May 21, 2020 When it comes to do a major remolded on your home, you need someone that can be trusted with one of life's most important transaction. We feel very fortunate to have Fred Toofan and his team guide us through the six months remodeling process. During this time, he was more than a contractor but also becoming a friend. As there are many contractors in the Bay Area, the key for us in a contractor was how they would handle changes from us and how he would handle any mistakes or items we were not happy. During the remodel process, every day and week there are changes and big decision needed to be made. Most of the time, we were making the changes as this was a difficult process being our first time doing a major remodel. Fred was very calm and understanding with each change that was made. He also helped educate us each step of the way. Fred and his team showed up every day a little bit before 8am and went to work. He was able to stay on schedule even though we had a few delays with the city regarding permits. During each permit phase, Fred was able to pass each permit phase on the first inspection (Electrical, Plumbing & Foundation etc) which gave me confidence in his ability and grateful for keeping the schedule. Once he brought in Diane Hoffer, interior designer, everything started to come together. There is so many decisions to be made - hardware, lighting, flooring, paint colors, faucets, sinks, bathrooms tile, counter tops. Either Fred or Diane met us at the stores to helps us pick all of these out. Can't say enough how much that helped us. After six months, we were so happy how the home turned out. Every Room is perfect for us. Even after 5 months being in the home, Nicole and I still look at each and giggle as we can't believe we have such a beautiful home. Thank you Fred for your commitment, patience and guidance with making our dreams come true. Working with Fred over the last year has been a tremendous experience. He helped us navigate through a very difficult process. Fred's greatest strength is his professionalism and ability to listen and respond to the need of his clients. He clearly put our needs above his own at numerous points during the process. We enthusiastically urge you to choose Fred for all your remodel projects, Sincerely, Jay & Nicole Dyer read more

We were fortunate to have Fred/FT Construction as our general contractor for our full house remodel. Fred was very responsive to all our questions and concerns during the project. As this was our first time through any type of project of this size, Fred's guidance and planning for when to purchase items (i.e. flooring, plumbing fixtures, etc.) was critical and kept us on track. Fred was always timely in communication and quick to respond to our text messages. Fred was helpful with suggestions on how improve certain aspects of our project, which we were grateful for since we are so very happy with our new home! There were times during the project when we did not like the outcome of a certain job, however Fred was always open to listening to our concerns and correcting the issue so that we were satisfied. This is a trait that is essential in a general contractor and Fred has this requirement. We would hire Fred again for any future construction needs. read more

FT Construction re-built our 25 year old garage in Palo Alto into an ADU in 2022-23. The ADU Collective provided the architectural and structural plans and helped us get permitted. Fred and his crews took it from there and did all aspects of the project. We love the end result. The project took considerably longer than first estimated; 11 instead of 7 months from demo to final inspection. But delays in construction are also "normal" in our experience. Whenever we felt something wasn't done to our satisfaction Fred made good on what we wanted. If his crew made a mistake he saw that it got fixed. And while the project costs were somewhat higher from the original estimate, this was due almost entirely to the rapid spike in materials costs in the '22-'23 time period. Getting things right was not a change order or additional labor cost. As we complete the re-landscaping of our property in 2024 we are very happy with the work provided by FT Construction. read more

We just had our kitchen remodeled (including a new sewer line)and Fred and his crew did a wonderful job! We felt that the project cost was reasonable. Fred makes a great effort to stick to the project schedule (any delays were due to us making last minute changes in materials and he tried his best to accommodate those changes) and he has his own crew, not subcontractors, so he can be efficient in making the best use of time. The crew are polite, punctual, and keep the work area clean and tidy. His skilled specialists in tiling, electrical, plumbing, and cabinetry pay close attention to detail. They are great at problem solving and implementing changes that we requested. As the project went on we were happy that we felt so comfortable with Fred and his crew and definitely are glad that we chose FT Construction! We would hire them again and recommend them for any house remodel project! read more

FT Construction did a full remodel of our home, which included a garage conversion. He was very professional and worked with us patiently while getting permits, which took significantly longer than initially expected. Once the work began, he made sure there was ample communication regarding details of our project to ensure it looked exactly as we wanted it to. The end result of Fred's hard work looks incredible, particularly the great finishing touches that came with the flat paint and tile work. His team of electricians, painters, builders and flooring installers are all professional, kind and detail-oriented. We would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs to trust a contractor who can do quality work on time, especially when it is a large project. read more

