This is by far the best Ace Hardware I've ever been to. I know I may not look like it, but I'm hardcore about hardware. The space is very open, not congested like other Aces I've been to. They have a ton of unexpected items, like the photograph I attached of gift wrap (?) paper that I bonded with the employee on regarding how we buy oversized paper like this to decorate our walls at home. Hehe I had such a pleasant time here. They only have a few brands of teeny tiny paint sample cards (I collect them to use as bookmarks or affirmations to tape on my mirror, etc). My son and his friend waited in total about 4 hours. They arrived around 6:30 am there were about 10-12 people in front of them we already knew it was a very small chance they would be able to get at least 1 advent calendar. Someone came out and handed them tickets and then once the tickets were handed out they were told they could leave and come back. Of course the boys left and then returned at 10:30. They had numbers on the tickets and when getting in line to purchase the needohs people were allowed to go in and make Needoh purchases that didn't have a ticket. Which was confusing and on top of that the order of the tickets were not being honored. It was very disappointing. Did they get Needohs yes, but was this event also unorganized and not well thought out 100%. I get that things happen and in cases like this people will be disappointed. It's also okay for Ace Hardware to admit, yeah we messed up. A side note, the Needohs were up priced, they were about $12.99 and the quality of the Needohs were not that great. A lot of inconsistencies and then looking into it more they aren't on the retailer list. All of these things can just be small mistakes and that is all fine but the event itself just seemed unorganized. Not the best experience. I am a military minority Veteran who was treated with disrespect at Fullerton Ace Hardware. I have a toolbox that doesn't stay fastened so the clasps come off repeatedly. I asked the Ace guy about suggestions and he said, "There are no choices, and you just have to accept the problem." I asked the Manager and she said, "That there is nothing to fix the problem" I asked her if she had a toolbox and she said "No" and a screw wouldn't solve the problem and she got offended when I questioned her further and she asked me to leave. I don't appreciate being disrespected by a manager who is sensitive when challenged and the staff at Ace who didn't want to help me. No one was kind to me at all. Is this how you treat a minority Veteran who serves your country and instead is treated like dirt. The women don't know anything about toolboxes and aren't interested in helping me at all. They show no interest in looking for a solution and claimed that there was none! I wouldn't go to this Ace hardware store where you can't express your opinion, and you have to walk on eggshells! This is a hostile environment where expressing yourself is not welcome. I don't think freedom of speech is welcome as well at this store. read more

So I went to there Halloween Needoh sale on Friday mind you I saw about this advertisement the night prior and it stated they open at 8am but the won't start selling them till 11:30. I'm assuming of course there would be a line, so I get there at 10am and I see a line with a limited amount of people so I wait like others and more people get in line after me about 7 people some with young ones and it's a very hot day. It wasn't until 10:30 a person in line said "did anyone hear something about tickets being passed out cause they just posted they sold out of tickets" none of us knew what she was talking about. So we started searching all there sources for anything stating tickets would be passed out and nothing! Only thing we could find was TICKETS SOLD OUT FOR NEEDOHS. So one of the people in line went in to ask and came out saying yeah they already gave out tickets and that's it. So 4 people ahead of me and all the people behind me all left after waiting 30-40 mins. No employee in there came out to notify any of us they sold out. I went ahead and left my input in there instagram and instead of taking accountability or seeing it from our point they decided to state "they've mentioned in their memos that they open at 8 and that they won't start selling till 11:30".Then they stated they stated "they passed out tickets at 9 and they do it for the safety of their staff and so that KIDS (as they typed) don't have to wait in the heat for a KIDS TOY (as they stated). So they can step away but have to be back to claim there ticket spot at 11:30, if they didn't it would go to the next person". So then I responded saying "they could have mentioned a ticket system was being implemented so that none of us are sitting and waiting in the heat like fools, especially with their own KIDS". Now I get it's a KIDS TOY but Friday @11:30am kids are supposed to be at school I would assume cause I stated "my KID at 11:30am is at school learning so I'm here trying to get this for her". They then stated "they will take in the feed back as they do really focus on the safety of their employees" and that was it. So I stated and I'll admit " and the safety of the KIDS" and they blocked me so yeah. Look I'm all for the safety of employees. I wish no harm on anyone especially someone working to make a living, but what about the safety of the people and children standing outside in the heat, who come to spend their money at your store. Shouldn't we be aware of certain important details when it comes to these sales? Seriously though if I did get one I did, if I didn't I didn't simple but do better at detailing a sale especially when there is a heatwave in affect our safety