Change is very difficult. It's also costly. And scary even. This company took the sting out of it. They aren't the cheapest out there, but once you see the work they do, it's almost a bargain. I did my research and wanted to find something in the middle- quality without excess. I found these guys. My project manager, Elijah was a total professional and also happens to be a real nice human being. His crew is even better (sorry, Eli). They listened and wanted my input. I grew to trust them quickly and started asking for their opinions about various things along the way to help me decide what to do. As stressful at it is to have people in your house everyday making lots of noise for weeks, I'm actually going to miss these guys. I will definitely hire them in future. I already have new projects in mind, and once the money is there, I'll pick up the phone and get to see my new friends again. read more

We contracted Prime Design & Build to remodel two bathrooms, a laundry room, a staircase, and to install hardwood flooring. Overall, the project went well, and we're happy with the final results. Bryan, our foreman, was a strong asset to the project. Even though he was managing multiple jobs at the same time, his responsiveness and willingness to go out of his way to address our concerns made a big difference. Because we were home throughout the process, we were able to catch issues early and communicate them directly to Bryan, who consistently followed through to resolve them. What Went Well: * The tile and flooring subcontractors were excellent - their craftsmanship and attention to detail truly stood out. * Bryan, our foreman, was responsive to texts and phone calls, listened to our concerns, and made sure they were addressed. He even designed a bi-fold closet door for us, and helped pick up all the material to build it. * Bryan also took the initiative to handle several unfinished items himself, which we really appreciated. * The post-build cleaners were top-notch and left the space in pristine condition. * Throughout the project, everyone we interacted with was professional, courteous, and conscientious. There were no conflicts or issues, which made the experience comfortable for us. Areas for Improvement: * The timeline was a pain point. While we were originally told the project would take 6-8 weeks, it ended up stretching to 12 weeks. * The design process fell short of expectations. Because Prime's in-house designers weren't available, our design work was outsourced. We only received a full design package for the master bathroom. As a result, we ended up creating our own renderings for the other rooms to help communicate our vision to the team. That said, we were very happy with the design and material selections for the master bathroom they did complete. We just wish the same level of attention and design support had been provided for the rest of the project. * At times, resource availability was limited, likely due to workers being assigned to multiple jobs. This led to workflow inefficiencies and delays. Toward the end of our renovation, our foreman Bryan had to personally step in to complete several tasks, such as installing faucets, shelving, and baseboards. He managed to get it done in between site visits and meetings, which we appreciated, but it also highlighted a lack of available crew to close out the project. Despite these few challenges, the quality of the work met our expectations. We appreciated the team's effort and the final outcome. read more

We hired Prime Design for a home remodel project, but unfortunately the experience has been very disappointing. There have been multiple unresolved issues with the quality of work and follow-through. One example is an LED light that continues to flicker. It has been more than six months, with many calls and text messages, but the issue still has not been fixed. Another example is damage to our garage cabinet, where a hole was created during the work. We are still waiting for this to be repaired as well. Overall, the lack of timely resolution and poor communication after the project has been extremely frustrating. read more

I hired Prime to renovate my kitchen - countertops, backsplash, cabinets, electrical, freezer, etc. They also helped install a new bidet toilet for me. Overall the experience was very good; Elijah and Bryan were super friendly and responsive. Eli was very patient and accommodating as we discussed several different potential change orders, from new windows to painting, to other misc. things that popped up. Bryan Luna was especially a pleasure to work with. His attention to detail and proactivity to solve any little thing I mentioned was definitely the highlight of working with Prime. Their contracted electrician, Hector, was great as well. I also think they did a great job building out a cabinet to fit our freezer next to the matching fridge. Their master carpenter managed to salvage our existing wood to make it match perfectly. Definitely better than what I'd expect from even a carpentry specialty contractor. I will mention that it wasn't without some snags. Prime deals in volume so they're very busy. I think because I had delays in sourcing a freezer I ended up not getting a dedicated project manager for some time. We had timeline issues made worse with holidays. This caused cascading delays which inevitably pushed back my move in date a few weeks. When I finally did get a new project manager, they ghosted me (later on I found out they had a family emergency). Eli had to step in again to help. Another thing is that their pricing is quite opaque. The estimate will break down prices by milestones, but they repeated told me that it's not a valuation of the milestone itself. This made it nigh impossible to understand if I wanted to contract out specific pieces of the project (e.g. flooring). Design was OK. I felt that the designer was very busy. Sometimes very responsive (5min replies), sometimes not responsive at all (no reply). I wish I had a better, more thorough back-and-forth session about the intricacies of the design. But we made do. Ultimately, the designer made a render and helped point us to some vendors, but from there we had to make our own selection alone (cabinets, handles, pendant lights, faucets, etc.). I did appreciate her presence when we picked out countertops, though. All in all, I think this was a 4.5 star job, but I'm rounding to 5 because of Eli and Bryan :) read more

