Massive, unique udon bowls! We got the Takoyaki; Sukiyaki, Spicy Dan Dan, Kamo Nanban, and Kitsune Udons; and Kakiage Don. Takoyaki was pretty standard. All the Udons we got were super filling, some of us had enough leftovers for part of another meal. The Kamo Nanban I got was definitely tasty with tender duck pieces in a citrus-y broth. Just wish it had more ingredients, I ended up having a lot of plain udon noodles to finish at the end. The Kakiage Don was also praised by the member of my party that got it
Came by for dinner the other day and it was a mediocre experience. Futago Udon appears to be a Chinese-owned udon shop as the menu was exclusively in English. Dining was available indoors exclusively and some staff wore disposable masks. There is a communal dining table inside the restaurant for solo diners. Opted for the sukiyaki beef udon and it was ok. The restaurant claims that the udon is homemade...I've had much better versions in Japan. Portions were gigantic, including both the noodles and the beef. The entree came with an egg, some cabbage, along with some mushrooms. The broth itself didn't seem too authentic. It felt Americanized. The restaurant was playing Top 20 hit music, maybe since they're close to BU? ~$30/head after tax and gratuity for dinner.
We parked at the 401 Park Garage and walked here but I believe there is some street parking available. We didn't make a reservation but didn't have to wait for a table (Sunday early evening). Cute decor and pretty quiet indoors. We shared a bowl of the Uni Cream Udon and they gave us two smaller bowls to share. The Udon was cooked well, the broth rich and very good but wish it was just a little hotter. It came out quickly and decent service.
Came here twice in the past few months and waited ~10 minutes each time. Drove both times and was able to find street parking on neighboring streets although I'm sure it's even easier if you just take the T. Staff was friendly and attentive and the restaurant is open and inviting although the space between tables can sometimes be quite tight. I ordered the sukiyaki udon and the agedashi tofu as an appetizer. Both were delicious and the portion is large for the udon. The broth tasted great and they don't skimp on the toppings either. Definitely a hearty meal. My friends have also enjoyed their curry udon and the mille crepe dessert. Would come back again.
This was my first time trying mentaiko udon, so I can't speak to its authenticity, but I can say it was absolutely delicious! The dish had incredible depth of flavor, and I was impressed by the generous portions of both noodles and crab meat. I ordered through DoorDash, so I can only imagine how much better it would be fresh in the restaurant. I'd definitely order it again!
Service and ambiance: eating solo, sat me at the bar, and the food arrived pretty quick. No issues there. Spicy Dan Dan Udon was delicious! Great udon noodles, broth was very flavorful.
This experience blew my mind. It reminded me of the cute ramen spot near my own college campus, just as this one is right by BU. I bet it's a comfort meal for many students. Given that it's a campus spot, it's not that big but not too small either. We were able to be seated despite it being kind of busy. It feels so amazing to enjoy warm noodles as fall becomes winter, especially as a Southerner visiting New England! We shared the agedashi tofu and takoyaki for appetizers. I ordered the cheese curry udon for my main. I also got to taste some of their famous uni cream udon. The flavors of both starters were incredible & I was happy to get more than one piece of each. While the cheese curry was still good, I wish it had more cheesy texture. I should have ordered the uni cream udon because it was unbelievable, but that's okay I'll save it for my next trip...
Futago has a great variety of flavorful bowls of udon that are all fantastic for a cold day! Food: Every udon I've tried has been a blast of flavor. The broth clings perfectly to the udon noodles making the bouncy noodles the star. The creamy uni bowl was my favorite flavor so far but it's almost too rich to finish in one sitting. Service: The wait staff is very friendly and work hard to seat you in a reasonable wait time. Atmosphere: The paints on the wall and the wooden furniture makes for a cozy space, but since the seating space is maxed out it can get a little noisy.
Wow! The perfect chewy noodles house made was coated in the creamy rich sauce that was super well balanced. Every bite was making me want more - some would have bits of crab, others the uni and sometime both! I had such a culinary experience enjoying every spoonful! Come early or be prepared to wait (especially if you're a large party)
This small family-run restaurant near BU housing specializes in homemade udon (good sign that half of the restaurant's diners were returning customers). Started with the shumai dumplings stuffed with shrimp, and then the kamo nanban udon (duck slices on top). Both were very good (vegetarian options also available). The udon entree portion was large enough for me to take some home. Staff worked quickly and efficiently, so that those waiting could get a table (there can be a wait at lunch time). This was a nice, reasonable priced find near BU and near Green Line T stops.
Delicious!! The food was savory and satisfying, but didn't leave me feeling disgusting or too heavy. The items I tried were flavorful. I got the Uni Cream Udon, but without the uni. They ran out of uni, but they said they could substitute it with Snow Crab instead. The restaurant was bright with natural light and clean. All the items were well crafted and aesthetically pleasing. Service was standard and good. The waitress talked a bit fast, but was thorough.
Good food. Good vibes. Friendly staff. Tucked away in a corner of the Fenway area is this nice spot for yummy noodz. Personally loved the uni cream, as it felt pretty refreshing while still maintaining its smooth texture going down - definitely would suggest if you're into seafood, along with their fried oysters! Plenty of street parking, if you know where to find it. Otherwise, it's just a short walk from the green line. Would definitely recommend.
This is my favorite udon place in Boston as they have a good variety of delicious hot and cold dishes on their menu. The first time I went I ordered the uni cream udon and it tasted delicious and decadent. Though it was peak dinner time, the wait wasn't too bad and I think I ended up waiting only 10-15 minutes. The second time I ordered was takeout and I got the sukiyaki udon. I will definitely be coming back in the future when I have another udon craving! read more
Fantastic udon! We got the beef truffle udon and the hot sansai udon and they were both delicious in their own way. The beef truffle udon was savory with the perfect amount of truffle and the sansai udon was light and a tiny bit sweet. The noodles were soft and chewy - perfectly cooked! The space wasn't big and they don't take reservations so I would recommend getting there before peak times to get a table without waiting. read more

