Before we started our bathroom remodel project, we heard a lot of stories about similar projects taking forever, with delays and unreliable contractors. Not with Patkowski Construction! Wojtek is the most organized person I know, juggling the scheduling of multiple crews at all times (even previously unplanned - in the middle of the job we decided to also upgrade the AC system - he just said "no problem", handled getting the estimates and then scheduling and it did not cause any delay) to stay true to his original time estimate. In doing so he does not take any shortcuts, but rather puts an extra effort in order to do the job right. A small example - he would come on Sunday to put all of the paper down on the floors, so that when the crew came Monday morning, they could start working right away without making a mess. Wojciech renovated two tiny bathrooms for us to the highest quality. Imagine a 10' by 10' square, divided into two not-very-useful bathrooms, now converted to a tiny guest bathroom and a splendid ensuite with enormous shower. Brought in by our usual contractor (Farbex), Wojciech led the demo (great, quick, tidy crew), the new framing he did himself, supervised the plumbing, handled the rewiring and addition of four new circuits to the panel, put in fresh thermal insulation, supervised the drywall (calling back the subcontractor to tweak the work to our satisfaction), did all the tiling himself (fabulous job!), supervised the cabinet work, the addition of vents, called back the quartz fitters having agreed their work was not the best, then wrapped up with fitting the porcelain and plumbing hardware and electrical outlets and sockets. All of this with constant good humor despite long hours and the job's motto, "It's always something!" (We bought him a t-shirt with this on it as a souvenir!) Overall outcome: excellent. How can I tell it was excellent? In a previous life, I was a qualified teacher of painting and decorating in London, at the very top of the game, working on the best domestic decorating jobs. This always entailed making good after other trades, listening to clients dealing with problems or solutions brought by others, which all gave me a very clear idea of what constitutes good building work. The first time was a major repair and renovation of a bathroom in which the old shower pan had not been built properly and had been leaking. The bathroom is beautiful, Voytek reworked it wonderfully. Recently hired him again to take out our dated faux stone fireplace and faux stone wall to open up under the stairs and add more room in the house. His sheet rock work, including skimming and texturing, are top notch. Blends in with the old like they were done at the same time. His tile work and plumbing are also some of the best. Top rating for excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail. Worked long days to ensure job was completed. Entire crew had good communication with us about installation issues. We had Unique Tile headed by Wojciech Patkowski (AKA Voytek) tile our front and rear porches at our house in Menlo Park in 2020. The area was around 550sf. Although it seemed like an easy job because it was over fresh cement on new construction, it was actually quite difficult as the grade needed to ensure adequate drainage when the porches are hosed down. Voytek and his crew showed up early each morning around 7AM and stayed almost every night until 7pm. The job stretched for a few extra days because the tiling was more difficult than expected due to the inconsistent cement base. Voytek ensured that his whole crew were there every day and he was onsite for most of the time as well. Unique Tile did a completely professional job on the tile work. All tiles were the same level with a consistent grout line. The stair edging we used, Schluter TREP-E/EK Stair Nosing was solidly mounted and consistent. Bottom line: if you are considering major tiling jobs Unique Tile does expert work with a great attention to detail. I would highly recommend them. I am writing this review in hopes of helping people who want or need to remodel or renovate parts of all of their home. I had my second master bath remodeled by Patkowski Builders. Voytek is the owner and main builder, but has workers to assist, if needed. My needs were to have a new toilet installed, replace the marble floor, replace the marble tile in the shower with a more contemporary Porcelain til12" x 24" tile, replace the shower fixtures, and most importantly install a full-length seat. As an older person, it is essential to have one in the shower. I was given a very thorough and fair-priced estimate, with a realistic timetable for completion. It is really nice to have the owner of the company doing almost all of the work., instead of workers who have to communicate with managers or owners before completing any work. as i mentioned, Voytek , completed 95% of the work, but if he does not have an expertise in that particular task, he will bring someone that does have an expertise in that area. Replacing the glass around my shower. Otherwise, Voytek completed all other work. Every step in the process, I was informed of not only what was to be done, but also what problems might arise, because of previous work, wear and tear, and options to consider, because of the existing structure. All work was completed as specified. I had that shower renovated that shower about 15 years ago, but Voytek went the extra mile to fortify and protect the entire shower from any possible future water damage. Overall, the work was excellent and the tile work was especially good. As Voytek is doing his work you notice how meticulous he is-it's as if he was working on his own personal bathroom. Wojciech and his staff are amazing. My wife found his business on line and scheduled an estimate. Wojciech came a few days later and check the work we were doing in our kitchen. Not only did he gives us a very exact estimate but he pointed out a few problems that other works workers had performed. He referred one carpenter to fix the work that the other carpenters had caused. Once the kitchen was ready for Wojciech he and his staff did an amazing job. He is very easy to work with and very accomplished. We liked his