I absolutely love this place! They always have what I'm looking for. I live in an older style house and it's so hard to find parts. The big box stores just don't have what I need. And everyone there knows what they talking. There is no substitution for an experienced sales person. From older plumbing to low voltage home repairs I've never been let down! I recently went in there for lock repair and they had it done while I finished the rest of my shopping. My wife loves it too because they have a great selection of home goods that are unique. I love Fullerton Ace Hardware. It is such a great store to find what you are looking for. I stay away from Lowes as much as I can and I never go to Home Depot. Everything I need is tucked away in this tiny little store in Fullerton. The people that work here are very knowledgeable and I have never walked away empty handed. I actually discovered this store while I was on my way to the Twisted Vine to meet my wife on our first date 8 years ago. If you are not familiar with the area, Fullerton Ace Hardware is on Commonwealth right next door to the Twisted Vine. If the two establishments could merge, such a dream come true! I am a Weber grill aficionado and Fullerton Ace Hardware has EVERYTHING you could possibly imagine for Weber grills. Not just Weber, but grilling in general. There is also a large selection of kitchen gadgets, pots, pans, etc. I would highly recommend visiting this hardware store before going to the larger stores. You might pay a little bit more, but you get better service and a good knowledge base from the employees. read more

So bummed about this place and this review. Just moved into town and hoped to be shopping here for the next few decades. I had the rude awakening that they don't take returns. Even though I was going to exchange it for something more expensive but still no go. I simply was suggested that a particular cutting tool would do the job for cutting palm tree branches. It's honestly a new thing for me.. What I had gotten I found out later would not do the trick so I wanted to upgrade. No way to do this here. I have to now sell this online. Sadly I'll never shop here again . I can't afford to buy something and not have the option to return it if it does not work I am not wealthy and have kids to help support. Sadly, they just lost a lifetime customer who owns a house and likes tools and fixing up my home. . Lost 1000's for one 40 dollar item. NOT SAFE TO SHOP HERE. Every employee and some of the customers either had no mask or wore it under their chin or noses. And it's a small store, so better chance of it spreading. It's hard to believe there are still people and businesses that don't take this seriously. It's your duty as a business to ensure the safety of your customers. Non-compliance with state mandated emergency orders by businesses and patrons is not only careless and criminal, it's prolonging the outbreak and killing more people. If you don't care about your own life, that is your prerogative, but willfully putting others at risk is criminal. Put on a mask (over both your nose and mouth) and keep your distance. It's really not that hard and is for the common good. We are all in this together. Wearing a mask (properly) shows you are informed and care about others. Be part of the solution instead of part of the problem. My guess is that because they are considered an 'essential' business that they feel they can get away with noncompliance. Shameful. UPDATE: 7/16/20 IN RESPONSE TO STORE COMMENT: If your store were taking it seriously you would not be letting staff and customers walk around the store with their masks under their noses and chins or as I saw in addition to that, with no mask at all. While the shield at the checkouts is good, it does little to nothing if the cashiers put their masks under their chin or take it off completely when behind it. It's not a sealed area. You are still sharing air with the customers and putting them at risk, not to mention putting fellow staff at even higher risk. Your snide comment, "We do not appreciate nor condone false claims that we are doing anything but putting the safety of all those who enter our store first" is a weak and unprofessional attempt at deflecting and denying reality at the expense of not only me, but anyone who enters your store. You are passively implying that I did not see what I saw. Why don't you just come out and say what you really meant and call me a liar? That is what you are doing by that statement. If you had responded to my review in a professional manner, you would have considered that what I was saying was true and offered to at least look into it and make it right. But no, it's easier to pretend all is well, nothing to see here, and attack the messenger. I want your store and staff to do well. However, your store is not safe to shop in and that is not my fault, that falls on you. Unlike you, I care about my, and others' health and take responsibility for my actions by complying with the face covering mandate. I have a mask on (over my nose and mouth) before entering your, or any store, and I keep it on at all times. That's me doing my part. I can't control what you or others do. It is your responsibility to ensure the safety of your customers and staff. If you continue to be lax on safety protocols and mandates that is you putting your store at risk, not me. If you really cared about your store and staff doing well, you would be professional and take responsibility for how you run your store. If you really were "doing anything but putting the safety of all those who enter our store first" you would not let your staff wear their masks under their chin or not at all. I was alarmed by what I saw when shopping in your store and did not feel safe being there. The public has a right to know that they are at risk coming into your store. You have a responsibility to change that by taking this seriously. read more

