I've come here twice now with my husband and our kiddo. While they seem to really really enjoy a wider range of the food here, I only found myself enjoying one or two things the first time and three or four things offered on this most recent visit. This last time I did like the fried shrimp and had some good fresh cooked rice with it. I also had two teeny tiny bundlet looking cakes for dessert. I also had an affogato with the coffee and the ice cream they have there. They somehow seem to keep things incredibly clean which is very reassuring and despite all the lighting it doesn't ever seem to feel too hot. The staff is probably the best and my favorite part of coming here. They are fantastic at clearing the dishes whenever it's needed and they smile and seat you but don't ever seem to be over the top either. I'm not trying to be harsh with my rating. I haven't gotten sick from the food or anything. It's my own personal opinion and they don't have half scores. Otherwise, I would go with 3.5 stars. read more

My Yelp buddy Harvey K. decided to check out the newly opened Fusion Buffet in Concord CA. It's located in the Sun Valley mall on the outside and takes the space vacated by Lucille's BBQ. We went for lunch and at 11:30 it was very busy already. It's an Asian buffet with lots of Chinese dishes. The sushi items were basic and limited. They do have a noodle station but that's only for dinner. The Mongolian BBQ station is open and is popular. Soft drinks are included. Besides the dessert soup the only hot and sour soup is available. We came here for Saturday lunch at 1:15 and we're seated for a party of 9 right away. The place feels like Vegas in the Bay Area. All areas are clean and the food selection was perfect for our family age ranges from teenagers to senior citizens. The sushi rolls were fine for buffet. Cannot complain for a basic California roll or nigiri. But I enjoyed the scallop vermicelli and the beef rib and the steamed oysters the most. I got my fill of Chinese food, hot and sour soup and dessert and coffee too. What we liked about the soup station is that they had taro sago! Visited Fusion Buffet on a Saturday dinner. My group of 8 people waited around 1 hour. Arrived at 5:35 pm and seated around 6:30 pm. The foods were good for the most part. I really like to enjoy seafoods when it comes to buffet. Their salt and pepper blue crab was great. Towards the end of the day ( around 8pm) their cajun seafood was no different than boiled seafood. The taste was weir. I believe they don't really cook or season the seafood toward the end of the day. The chocolate tower was busy with kids. I felt like people just let their kids go freely to get foods and drinks even they're not tall enough or careful enough to get foods by themselves. Beautiful inside and very modern. Very clean. The staff here is amazing. All them were so nice and service was always quick. Food was delicious. Love their selection of ice cream. Their coffee here was fantastic. I am a coffee connoisseur so I know really good coffee. They also offer premium teas. Lunch was only $20.99 and dinner was 29.99 and price included drinks already. I'm not a huge buffet person, because I don't eat too much, but I'd go to Fusion Buffet again. Only during dinner hours because of the seafood options they have! They have a Mongolian BBQ section, chocolate fountain, tea bag options, self service ice cream (as in you scoop it out yourself), sushi bar, and the usual eats you'd expect at a buffet. For their seafood, expect jumbo prawns, oysters, crawfish, baked mussels. The oysters were a popular item so expect to wait a bit or hopefully you'll get lucky and see it as you get your food. Ambiance is what you'd expect at a buffet. Busy, kind of loud. Service was pretty good. The staff were quick with clearing out dirty plates and cleaning tables. For the price, it is a solid buffet but don't expect lobster or roast beef here. I came here during a weekday and it wasn't busy at all. Everyone here looked like retired or Asian because we all love a good deal, I guess! Joke aside, the lunch menu was satisfactory but it definitely has a ton of chicken and some fish. There was barely any beef dish. So if you are looking for steak, beef, or roast beef, you are out of luck. There is some maki rolls but no sashimi either. I have been to the fusion buffet maybe 5-10x since they have opened... and they have YET to disappoint! The waiting time will say 30-50 minutes, but never have I waited that long with parties of 2,5 & 15. This place is AWESOME! The food quality is tasty, doesn't have that old stale sadness, and has many great options! They offer Chinese, seafood, Hibachi and Sushi! The service is quick and easily one of the best! I took my parents here because they wanted to try this new buffet in town. My dad normally goes to China Wall, but he was curious about Fusion Buffet. The wait was horrendously long. It was packed, so understandable though. Granted