The one bathroom in our 1918 house was in serious need of an upgrade. We chose WISE because they would hold my hand through the design and build process. All prior interior work in our house had been done by handyman. I really appreciated the communication from our project manager Marc. He created a WhatsApp chat with me and the incredible designer Jocelyn. They were both consistently responsive to any of my questions or concerns -- and opened my mind to design options. Jocelyn spent time in our home, drafted plans, took me shopping, and sourced all the fixtures. From her spreadsheet I was able to find less expensive options for some items. I appreciated the input and control I had on these expenses. Since we needed to move out, I had a tight timeline for the project -- mid October until Thanksgiving. Marc and the team did their best despite City of San Jose delays with inspections. We were able to move back in before the final inspection. Every member of the team was kind and courteous. Marc also did a great job working with the window vendor that specializes in older homes. I'm rating the experience a 4.5 out of 5 for two reasons. I was disappointed that the medicine cabinet, switch plates, and hooks were initially installed unevenly (it was corrected). I expected more attention to detail. And I was disappointed in the wear & tear that happened on my wood floors as well as the overall dust in my dining room. I was warned that things would get dusty -- but didn't understand the extent and would have packed away more things. WISE offers lots of support with design -- they could also offer as part of their package a full cleaning! I offer this feedback to help others calibrate their expectations. Overall it was a positive experience. I waited several months to post this review until I returned from travel and could see how things were settling after regular use. Overall rating is a 4.5 Project Scope: Full downstairs remodel. Kitchen, bath, media niche, fireplace, paint and flooring. Vendors: Artistic Kitchen (Mike Ryan), HomeWise (Janelle), Bedrosians (Jenny), Rubenstein Supply Wise team: The 3 A's: Aaron, Alex and Allen. Israel was our day to day supervisor. Estimated Time: 3.5-4.5 months. Wise met this timeline. Positives: Demo: Quick and efficient. They had the place cleared out in 2 days. Prior to demo, their team helped us move our large pieces of furniture into our storage pod. I consider this above and beyond helpful. Flexible: As they started the prep for electrical and plumbing, we made changes and add-on's. For any unforeseen issues, they were responsive. Media niche: The team built out the area exactly to my husband's design. The owner dropped by to view the project and gave us an idea on how to build out the space for our TV mount. We are happy with the result. Fire place: The stone ledger was installed by Oliver per the design. The final product is gorgeous. Kudos to Oliver! Bathroom: Although small, the demo process was challenging as we have a concrete subfloor. It felt like they were grinding for days to prep for the shower. Once we selected our tile, their installer (Jesus) helped us with the layout and it came out beautifully. Kitchen: The prep work for the cabinet install, plumbing and electrical was completed in a timely manner. Wise's cabinet installer, David guided the team through the install process. David is meticulous and skillful at his craft. Allen: This was my first large remodel project and I wanted to have a designer to help guide me through the process. Allen came out to meet us and learn about our style choices and helped us with the challenging process of picking a lot of materials. He kept a spreadsheet which we could update ourselves. I had inspiration photos and he collaborated with us to bring it all together. Allen's design drawings gave us true picture of the final product. So much so that we ended up changing our bathroom tile because we didn't like how it looked in the drawings. Allen was patient, helpful, responsive and has a keen eye for design. Areas for Improvement: Communication, Attention to detail, Slowing down. These things came up throughout the project and mostly corrected to our satisfaction. I will list a couple of examples: Flooring installation: We were considering having our floor vendor do the installation but the savings in our Wise bid was not that much and Aaron assured us that his team was experienced with installing engineered hardwood. We asked the team to pick the planks with the least blemishes and lay them in the open areas while the others could be installed under the cabinets or closets. I don't know if there was a language barrier during communication but my husband ended closely watching the team and picking out the planks himself. This took a fair amount of his time and shouldn't have. We also noticed in the front entryway that some of the planks squeaked and flexed. We could not accept this because it was in a high traffic area. The solution they came up with was to drill small holes and inject enough glue so that the planks would not flex. We were nervous about this but figured it would be better than tearing up a portion of the floor and reinstall them. Thankfully, it worked and there is only a tiny hole which is not noticeable. The ovens needed to be wired for 240V but was wired to 120V. This was clear in the oven's instruction manual. It was corrected. We purchased very expensive outlets for our kitchen island and requested that they be installed flush to the panels. My husband even sent a PDF with instructions in WhatsApp to be communicated to the team. Either it never made it to the team, or they didn't follow instructions. We couldn't redo them because the damage to the panels was not acceptable to us. A couple of cabinet doors had the wrong size hole drilled for