Futago is my go-to comfort meal in Boston. I always share the sukiyaki beef udon and curry udon with fried chicken--both are delicious and come with huge portions! read more

Another one of Boston's best restaurants! The Japanese curry here is delicious and feels like a warm hug. read more
Had the sukiyaki udon here and it was great. The portion size was huge and there was a nice mix of beef, mushrooms, and tofu. The broth was flavorful and the perfect thing to drink on a cold windy day. Prices are on the high side but I think the portions and quality more than make it worth it. Service is fast and to the point and the inside of the restaurant is very clean and welcoming. Looking forward to coming back! read more
I came to Futago Udon on a cold, rainy day during my last trip to Boston. It was a Sunday afternoon and it was somewhat crowded inside, my friend and I were seated immediately only because we agreed to sit at the communal table. I ordered the Spicy Dan Dan Noodle that comes with spicy minced pork in a broth flavored with sesame and chili oil. The bowl is huge and comes out steaming hot, freshly made. The broth flavors really soaked into the udon noodles and pork meat. This was one of the best bowls of udon I have had and I would definitely make the trip out here again if I was back in Boston. The staff were friendly, food came out quick and fresh and it was delicious. I would recommend this spot for anyone craving udon :) read more

My cousin from Europe recently came to Boston to visit us. The portions were great and the prices wasn't too much. The udon was also really good and i'd consider it one of the best spots in boston. The service was good and the waiter i had was nice. read more
I love their udon. I've come here multiple times over the past year and though embarrassing to say, I have only tried a small portion of their menu. I usually get the same item each time: the Uni Cream Udon or Cold Mentaiko Udon if the other is sold out. The Chicken tatsuta-age is also good with lemon. It's a small cozy udon place. It can get busy during dinner with the limited amount of seating, but the wait is usually not too long. Most of the time during dinner, I've been seated at the shared table in the back. It's a very large table, so I've never had the issue of not having enough space or other customers getting in my space. Definitely one of the best udon spots in Boston. read more

Fantastic! I ordered the Sukiyaki Niku and it was delicious! The broth was well-balanced, flavorful and it complimented all the ingredients in the bowl. Will definitely return to try their cold udon noodles and the Uni cream udon which was out of stock when I went. It a small restaurant located in the corner of brookline with limited seatings. Bigger parties (3 or more) may have to experience a longer wait time. We waited around 20 minutes for a party of 2 on a Friday night around 7.30pm. The service was friendly and quick, we got our food within 10 minutes of ordering. The interior is simple and its open kitchen where you can see the chef preparing bowl of udon noodles. Highly recommend! Food: 9/10 Service: 8/10 Experience: 8/10 Value: 8/10 read more
I think my delivery experience was better than dining in person. The packaging is top-notch, and they really take care with everything! In-person dining required quite a bit of waiting, both to be seated and for our food. I tried the sukiyaki beef udon, which came with generous portions. It was so filling that I couldn't finish it in one sitting, and unfortunately, udon doesn't reheat well, so it felt wasteful. While the flavors were rich, I found the dish a bit too sweet and salty for my taste. read more
Casual spot. Horrible place to find parking. Tornado shrimp appetizer was good. Uni cream udon was rich and very creamy. After awhile, it became too creamy for me to finish. My husband finished his and mine though! He loved it! read more