I wholeheartedly recommend Fred and the entire FT Construction team for your next home improvement project. We undertook a major addition to our new home, adding two 16' pocketing glass walls sitting atop new foundation, framing and roofing. Fred was a true partner throughout, always responsive to suggestions while keeping an eye on the budget and finish line, and never compromising on quality. There is no firm I would have rather worked with on such an important project. read more

Fred and his team did a 2.5 bathroom remodel for us. He completed the project in a timely manner, as promised and with a competitive cost estimate. Throughout the project, he communicated with us efficiently and was open to our feedback and change requests. Like every construction project, we inevitably ran into unforeseen issues, but he always made sure the issues were addressed to our satisfaction. Based on my experience, I have recommended him to others on a few occasions for similar remodeling projects. read more

FT Construction - Master shower after remodel in Nov. 2017 - General Contractors Near Me

Fred did a whole house remodel+ addition for our family in Palo Alto in 2020. Short synopsis- incredible contractor, would absolutely hire him again in a heartbeat. Longer story: We signed a contract with Fred in 2018, impressed with the quality of work in his sample projects. He patiently waited for us during a painstakingly slow permitting process (10 months) and literally started demo in 2/2020 as the moving truck was backing out of our driveway. The first few weeks of conversation construction went amazingly well, and then the pandemic started...! Our timing suddenly didn't seem so great. This is where I became truly impressed with Fred and his team. Fred was cool and collected, played by the city's rules, and quickly figured out how to navigate the craziness of changing regulations (construction shut downs due to county rules, then requiring masking, a Covid supervisor etc) and importantly, how to keep the project constantly moving forward. -- As one example- our framing inspection hit a small technical snafu, so Fred got permission from the city to move forward with rough electrical/mechanical/plumbing in the meanwhile. As a result, we were able to pass all 4 components on the same day and didn't lose additional time. I appreciated his respectful manner when speaking to anyone from a city inspector to his employees - I'm sure this helps him get projects done well. Overall, our project was estimated to take 8 months and we moved in after 10 months- only because of delays on the city's side (such as the actual shutting down of construction early in the pandemic, etc). If you are paying attention to our timelines, you'll notice that Fred managed to finish our entire house in the middle of the pandemic in the same amount of time it took to just get the permits through the city pre-pandemic! With regards to budget, we found Fred's estimates to be very fair and reliable. Any changes in the budget were from our own brand new ideas (let's add an attic loft play area! let's add sun tunnels!) and were our choice. Fred also has an incredible sense of ownership in his projects- he really takes pride in his work, and I can tell that his employees do too. The construction site was kept super clean, no fast food or other junk lying around. We got to know his crew very well- he hardly ever used any sub-contractors, so he had great rapport and accountability with his group. This sense of pride has extended even beyond the time of construction- for the inevitable minor issues that have come up after we moved in 5 months ago (for example a slightly loose door handle), Fred has immediately sent his crew back to fix things.  He is still very responsive to our phone calls and texts etc. As a result of our experience, I have highly recommended Fred to people that we like (I respect him too much to send him potential clients that might be difficult to work with!). Hard to imagine being on good terms with a contractor after a huge project during a pandemic, but that's a true testament to Fred and his team. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that we love our home and are so grateful that Fred and his team were with us through this whole process. read more

FT Construction did a major extension and remodeling of our Santa Clara house in 2017. This was a 4th general contractor on our project and a good one that managed to restart and finish the project. Project was rebuilding of about 2000 sq feet from scratch: kitchen, dining, living room, bedroom, two bathrooms, garage, laundry, patio, driveway. FT construction has its own workers specialized in interior. Special credits to their eletrician, plumber and tile installer - they are the best. Subcontractors were mix and match but did a good job too. The owner Fred is a smart guy, easy to communicate, speaks in mutliple languages, daily checks on the project, always on connection responding promptly on phone, sms, email. Compared with three previous we worked with FT Construction is the best. read more

Fred and his team did an outstanding job constructing a new 2 bed 2 bath cottage in Menlo Park. Fred's prices were competitive and he stayed on budget and completed the job on time. When we ran into a few issues during the project (which is par for the course on a new build) Fred and his crew were extremely responsive. Fred always followed up to make sure the problems were resolved to my satisfaction which I always appreciated. They quality of his work was excellent and I have since recommended Fred and FT construction to many of our friends. read more