going on Mother's Day Weekend did not help. However, checking in was easy since they use Yelp and it was tied to my account. After about 45 min, we sat down. Typical of a buffet, you have your normal Chinese food such as fried rice, general tso chicken, honey walnut prawns, etc. Those items were not bad and I enjoyed them. As for the other selections, the Mongolian BBQ could use a bit more sauce in the mix. I asked for a little spicy and all I tasted was spicy. Maybe some sort of teriyaki sauce to make it sweet and salty would suffice. Or even just more of it. The sushi selection is a little limited, but I only ate the tuna and salmon selections. They were just alright. The soups were also just okay. I love the hot and sour soup, but the clam chowder I will forever pass. The dessert station was nice. Hand scooped ice cream was cool, but we didn't have much toppings to go with such as chocolate syrup or sprinkles. And the chocolate fountain is a neat idea, so I liked that. Found this place listed on Yelp yesterday and got to try it today for Mother's Day celebration. The place isn't bad. It's on par with Tomi to some end. I wish they had more sashimi but the sushi selection was decent. They also have steamed oysters/clams/baked mussels. Their seafood selection is more unique too with scallops with vermicelli noodles. Dessert wise, there's a chocolate fountain which is awesome. That was probably the most unique thing there. They also have self serve ice cream and a whole variety of self serve drinks since it's included in the cost. $29.99/person for weekend with seniors getting 10% off. The service was also pretty quick as far as picking up plates. They were quite on top of it. So would I come back? Definitely given it's a nicer one in the Concord region. Kids are priced based on height. If you're able to, I would try to make a reservation because the wait times can be crowded on the weekends. With so many Asian buffets opening and closing at Sun Valley Mall I was surprised to see another addition. To be honest, I was surprised with the quality and variety for the money spent. The prices are very decent for lunch on a weekday. I believe it was around $20 per person AYCE with drinks included. Luckily on a random Wednesday you don't have to wait for a table for 2. The selection is similar to most Asian buffets. There's the Japanese section of different variations of California rolls. There's a salad bar and fruit bar that is usually left untouched. There's a lonely pizza next to trays of chicken nuggets and fries for the kids in the corner. Then the majority of the buffet is some variations of American Chinese dishes. That's usually the chow mein, fried rice, sweet & sours and plenty of stir fries. The sushi wasn't my favorite but it was decent. The highlight for me was the chow mein, general tso's chicken and surprisingly the fried chicken. Afterwards the ice cream did not disappoint either. The place was pretty full for lunch on a Wednesday. I imagine the restaurant is much busier on the weekends so maybe prepare to wait a bit. We went for lunch for the 3rd time this Saturday. We were impressed by the bill of fare, and we were able to sample a variety of foods that included seafood, sushi, Yakatori, Teppanyaki fresh fruit and dessert. It was extremely crowded and we even and stood outside before it opened. The staff was pleasant; however, the patrons were illmannered & they violated social mores due to being culturally uninitiated. I would have like to have seen disposable gloves to use for the tongs because too many people touch those tongs. A vast majority of people behaved as though they were starving to death, routinely cutting in line and jostling into me; this was the norm for nearly everyone I passed. I could not locate one of the persons that would bus tables when we left, so I left the gratuity with what appeared to be a hostess. Whom do we tip? The hostess, the lady that busses tables or the teppanyaki man? Certainly not all. Even though it is a buffet, and we could see that a large % of the customers do not tip, we always tip but this makes it a little confusing. I wish it were like some of the restaurants like in Japan where there are booths, and the booths have doors that you close so you do not have to look at or hear other customers. I visited during soft opening this weekend, so dinner was $25 instead of $29.99 per adult. This place exceeded my expectations. The food's not quite as great as Tomi, but it's most definitely better than all the current Chinese buffets in this area. Service was also pleasantly nice. Fusion Buffet has finally arrived, and opened up at the front of Sun Valley Mall, where Fresh Choice followed by Lucille's used to be located. Sitting across from BJ's, and on the side of the mall near the Safeway side of things, you will find this new buffet. They just opened yesterday I believe for the start of their soft opening, so take this review with a grain of salt as