matters too, when we are willing/WANT to spend our money and hours there then somewhere else. If you look at other comments from yelp and instagram others had the same feeling saying it was unorganized and that they didn't know about tickets too and other things. Just take in the feed back and try to improve it for your Christmas drop that's all. Overall I have no negative reviews on the employees or the inside of the store. It's really to who ever thought it was a good idea to leave important details out and to the person who was responding on their instagram page. I came in for zipties & left offended. There was this short old man who looked at us like we were aliens. The cashier wouldn't make eye contact and said "have a day" when we got our receipt. As we walked out the door, the same old man told the cashier "got different in clientele in here right?" While laughing. I def don't recommend coming here if you're a person of color or gay. It's out of character for me to be passionate about a hardware store but I really do love frequenting this location--the employees are always so helpful and the overall vibe is so quaint and personal compared to what you'd typically experience at a big box hardware store. I just had to get my car key alarm battery switched out and not only did Jay help me find the batteries I needed but also took the time to help me replace them. After a few less-than-stellar experiences at another Crown ACE Hardware, I figured I would check out the Fullerton location. Admittedly, I was hesitant to visit this location after reading all the negative reviews, but I was actually pleasantly surprised. The Fullerton location is a hidden gem! Originally opened in the 1950s, Crown ACE Hardware (Fullerton) is one of several "Crown" versions of ACE Hardware in Orange County owned by the same family (as opposed to the "regular" versions of ACE). The Fullerton location is a bit larger than some of the others, is bright & inviting, & the associates (for the most part) are friendly & helpful. They offer not only the typical items you would find at the big-box stores, but also some fun hard-to-find merchandise. With its old-fashioned hometown-type hardware store atmosphere, you will literally feel transported in time...almost as if you just stepped into a Norman Rockwell illustration...in a good way. They offer novelty & old-school candy, snacks, & beverages, a variety of colours of Stanley tumblers (if you're into those), "The Green Eggs" & other BBQ & accessories, gifts, beautiful mailboxes & plaques, & more. On my first visit, one of the friendly associates greeted me & asked if it was my first visit, & shared some interesting history of the store & dates for fun seasonal events that they host. Despite the fact that they were closing in a few minutes, she didn't rush me, but instead said, "...make sure to check out the rear left-hand side of the store...I think you'll love it!" Curious, I made my way there, & she was right! Tucked in a hidden corner of this store, there is an actual "Gold Crown Hallmark!" Upon entry, you feel like you're entering a mini oasis, where they feature cute & fun knick-knacks, candles, greeting cards, home decor, gifts, & more! Seriously...I could literally spend an hour in just this part of the store browsing! I was so enamoured by a "Gold Crown Hallmark" being hidden inside of a hardware store, that I have now nicknamed the area, "My Secret Hideaway." Drove all the way from downtown Los Angeles to get what we needed there and was even priced at a better amount than our local dealer. Walked in to a very clean and super helpful bunch of employees. Treated us with absolute care and explained to us in great detail of every item we were after, how it worked and how to care for it. Definitely was worth the drive and took a few more things home that we oddly found there that we couldn't find at the local Target. Meters lotion! I normally love this store, and go out of my way to shop at this location. My last visit, though, was a disappointment. At checkout, the clerk was consistently frustrated with scanning the items that I had chosen. There was also an odd preoccupation with making the person in line behind me wait too long. I foolishly had not checked my coupons and offers on the app before I got in line, so I was trying to get my purchase to get to a dollar value for one of the offers. Sadly, adding to the purchase seemed to add to the clerk's frustration. Especially since I seemed to choose items that did not easily scan. And, again, the repeated apologies to the person behind me. Clearly, very clearly, I was taking too much time for the employee. I solved the problem by admitting defeat and ending the transaction before I made the limit I was trying to get to. I left the store without my choices, but the person behind me got waited on more quickly. I went to another Ace Hardware location to make the purchase I had originally intended. read more