We worked with Ilay (project manager) and Juan (foreman) on our recent home remodel (both bathrooms, kitchen, and fireplace). Overall, we are quite satisfied. Both Ilay and Juan were responsive to our questions and were able to address and fix issues that cropped up along the way. And special thanks to Juan for taking the time out of his busy day to make sure he answered all our questions about what should happen next, etc., whenever we saw him! And Ilay for responding to messages even during what is typically offline hours. The tradesmen/contractors they sent were overall quite good; we appreciated the finishing touches and how they checked in with us to make sure everything was okay with us before they left. I also appreciated that Prime was able to help with all the permitting that went into our project, which meant the whole process was a bit less stressful overall. And since Prime also provided a designer, we had help with selecting materials and figuring out what to order. The finished design is pretty much exactly what we expected, which is the best you can really ask for when you're going into construction. The crew cleaned up nicely after they were done--and they even sent house cleaners after who were also great! read more

We met with a few different firms to help us with a remodel of our new home. The home showed about 40 years of wear with only basic upgrades to address the wear. We found Prime Design to offer us the best value for our money. What started with a fairly extensive remodel (kitchen, floors, interior paint, walk-in closet installation, stair upgrade, extensive electrical upgrade, two sliding door installations, and garage clean-up, and more!) soon became much more as we discovered issues with the house than we first found (new roof and decking, garage framing, two bathroom remodels). Ilay and his team (shout out to Juan) worked with us to reach satisfactory conclusions at reasonable prices throughout the process. He also worked quickly! Despite the addition of quite a bit of work, we completed the project in 12 weeks (originally projected at 6 weeks with the original scope). Ilay was very responsive to our inquiries (via text and phone) throughout the process and he worked to resolve problems as quickly as possible. There was a lot of anxiety throughout the process and Ilay very patiently walked us through our options each step of the way. In the end, we were very happy with their work and we look forward to living in our forever home! My wife and I highly recommend Ilay and his team for your extensive and not-so-extensive remodeling projects. read more

If you ever need a contractor that is reliable, pays attention to details, helps you decide the best way to repair/build yard projects cost effectively, please contact Eli Benyakov! We needed our backyard fence that is approximately 120 feet demolished and rebuilt. It was on a sloping hill and needed the posts to be buried and cemented at least 2ft deep for stability before the redwood fence boards can be nailed. They used 3 rows of nails on the cross boards for strength. The fence will last at least 30 years! They used pressure treated redwood in constructing the 20 ' and 29' retaining walls. The last project was constructing a concrete stairway. They used rebar and wood for the form. This was back breaking work! The results speak for itself; excellent!! I truly appreciate the professionalism and dedication of Eli to get the project completed within a couple of weeks and his stellar work crew. He was hands on from start to finish stopping by every couple of days to monitor the progress. Even with the Change of Order work (building the additional 29' retaining wall) he kept the cost within our budget. This was an absolute plus being we are seniors and no longer in the workforce. In The future, we plan to go back to Eli at PDB for our expansion project! Thank you Eli for all your help and suggestions. It was truly appreciated! By the way, a couple of neighbors have been by to see the completed projects and were impressed. I'm hoping they will keep you in mind. Thank you once again!!! read more

We considered a couple bids and went with Prime due to all the positive reviews here on Yelp and also recommendations from family. We are not disappointed and cost was not out of line. Our project was not complicated as we were limited in space and didn't want to take down a wall. So we didn't really have any good opportunities to move things. So we basically took to original kitchen layout and kept it but updated everything. We added a counter over looking our family room which turned out to be a great add and also a nice bench with storage underneath. We also had Prime change our flooring through out the lower level and painted most of the rooms. Daniel Z. and Ilay (Project Management) were great to work with. They went out of their way to address all of our concerns and slight tweaks along the way. All of the craftsman they sent out were courteous and professional. I was particularly happy that there was no nickel and diming as tweaks came. I would recommend they and may use them again for future project. read more