they may still be figuring certain things out. The place has been slightly remodeled inside, and feels a bit more open and spacious compared to Lucille's, but still roughly similar decor, with of course the exception of the buffet food area. Fusion Buffet is a pay first at counter before you sit down, so just be aware of that before you sit down. The food offered here is a combination of various Asian foods. The service here was decent as far as the cleaning away of plates and such, so that is one thing that was good. The who I assumed was the manager in the front was just so-so, and didn't really seem all that friendly when we came in, and the person at the register was much friendlier. But it's fine, still just opening I guess so maybe they were training the other person that was next to them and didn't really think about service up front at that moment. It's fine, for now. Everything here is fully self-service, including the drinks that seems to be included in the price of the meal, so that is one upside. Following are for lunch service. It's split up into several main sections: the fried stuff, the standard cooked dishes area, the fruits/salad cold area, the mongolian bbq (they call it hibachi, but more mongolian bbq than hibachi) fresh cook area, and the sushi area. The fried stuff area, which also includes some of the stuff that are bbq and such related are on the very left side of the food area. It's a pretty standard selection out of everything there. The standard cooked dishes area offers a good variety of dishes here, with mushroom chicken, to general pasos, to kung pao, to broccoli beef and so on. There's also soups and stuff right at the start. While nothing standards out in particular, I do feel most of the dishes here are pretty bland and just in general not flavored well. I honestly taste nothing, and that's pretty difficult to do for a place that serves Chinese food. Felt like nobody is actually taste testing and just putting food out for the sake of getting it out. The mongolian bbq area is one of the more interesting areas as just like the mongolian bbq place inside, you can pick your ingredients, and they will cook them for you. The only downside is that it suffers from the same issues as the standard cooked side, which is, no flavoring really goes into the making of the ingredients, and they just add a ton of water before the food is even drying on the grill, which makes it really bland in the end when you try to add some flavoring to it because it's already absorb too much moisture so never even had a chance to be flavorful. Again, probably hasn't done this enough yet, so they just need to get used to manning the live grill area, which is a great idea, but I feel needs more training. The sushi area was the only area that was alright, as the California roll wasn't bad, and they had another roll that was decent as well. Just that, the selection is laughable, even for lunch, for a place that has a specific area just for sushi. The selection is very few, and honestly, if they actually had better options I may have ate more of that since again, the only thing halfway decent today was the California rolls. All in all, having waited for months for Fusion Buffet to open since they had already had their signs up for some time now, I was hoping for something better. In the end, while this is one of the two remaining Asian open buffet style restaurants still around in the area (this and China Wall), I honestly would still rather go to the other spot seeing how it's about half the price, and while the selection may not be as much as Fusion Buffet, the food is still more flavorful which can't be said about Fusion Buffet. Perhaps in some weeks when they get their act together I will try them again, but as of right this moment, it was just not an engaging or worthwhile experience. read more

The ambience of the restaurant was really appealing, which drew the attention of myself and my friends when we first walked by the buffet a week ago. We decided to give this place a try thinking it'll meet our initial expectations given it's a buffet... and boy were we very wrong. Some of the food was good like the sushi rolls and cheese wontons, which honestly were the best options available. Then we tried some of the main entrees like the mushroom and kung pao chicken in addition to the coconut shrimp, but none of them had barely any taste nor texture to them. What's even worse, and I don't know why it was a good idea to try them... we decided to try out their pizza which was no more than a mere cheap copy of a Chuck E Cheese pizza and the edamame which was really cold and had an odd taste to them, making one of my friends feeling nauseous afterwards. We appreciated the service of the bussers whom took our plates whenever we were done with each round, which honestly was the highlight of the night. I don't really recommend this buffet, and there are similar yet better buffets with affordable rates that are better to go to for anyone with a big appetite. read more