Hearty udon and a great hot meal for a cold day. They do have a lunch menu that's slightly cheaper, not sure if they alter the food or portion at all though. Love that they're clean and enforce sanitation before seating. Even as a small gesture, it's a good thought before a meal. Prices did feel a bit high for me as my first real meal in Boston (visiting) and the amount of protein (meat) felt a little small with respect to the price. I am also not an udon expert, but I know there's a big appreciation for the noodles themselves outside of extras like protein, but I do like my share of protein. Thus the rating really does compare my experience and expectations to other states, not just Boston and the local restaurants. Kamo Nanban Udon - seven pieces of delicious duck sit on top, begging to be devoured. Tons of udon await that really fill you up Very light broth, basic soy sauce and dashi, a simple yet elegant taste. Not a lot of vegetables besides the light garnish on top, so wish there was more content overall. Yuzu kosho provided on the side to allow personalization of the spiciness level is a nice touch though. read more
Outstanding restaurant. It's situated in a very nice and accessible location where it would seem like a local ramen shop. The creamy udon noodles was incredible. The only downside is that there are no substitutions at all. I guess this contributes to the speedy service but interesting that there was no subs. I'd go here again though read more

A solid place for Japanese food! Udon noodles are perfectly cooked, and I really liked the batter for the fried chicken. The curry udon was solid but not anything special (what you expect out of Japanese curry flavor). The sukiyaki udon was good (great meat to fat ratio), although I do like my beef marinated a little sweeter. My personal favorite is the shrimp tornado tempura dish and agedashi tofu! I really enjoyed that it was a fusion of shrimp and shredded veggies. The batter and sauce for the agedashi tofu is THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD! Portions are also great. read more

I've been here a few times (and even gotten take out) and this place does not disappoint! When I used to live literally across the street from Futago Udon, it honestly felt like a dream since I could always smell all the tasty food. I love everything I've tried and the homemade udon is sooo high quality. I love the beef truffle udon, sukiyaki udon, chicken curry udon, and the purple sweet potato tempura. When I say everything is amazing, I really do mean it. The broth is so rich and flavorful yet not too heavy. The noodles themselves are thick and the perfect texture. Additionally, the portion sizes are large; usually I *always* had leftovers for another meal (which was such a treat!). The prices are really reasonable considering how much you get. Service is so fast. There's usually a line, but they are super efficient. Sometimes they'll take your order while you're waiting in line and the food gets out about 5-10 minutes after you get seated. The place itself is a bit on the smaller end so it only can seat a few tables at a time, but the wait is so worth it. I truly recommend checking out this place and I am so excited to try everything on their menu :) read more

If you're craving udon in Boston this is the place to go. The quality of udon is extremely high and on par with the udon I've had in Japan. I got the cold mentaiko udon which came with a decent portion of crab. The broth was creamy yet not too filling, allowing for me to finish my bowl without feeling unwell. The service isn't outstanding but they are easy to flag down if you need something additional. They immediately removed empty dishes once someone finished. It did make me feel a bit rushed when they took away the bowls of my dining companions while I was still eating. We went on a rather warm day this week and their AC was not as strong as one would have liked if eating a hot bowl of noodles. There are mainly 2 top tables, with one large communal table and a few 4 tops. Overall, would recommend! read more
Awesome homemade udon. Clean and brightly lit. All patrons are expected to sanitize their hands prior to being seated. We ordered three types of udon (chicken tastsuta-age curry udon, sansai udon, and pork kimchi udon) and one donburi: tatsuta-age donburi. The tatsuta-age is simply delicious!!! Thinly sliced chicken thigh that is marinated and fried. So yummy!! Nice first meal to enjoy our first day in Boston! read more

DELICIOUS UDON! Honestly not much else to say besides to tell you to come try. Their portions are so satisfying and they do not skimp on the meat. My favorites are the sukiyaki or niku udons, both hot or cold depending on the weather! I gave it 4 stars because the restaurant itself is small and is often packed, so there is usually a bit of a wait. However it's worth it! read more
Futago Udon seems to be extremely popular for udon but they unfortunately did not hit the spot for me. I tried the cheese udon and chicken karaage. The chicken was cooked well, however, lacked flavor. Was a bit bland for me and would benefit with a some salt. The cheese curry udon was also quite bland and did not taste very good. The curry tasted like the instant curry packets and udon also tasted like the prepackaged frozen ones that you can buy from the store. They serving size was good for the price, I will have to say. They gave lots of udon and a good amount of beef. If you are looking for a noodle place to get full off of, this is the place for you. Taste-wise, there are wayyy better places that offer udon. Not impressed. I would also like to add that the service was a bit slow when I went and took 20+ minutes to get ahold of a server to get the bill. Certainly will not be coming back in the near future. read more

