I've always enjoyed shopping here, and usually try to shop here instead of one of the big box stores if I can. But my experience there today ensured that I won't spend another dime there. A few days ago, I purchased a cheap wire cutter/stripper. I got it home and tried to use it, but it was made so poorly that it wouldn't cut or strip wire. So the tool was completely useless, and came from the factory that way. This wasn't an expensive tool and I wasn't expecting something that would give me years of service, but I was expecting something that would at least work long enough for me to complete a small rewiring project I'm working on. I attempted to return the tool today. The cashier told me that "We don't accept tool returns. Someone could buy a bolt cutter, cut a bolt and return the tool when they were done using it." Which makes sense, but there is a big difference between returning an obviously used tool, and a brand new tool that had a manufacturing defect that wouldn't allow it to work at all. I told the cashier that I understood that it wasn't her policy, but the store's policy was a bad one that would ensure that I don't purchase any tools there in the future. At that point, the manager (I'm assuming) called out from her office near the register that we shouldn't be arguing. I'm not sure if she was talking to me or the cashier. Regardless, we weren't arguing (The cashier was very nice as she explained the store's ridiculous policy to me), and it was pretty condescending the way we were yelled at. The cashier told me that I could exchange the tool for something different, so I did, and wound up having to spend a little bit more. In hindsight, I should have just done a chargeback on my credit card since they refused to return an item that was defective and unused. Next time, I'll just go to Harbor Freight and get a similar tool that's twice the quality for half the price. Harbor Freight sells cheap junk tools, but they at least stand behind them, which is more than I can say for this Ace. read more

I am soooooo very grateful for Steve at this location. He was patient, kind and really had passion for his job. He helped with programming a new remote key for my car. He was extremely considerate especially in this time of covid. Wanting to make sure I was getting the right product, especially since I was spending a reasonable about of money. I have been going to this store for a couple of decades. Have always appreciated their specialized customer service and shame on me for never taking my time to write a review. It is the one store I feel comfortable to walk in holding a screw and saying I need a replacement. There is never any judgement-they walk me straight to the screw and bolt isle and get to work. My recent visit proved this once again. Thanks Bob for not giving up on finding a solution for a kitchen sink screw. The developers had used an incorrect part. I bought a core aerator for my lawn here. When I brought it home to use it, 1 if the hole works ok, the dirt did came out as I pushed down the lawn, but the other hole, the dirt stuck in there and did not come out. Instead of creating hold in the lawn, it just pushed the soil aside and made it more compact. My wife brought the item back to return, but the store manager was saying there was nothing wrong with the aerator, and it was because of our soil, and nothing wrong with the holes in the aerator. What do you mean because of the soil?? The soil stuck in there, it is not supposed to be stuck in there, it's supposed to push the soil out every single time the aerator wash pushed down on the lawn. Such dumb answer from a store manager. I would give 0 star if I could read more

I called in I guess after they closed, so left a message. I have two replacement remote keys for my 2014 Chrysler Town and Country, and they need to be programmed. I've had keys made at Fullerton ACE before, and often locksmiths can also do programming. I asked them to contact me and tell me if they could do the programming. It would be one thing if they didn't have the capability, but a day later still no email or phone call. It will cost me a lot to have the emergency key and the programming done at a dealer. It shouldn't be this hard to get an answer YES or NO. Maybe I can get it done at one of those parking lot kiosks. I'm disappointed in Ace Fullerton. read more