Tonight was the first time I used the Teppan feature... gave them some veggies and shrimp to cook for me... they were accommodating, started onions first to caramelize them. Actually better than expected. It'll be part of my routine in the future. Surprising when so busy, expect more food turnover, some of the stuff was really tough, like it had sat too long... particularly the big long fish filets. But, OK, that happens in AYCE. Still good appetizer, and Chinese entrées. The sushi is mediocre, but the diced salmon and tuna make up for it... I make poké each vist. In my first review I noted that AYCE places tend to start big, then trim the offerings as the reality of costs set in. I think Fusion is doing that with dessert. The scoop your own ice cream has been replaced with little cups of tasteless artifical stuff. The donuts or mini bundts are gone. I had some chocolate cake ball that was dry and tough. I don't known if it's temporarily broken or discontinued: the chocolate fountain sits there empty. I don't really go there for dessert.... so it won't deter me. I just hope these aren't early signs of further cutbacks. The restaurant industry is really struggling right now. An Asian AYCE place one mile down the road closed less than a year after opening. I know its a difficult decision, and my opinion doesn't necessarily represent others'... I'd rather see them increase prices than cut variety or quality. read more

Oh man! Where do I start? I haven't been the biggest fan of buffets since HomeTown Buffet. However, I was VERY impressed by the quality of food here at Fusion Buffet. Nothing went to waste. I went straight to the crab and crawfish boil. It was delicious. Although it was very packed, all tables were cleaned right away and people were seated just as quickly. I didn't see any empty trays other than the oysters, which people made a line for. Price wasn't too bad either. It's a great addition to Sunvalley Mall. I came to Fusion Buffet last Friday with a group of family/friends. The price is what will probably keep me coming back. That and the service was pretty friendly and prompt. The one weird thing is they had to measure my 11 year old's height which is off putting. If i say he is 11 just put that he is 11. Height doesn't = age or appetite. Anyway, so the selection was pretty decent. We started on the right side and there was sushi, a good variety of rolls... then there was a Mongolian bbq station with noodles (I didn't try this one but my son said it was good). Then you get to the other Chinese food and then some seafood and salad/fruit. In the middle is a dessert station and the desserts were actually pretty tasty. The weird thing is that the chocolate fountain is way by the drinks and the fruit/marshmallows are in the dessert section so its weird to pick them up with tongs then walk over to the fountain if you don't know where everything is. It would make sense to put the items and sticks closer to the fountain. Fountain drinks are included as is coffee (not strong at all), hot tea packets and hot cocoa packets. I like and can appreciate that they give you crab crackers. Now for the food. The beef ribs were probably my favorite and gyoza. The cold crab was dirty still (black on top) and were just okay if you only eat the bottom leg and not the meaty part on top. The cold shrimp looked kinda sad just floating in what I assumed was water. They should have it out of the water and place the shrimp in a way to look more appetizing. It almost looks like you have to fish for them. Also the salt and pepper crab was so overdone I couldn't eat it. I had my fill for $30 thought and will try this place again. I REALLY wanted to like this buffet but unfortunately I'm here to say save your $50 for somewhere else for 2 adults. We came for lunch and although it was very busy the food lacked flavor and variety. There wasn't much of a sushi selection & the Chinese was not good. The area where they cook in front of you like a Mongolian bowl was inedible. Full of garlic and not a good flavor. I came in hopes there would be crab legs but there was none. Only overcooked crawfish & overcooked shrimp. Super bummed! Similar experience as last time. It always seems extremely busy and crowded and it is dangerous that there's a lack of clear walkways in case of emergencies or fires. Also they still haven't added any dietary guidelines for reference at the buffet. Service overall is similar and really appreciate the people doing the grunt work of clearing tables in a timely and friendly manner. But I don't want to see the restaurant so crowded that it's difficult to evacuate. Tables are too close to each other and you can't pass for example from the buffet to the outside dining area. There's so many people that there's traffic jam at the buffet. Remove some tables and chairs and leave some room for walkways and this would also keep the buffet area less busy. Business owners should maximize seats per square footage but done with comfort and safety in mind is imperative. I'm willing to wait a little longer if that means it's more comfortable and safer. read more