I got the snow crab and uni udon. Be warned though, this dish is very cream heavy. Pretty alright udon but nothing compares to yume. We came on a Friday night and waited for 30-45 minutes to be seated for a table of five. There are no reservations so it is first come first served. read more
A short walk from Fenway Park, this is a perfect place to get your fill of high quality udon. There are so many flavors and varieties to choose from here, which can be a bit overwhelming at first. I ended up going with the Sukiyaki Udon based off of positive reviews and I'm very glad I did! It has a perfect balance of sweet and salty flavors that compliment each other very well. It is also very filling, to the point where I could only finish about half of my bowl! The service here was very minimal but the wait staff was very polite and offered little pear flavored candies with the receipt. We went during a Sunday afternoon and it was not very crowded, which made for a nice atmosphere. I'll definitely return here, especially during the winter months! read more

We came around 1 on a Saturday, and were seated after ~15 minutes, which is pretty fast considering we were a group of 5. The kimchi pork belly udon was tangy, sour, and spicy, which was exactly what I craved. The serving is BIG, so even though it's a bit pricy, I definitely think it's worth the amount you get. The baby octopus karaage wasn't greasy, and had a nice chew- a delicious appetizer! Service was great, and our server also gave us a water pitcher, which was appreciated. This is a small, unassuming restaurant, and I love how clean and simple the decor is. I will definitely be back! Also this is about a ~5 minute walk from the green line stop at St. Mary's, so also very convenient location. read more

this place was one of my favorite restaurants to eat at while visiting Boston! we came on a friday evening around 6:30 and to my surprise the wait wasn't too long! we had a party of 2 and I think we waited approximately 15 minutes until we were seated. I definitely recommend coming earlier because around 7pm, the line was out the door. we ordered their takoyaki, sweet potato tempura, sukiyaki, and mentaiko cream udon. their takoyaki was delicious. it was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. their sweet potato tempura was absolutely delicious. it was basically sweet potato fries and when you pair it with their sauce it's like perfection. their sukiyaki was recommended by one of our friends and you could not go wrong with ordering it. it's a hot udon with plenty of beef slices and is really flavorful. their mentaiko cream udon is a cold udon with a main topping of crab and it was delicious. I was a little hesitant to try a cold udon but this did not disappoint. their portions are huge and we had enough leftovers for another full meal so I would keep that in mind when ordering. read more
This is my third time going back to Futago Udon and it is still a solid choice for a lunch time meal. Even so, having been a couple times, many of the dishes are very similar with the same broths and couple toppings just rotated around. It's good, but lacking variety if you plan to come back a couple times. Additionally, the $7.50 price tag on 6 tiny shumai is not worth it. read more
We came on a Wednesday at 5pm. Service was good and fast. We got uni Cream Udon, Cheese Niku Curry, Fried oysters and Purple Sweet potatoes tempura. The uni Cream was delicious. You can definitely taste the freshness of the uni and crab. Udon is definitely worth it. Cheese Niku Curry was flavourful and cheesy. The broth was rich. The fried oysters were crispy and delicious. Purple Sweet Potato Tempura was crunchy and sweet. Pretty small place. Overall, a good meal. Pricy but worth it read more
A solid flavorful udon spot! The service was good and the ambiance was nice it was quite busy during dinner time. Overall it tasted good nothing mind blowing but it's a solid choice for udon the price is a little high but the portion is bigger than your normal udon spot. read more
this was such a yummy spot! everything we got was delicious. love love love the sweet potato tempura, practically inhaled it, it came out fresh, battered well, and was so yummy with the spicy mayo (?) dipping sauce. the takoyaki was also really yummy, made to order. we also got the sukiyaki, which had a lot of beef/toppings, the broth is on the sweeter side though. the mentaiko cream udon was nice! it came with a lot of crab meat and the salty mentaiko paired well with the cold creamy broth. the udon itself was nice and a really good amount of chewy. the portions are huge and both ended up bringing half of each bowl home. would probably share next time, since we ordered a few apps. also definitely come earlier, it got sooo busy around 7-8pm read more