the handles. I did map out each door with specific handle size. They corrected this at no cost to us. I created a final TODO/correction list after final inspection and they completed everything to our satisfaction. Overall I am excited with the final results, especially with my kitchen. We decided we needed to remodel our kitchen. We have lived in our house for over 40 years. We did a minor remodel in 2000, but it was definitely time to update the kitchen. We did a full remodel, except for the floors which were part of the downstairs hardwood floors. We were concerned about aging in place. It was important to us to have cabinets and drawers that met our needs. We worked with Michael. He was very good about guiding us through the process. It is an intense few weeks picking out cabinets, fixtures, appliances, etc. But after that there are only another hundred or so decisions to be made. We're realistic here. For example, do you want your cabinet handles here or here or someplace else. Once we got started with the remodel, it was a dusty few weeks. However, Juan and his helper, came right in and worked hard. Juan is the kind of person you want to do the hard work of remodeling. He is easy to work with. He wants to make sure that you are satisfied with what is being done. He is competent, kind, efficient. He doesn't slack off. One day when he had finished what he was supposed to get done that day, he looked around to find other things to do before his normal quitting time. They cleaned up after every day's work. He added little touches that make a big difference. Michael was good about checking in with us and with Juan to make sure the project ran smoothly and in a timely fashion. One very smart thing that Wise does is to book the City permit inspections as quickly as possible, and looks for cancellations so that you aren't hanging waiting for the job to go forward because the inspection needs to be done. We had two minor glitches - one a sink arrived damaged and had to be replaced. And the city inspector wanted one type of tape on the duct work and Juan used another kind. But Juan had the kind of tape inspector wanted on hand. Juan retaped the duct with the specified tape. Because Wise had prebooked the follow up inspection, it only delayed the permit by two days instead of the several weeks wait time at the City. After the remodel was completed, we did a thorough inspection of what had been missed. There were only a couple of minor things that could be fixed in a few minutes. But there was one item that was bigger. The wood floors by the sliding doors had part of the finish removed. We thought it might have been partly due to the tape that was put down to protect floors picking up the finish on some sun damaged planks. Wise thought the finish might have been damaged on the sun damaged planks before the tape was put down. However, Michael just said that it would be taken care of and Juan replaced the few planks that were damaged. Wise did not quibble, argue or complain about this. It just did the work to our satisfaction without extra cost. You may be wondering about the cost. Wise Builders won't be the cheapest remodeler you will find. But the attitude of above and beyond is worth the extra cost. We didn't have to worry about the permits, minor change orders, incompetent workmen, delays, etc. When we thought about the whole process, we felt the price was worth it and a good value. read more

Wise did a great job remodeling our guest bathroom. They will assign you a project lead to coordinate all the aspects of the project from design through installation. Allen was our project lead, and he did a great job communicating with us throughout the various stages of the project (about price, scope of work, etc.) and was responsive anytime we had questions or concerns. At the end of the project, we had some concerns with the tiling in the shower and a few other finishing touches. Allen and the rest of the team immediately worked on fixing the issues and did it at no additional cost. Carlos also worked on our project and was fantastic. He's very detail-oriented and patient, and he clearly explained what could and could not be done with the project. I just completed my bathroom remodel for my master and my guest bath. My project manager was Marc. He did a wonderful job in communicating with me. What was going on and what was happening if I had any concerns, he addressed them immediately and make sure that they met my expectations. I would use Wise Builders again and I would request Marc to be my project manager again on any future jobs that I had. He worked really well with our designer Jocelyn, I appreciated having a designer. Having a designer to bounce ideas off have her expertise on fixtures and toilets was amazing. Jocelyn did an excellent job working with me and when my daughter had some changes to this design, she was very receptive to those changes and helped me update the changes in our design The only thing that could have been better is, if the tile supplier had communicated with Marc that the tile for the guest shower floor was backlogged. Marc worked really hard to expedite the tile and was in communication with me along that process. In order to give us options besides waiting for the tile, Jocelyn, our designer gave us an alternative tile. Looking at the tile floor now I like it better than what I had originally chosen. I have done other remodeling projects and I would have to say that working with Marc has probably been one of the easiest remodeling projects that I have done. I don't ever write negative reviews, and it has taken me over 7 years to finally write this one, but that is how strongly I feel about my experience. We hired Wise Builders to redo our two bathrooms after meeting with them and really liking their project managers