STEPH JUDGEMENT: Friendly service and good food, but the ambience was a little rough. We were looking for a place to have dinner with friends and were excited to see a Korean restaurant. The menu also seemed like it would have a nice variety for everyone. When we walked up to the restaurant, however, we weren't sure if it was open at first. The entryway looked dark and there were all these construction materials around. We saw some lights within and there was an OPEN sign so we decided to go in to make sure. Turned out they were undergoing renovations, so things were unfortunately in a bit of disarray, but the main dining area was fine. The hubby had the vegetarian bibimbap and I had the jjampong (spicy seafood noodle soup). I liked my dish fine, but the hubby said his wasn't quite as flavorful as what he was used to. Their banchan selection was just ok--serviceable. Granted, we're from LA, so it's a pretty high bar; I'm willing to cut them some slack. Our friends shared a spicy pork bulgogi plate, which they liked. The portions were good, the prices reasonable, and the service was friendly and efficient. If you're craving Korean eats, this is a pretty good spot. Hopefully their renovations are done by the time you read this. read more

This is the best-value sit-down restaurant in Beacon Hill for great food with solid portions. I was devastated to hear that they recently stopped offering their sushi options, so it can no longer be a one-stop place for both sushi and Korean dishes. They still do their Korean dishes well though, with delicious flavors and filling portion sizes. Their service is quick and friendly, with our orders being taken and coming out quickly and our waters being refilled regularly. I had their Bibimbap in a regular bowl on my latest visit and it was full of fresh and tasty ingredients. If only they brought back their sushi options! read more

Nice and spacious restaurant across MGH. This place is loud. Not really a place to catch up or have long convo. You really need to know what to order here. When asked for recommendation, server frowned at us. I visited here with a colleague after long shift. I think there is an event/b'day party held when we visited. They have wide selection of traditional Korean food here. We ordered their noodles+BBQ combo. I chose Japchae and LA kalbi while my colleague chose Nangmyeon (cold noodle) and bulgogi, we also ordered ther tteokboki. Japchae Noodles are awesome and full of flavor while their Nangmyeon is comforting and full of chilled veggies. Their kalbi is a must!! Lastly their tteokboki came with noodles too. First off... TAKE. A. JACKET. I'm convinced this place is secretly storing polar bears in the back because it is freezing inside. If you enjoy dining in arctic conditions, you'll love the ambiance. We ordered the beef bulgogi and the spicy pork--both were solid and flavorful. The rice was... fine. Nothing to write home about. We also got miso soup, which warmed us up for about 45 seconds before the restaurant temperature brought us back to Antarctica. The service, though? Yikes. The servers were not attentive at all. We sat there waiting forever just to get water, and asking for more kimchi felt like we were requesting a loan approval. Not exactly the vibe. Overall: Food was good, but between the cold front and the inattentive service, I wouldn't recommend. Bring a jacket if you go--or better yet, maybe just don't. read more

I had a very good experience with this restaurant late on a Sunday night. There was plenty of seating and the wait staff was very friendly and attentive. Food portions were large and came with a variety of small pickles/kimchi on the side. I ordered the japchae (spicy) and my dinner companion ordered the japchae (mild). I was craving some Asian food around the area, and this was the only one around. They have a great selection of Korean foods, and sushi. They also have some combo options for indecisive people like myself :) My boyfriend and I got the Soup and BBQ Combo: yukgejang and LA kalbi for $27. The portion size for yukgejang was large and sharable, and filled with brisket and noodles. It was perfect for the rainy day. We came in on a Friday evening for dinner, and the restaurant quickly filled up. I thought the service was good, as they were quick to take our order, but we weren't ready. It wasn't difficult to just make eye contact with the server for her to come back. I stopped here on a Friday afternoon with a large group of 11 and we were able to be seated right away without a reservation. They have a much larger space that is a couple steps down from the initial dining space when you walk in. There were a few patrons dining but it was pretty quiet. I tried the following: seafood pancake, shrimp shumai, chicken gyoza, and the hot stone bibimbap with beef. The seafood pancake was okay, a bit bland and I wish it was crispier. Would definitely skip the shrimp shumai. Very small portion and just reminds me of frozen store bought shumai. Chicken gyoza was overfried and the filling wasn't good. The saving grace was the bibimbap bowl. Beef was sliced beef instead of shredded and it was tender. Came with lots of fresh veggies and the gochujang sauce paired well with it. Only thing is that it's saltier than expected and I needed to drink a lot of water afterwards. Great portion sizes and affordable. Service is non existent, don't expect anyone checking in, just wave down staff if you need anything. Would return in the future if craving Korean food in the area but there are so many better places for Korean food in Boston. read more