We reached out to Prime Design and Build for a bathroom remodel and worked with Ethan. He was helpful, attentive, and very responsive. He also worked efficiently--our first meeting covered the same level of detail in 30 minutes that other GCs took an hour for, which we appreciated. In the end, we went with another option, but Prime Design and Build remained a top contender throughout. There was never any high-pressure selling; instead, Ethan did everything he could to adjust the proposal to fit our budget. If you're looking for a GC, I'd recommend reaching out to them for a proposal. read more

I had the best experience with Prime Design & Build. The contractors sat with me and helped me design my bathroom to make it completely waterproof, stylish, modern and open. It was such a small space, but they used large tile to make it appear larger and bright. The contractors were so friendly, easy to communicate with and provided open dialogue with a text chain where we could continue to discuss the project at each stage. They were very hard working, efficient and kept their deadlines. They were willing to work while I was at work using a lock box. They helped me cut costs by using products from wholesale dealers. When I remodel my 2nd bathroom, Prime Design & Build will be my contractor. read more

It was great working with Prime Design and Build, they are a design and build firm and I could really tell that they new what they were doing from the beginning. They built for us an addition of 800 sqf and completely remodeled the house- we now have a brand new kitchen, bathrooms, a amazing fireplace with quartzite slabs and a lot more! We have expensive tastes but they new exactly how to work with all the materials we purchased- their team is amazing and their workmanship is outstanding! I reached out to 4 contractors when doing research to who I would use to remodel and add on to my home. Joseph from Prime Design and Build was communicative and clear about the whole process. Did a big siding project with Noah and his team. Building work is pricey in the area, but from all the quotes I obtained Noah's was the best value proposition: no frills, no unquoted add ons, no need to get other contractors on-site for part of the project. Super happy with how the project went overall. The team showed up when they were expected to and communication through Noah was excellent. Noah was easy going, super efficient and above all, flexible. He gave us some time to rethink part of the project when we couldn't make up our mind on the spot and didn't freak out when we asked for some alterations... On a project this size, there is always going to be minor outstanding issues at the end of the project, but resolving them was as easy as taking a few photos and sending them to Noah over email or whatsapp, and for his crew to turn up and address within the next few days and resolve promptly. Noah and his team didn't stop until every single item was fully addressed. Will definitely consider Prime design and build for other projects in the future. read more

I've been trying to get our bathroom and kitchen done for a few months. A lot of research, I interviewed 3 companies and my brother-in-law checked a few kitchen shops in the area. I felt super comfortable with Prime Design & Build because they were able to provide us a very easy set up, by helping us figure out the layout, designing, and labor schedule for both kitchen and bathroom in advance. That by itself made everything super easy. The labor was a bit noisy but they always make sure it is coordinated right and everything went pretty smooth, our plumbing was a bit challenging and it extended the job by an extra few days. Other than that, I'm very happy! I do recommend them. read more

I was in need of a bathroom remodel after a plumbing issue. I found Prime Design on Yelp. Their pricing was very competitive and unlike other companies, they followed up, which made choosing a company an easy decision. I enjoyed working with Joseph and appreciated his humor and frankness. The end result looks fantastic! read more

We recently got our kitchen and family room redone by Prime. We read a lot of good reviews online and liked talking with Allen and his team, so we decided to go with them. We're really happy we did. Noah kept us in the loop really well during the work, just like other reviews said he would. That's one of the reasons we chose Prime. We really like our new solid wood cabinets and thick quartz countertops. The room looks so open, clean, and welcoming now. We really enjoyed working with Prime Design & Build on our home renovation. We added 650 sqf upstairs and remodeled our living space. We had to move out for four months, but it was worth it. It was starting to turn a little cool outside and the holidays were coming up, so what's the first thing that came to mind? Let's REMODEL the KITCHEN! We chose Prime Design and Build for our kitchen remodel. Noah and his team were great; they did everything we asked for. Even when we added a couple of items to the project, they were patient and took them in stride. The communication between the PM Luis, Noah, and I was really good. Any time there was a bit of a hiccup, as there always is in projects of this size, we were all able to talk about it and get it resolved the right way and move on. Noah was always the beacon of confidence and calm. And the team of guys working for him was first-rate. Crown molding is always difficult, and the crown looks great around our cabinets and kitchen. We were able to get new cabinets in our pantry/utility area as well as an arch put in between two adjacent rooms for a reasonable cost including the kitchen. Overall, we're very happy with Prime Design and Build and would recommend them for anybody wanting quality workmanship and a fair price. We love the new kitchen, and we would certainly use them again for any other remodel project. read more