I had first called this store on August 6th, to ask them a question. Terry was friendly from the beginning of the phone conversation and was willing to listen to the terrible service I had at the Anaheim Hills location. I called again today, to ask a different question and she was just as friendly as the first time. I had mentioned to Terry that they needed a screen repaired and she informed they are doing them at their location. She said they have two employees and they both do a great job. I went there today, I was waiting in line, and the two people at the registers said I would have to go to the counter across from them, they would call someone to help me. Then showed up Steve, he showed up probably not even a moment later and got all the info he needed and measured the screen. I am beyond thankful for the staff at this location, plus the store is very clean, friendly staff, and well lit. I will definitely go back to this location and not the one in Anaheim Hills. I didn't catch his name, but the young man at the register is very polite as well. I also spoke to Bob, he was the manager on duty at the time and told him how wonderful his staff was and provided a better experience then the one I had yesterday at a different location. I had originally went to Home Depot to get my broken car key cut, but their fancy key machine couldn't read it and suggested that I call a locksmith to get a new key made. Then I read in the Nextdoor app that someone had keys made at Ace Hardware. So I drove down there and was helped by a really pleasant guy. I didn't get his name, but he's younger and tattoos on his leg. He didn't count my broken key out. Rather, he said he would give it a try. Well, that's all I could really ask for. He was able to cut me 2 new keys that worked like a charm from my broken key! I appreciated the effort he put in and I will definitely be coming back to this store, they've got great customer service and a surprisingly large selection of various goods. read more

I really wanted to like Fullerton Ace Hardware. I have lived in in Fullerton 23 years. While I really appreciate that they stock items for my vintage home in the neighborhood and that they are the small shop versus big box store, their greatest weakness is in their employees. For instance, a new employee I asked to make a key seemed annoyed that I've taken her away from a conversation with the employees. It was a simple master lock key. She couldn't find the blank and when I questioned her about it her response was terse and impolite. I decided if she couldn't find one of the most common keys on the planet and she was going to give me a hard time I wanted my key back because I didn't believe she had the skill to make it. The reason this review isn't a two star is because of the older and experienced staff. But unless I just need a machine screw or it's an emergency, I recommend Depot or Lowes. We felt uncomfortable shopping here. The older man working there wouldn't stop following us as if we were trying to steal something. After he came to our aisle (again) we told him we had found what we were looking for and he motioned for us to follow him so we followed him to a key stand and he turned around and glared and said "do you need keys or something" and we said no and he said "then go pay up front." He just seems like someone who shouldn't be in customer service. The guy who checked us out wasn't any nicer. Came in today to return a few items I had purchased from ACE, and was met with horrible customer service. I had my receipt for the item which was a cut disposal pipe, which their associate advised me to get on a previous visit. It turned out to be the wrong pipe. When I tried to bring this up to them they tried to make me feel stupid even stating "you don't know the size pipe you need". Obviously I didn't hence why I asked the associate in the first place. Also nowhere on their receipt did it say that the "sale was final". When I bought it originally they didn't vocally tell me the sale was final either. All I wanted was store credit anyways as I was going to spend it in their store that same visit. If you have a sale policy, legally that policy needs to be known to the customer on the receipt and/or vocally at time of purchase. Apparently a less than $20 return is worth them not getting my money at all now. Will not shop at this location again, and advise you to read other reviews that state a similar customer service experience. Sad to see a family business not treat people like they are family. That's the best way to keep customers. Off to the corporate stores where they value their customers. read more

