The Fulton ale house has been a part of the bed-stuy community for quite some time now. One of the things I enjoy most about living in this neighborhood is that when people frequent these specific establishments, often times they're coming in for fellowship and connection. Last night, my friend and I walked in to the ale house and went straight to the back to use the restroom. When we walked in we didn't see anyone at the door and it was rather late at night, but we walked in quietly and fully expected to purchase something from the bar in order to use the restroom. In fact, I was standing by the bar with my friend when she went to use the restroom. When she tried to go in, a middle-age woman with glasses and blonde hair, proceeded to put her physical body between my friend and the bathroom. The employee escalated the situation incredibly quickly and did not start by explaining that we had to purchase something in order to use the bathroom. It was only when I noticed the commotion and went to the bathroom and asked the worker to bring down her voice, to understand that we were not here to start any trouble, and that in order for us to move forward, we need her to calm down and de-escalate. It was then that she said that there is a sign that says only customers can use the restroom. To which I said that is fine. I can buy a beer and I will buy a beer for my friend to use the restroom, but it doesn't make any sense for you to treat people this way. We are grown adults, we did not see the sign initially, but to be treated in that way without any explanation at first was disheartening, hurtful, and disrespectful. The bartender apologized profusely for the employee's actions and explained that she had had a rough morning. To which I said, she should've been sent home when you noticed that she was not having a good day. We all have bad days, we all are human, but this is yet another example of people minding their business, not trying to start any issues and other individuals assuming the worse and bringing unnecessary anger, fear, and anxiety to a situation. I also went to share that I had noticed that before the woman proceeded to block the bathroom, she had approached two black men sitting at the bar and then pointed towards us. As I exited the bar, I asked them. What did she say to you because I find it very interesting that she approached you and then proceeded to act in the way that she acted. To which one of the gentlemen said, "Because of other incidents, she told she told us to be alert and to keep an eye on you." My question is, is this something that is said to every patron that enters the Fulton ale house. Lastly, I didn't start with this, but I'll note that one of the last things I said to the bartender was this was particularly hurtful because this event was carried out by a white woman, who asked two black men to essentially "police" two black women on Juneteenth! To the management of Fulton Ale House, I don't want a response because I don't want to hear excuses...I just need you all to do better. Peace!

It very inclusive, warm staff, feels elevated without being pretentious and tons of tvs/seating. I asked the bartender if she can put on the Knicks and she did with no issues. It's cozy, but able to fit a good amount of people in a 2-car garage space. Nice, local spot for drinks and hanging out. They also have video games, darts, etc. for your entertainment too.

During the day it's bright inside, and at night it turns into a moody, intimate setting filled with conversation and/or people singing. The space is small and fills up quickly, so I recommend getting there early if you want a seat because there isn't a ton of seating inside. Staffing is on the smaller side, so expect delays when there is a packed house. Now onto the food. The menu is classic bar food like wings, burgers, and fries. For wings, I've had both the Sticky Mezcal and the Shaquanda wings. The Sticky Mezcal wasn't my favorite, but I loved the Shaquanda wings. If they were fried a bit harder, they would be perfect. I've also had the burger, which was good, but for the price point, I do wish it came with something on the side. Drinks-wise, I'm a creature of habit and always order the Ginbella. This is genuinely the only place that got me into drinking gin. I will say, though, the portion-to-price ratio feels a little off lately. It seems like the drink has been served in a smaller glass recently, and at a $15 price point, I do wish it were a bit more. Also to my espresso martini lovers, the ones here are also very good. They have different DJs in rotation, so the music can be a hit or miss depending on the night. In the many times I've been here, I've heard hip hop, R&B, and some old school reggae. As for the crowd, this is definitely more of a 27+ vibe. Between the music and the overall vibe, it feels catered to that age range and up. All in all, you'll catch me here year-round.
