We started with the mixed ceviche which was light and yummy. They added a small slice of hot pepper that was crazy spicy. Loved it. We enjoyed the Lomo Saltado that was fresh and cooked perfectly. Maybe a few too many onions but the meat was done perfectly. Oh yeah, and the potatoes included were really delicious. Finally had a chance for a second visit. I got the Lomo Saltado (again): did NOT disappoint! I also got a new shrimp appetizer that was on the menu (new from my previous visit). Also excellent. My GF got the Fresh Tagliatelle al Pesto and Churrasco and its (her words), "my new go-to". Fan for life! She shared some with me and the hand-made Tagliatelle was fantastic, it had the perfect amount of pesto, and the Churrasco was cooked to a perfect medium. Many thanks again to Angie and her team! Such an amazing find! Food and flavor was great. Service was amazing. Spot looks like a cute cart and also has some outdoor seating. Stopped by on a Friday night at about 10:15 and they close at 11. Usually hate being the last people in a restaurant, but the servers were accommodating and welcoming. Asked about close time and told us not to worry and enjoy our meal. Their response didn't seem like they were just being kind or understanding, but genuinely asking us to stay. Had the chicharrón as a starter...so much flavor and so good! Crispy yet juicy. Actually my review for all of their meat dishes. Did take like elevated Peruvian food which is by far my favorite cuisine. I generally don't like sweet potatoes but the chips were amazing. The first time I went to this restaurant in May I ordered the Tagliatelle Al Pesto with Churrasco. It was amazing. The flavors of the pasta was delicious &, the steak was cooked perfectly. I recommended this to several people. Last night I was going to see a concert and took our cousins out to eat there. Again, the food was delicious, but my steak was half the size of what it was the first time I went, and also in the picture that they show on their menu. I asked the waiter if that was all the meat that I was getting and he said yes! We were very disappointed. Secondly, when the check came, they added on 20% tip to the total. I'm fine with that, but when the final bill came for me to sign, it asked me for another tip and it showed me the different choices I had to I had for a percentage of tip to leave. Because of this, I will never return. Thought the rice was a bit salty for my taste but each dish came out super aesthetic. As others have reviewed prior, the ceviche was a highlight and would definitely return for it. I have to say that the services was great but somehow my food (pasta) was served cold. The food also took a while to arrive to the table. Other than that, my only other critic will be for more decoration to the space. The place is very tight, but I know they can get more use of the space if they re-arrange some things around (this is coming from someone with interior renovation background). Cute little place nestled in the heart of Montclair. Our server was extremely polite and was quick to recommend some of his personal favorites. For appetizers we went with the Duo Criollo and the classic ceviche and the Chicha morada ceviche. My favorite was definitely the Chicha morada as it was not a typical ceviche and was quite sweet. Worth a try! The fresh maracuya juice was extremely refreshing too. They don't serve alcohol here but there's a liquor store nearby, so my friends bought a Pisco bottle and the restaurant was able to make pisco sour cocktails with it! For the mains we ordered Lomo Saltado, the churrasco, and the Pescado a lo Macho. The Lomo was a classic Lomo, tasty... but felt like it was missing a kick as I couldn't really taste the aji in it. They were all out of the churrasco and so they recommended the flank steak instead. My friend ordered it medium rare and mentioned it was cooked perfectly and was extremely juicy. The fried fish was tasty as well and came with a spicy sauce that really shined through. Presentation was impeccable in all the dishes and apps. As for dessert we ordered the rice pudding and the chica morada cheesecake. Both were amazing choices and were unconventional which made they even more special. And the restaurant is just as refreshing in the vibe of their decor and super friendly service. The homemade sweet drink made from purple corn was a blast of flavor that makes it a MUST! So I don't often give out 10's that easy, but I visited this place last night, and it was a 10 all around. The ambiance is a cute, small joint, with somewhat of intimate vibe and atmosphere. For Apps, we had one of the Ceviche's, recommended by our server Angie, and it was a 10. It's not a place for huge portions, more of a modern theme bursting with flavor. For dinner, my date had the frice rice with chicken, and I had the stake with Patatos and vegetables. 10/10 The rice was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The stake was very tender, they make it medium, and the tamatos in the dish tasted so fresh. For desert, see pics, the Keylime pie, and creme brulee, both made in house and was a 10/10. The keylime pie, especially with so light, and not super sweet. Will definitely visit again, as we learned the chef went to culinary school in Italy and makes fresh pasta, so we will have to try it. read more

