We recently remodeled a family home with Rojas Construction this summer, putting in an entirely new kitchen, remodeling the bathrooms, putting in new windows & doors, revamped exterior stucco, updated electrical, finished garage, etc. Rudy and his team were incredible partners in the process and we couldn't have accomplished what we set out to do without them. They finished the job on time and on budget, with excellent communication and really good project management on their part to keep things moving along smoothly, including all interactions with the city and required permitting. The subs they've enlisted (and have apparently worked with for many years) are excellent craftsmen in each of their specialty areas - tiling, countertops, hardwood floors, painting, electrical, etc. Overall, the quality of the work and attention to detail was top notch and when there were issues to resolve, Rudy and team always had a can-do attitude, helpful suggestions on how to attack the problem, and they fixed everything until we were happy with the results. A realtor friend, who helped us with a once-over look at the house when things were done, complimented the workmanship as well. Special kudos go to Oliver on Rudy's team who was so patient with our requests, is an amazing builder in his own right, and a terrific communicator. Rudy Rojas Construction did a superb job on our small bath remodel, completely redoing everything from the bare walls. Total work time was 6 weeks (had to be done before Thanksgiving!). Each specialized crew did high quality work. Special shout-out to the tile crew that incorporated hand-painted tiles from Mexico as the accent in the wall and shower recesses. I'm more than delighted with the results, and their fixed price bid was the best as well. read more

So it took me a long time to pull the trigger and hire a construction company to do some remodeling of my home. I've always had difficulties with contractors and poor work. But I saw Rojas Construction on my block remodel, three homes. So I was able to see the workers coming every day and the quality of work that they were doing. I had met with several other contractors, but they were very dismissive or weren't interested in the job or just never responded to me. Rudy was willing to work with me on my project and even gave me some great suggestions. The number one thing I look for in hiring someone is communication. We know that in life things can go off the rails, but it's how you handle it which is important to me. Whenever I called or texted Rudy he always responded very quickly. His workers were always on time and so nice and polite and helpful. Their work is top notch and worth every penny. Rojas construction did major work on our duplex this year - turning a downstairs den into a bedroom and updating the kitchen. Then, Rojas turned our back garage / shed into a one bedroom, one bath separate rental unit. They handled permitting, drafting, and end to end construction. Rudy and his crew completed the major earthquake upgrade at our hillside home in Belmont in 2019. The scope was extensive, including not just concrete repairs, crawlspace reinforcement and structural strengthening but also the installation of new exterior sidings, insulation, exterior lightings, roofing and gutters, tankless water heater. It took 3-4 crew members over three months to complete the project. And we're in a home that's safer and more pleasing to the eyes. When we approached Rudy for consultation and estimate, we already had the engineering plans prepared by our structural engineer. Our first impression was that Rudy knew how to read plans and he was able to come up with estimates based on the plans. In comparison, some other contractors either couldn't read the plans or had to be guided by a list of tasks summarized by ourselves. Rudy was also able to come up with a detailed, itemized estimate - his quote was not the cheapest but competitive. And as we found out later, he tried to cover everything on the plan so that there wouldn't be too many surprises in the form of change orders. Perhaps more importantly, Rudy was willing to "educate" us about how he would do the work and invited us to a couple of his current job sites to observe exactly how those work was being performed. This showed his confidence in this work. And before we made the final decision, we also got Rudy to be interviewed by our engineer and he demonstrated his knowledge and experience during the discussion. When the real work started, we were also happy to see that Rudy's crew was experienced in their work and respectful throughout the project. Rudy checked in regularly to tell us what they're doing right now and they're planning to do in the coming days. He also took extra care to protect our house whenever there was big rain coming in, even though it meant he had to spend extra time wrapping the house up. We had our engineering coming out for unexpected situations and special inspections, and Rudy was able to communicate with the engineer smoothly. Also, we passed all of our city inspections without issue. Now no project is going to run perfectly according to the plan. During our project, we found some dry rot at the corners of our house when the walls were opened up. Rudy's first reaction was not that he needed to create a change order to capture the extra labor and material cost; rather, he asked his crew to fix them straightaway. It's one of the instances in our project where he demonstrated his own mantra: customers come first. Last but not the least, Rudy stood by his work and regarded us as his lifetime customer. When we recently removed a section of our patio steps, we turned to Rudy for fixing and patching the last remaining part of our old exterior wall. He was really responsive and sent two crew members the next day after his evaluation, and they were able to complete the repair and some other odd jobs in a matter of two days. We highly recommend Rudy for his customer-first approach, his project experience and his easy-going character. We're glad that we now have a general contractor who has our best interest in mind and we can trust for our future needs. read more