Unsatisfactory! I recently started to visit this store because I thought it would bring back an old school feeling since Ace Hardware is one of the original hardware stores. I visited this location a couple of times before and it was just ok. One day I needed an item but the item was sold out. I kindly asked the front clerk if there were more in the back stock room. The clerk asked me if there was a blue dot on the shelf by the price label. The clerk continued to say if there was a blue dot that meant the item is not in stock and will be ordered, and the item should be restocked soon. My long ago customer training at Sears came back to my frontal lobe of my brain and the best answer by the Ace Hardware employee would have been 1. Let me contact someone in the back to check for you.- Or - 2. Let me check on that for you and I'll be right back. None of that happened and I felt I was dismissed and unimportant. (I dont expect to know your Ace hardware blue dot system and i dont want to know!) I ended up purchasing another item and I needed a bag. The clerk focused on the 10 cent charge of the bag and kept asking if I was ok with the additional cost of the bag. I felt as if there was some judgement on whether I could afford the additional 10 cents. It was very weird. All in all I visited this store to help support, get a sense of nostalgia, and just experience great customer care. None of that happened. With today's options of other hardware stores I just easily changed my mind and now make Lowes my go to hardware store. It's much cheaper in prices, they give military discounts, and I get the same or better treatment in comparison to Ace Hardware. Shop smarter but not at Ace Hardware is my motto. Remediate your customer service training at Ace Hardware. When I was 16 years old back in 1984 great customer service was paramount in order to establish public trust. Ace is not a bad place! It has everything you typically need for your house, office or construction project, but just a smaller selection of all of the basics. Sometimes you don't need to go to Home Depot for some small minor things, and its good to know that this place has a good selection! Its nice going to a hardware store and not getting that overwhelming "Costco-Home Depot- I am stuck in a giant warehouse and I have to walk 1/2 a mile to get to the entrance" feeling. Was looking for weed puller and at big chains like home depot, they had it but it was a 3rd party selling it and so HD didn't have any in stock. Lowe's had a few in stock which is great but the price was $35. I was okay with price but thought came to mind about ace hardware helped me out. I told him and I would be there in 20 minutes so have the last two weed pullers waiting for me and when I got there sure enough it was waiting for me at the register. If you talk about quick and quality service color this is the place to go. Home Depot workers are not as well informed because it's a big chain. At Lowe's you will have good quality service and knowledgeable staff but again the price of real estate will drive up product prices. Not very pleasant. I stepped in yesterday to get some items for my bathroom remodel. The old guy was very unfriendly and clearly was way past his retirement. Answered me with attitude like what do you want? I walked out in less than 2 min. Went to HD and they greeted me at the door. These places are a hit and miss, but I would recommend to Ace in the world of Home Depot being so dominant, customer service will bring people in to your store if you greet them nicely. read more

We used to be very loyal customers here for years. We'd drive all the way from Cerritos to pick up this and that for the house and yard. We went recently to buy items with the whole family and they refused to take $100 bills. "We've had problems. Just use your credit card." Well, we don't want to put everything on a credit card. What's wrong with just using cash? Even though they knew we were regular customers, they refused to make an exception. Should one bad experience overshadow the other good experiences at the store? Actually, yes. The whole reason you go to an over-priced Ace Hardware is for the personal connection of feeling like a valued customer. To be not be trusted after years of patronage ruins that. Wow Mr. ART is the real MVP. I needed to drill 2 small holes in my guitar aluminum pedalboard and do not own a power drill(I know I need to buy one, because every man needs a power drill)so I was looking at the drill bits section of the store to look for the right drill bit size while holding the small screw that's supposed to be screwed in the hole and comparing which one I need. At this point I was very stressed out knowing I had to now buy a whole power drill, which are not cheap tools, try and hope I find the right size drill bit, and all this work just for 2 small holes in my pedalboard...Then a very friendly old worker named Art approaches a confused and a lost me asking if I needed any assistance with anything. I told him my situation and he takes the small screw I was holding and starts looking at the drill bits and chooses one out for me(a 5/64" Irwin) and realizes I don't own a power drill and says not to worry, just buy the drill bit only. He then goes to the back and brings out the store's own power drill, sticks my drill bit on, tells me to line up the holes and starts drilling the holes himself for me and I just stood there holding down the pedalboard stabilizing it for him : a little teamwork action. He then neatly and quickly drills my 2 holes for me, gives me back the drill bit I just bought, and makes a little joke about how when he sees me perform on stage, tell the venue, "Free margaritas for this guy." I haven't been to an Ace Hardware store in a while, maybe 15 years? After finding out that they carried Lemax Christmas Village, we decided to visit this store. We were amazed with what they carried. Hardware is only about 50% of the inventory. The rest is home decoration. If you are expecting Home-Depot-with-better-service sort of store, you'd be half right. The workers are knowledgeable but not really on the friendly side. In fact, I thought they were a bit snooty. Most were older men who look like they've been working there for years. When you ask them a question, they, unlike Home Deport, will have an answer for you....but being friendly?...not so much. As expected, their prices are a little high. I believe these stores are franchised. I love supporting local business but I get the feeling that they do not know how to up-sell the reasons of their existence. read more