FT construction did a great job with our home expansion. Fred and his crew worked quickly and the quality of work was excellent. FT Constructions are true professionals. They are trustworthy, dependable & skillful. Their pricing is reasonable and their workmanship is excellent. They did an array of jobs for us. They gutted and replaced a complete bathroom (including fixing water damage to walls and floor), replaced countertops in our kitchen, replaced a busted water heater, installed laminate flooring throughout the house, and painted the inside). Fred Toofan worked well with the city of Campbell,  and was super instrumental with getting the best materials at the best price. We selected and purchased items in Home Depot, as well as other stores, and his team picked them up, and installed them as requested. His team left a clean property when they were done with the work (all debris was hauled away in a timely fashion). When we had a water leak over the weekend, Fred was responsive via text right away. When it was determined the issue can be delayed to Monday, his team arrived first thing on Monday morning and resolved the issue right away. I highly recommend considering FT Construction for your next construction project. I am looking forward to working with them on my future projects. read more

I contracted FT construction to do multiple jobs in my house over the past few years - from small stuff like replacing doors to big jobs like remodeling kitchen and our entire backyard. All I can say is that I am extremely happy with the service, level of professionalism and expertise provided by Fred and his guys. Not to mention that unlike many other contractors these guys actually finish jobs on time (6 weeks for complete kitchen remodel with 140sq ft house extension including wall movements and new wall addition with all permits, new plumbing etc.) I highly recommend FT construction for any kind of job, small or big. read more

FT Construction did a fairly extensive remodel of our home during the first half of 2019. They have a permanent crew, which is a big advantage, so we had people working in our home pretty much on a daily basis except Sundays. For that reason they were able to give us an accurate time frame for the project, and they did finish on time. The crew members are good guys: reliable, respectful, and well mannered. The owner, Fred, was easy to work with. He was always reachable day or night via text message and we were pretty much in constant communication with him. Whenever any problem or issue arose with the project he always dealt with it right away. It has now been over a year since the project was completed, and we are still very satisfied with the way that it turned out. read more

FT Construction remodeled 2 bathrooms for us. They started the project on time, finished on time and made sure to implement all changes that inspectors asked them to implement in order to have our permits issued. FT Construction did a large remodel with new garage addition. I contacted about 10 contractors for bids before selecting FT Construction. I am very selective and want to make sure I get an excellent product that met my budget. Fred went above and beyond to ensure the project was completed to very high standards and while we hit a few bumps a long the way (which was to be expected) he worked with me to ensure I was happy. Myself and my husband were so happy with the work that we added some new scope to the project, which Fred was able to absorb without too much impact on the overall schedule. Fred's crew are all very professional, he has a really good bunch of craftsmen working for him. Fred himself really prides himself on customer satisfaction. I would highly recommend him to any future clients. read more

My "gut job" renovation project in Menlo Park finished in time and under budget. FT Construction delivered stellar result both in terms of customer service and quality of work. They are small enough to have flexibility with unknown issues (such as delay caused by delivering the wrong kind of materials, in my case wrong windows were delivered which cost a delay of three weeks) and large enough to have full-time staff on payroll. They were responsive and solution oriented. I recommend using FT Construction for your next construction project. read more

I worked with FTconstructio to renovate my house and I am happy with their work. I interviewed several contractors and visited their projects beforehand and finally I decided to choose FT for good price and great quality. I rented a place for 6 weeks to get the job done and I always were worried if they could finish the job on time and they did. The other good thing was that they were open to my new ideas. After I moved into the house I found some minors and when I asked them, they fixed it fast and without any extra cost. I feel like they have garanteed their work and its quality. I recommended them to some of my friends are they are satisfied with FTconstruction quality of work as well. read more

We had FT Construction for a couple of projects in our house and we couldn't be happier about the work they did. The team is very professional and extremely trustworthy. Since my wife and I both had to go to work in the mornings, we would leave the house to the team without any worries and we would come back when they were gone. The attention that they give to the details is remarkable and they definitely did the jobs exactly according to what our designs were. Even after the job is done, if something is not exactly to your likings they change it the way you want them, which is great! The kind of customer service before, during and after each of the projects was exactly what we wanted which gave us a lot peace of mind. read more

I have used FT Constructions in 3 projects: my main residence in San Jose, my former investment property in San Jose and a new investment property in Daly City. In all those cases, I found the service to be excellent, flexible and accommodating to my needs. FT Construction took the initiative to find ways to save the cost of repairs. My investment home in San Jose was trashed by the former tenants and in need to very fast repair before selling while the market was hot. I was not disappointed at all.