We built our home in San Carlos in 1977. After all these years, the bridge driveway showed severe signs of dryrot around the perimeter. So, got one estimate that was through the roof. Had seen some of Rudy Rojas' projects around town and thought to give him a call for an estimate. Rudy was prompt for the first appointment and within a few days we worked out an agreeable contract to replace the entire driveway, including all the glu-lam beams. Rudy's crew always showed up on time, were very courteous, worked full days and accomodated our ability to get in and out of the house. The work was first class and the building inspector agreed. Cheap, Untrustworthy, Poor Communicator. His price is competitive but be prepared to have unskilled workers at your job site. TLDR: Be very careful around this guy. He is what nightmare stories about construction projects are based on. No on thinks they're going to be unlucky enough to be one of "those people", but yet here I am trying to share my experience and hoping to educate others on what working with Rudy and Rojas Construction was like. I hired him for a full remodel of our kitchen. He failed the drywall inspection, didn't check his crew's work, didn't finish installing cabinets (which we stupidly paid in full). When I confronted him about the poor quality of work, he crossed his arms and said his guy has "15 years of experience" (15 years of crappy cabinet installation experience is experience ... I guess). His last words to me as he stomped out of my house in a tantrum was "you guys are the cheapest people", then proceeded to break my fence latch on his way out. His reading skills are probably very mediocre at best (we tried to have him look over installation instructions for Panoramic Doors we purchased, and he refused). Sadly, I'm currently filing a complaint against Rojas Construction for abandonment of work and property damage with the Department of Consumer Affairs Contractors State License Board. For a list of contractors, I did eventually use (and did amazing jobs), please see end of this post. The job was to 1. Drywall Kitchen 2. Install Tri-fold windows and doors 3. Cut channel in cement for doors 4. Install cabinets. All this was quoted for 10K (labour only). Stupid us we paid in full halfway through the job. 1. The kitchen DRYWALL did not pass inspection, luckily I already had another crew working on the house while the inspector was there and fixed all his errors. 2. We purchased super cool folding windows and doors. They're simple enough to install but require a quick 15 minute read up on their instruction's manual. Specifically, it called for plastic shims. We asked Rudy to familiarize himself with the instructions. When we followed up with him a week before the scheduled installation time and asked him some simple questions on it, he failed all of them. We voiced our frustration and his solution to our problem was ... he didn't want to install them. Great... now we had to find another contractor willing to come out just to install them. Luckily, the manufacture had a recommendation who did a fantastic job. He was another $1350 added to our expense list. 3. CABINETS - Rudy then proceeded to install the cabinets BEFORE even taping up the drywall which is highly unusual and not common practice. When we asked him about it, his response was "it's behind the cabinets, you can't see it". Then we asked if this was his kitchen would he have done the same in which he replied "no", my jaw dropped at his answer. The lack of respect and care he's given into our first home started giving me migranes. We love watching "This Old House" and now we have a running joke in the family about Rudy starring in a show called "This Ain't My House". Just trying to find humor in this dark pit of despair that Rudy has dug us all in. After a couple weeks of delay, he told us the cabinets were finally done. At first glance it looked great - cabinets looked great and appeared to be level. We didn't give it another thought. 2 weeks later we moved back into the house and I started giving the kitchen a good clean and that's when I started noticing all the cut corners and silly mistakes. His men cut a hole in the back of my cabinets and then proceeded to put the piece back with two screws (see pics) - his response was again "it's in the back, you don't see it". Rudy was referred to me by a trusted friend, so I hired him to repair dry rot which included the rebuild of a deck, repairs of an inside room affected by the dry rot and replacing siding on the back of the house. The job was completed professionally and in a timely manner. I had Rojas Construction replace a main entry door. I selected a pre-hung solid wood door from Home Depot. They picked-up the door and did the installation in about a half day.