and the ideas they provided to add to what we already had in mind. The project itself was going so well that we asked them to redo our popcorn ceilings in addition. To be clear, this is not an accusation but a stating of facts: We had to leave the house overnight for this part of the project. In the hustle of that I forgot my wedding ring sitting in the shower and when we returned my wedding ring was no longer there. The workers were in the only people in our house during that time as witnessed by our exterior security cameras. I have not found it since, and yes, I am aware that I should not have forgotten it but it also should not have disappeared. Shortly after the project was finished we noticed substantial cracking in the tile. When I brought it up I was told that was normal veining in the stone but once I was able to provide proof that the cracks were growing larger and were actually cracks, the company agreed to come and redo the shower at their cost which I really appreciated and felt relieved that they would make it right. While redoing it, they discovered it had indeed been installed wrong the first time. I wasn't entirely pleased with the quality of work on the redone shower but at that point I didn't want to make them redo anything yet again and I let it go. My bathroom sink also started cracking almost immediately and the company told me I must have dropped something but I know we did not. The crack continues to grow and I will have to have the sink replaced. In the years since then we continue to have issues in the shower with cracking of tiles and grout, grout falling out, and uneven tiles. At some point I will need to have it redone yet again but definitely by another company. I am grateful that we had insurance to cover the cost of my wedding ring but the fact that it went missing during this time is still very upsetting to me. I wanted to note my experience because I know we hired Wise Builders based on their glowing reviews and since then have heard of other people having issues who told me they wished they knew my experience before hiring them. We continue to have ongoing issues with cracks in the shower which is what led me to finally write a review. I'm including current photos as well. read more

We spent almost six years dreaming about remodeling our kitchen, and this year, we hired Wise Builders to handle it. We could not have been happier! The remodel included (among other things): taking the kitchen down to the studs/subfloor to check for damage, the removal of walls, the building of a pantry and additional storage closet between the kitchen and entryway, the replacement of a window, installation of new cabinets, countertops, flooring, fixtures, and lighting, the replacement of a standard water heater with a tankless water heater and water softener, and the installation of tile on a fireplace (dining room). I couldn't be happier with what Solomon and the team he's built has done on my half of our two-bathroom remodel! It wasn't an easy job with our old old subfloor, removing a cast iron bath fixed to the walls, keeping our oak cabinets (the tallest part going from floor to ceiling), and my abnormal choice of shower valves. The quartz counter is beautiful! The tiling is configured just the way I wanted! My grab bars are all in the right place! The suggestions made for the electrical switches and sensors have also be great too; they were something I hadn't really thought much about, but not worrying about forgetting to turn off a fan or light is going to be great! Solomon's suggestion of paint was also just right! And there's so much more to talk about positively! The project has also moved quickly! Wise Builders just completed a bathroom remodel for my house. We had mold in the shower floor pan and had to replace the whole shower. Solomon was the Wise PM that I worked with. He was great! During the initial consult he suggested we remove a pocket door and merge the bathroom into a single room which was a great idea. He invited me to join him at a the tile and fittings vendors and made a bunch of really great recommendations to get great options within our price range. He stayed in contact through out the process. Once construction started he texted me nearly daily and visited my house every few days to track progress. Solomon was also able to get the city inspections done very quickly and kept the project from having delays related to waiting for inspections. The construction crew that Wise used was also great. They were quick, took care to clean up at the end of every day, and did high quality work. All inspections passed easily on the first try. They did an excellent job and went above and beyond when we ran into some snags during the process (some laminate was very difficult to remove from our steps and they offered an epoxy solution for us instead, which turned out great.) Michele is a wonderful person to work with and she is very knowledgeable about cabinets and kitchens in general. Trying to visualize a kitchen with only a small sample of wood is difficult but Michele could create online mockup's to help. This allowed us to change colors and layouts easily so we could decide what we wanted our kitchen to look like. Part of kitchen design is checking the sizes and tolerances to make sure the appliances and cabinets fit and don't interfere with each other. Michele did a great job of verifying the details an we did not have any issues during the construction phase. In the end everything worked as expected and the cabinets, countertops, backsplash and floors are beautiful. I highly recommend Michele because she pays attention to the details that allow the kitchen to be functional and beautiful. read more