I didn't expect to see a korean restaurant in Beacon Hill, and we came here on a Saturday evening and were seated right away. The waiters were very friendly and attentive, and service overall was great. The portions were pretty big and pretty affordable, and tasted delicious too! The scallion pancake was crispy and chewy, the jjampong was spicy with a deep flavor, and the side dishes were also light and nicely complemented our food. My friends also enjoyed their food, and we loved that the restaurant wasn't super packed. It was pretty clean and cozy, like a typical Korean restaurant you might see in Allston. The moment we arrived in Boston, I immediately had a Korean food craving. Jumped on Yelp and found Seoul. The Korean appetizers were delicious and we decided to try the scallion seafood pancake. I love that the pancake is served in a hot pan, so it stays warm and continues to get crunchy on the bottom instead of sogging up. We also shared a salmon avocado roll since the menu also includes sushi....very good. We originally wanted unfiltered sake but were convinced to try Korean unfiltered rice wine (Makgeolli). This was served in a big bowl with a ladle and two sipping bowls. It was a very generous portion of rice wine and I absolutely loved it. It covers so many different flavor profiles...slightly sweet, a little sour, pungent, creamy and slightly fizzy. The alcohol content is much lower than sake, so we were able to finish it and not fall on our faces. I wanted to order bibimbap, but I was getting too full. We decided to share the Hoe-deopbap: raw fish bibimbap with steamed rice mixed with cubed raw fish and veggies. That's all we could fit in our stretched-out gullets. Our server was interesting...hot and cold. She really seemed to like us one minute and the next moment could care less. A little odd but whatever. I'd definitely eat at Seoul again. read more

On a rainy Sunday evening, I stopped by Seoul for a slightly earlier dinner. At 5:30, the establishment seemed half-full, so I received prompt seating. After quick deliberation, I opted for the #74, Sofu Tofu+ BBQ Combo ($24.95). From the various customization options, I selected the spicy seafood tofu stew with beef bulgogi. Despite looking half-full, wait-staff seemed taxed to capacity, resulting in slow service. I could only flag down my waitress on her 3rd pass from my table after I had decided on my order. The banchan arrived about 10 minutes after I had placed my order. The arrangement itself seemed conservative, with only 3 side dishes. The first, bean sprouts, tasted appropriate with sesame oil and salt. It tasted slightly chilled, a step up from some establishments that serve straight from the refrigerator. The second, zucchini, also seemed seasoned with sesame oil and salt. Additionally, it seemed seasoned with garlic and also arrived warm, a welcome detail. The third and final, the cabbage kimchi, carried neither umami nor garnish. Garlic and savory notes should be front and center, but all I tasted was pickling sour. I rated the bean sprouts 4*, zucchini 4*, and the cabbage kimchi 3*, for an blended score of 4*, but dropped down to 3* for the conservative item count. The entrees took much longer to arrive, a full 35 minutes after sit-down (25 minutes after banchan). Notably, neither the soft tofu stew nor the bulgogi seemed as hot as they should have been. Both are served in stoneware, the stew in a stone bowl and the bulgogi on a stone plate; both retain heat quite well. However, the stew was no longer on a boil, and the bulgogi was already lukewarm. What's the point if the two don't arrive just off boil or sizzling? That defeats the raison d'etre of the serving equipment. Nonetheless, the spicy seafood soft tofu stew seemed to possess a rich, flavorful broth. While I question the designation of "spicy", I managed to enjoy this. Ordinarily, this merits a 4*, but the above note about serving temperature relegates this to 3*. The second part of the combo, the beef bulgogi, disappointed. Not only did it arrive without the hot stone plate sizzling, it arrived lukewarm. The beef was tough, overcooked, and sliced far too large. It reminded me of the budget beef one would buy for home hot-pot with 0 marbling, only to find out that it was actually jaw exercise equipment in disguise. This merits a 1*. To recap, I gave the banchan in aggregate a 3*, the tofu stew a 3*, and the beef bulgogi a 1*. That averages to a 2* review. I would go back for the tofu stew IF it arrived off boil, I could tolerate the banchan, and I would absolutely never order the beef bulgogi. read more