Beware of ordering online on Ace's website and picking up at the store. I ordered a Pizza oven online for Cyber Monday to take advantage of the special price, which the manufacturer also offered directly on their site, but decided to order through ace and pick up at the store thinking that if their was an issue they would assist me in person. After I placed the order I received a call stating that they did not have the oven and that they would receive one later in the week to fulfill my order, which was fine, or i could also buy their display at regular price. I mentioned I bought on a special price, so they said just to wait till the new one arrived. The day it arrived they called me and stated that they couldn't honor the cyber Monday price and would have to pay full price due, and quickly blamed it on Ace.com which is not part of their store. I understand how Ace works and that they are independently owned, but why then offer that service and not honor it. I guess its a loophole to blame another party when they don't want to fulfil. the worst part is after telling me they would fulfil my order all the cyber Monday deal passed and now have to pay full price on any site. read more

I only go to Ace a few time a year since I don't own my own home. I go to get spare keys made, kitchen items, and some items you used to be able to find and knock knack shops. They carry Hallmark Christmas ornaments as well if there isn't a shop close to you. There is always a friendly face to assist as well. read more

Ordered patio chairs for pick up and we opted for curbside pick up. We were able to pick the ordered items very quickly! Unfortunately, it was pretty dark out when we picked up the chairs and this morning, we realized one of the chairs was cracked on the side. I called this morning when they opened and spoke to a very lazy, rude representative named Bob. I explained to him the situation and he simply said, "well go ahead and return it in stores" without inquiring about the item I purchased or gathering any more information to be of ANY assistance to me. I wouldn't call if I just needed to return something... I explained to him I do not live close by and need to know if they are in stock before I make the drive to return/exchange. He said something very vague and along the lines of "well we don't have these in stock here". I will remind you he has no idea what product I purchased and has not asked me anything regarding my order number, item number, description--nothing at all. I told him " you haven't even asked me for my item number, you don't know what order or item is". He said "we don't have outdoor patio furniture here", in which I then understood a little better and he could have quickly explained that to me at the beginning of the call. I then had to ask him if he could order the item so that I can pick it up and exchange the broken chair at the same time in which he said "okay" and FINALLY asked for the item number, which he should have asked for all along. I asked if I would receive a confirmation email to know when it was available. He said "No, you won't get anything. I just need your name and phone number". I'm fuming at this point because this has been the most unhelpful customer service experience I have had. I had to do his job for him and he was extremely sour about having to assist me. He put me on hold quickly, and came back and said, "it'll be here next Thursday". And I'm over this entire 5 minute, one way conversation with him and just say thank you and good bye. If I had just driven to the store to return/exchange the chair like Bob said, to find out they don't have it in stock and needed to order it, I would have been extremely upset. I too, work in customer service, and this experience could have quickly been resolved and a positive experience: "Hello, unfortunately we do not carry outdoor patio furniture here, but if you give me the item number, i will gladly check if it available in our warehouse to order for you. You can pick it up in about a week". But instead I am shocked how little effort this representative made at doing his job. Despite how annoying it is to do someone else's job, I am glad i kept asking the questions I did so I didn't waste any of my time. 2 stars for the quick curbside pickup and that's about it. If I could give negative stars for the lack of customer service or just lazy, unhelpful, and poor attitude from Bob, the representative, I would. It was like pulling teeth for him to help me. Very disappointed and I plan to exchange the chairs and would not come here again unless I ABSOLUTELY had to. read more

It's easier to list the things you cant buy at Ace so thats what I'll do. You can't buy big stuff like lumber, drywall, and trees, for that you'll have to visit Home Depot. Ace is where you want to go if you are fixing something and you need a part or a tool. It's super convenient and they have people on staff who can give you advice about how to fix stuff. In the past I have bought paint for my bathroom to match the existing color. I've found replacement springs to repair a pop out cup holder in my car, I also bought screws and a screwdriver to fix my sunglasses. They also have a bunch of home decor and kitchen stuff. During the holidays you can find unique gifts that you don't often see elsewhere, and it's not crowded like the mall. read more