Service was quick, ambiance is fast casual, and the food was great! Uni Cream Udon | 6.9/10 Great, but my dad's Sukiyaki Udon had more flavor. This one is kinda like an Alfredo pasta and not as filling as the other. Sukiyaki Udon | 7.8/10 Prime! This may be their most popular one. It has a lot going on and some great strips of meat. read more

Came here on a Saturday evening for dinner and wasn't able to be seated before my entire party was seated, but they seemed really reluctant to let me in when I asked if I could use the bathroom while waiting. There was someone in the woman's stall so I was left standing there outside the door for a few minutes as well and the hostess seemed very impatient with me when I said I couldn't use it due to it being busy. I eventually used the men's room in the end as they seemed very bothered that I was waiting there for so long. We were luckily seated quite quickly once my entire party got there and were serviced fast as well nonetheless. The waitress we got was pretty efficient, not super friendly but more quiet and reserved. Our food and drinks came out quite fast anyway so no complaints here with that - the food was also pretty delicious, but I would say the portion of food I got for the price I paid was probably not worth it. I got the uni though which is overall more expensive so it makes sense. The presentation was very good though as well. I've been here a few years ago and found that experience to be a little better - it seems like things have gotten more expensive and their staff wasn't as off-putting prior. I would say this is a good spot for udon overall, but I'd just be mindful of the staff and price in the future. read more
A bright and clean udon noodle shop, with tons of different options. Who knew there could be so many udon broths, toppings, and flavor profiles? I like getting their ebi kakiage udon, which comes with a classic version of udon noodle soup and three yummy pieces of tempura made of shredded veggies and shrimp, which are delightfully crunchy and flavorful. One of my friends who comes here often likes the spicy Dan Dan udon the best, and my boyfriend's favorite is the sukiyaki udon. A perfect meal to fill you up and warm you up as winter comes! read more

Came here around 1:40 on a random weekday and there was still a line about 30 min to enter. They are very busy with only two ladies bussing the restaurant and taking care of the to-go orders simultaneously. Small shop where we had to sit at a larger shared table but the food was amazing. Nice cozy atmosphere and the udon bowls were very filling. I was considering splitting an appetizer but do not think it is necessary. I enjoyed my ebi kakiage udon although I think the amount of the fried pancakes paired with the noodles was imbalanced. My boyfriend ordered the sukiyaki udon which had tofu and cabbage and meat. Both were very good! read more
When I walked into this place in early September, I thought it had such an adorable interior. I LOVE udon, so I was excited to try this place out. I got the Kamo Nanban Udon (aka duck udon) because it sounded pretty unique, and I like duck generally. The udon came with some kind of spicy relish on the side, which I didn't add because I don't like to eat spicy food. Unfortunately, the broth was bland and the duck was dry. Towards the end of my meal, I did add the spicy relish just to see what it was like. While it helped, it didn't really change my mind about the dish overall. If I'm ever in town again, I would love to give this place another chance. Overall I typically come here because other friends want to have udon and it's in a convenient location, but other than that every time I come here it's nothing to ride home about. Experience 3.5/10 We came here on a busy Saturday night and had to wait about 20 minutes for a table for 2. We felt a bit rushed since it was a busy night and the waiters were LITERALLY running across the restaurant which is a bit unsettling to see when I'm trying to enjoy my meal. I get that it is a busy night, but they nearly ran into many people the entire night because they were running. Food came out in somewhat of a reasonable time, but the restaurant was also a bit loud for my liking since it was so packed. Food 3/10 This spot is always very underwhelming for udon. We ordered the cheese niku curry udon and pork kimchi udon since it looked interesting, but I thought the cheese and curry didn't go very well together. The curry sauce was also more watery than expected. Pork Kimchi Udon was okay, it tasted like something I could easily put together at home. In addition, what gets me every time is the udon texture. I've been to much better udon spots, and the udon here sad to say, it tastes like frozen udon. I look for udon noodles with a certain texture and bounciness, and this spot doesn't make the cut. read more

When will they bring back the Miso Carbonara?
Went there recently and it's still not on the menu. They've probably taken it down for the time being and I haven't heard anything yet about them bringing this dish back.
I have never experieced a Japanese restaurant or steak house. Any suggestions?
This place is mostly noodle soups, I would recommend just going for the signature dishes as that would be a safe bet. We tried two of them (sukiyaki and beef truffle), both were delicious.
Any suggestions of the best dish I should try?
The duck udon was so smokey good! Miso carbonara was tasty as well and not as heavy as it looks.