Everything that I've ordered here has been delicious, the prices are amazing for Boston ($12-15 for a dinner on a weekday!), the side dishes are tasty, and their spice levels are truly spicy (we ordered the extra spicy and I was happy that they delivered). Pretty decent option for Korean food in the area! Their lunch special is great: you can get a combo of 2 choices (options range from sushi to bulgogi) and it comes with miso soup, salad, and rice for $11.50. I tried their soft tofu soup with beef ($11 for lunch, $12 for dinner). The garlic and anchovy flavors were very strong, but they did not give a lot of beef. The soup came with a large serving of rice. I forgot to ask for a spicy soup (not sure if they allow adjustments since it didn't say so on the menu) so I found the soup to be pretty mild despite its red color. The egg inside got a bit scrambled on the bottom of the pot. The servers here are very patient and friendly and they have many COVID precautions (checking temperature, lots of hand sanitizer, disposable utensils, dividers between tables). I wasn't super blown away by the soft tofu stew, but maybe my opinion will change once I try more of their menu. read more

Ordered an Uber Eats delivery from this place. The Korean Wings were extremely tasty with the chili glaze sauce and the shrimp Shumai was excellent too. I don't know if it's because it's a Monday and we got weekend leftover ingredients or whatever But The Sushi Sucked. It absolutely sucked. The cream cheese in one of the rolls were tasteless runny and loose. The Salmon tasted like pre frozen grocery store fish. The Wasabi was closer to grey colored than green and had no kick to it and every single roll of sushi between our party was falling apart. And the service forgot to include any utensils to handle the sushi with.... including Chopsticks! If I'm dropping over $15 dollars for a few pieces of sushi I'm expecting some of those cheap wooden disposable chopsticks to be included. It seems like this place is severely understaffed but the food is so good if you have the time to sit down and don't mind the wait for food and service. I feel bad since it seemed like our waitress was the only one for the entire restaurant and was running around to manage tables. The food was so good though and affordable. The seafood scallions pancake was thin, crispy, and flavorful. I got the mild beef tofu soup and it was pretty good and hit the spot. It has a different flavor if you get it spicy, which my friends got, but I thought it was so delicious by itself. I would say it's equally as good as if you were to get it spicy. It was a nice umami flavor and it pairs so well with the rice. Overall this place was great! It seemed like a lot of people go in for sushi too which looked great. The service was great despite them being noticeably understaffed, so this doesn't seem to be a good place to go if you're pressed for time. I would come back again! read more

I've ordered takeout from this place before and it's been OK - not the worst but definitely not the best either. I ordered the soondubu combo which said it came with rice, side dishes, and choice of soft drink. When it came, there were no side dishes, which was extremely disappointing because that was half the reason I ordered it. This also may just be my fault, but I ordered mild and the soup came a pale brown color rather than a less spicy red version that I was expecting. I've definitely ordered mild soondubu in the past at other places and gotten a more traditional "mild" red one rather than just a no spice one at all - or it has been made clear what is what with chilli pepper emojis or something. If it had been a white soup, I would have not ordered that option at all. Overall, nothing went right about the ordered besides the fact that the rice and soda came, and if you're going to come back after a long day at work and spend $22 dollars (might not seem like much but heat in the winter is crazy these days) on a meal, I would at least want something I am expecting. read more

I'm giving this place four stars because their banchan was quite lacking tbh, they served us a pack of seaweed randomly and some kimchi with picked cucumbers. There was also only one server and she was definitely overworked. However!!! She had a smile on the whole time and was so sweet with everyone that we couldn't stay upset even though the food took a long time to come. We were all so impressed with how cheerful she was despite managing so many tables on her own. The food was also VERY delicious. I was quite impressed.