Support your local hardware store. There is something about going to the hardware store that makes you feel like a man. Both my grandpa and my dad are handymen and instilled that in me at a young age. I had a tool belt as wee lad and felt the pride of wearing it. Local hardware stores are as American as apple pie. The big chain hardware stores like Home Depot and Lowes are great and will undoubtedly have whatever it is you are looking for in the tools and hardware dept. I am not putting these places down, but I just love going to a neighborhood place like Ace. This Ace is in walking distance of my casa. I appreciate the old guys who work in there. Whatever it is you are looking for, they know exactly where to find it and have probably used it before. I just want to pull up a chair to these guys and ask them to tell me a story. I bet they have some great ones. I have bought everything from light bulbs, paint, sandpaper, nails, screws and even filled my propane tank here. Beware!!! Im never coming to this place again because of the older man in charge of the hardware dept. Home depot and lowes is the way to go. I bought a reese reciever/coupler lock on 09/19/19 around 3:45 in the afternoon and at first everyone was nice. After i left i opened the package and the coupler pin came apart so i go back and i show the cashier and she was nice and and got me some help. The guy that checked it out asked me how i broke it amd i said it broke when i was opening it and he said thats not possible that i did something to it to break it. By this time he was giving me a bad attitude and began arguing with me. He then told the cashier to give me back my money and told me to never come back to the store again. He told me " well i dont believe you". If your reading this please go to home depot. I only came to ace hardware because the service was second to none. But i guess thats no the case anymore Before i bought it i told the man a story of how someone rear ended my friends truck and he had a hitch attached to the reciever and nothing happened to his truck and when returning it he said it must have been my friend reciever lock. I love shopping local and it has the feel of a hardware store, as opposed to Home Depot or Lowe's, which is why I gave 3 stars. Unfortunately there's a few older men who work here who are just down right rude and seem pretty unhappy to be working there. Add to this rudeness they also seem incapable of wearing a mask over their noses or in one case a mask at all. I know not everyone feels the same way about masks and the pandemic but I would think setting an example for all customers would be important or if you're going to put yourself at risk at least be nice and customer oriented. read more

I was hoping to go to a small local business to help support them, I needed a key made and when I walked in the cashier said she would send someone over to the key counter. I waited at the key counter for 10 minutes before I slowly walked to the front looking down each aisle searching for someone's help. Finally I was back at the cash register after seeing no one to help me. She was talking to two customers so I looked towards the paint counter and saw someone doing nothing. I asked them if I could get a copy of a key made and he replied with, "We are really busy right now you are going to have to wait" in a rude tone. Great place for novice plumbers. I almost bought the wrong parts that may have created a water disaster at my house. Asked Dan for help and he picked out correct parts, explained everything I needed and how to install them. After 2 try's to help me understand he said, " come over here I'll show you how this works". He took parts out of packaging an assembled so I could get a visual of the steps. He wasn't going to let me out of the store until I got it. It worked Dan!, no leaks! Yesterday, I went to Fullerton Ace Hardware to order paint for the whole interior of my home. Everybody there was soo friendly, so helpful (and soo patient with me!!) Let me start by saying that I usually do reviews only if a place is really good or really bad. I dropped of my lawnmower blade for some sharpening at this place thinking it would be fairly quick to get it back. The guy working there said it might take about a week which at the time I thought wasn't that quick to be honest but left it there anyway. Two weeks later I gave them a call since I hadn't heard anything from them and they told me it wasn't back yet. To be fair they did say they didn't sharpen there and had it picked to be sharpened elsewhere. Anyway I asked the lady if she could give me a time frame and she said she didn't know but "we're very good at giving you a call once it arrives" so I left it at that. A week later and no call, three weeks for sharpening was a lil to exaggerated so I called them back. The person I spoke to put me on hold for about ten minutes and then returned only to say "oh I have bad news, the blade was never sent out to be sharpened" WTH?!!!!! Really?!!! At that point was to frustrated to deal with them so I went to pick up my blade. The person at the store gave me this story about him not knowing what happened and blah blah blahhh. After I picked up my blade I took it to a lil lawnmower shop a couple blocks away and asked if they could sharpen it. The man said it would take him five minutes!! I got my blade sharpened and went home to cut my three week long lawn. read more

I have always been a loyal customer and fan of Ace Hardware for over 20 years. I gift shop there and load up on Christmas decorations in November.I think I bought out all the musical brooms at Halloween. Great item! It is getting harder and harder to find parking because of the restaurants in the area but it is worth a few circles around the parking lot. Until yesterday. Yesterday, Rosalie, that's what her name tag said, , was carrying on a very lengthy and what I thought was a personal conversation with another woman. After quite a bit of time went by I excused myself for interrupting them by saying I just had a quick question. She said she would get me help and called out for someone so she could carry on her conversation. While checking out I asked for the manager to tell my complaint and was told Rosalie was the owner's WIFE. So even if she is on the floor, wearing a Ace vest and name tag she get's to do what she wants. WOW, I felt immediately for the employees that had to work and couldn't do what ever they wanted. She was rude. Unbelievably. I will NEVER shop there again. NEVER. read more