Their chef is Peruvian but lived in Italy and you see the fushion of that experience in the food. Everything is so tasty and the menu is so creative. Came in on a Friday night for dinner with friends. Parking can be tricky but that's all of Montclair. There's a parking lot next door at the mechanic who charges $10 to park there, limited spots in the parking garage across the street, as well as street parking. I was sad to see the restaurant wasn't packed on a Friday night so I'm hoping they get more business so they can last! On to the food.. so I will say I'm part Peruvian so I'm used to eating true Peruvian food from mom and pop type restaurants. However for a "fusion" Peruvian restaurant, this place was pretty darn good. My husband and I chose to order the discover the flavors of Peru, which I highly recommend if you're not sure what to order and what to try a lot. We also added an order of papa y yuca rellena. The papa y yuca rellena was very tasty although I wished it had a lot more huanciana sauce which is a cheese sauce they make. The causa w avocado I found to be too salty although my husband really enjoyed it. Classic ceviche was nice and fresh. I really enjoyed the lomo salteado was so good. The meat was tender and it had great flavor. For dessert we had rice pudding which was delicious! Super creamy w the right amount of cinnamon. The hit of the evening was the aji de gallina croquettes. We also ordered lomo saltado, linguini a la huancaina with lomo, arroz chaufa mixto, and pesto pasta with churrasco. Let me start with the good - the appetizers were good, and the mains were OK. However, the service left a lot to be desired. Despite having multiple folks working, simple things like water was not received on time, even with requests to multiple people. Our meals were staggered and all came at different times, which takes away the ability to eat as a family. The appetizers came without any of the sauces, and we had to chase repeatedly. It is a rare occurrence for me to be blown away by something. While I gave it four stars, there is a reason but I was blown away by one dish in particular. First we started with a few appetizers. We had the duo Inca, calamar frito, and the octopus. The calamari was slight salty but cook mostly well. 7/10. The duo Inca had a ton of chicken but needed something to moisten it up a bit. 7/10. The octopus was slightly overcooked but I'll try this again as octopus is hard to get right in general. 7/10 In addition, the mashed yuca that the octopus is served over was something special. 10/10 We almost never try to save something to have the next day. It's normally from being full. We had to stop eating this and the main course just so we could have it again. Next was the main course that we shared. We got the pescado a lo macho, which is without a doubt my top three meals I've ever had in my life. 11/10 This was amazing. The sauce was great, the fish was cooked to perfection, and the seafood above, once again, cooked to perfection. This is the main reason I will be back. It was phenomenal. We had to hold ourselves from eating all of it so we could take some home but also so we had room for dessert. Finally was the dessert. We got the chicha morado cheesecake. My wife liked it more than myself but she was in heaven. Based on her the rating goes up slightly. 8/10 The main reasons for the 1 star drop was the points mentioned above. Additional, when paying they ask for a review in G***le. I don't use that site for reviews and I don't want to be asked. I was going to write on here the moment I ate that fish. Wonderful experience. Set in an old-school railcar diner, Fusionista was quite nice departure from fancier establishments. But the quality of the food was not compromised. The ceviche mixto was a hit with our dining group with quite traditionally generous portions. Really hit the spot on a warm day outside. The aji de la galina croquettes were very tasty and fantastic for sharing. Ironically, the lomo saltado was the one dish that least stood out but was still quite tasty.
