ordered for myself a kitsune udon ($15). Other menu items seemed interesting, but this simple one with fried tofu remains my favorite. The broth seemed a touch smoky, but still seemed light. The portion size also seemed satisfactory. While larger than a comparably priced bowl of ramen, its lighter broth makes it about as filling. My friend and I also shared some fried squid legs / Ika gesso ($8.50). Served with a lemon wedge and kewpie mayo, it possessed a light, airy batter. More importantly, the squid was not overcooked. We also had the chicken matsuaage ($8.50? I think). Unlike chicken karaage aka Japanese fried chicken, chicken matsuaage looks more like fried fish cake, like the sort in Oden soup. Its thinness resembled that of schnitzel, with corresponding juiciness. Overall, I left decently satisfied. Everything seemed well-made, with no conspicuous issues. (There are a decent amount of tables inside, and turnover is relatively quick and efficient.) We ordered the chicken tatsuta-age to start, which was fantastic; the marination adds that extra level of flavour to the juicy chicken that lets it stand out from the more common karaage chicken at other restaurants. Not too much in terms of quantity, but perfect for 2 to share. For our main dishes I ordered the cheese niku curry udon, and my friend had the kamo nanban udon (udon with slices of marinated duck). I was blown away by how delicious it was - I'm usually not a fan of curry flavoured broths, but this soup was amazing. The perfectly-cooked noodles to just the right degree of hardness, the savoury slices of beef and the touch of gooey cheese that ties it all together (even literally...) Portion sizes are also perfect - enough to be full but not uncomfortably so, and with enough space for dessert afterwards :) Their menu is actually quite expansive, and I am getting hungry right now just thinking about what I should order on my next visit - I can't wait! read more

I took a short walk from the Greenline to Fenway before the Red Sox game. The pictures on Yelp definitely helped me make my decision. I ordered the Spicy Dan Dan Udon and the flavors were amazing. The spice level was just right and there was plenty of pork and noodles in the bowl. I usually prefer ramen over Udon Noodle, but they were fresh and had a great texture that balanced off the soup. I enjoyed using the oversized spoon to soak up the delicious broth. The staff were super friendly and very prompt. They make sure everything is clean and to your liking. Futago Udon is an amazing udon place and the best udon I have ever had! I have been here a couple of times and went again today, and every time I have had a great meal. Today, I got the sukiyaki udon which I have had before and was craving for a while. The sukiyaki udon is a typical sukiyaki flavored broth which is a sweet soy sauce broth that has a perfect balance of both sweet and meaty flavors. I love the sukiyaki udon here because it is a HUGE portion. There is an abundance of not only noodles, but also beef, napa cabbage, shiitake mushrooms, and tofu. They give you a perfect balance and it is well worth the $22 because they don't just give you a ton of fillers like tofu and vegetables but a lot of meat and noodles. Their udon noodles are some of the best udon noodles I have ever had because they are not too thick and cooked perfectly. Some udon places make them too thick and mushy but futago's are perfect thickness and chewiness. My friend got the spicy dan dan and also thought it was amazing. I did not get any this time but I have had their appetizers which are delicious. I love their quick service and how clean the restaurant is. I got extra noodles in mine because I was super hungry and greedy but I would NOT do that again -- the portion sizes without the extra noodles are way more than enough! My boyfriend has to help me finish mine. For the price and its quality/quantity, definitely worth it! There are a decent amount of seats inside and the place itself is very clean as well. My mom and I came on a Sunday right at opening (12pm). To my surprise, there were a good amount of people already waiting. The restaurant is pretty small, and they made it very clear that you had to keep your mask on unless you were eating. I'm glad that they're taking things so seriously here. We ordered the sukiyaki udon, curry fried chicken, and takoyaki. The takoyaki was light and crispy on the outside, and very flavorful on the inside. I was surprised to get actual chunks of octopus tentacles where I could clearly see and feel the suction cups. I've definitely never experienced that at other places I've gotten takoyaki at - not sure how I feel about it, but the dish was still delicious. The curry fried chicken was my absolute favorite! I've been here twice now, once for lunch on a Saturday and the most recent time for dinner this past Thursday. Both times the ambience has been great as has the service, no complaints there. My first visit, I ordered the uni cream udon. Unfortunately they were out of udon that day, so I received it without. The tatsuta-age wasn't as crispy as I hoped, but it came out very hot and well seasoned! The Sukiyaki had a great amount of meat, with a fair amount of vegetable and tofu - it was a bit on the saltier side though. Craving some udon soup? You got to try Futago!! Whenever I'm craving a homey broth and especially udon I get the Sukiyaki from Futago. They give you huge portions so you'll definitely be stuffed. The Sukiyaki is my go-to with the fatty beef and sweet broth. If you're not a big fan of your broth being super sweet, then the Sukiyaki might not be for you. I know some of my friends don't like it because of how sweet it is, but for me I honestly love it. Sukiyaki is suppose to be sweet so just keep that in mind! BUT there's so many other savory broths and other udon options as well! Seating is limited so be sure to come early especially during peak times like lunch and dinner. As much as I love this place, the price is expensive around $20 for the Sukiyaki! My only complaint is that the broth was too salty, so I had to drink a lot of water while eating. The portion size is also huge -- I felt like no matter how much I ate, there was still more noodles at the bottom of the never ending bowl of broth. Besides the food, I enjoyed other aspects of the restaurant. The staff was very nice and my order came out extremely fast. The bathroom is also clean, which is a nice plus. The seating inside is a little cramped which made me feel a little uncomfortable -- I think the experience would have been more enjoyable if tables were more spaced out. I got takeout (hence the presentation) but they had packaged the noodles/meat and the broth separately which I really appreciated so the noodles didn't keep cooking while I was picking up my order. Honestly, my favorite restaurant in Boston at the moment! I've frequented Futago Udon many times since my friend introduced me to this place this past summer and it never fails to disappoint! I always order their Chicken Tatsuta-Age every time I am here. It is the best, most flavorful, and most tender fried chicken I have had in Boston so far and the quality has remained consistent throughout each visit. My go to udon order is always their Niku Udon. The braised beef short rib they add to that dish will melt in your mouth! I have also tried their Sukiyaki and Pork Kimchi Udon, all incredibly delicious as well. Although the price per bowl is a bit high, the serving is also bigger which makes me feel more justified in spending more money here . The restaurant interior is super cute with wall paintings covering most of the space. I've always had a great experience with the staff as well! They always offer a hand to help me pack leftovers whenever they see me struggling.