Came to this ace hardware to get drain covers about a week ago. When I got to the front I was being checked out by a younger guy who resembled Stingy the puppet from Lazy town. He gives me a paper that says if you create a rewards account TODAY you get 10$ off INSTANTLY. So I was excited and started to download the app right then and there. He then proceeds to tell me that it usually takes 24 hours to go through blah blah blah. His coworker standing beside us corrected him and said it would go through right away. So I continued to download the app. Keep in mind that no one was in line at the time. He obviously looked annoyed and wasn't being helpful at all. So I told him I'd pay and come back in to get a refund and repurchase to get the discount. He looked up at me, looking like a total brat, and said, "refund?" I said yes and walked outside so the app finished downloading. Long behold the 10$ coupon came instantly and he was lying because he didn't want to do his job. I walked back in to find him talking about me with his older lady coworker. He walks away to go on his break and I explained to the lady how rude he was and she pays no mind. Fast forward to two days ago I had to go in for some screws and to exchange one of the drain covers for a smaller one. When I walked to the front to checkout he was taking about me AGAIN with his coworker. He proceeds to check me out and makes the whole transaction difficult for no reason. Sucks that now every time I go in I have to be met with this Stingy looking dude who obviously hates his job and doesn't care to be helpful at what's supposed to be a "friendly hardware store." These employees need more to do with their time. This is my first yelp review by the way. He really shouldn't be working in customer service if he doesn't even want to help with something so small. Horrible Customer Service!!! Don't Ever Shop Here! I went in to have a filter measured and replaced....."we don't have that size! I didn't want the same kind, then, oh you'd have to cut it, then, you can't cut it!!!!! I also brought in a Solar Light that stopped working within a month; because I didn't have a Receipt, I couldn't even exchange or get a Credit for that!! Fuck them all. The guy at the front desk was kind. I have gotten pexi-glass cut from an Ace Hardware store before and their website even says that they do acrylic cutting here. However, the guy who came over to help me at the cutting station was suuuuper condescending and treated me like an idiot for thinking they would offer this service. This store is amazing! I went there looking for a Traeger smoker and found exactly what I needed with a little help from "Jay". He was so helpful, took me back in time! This is no Home Depot! Ended up buying a smoker and a pizza oven , and with the suggestion of what I think was the store manager, the tools I need to make a delicious pizza. This location WINS for being the BEST ACE HARDWARE I have ever been in!! It's WAY bigger than our ACE and the gift and housewares department ROCKS! We just stopped in real quick since we needed to pick up a couple parts for a plumbing repair, so I wasn't able to stay too long to browse - so we'll definitely be coming back!! As I was quickly checking out all their housewares and goodies, I met Amber who was really nice and shared a brief history of the store. Not clearest with their return policies. Its a shame that this place can be so great but the customer service has awful. The associated who rang me up gave no warning about their return policy with Yeti upon purchase. I brought it back because it did not meet my needs, but the same associate told me to go through Yeti's website. When I did they turned me to go back to ACE. This is now my 3rd time going to the store. Then on my part, I had forgotten to put back the "owner's manual" back in the bag. So I will have to return for a 4th time. Sad enough, the customer service has not been the best at this hardware store if you read their most recent reviews. Its disappointing to see a place that is meant to do so well, treat other's so poorly. The store is very inviting, it's bright, clean and comfortable. I needed a light bulb and two keys made. As soon as I walked in an employee told me which isle I can find the light bulb and pointed out where to get my key duplicated. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes, if that. Every employee that I encountered was friendly and helpful. Prices seemed reasonable. It was easy to shop. No giant parking lot and store to walk through. I will be back. read more

My husband and I were looking for a specific cabinet hinge that was installed on my mom's kitchen cupboards 20 years ago. Come to find that although there are many with similar features, we could not find this exact one. The hinge on her cabinet door under her sink, broke, so only one was necessary, but once we started this treasure hunt, we soon found it wasn't as simple as we expected it to be. After going to a close by major chain store, I suggested that we go to a hardware store I remember going to with my dad when I was a little girl -- even as a toddler -- we are talking early '60's. No longer are the original stores that once were in DTF, which is disappointing, but Ace is still there for us, as it has been since 1952. Upon entering from their parking lot entrance, a friendly gentleman named Jay greeted us with a smile. He asked us if he could help us find anything in particular and my husband said, yes, and showed him the working hinge he removed from the cabinet door. Jay took us to the aisle where the cabinet hinges were stocked and with our hinge in hand, he began looking for a match. He didn't find one straightaway, but diligently persisted to look. He found one that was a close enough match where it would line up to the same holes our hinge has. By the way, it fit perfectly and no extra finagling to force fit was necessary. I am always impressed with the customer service and knowledge of the folks who work at Ace Hardware in DTF. Sadly, I think folks who aren't used to such small town service don't appreciate it or recognize it when they receive it. Serving your customers shouldn't be a novelty, but it seems to be these days. Thankfully, excellent customer service is a staple at Ace Hardware in DTF. I love their nostalgic area as you enter the store from the back entrance, with old fashioned pop made with pure cane sugar, and their display with old fashioned gum and candy. All such a treat. Along