Ya know, I have been going to Fullerton Hardware for about 20 years. It's a big ace hardware store. They have a few things that are darned incredible. 1. Their nuts bolts and screws department are outstanding. They have *everything*. You can get 10-24, 10-32, and every other size including metric, and unlike that super hardware store you get what you need, you can buy 3, 9 or 52 screws and nuts to match. And guess what? If you want a whole box just reach in the back if the drawer where you can get a terrific discount on full boxes of 100 fasteners, so much better, cheaper and easier to find than at HD. It's just great, and there is someone there to help you! Unlike at HD where you could die waiting for someone to help you find something. 2. Their household/housewares/cooking/kitchen section has stuff you *can't* get anywhere else I know. Like for instance I have a 1947 model Presto pressure cooker, I walked in Fullerton Hardware and they had a seal kit. For a 60+ year old pressure cooker! Unbelievable. They have the whole line of excellent Lodge cast iron cookware. They have high end brands and models you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere. And someone to help you! 3. They have drill bits. Numbered, fractional, etc, and at great prices. So I recommend you try out Fullerton Hardware. I am glad they are there. The world would be worse if they weren't. Personal service. Convenient parking. What's not to like? You can't get lumber, it's not a place for roofing or drywall, but the world is a little better for them being there. I'm glad to shop there. read more

I saw an employee I waved to him, and he saw me and ignored me, looked at another customer and asked if they needed help. I was told that this place had a lot of different mason jars. So I was excited to go. But this place is such a random place!! hardware on one side, a weird smell, and trinkets on the other, like ceramic cats, frog salt and pepper shakers...then some cookware...I thought it was a hardware store..haha. It was pretty hilarious, like an old person's house full of random things they've collected over the years. Rachel and Kenny at the Fullerton ACE Hardware have been incredibly helpful every visit I've made to this store. Rachel helps me find what I need, and she always ensures I'm satisfied with my visit. She even recuts duplicate keys if they're not working perfectly. Kenny helps me problem solve hardware challenges, like locating unusual, black, flat-headed washers and screws that fit metal loft beds. The store stocks a really cool mix of products to meet the needs of folks like me, living in downtown areas. For example, this ACE carries Hallmark cards, gift items, and essential household goods. It's a block away from my usual Downtown Fullerton hangouts, so I can easily walk over to get what I need after meeting a pal for coffee or a meal. I no longer have to drive to multiple retail outlets to get through a typical errand list. Helpful, quick, close to home. They may cost a little more than Home Depot, but you get what you pay for with them. They treat you like a customer and their employees are well informed. Whereas at Home Depot you get a lot of guessing from the employees and they carry nothing but standard sized product, Fullerton Ace Hardware knows its business and carries standard and non-standard sizes. Due to a drainpipe leak under my sink, needed a replacement polymer washer to fix the connector on the tailpiece drainpipe attached to my kitchen sink. I brought in the broken washer and a photo of what I was trying to fix, Kenny helped me find the part and gave me instructions on how to install the washer. Estimated plumbing cost for the fix was about $200. Friendly advice on DIY from Ace - about $3. Kenny's worth his weight in gold for his help! Marsha at the register was also so friendly and helpful. I took a small group, 3 to be exact, of my adult students into this store today to buy some snacks. Never mind the fact that one had to wait outside with my co worker because their entrance had stairs and he was in a wheelchair. Anyways, snacks are located underneath the register counter and "Becky with the blond hair" was standing behind the counter. Two of my students went to look for candy and another walked aimlessly into the store, away from us, but in no harm to himself or anyone else for that matter. My backed was turned as I was grabbing some ice cream and I hear "Becky" yell out several times for my one students to come back. He was already walking back and I proceeded to tell "Becky" I would handle him. She replied that she used to be a teacher. Still not sure why she said this. I then went to the counter where my two other students were. One had picked his candy out and the other was knelt down in front of the counter still looking. He stands up and pulls his pants up from his back pockets and "Becky" loudly tells him, "You can't put that there!" I was shocked to say the least. My student stands there, opens his hands, and tells her he doesn't have anything. "Becky" replies, "I saw you!" and comes around the counter to check his pockets! I'm speechless and embarrassed for my student. "Becky with the blond hair" offered no apology so I gather all their candy, place it on the counter and tell her, "My students are not thieves" and leave. I have brought my students here many times before this and have never experienced such rude, obnoxious, behavior from an employee. My students work in downtown Fullerton and it was a nice place to take them to after lunch. However, thanks to "Becky with the blond hair" I will avoid this place like the plague. Oh and about their stairs at the store entrance, it's not very customer friendly to make someone in a wheelchair go around your building so you can unlock your unused door to let them in. Kind of discriminatory in this day and age. Something your "Becky with the blond hair" should know about having supposedly been a teacher. Shame on you lady! read more