I visited Fusion Buffet for an event and was told that it's better than East Bay Buffet in Dublin. I visited at lunch so the selection may be different for dinner. I thought the food was good but the buffet lines were long. Pro tip: don't wait in line, just go to the station you want. The Mongolian stir fry section backs up so the line is longer than needs to be. Unfortunately, it's right next to the sushi line as well. Someone eat here and got sick , have been vomiting and having diarrhea and eventually was hospitalized . She is still in the hospital. This restaurant should make sure they are serving us a clean food and fresh seafood. They can be reported to county's retail food code and city's health sanitation . The dining experience that we had at 4pm on a hot Friday evening was much better than I had expected. One, the air conditioning worked. The restaurant in general was very clean with the exception of one area, the soda fountain. It wasn't that the area was messy but the rug beneath it stuck like when you wash clothes in a washer and then forget about them for a few days, sour. A good hosing off and rack drying should solve the problem. The food was reasonably organized. I tried a bit a many things but probably still only about 1/3 of what was on offer. There was the cold section, salads, peel and eat shrimp, and crab across from the jello and desserts. The hot section, primarily of Chinese dishes including large garlic prawns, sauteed vegetables, fried rice, chow mein and pork buns. The premium hot section was made up of dishes for dinner guests and not the lunch guests who didn't pay for dinner items. Those included pork ribs, beef ribs, honey as well as fried shrimp, and oysters. There was a section with ingredients that you could choose for Mongolian BBQ. I didn't really pay attention to that as it isn't something I'm interested in. The sushi section was interesting. I took an assortment of five pieces. All were okay. I hope that this restaurant will be able to maintain the quality. At many other buffets, they often start off with decent sushi but then the quality goes downhill after a few months. Staff was friendly. Empty plates were taken away almost immediately. Someone else said that the spacing between tables was tight. I agree but completely understand why. I can see coming back a couple more times for dinner just to try the other dishes and see how this business progresses. This new buffet has been all over TikTok and IG, so you know we had to try it! This is one of the better buffets in space, ambience, cleanliness, variety and of course, taste of food( most important!). Tip #1- it fills up fast, by the time we were done, the place was completely full! So go on the early side. Tip #2- skip sushi side( just ok) first since first in the line and go straight to the Mongolian bbq wok section if you want fresh cooked noodles/meat. That section has a long wait since they are cooking it one by one for you. So go to that place first, it quickly gets backed up! Tip#3 - skip the middle first which is mainly fillers. Head to the end on the other side where it is opposite of the sodas. They have awesome ribs and crab, shrimp, etc. I filled up on the middle first and then didn't have room for the ribs, and seafood bc I was so stuffed! They had a wonderful and tender, moist sweet and sour fish filets. I don't even like fish and I had a bite of my husband's and had to get that after! Sushi was just ok, so don't fill up too much on that. Ribs were Asian style like Korean or Chinese tasting. And big ribs! The seafood was great. In the soup area they had Taro Sago which I never had before- it is a dessert( not soup like the rest) and think Filipino. That was sooo good and comforting! I rather have that than the desserts even! So overall very good for a buffet and better than the rest of the Asian buffets I have tried in this area. It is Asian geared, although they did have pizza. We have to keep this restaurant around! One last tip# 4- if you have a birthday you can get the bday person FREE IF you have a total of 7 adults(6 adults with one free bday person so 7 total). Overall, this buffet is decent with a big variety, fresh sushi made on the spot, chow mein, chicken and lots of seafood (shrimp, mussels, oysters, crab, shrimp boil), plus a fresh fruit and salad bar. Dessert is solid too with ice cream (mango, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry) and a chocolate fountain. A couple of downsides: there's often a strong foul smell near the chocolate fountain, and the tipping system is unfair. You pay upfront, and if you tip by card, the servers don't see it. These servers are greatvery attentive and constantly cleaning. So I recommend bringing cash to tip them directly.