with good service, you can't beat that, especially in a day and age when big boxed stores can be overwhelming that one can feel lost and wandering. Not everyone who works at such stores knows their stuff like they do at Ace in DTF. It's also a "feel good" type of environment. Not rushed. I randomly find myself in this store... usually after dropping by one of the nearby coffee shops... and I'm never disappointed. They have an interesting gift selection, and I just love the Christmas decor they ofter. This time, I ordered merchandise online for pickup at the store. After receiving an email that confirmed that my items were ready for pick-up, I headed to the store and was directed to the Paint Counter. Pick-up went smoothly and all the employees were so kind. I've been in a lot of different hardware stores, mainly Home Depot. The problem with the big box stores is 97% of the employees don't know a damn thing about what you're asking. I just bought a fixer upper in Fullerton and decided to go the this store because of proximity, and we all know one project takes multiple trips to the store to complete. I walked in and immediately was asked if I needed help. Of course me knowing everything lol, I said no thanks. Then someone else asked again. So glad I said yes, then the magic happened. I explained what I was doing and he helped me get everything, and pointed out things I might need so I wouldn't make multiple trips for the one project I was working on. Remember I have a fixer upper that had not one upgrade from 1951 . I've been into the store multiple times, not for the same project, and every time has been an absolute success. This review is strictly on Fullerton Ace Hardware - Craftsman tool lifetime exchange policy. Craftsman has a lifetime guarantee with no proof of purchase required. However, when I brought in a broken Craftsmen ratchet for replacement (not a cash refund), I was told that I would need a receipt. The associate said that I could have bought it from another store, which I suppose could have been true, but should not be relevant as I was there to get a replacement. I ended up going to Lowe's and they swapped it out with no problem. I should note that Ace Hardware in Placentia would have made the exchange with no problem as well, but they did not have the replacement I needed. read more

There has to be a receipt with the broken tool and it has to be the exact same thing to get it replaced. Not like the old days of replacing a broken tool at Sears. In short: UNCOMFORTABLE As soon as I entered, an older male employee asked if he could help me with anything, and I shared that I was just looking. He then asked if I was looking for anything in particular and I said no, just looking (he may not have heard me the first time or didn't believe me). So I walked by about 4 small aisles before I saw him near me, and thought that was weird, but nothing much else of it. Then walked a few more aisles and saw he had followed me. I felt uncomfortable at this point and started looking for the nearest exit, which was actually an emergency exit, so I turned around and stopped one last time to look at valentines gifts, and next thing I knew, he appeared again and I asked if he was following me (which he obviously was) and he said "no, just making sure you're taken care of," but never indicated that while he was following me silently and keeping eyes on me throughout the store. I mean, what would you think and feel?? I felt very uncomfortable and criminalized honestly, (especially because he was looking at me pretty sternly) and I've never felt this way in a store before. Wish I could've gotten a name but I was too uneasy and scared tbh, so I just left right after. Lowkey felt a lil racist. Even left feeling a little shaky tbh. If I could, 0 stars. read more

When asked if I wanted help I politely said no, then was followed to the aisle and persistently asked what I was working on. Only to be talked out of what I originally came for. The staff at this store are EXTREMELY rude. I called in to ask if I arrive at 6 or a little before to pick up something could I still get it and she rudely said that the store closes at 6 pm and will lock their doors at 6pm sharp. I arrive 2 minutes before they close (yes no one likes a last minute shopper) but I was just picking up an item I already paid for. The older gentleman opened the door and got me my item but had attitude with me and as he closed the door reminded me that they close at 6pm. Not really professional in my eyes. This place is great and unfortunately it took me many years of driving by before I actually stopped in. The experience of going here versus the other big hardware stores is night and day in my experience: here it feels like you get much more personalized service (I haven't once visited and not had an employee check to see if I needed help with anything). It really feels like a "small town" hardware store, in the best possible way. In addition to the good service, this place is worth visiting for the unique products they carry. They stock some of your more standard brands and items, but they also carry some really interesting knickknacks that you wouldn't really find at many other places. Because this store is rather small in terms of overall square footage, don't expect to find your really large hardware/construction items here (particularly large building materials; those you'll want to go to Ganahl Lumber or Lowes for). That said, for your smaller items, this is the place to check. EDIT: Also, I've seen some reviews mentioning that some of the employees don't wear PPE, but after coming here pretty regularly after the lockdown started, I haven't see that happen very often. read more