Highly recommended! Daniel at Prime Design & Build was a pleasure to work with. He is very good with the clients, management of the various teams and creating a great work environment. He's super competent and full of good ideas and help. I was very skeptical of contractors, and really just felt misled by them in the past. Daniel single-handedly turned my opinion around by being honest, trustworthy, extremely competent, pleasant and helpful. We had a fantastic experience with Daniel as the lead. The company owners also had some good suggestions and I thought that was nice of them since it was extra consideration on their behalf. We had everything done, inside and out to prepare our house for sale, including painting, flooring, refinishing cabinets and floors, new laminate, roof fix, LED cans put in, new fans, etc. The house looks beautiful and very professionally done and I'm quite picky. Prime did a great job on our remodel project, working within our budget and scheduling issues to create a really nice space for us in what was an old and underutilized part of the house. Noah and his crew worked with us, offering alternatives to keep us within budget while getting the overall result we were looking for. The crew started on time, was responsive to our concerns in the process, and consulted us every step of the way. Just finished kitchen remodel with Prime Design & Build. Shout out to Ilay (Project Manager), Alexandra (Designer), George (Evergreen Custom Cabinets) and Juan (construction Manager) and their crew. From start to finish, every member of the team was professional and worked very well together to get me a beautiful kitchen. The project was a complete demolition of existing kitchen, including two non-load bearing walls, custom cabinets, marble counter top, plumbing, electrical, all new lighting in Kitchen and adjoining dining room and Den, refinishing of existing hardwood floor (necessary repair included) of all 3 rooms, texturing and painting of ceilings and walls of all 3 rooms. Completed 2 days before Christmas (thank you all for making that happen), the kitchen functioned beautifully with everyone gathered around the kitchen as is our family holiday ritual. Demolition to completion took around 7 weeks - a bit longer than my expectation, but very close to their initial estimate. Fortunately, there were no construction surprises. The only hiccup was in the beginning of the project - the permit process was long and arduous - took over 2 months - after first attempt at permit failed (?), Alexandra had to measure my entire house, every room, hallways, upstairs, downstairs to submit the building plan to the city. Not sure why that happened, but we got it done in the end. Prime Design (with Ilay pleading my case) as well as George of Everygreen Custom Cabinets, with help from Alexandra, worked with me to bring the project within the budget which was hugely important and helpful. So glad we went with the custom cabinets - love them - just makes the kitchen. Ilay and Juan managed all moving parts and craftsmen to get the project done. Flexibility is the key. LOVE my kitchen! read more

I would give this company 10 stars if I could :) This company with Daniel as the general contractor exceeded my exceptions in all ways. In all my life (which now has been a long life), I have never had a general contractor or any service provider who cared and helped me so much. Daniel is a one of a kind and I knew this from my first encounter with him. He fought for me to get the best possible price and I have never seen this before either. He came the day I called within hours and had my quote ready and all written up within the day I first called the company. He is one of the most sincere, kindest, helpful and professional workers I have ever encountered and a true joy to work with. Whenever I told him my vision, he came through with a product that matched my vision (i.e., I explained to him the counter top I was looking for and he found it!). When I had issues with the previous company to do the remediation part (namely, Servpro South West San Jose). He actually contacted them and reassured me more than once that all would work out and it always did as I had his help and support. This company does top quality work and they do what they say they will do and truly care what the customer wants and provides that to the customer. I highly recommend this company and will be having them do any future remodeling projects. It is not that easy to find companies that truly care for their customer and their customer's vision and treat their customer with respect, dignity, common courtesy, professionalism and provide them with top quality products and work. read more