The work came out great, and Michele made sure that deadlines were met. Shortly after posting this review, Selene reached out to me directly via phone and we chatted briefly, in which she apologized for the miscommunication and drop in conversation, stating that she was working to find me the perfect team to visit and somehow just didn't communicate it out to me. I appreciated her effort in correcting this by sending a text and calling, and she was intent on ensuring i knew this was just a mishap, and not a norm. ___ 2 Stars - I was really enamored with Wise Builders when I first started looking for a company to work with for my full home remodel. It was a pretty big project and I wanted someone with a fabulous reputation, which is what I felt Wise Builders had based on Google and Yelp reviews, and their beautiful project photos. I put out a request, and got an answer fairly quickly via Yelp so we switched over to e-mail. Selene, who I think may be the office manager or something, reached out really politely for details of the project. Keep in mind that this was the very first remodeling company I was speaking with, and I didn't know too much yet. I sent a long detailed message and asked at the very end if it's possible to hire a family friend general contractor to do the work, but that I understood if that wasn't how things were done. Selene responded with a one liner saying we didn't seem like a good fit since they only take on complete projects. I didn't know that, so I apologized and quickly wrote back saying it was just a curiosity and could we please still have a consultation, and she said okay. After that, there were some pretty big gaps in communication (once from me because I was traveling for work). Selene asked if I could meet her the following week and I asked if they were available on weekends, and she didn't respond for ONE. MONTH. LOL. So, I wrote back to follow up - no apology, no acknowledgement of not responding - she just asked if I was available Sunday 11/19 or 11/26 and I excitedly responded within an hour saying 11/19 worked perfectly and asked what time worked for her team, and she never responded, they never showed up, or emailed to let me know they weren't coming. I am sorely disappointed, as this company was my first choice and I never got to meet with them, but I suppose the poor communication was already an indication that perhaps the project would not go well. We are nearly completed with remodeling our master bathroom with Wise Builders and so far, everything has exceeded our expectations. Our project manager Marc has been super helpful and organized. Wise Builders is remodeling our master bathroom and we couldn't be more happy. Allen Shochat the project manager and Tony Pham the foreman on the project both have been very helpful and responsive to our requests. Wise recommended Allen from Sofiov Design to design our new bathroom and we love the design he created for us. Remodels can be stressful but the Wise team minimized the hassle inherent in a complex project like this. We used Wise for a bathroom and kitchen remodel. These kinds of projects can be stressful, given that these are arguably the most essential rooms in a house. The key differentiator in making the experience smoother is a top tier project manager, which Wise provided us via Mike Gupol. Mike was by our side every step of the way, from tile and fixture selection, managing city permits, to comparison shopping to stay within budget. The work crew was excellent. They were respectful, friendly, clean, and detail oriented, and showed up on time, every time. I would absolutely hire Wise Builders for future jobs. I tried to make an appointment for the consultation, but they changed it a few times and eventually ignored my response. It is clear that they carefully choose clients who are likely to give them good reviews. Therefore, the business should not be trusted regardless of its good reviews. read more

We were looking to remodel both bathrooms in our home, on a tight timeline and budget. We reached out to 5+ remodeling companies and ended up going with Wise Builders, in part because Michael (our project manager) was so thorough during the proposal process. We did end up going a week or so over timeline, but what we really appreciated was the transparency and urgency with which Michael communicated with us every step of the way. We changed our minds a few times, and he pivoted quickly. He also caught a lot of things that we didn't even notice in the walk throughs. Super responsive, dependable -- overall, we were really glad we went with Wise Builders. We also didn't have a designer, since we had strong perspectives on what we were going for. But where we didn't, Michael stepped in with helpful expertise that sped things along. The end results were even better than we had envisioned! My wife and I decided it was time for a master bath remodel, so we contacted a half dozen contractors that had good recommendations. After meeting with each of them, getting quotes and evaluating first impressions, we decided to go with Wise Builders. Nathan was our project manager, and I have to say he was great. He answered every question, and was super responsive to email and WhatsApp communications. Mauro was our site foreman, and both he and his crew were very professional and did exceptional work. They arrived on time every day and did a thorough cleanup at the end of each work day. As in every job, unexpected issues came up, but Nathan was very easy to work with and handled each issue with courtesy and professionalism. Wise was very flexible and fair when any issue came up that required a change from the initial plan. Wise has a designer who helped us shop for our finish accessories and to offer advice. After everything was selected, we were provided with detailed drawings so that there were no surprises. In the end, we are very pleased with how our project turned out.