work so much we had him do our fire place also. Voytek did three projects for us. The first two was a herringbone wainscot in our bathroom as well as the floor and the backsplash in our kitchen where we replaced small tile with large (12" x 24") tile. I would describe Voytek as a perfectionist with a fantastic understanding of tile and what to do to get the right look. For the herringbone in the bathroom he worked very closely with his team and ultimately it was a lot of very detailed cuts to get the perfect lines. With the kitchen, he recommended we start by centering the tile to the sink and then working out from there. Ultimately this proved to be more complex with a lot of difficult cuts for him but the look is fantastic. We did a follow on project with an accent wall, again using large format tile. Again, he worked from a center line out, did a great job projecting the total required material and was able to recommend the best approach and material to deal with the corners where the accent wall wraps around... and he fixed our gate for our fence. :-) I highly recommend Voytek and will use him again without question. His work is exceptional and I'm looking for more excuses to put in new tile but have to get my wife on board first. read more

The prior contractor (whose contractor's license I am now seeking to have revoked) did such an awful job that the tiles in my shower were falling out. Literally, falling off the wall. My husband and I worked with Voytek on tiling two bathrooms, and installing backsplash for the kitchen. Voytek was amazing to work with and we can't recommend him enough. One of the most impressive things about Voytek is his attention to detail. He would carefully line up and center the tiles whether it's for shower wall or bathroom floor. He really takes the whole room's layout into consideration and creates symmetry that is pleasing to the eye. Voytek really believes in doing thorough and high quality preparation as well. He doesn't cut corner anywhere. He did a lot of the work himself and would rather take a little longer than to compromise quality, which is exactly what we wanted. The end result was that our super cheap tiles ($1.8/sqft) look like a million bucks with Voytek's workmanship. For our kitchen, my husband and I didn't know better and purchased a particularly difficult-to-install backsplash. It was way harder than the type of work Voytek originally quoted us for. He only charged a small increase in fees and the additional time he put in it was worth far more than the charge. Not only does the backsplash we chose have a lot of pieces of various irregular sizes, it has both glass and metal in it. So it takes a special saw just to cut them. Voytek totally nailed the job and I've received so many compliments on our backsplash. Voytek is also just a very nice person. My husband and I were doing a huge remodeling project and towards the end, there were some small things we needed help with. Voytek charged us very reasonable small fees to help us and saved us a lot of trouble from finding a separate contractor to finish off the small jobs. He also helped us a lot in general, from moving heavy appliances to giving suggestions on our problems. In fact, he gave us the idea to use a barn door for a small closet near our front entrance so it wouldn't interfere with our front entrance. Over all, we really enjoyed working with Voytek. Voytek did an excellent job installing new floor tile in our indoor patio. Our patio was originally built as an outdoor patio next to our house with four unconnected concrete slabs for a floor. The previous owners of our house enclosed the outdoor patio to make it indoors and tiled over the concrete slabs. Over the years the slabs shifted with respect to each other, which caused the old tile to crack badly, allowing rain water and insects to get into the house. We interviewed three tile setters. Voytek was the only tile setter who proposed a reasonable, logical solution to our problem. Voytek removed the old tile, filed in the cracks in the old concrete, laid a new continuous layer of concrete with rebar and chicken wire over the old concrete slabs, and installed a waterproof and flexible uncoupling polyethylene membrane on top of the new concrete. He then laid the new porcelain tile on the membrane, grouted, and added baseboards. He did all of that work for a reasonable price in 6 working days. The new tile looks beautiful, and we have a high degree of confidence that it will last for years without cracking. read more

I could write a really long review but instead, I'll tell you what you want to know. How much do they cost? Their quote was right down the middle with others and won't try to screw you. How is the quality of their work? Excellent quality and attention to detail. For example, they laid two different kitchen tiles (one cement, one zellige) that required pre-soaking, back buttering, etc and they did a great job. The cement tile was also busy-busy and they got everything aligned over a 15 foot length and around corners. Are they trustworthy and reliable? Voytek is the man. He's certainly funny but responds quickly for quotes and is frequently onsite with his workers to ensure they stay on track. Mario lead the crew well, is easy to work with and hard working. Voytek and his assistant Tony just finished a small bathroom with subway tile on the walls and wood plank porcelain on the floor. Start to finish took 4 days. Their price was close to other 3 quotes we got for the job. I am also in the trades and appreciate the little things. What made me go with Voytek was that he came out to give a quote and caught a big condition on my wall that needed to be fixed. This is key. Another tile guy would eventually catch it and fix it, but then that would delay the job and cost an extra few hundred bucks. So I called the drywall co out to fix their mistake at no charge. I appreciated that attention to detail and honesty. Speaking of detail he worked with the cheap tile that I provided, made it work like only a professional could. Voytek did a fantastic job installing our kitchen tile and backsplash. He also replaced the drywall behind our kitchen sink and made it waterproof, since the previous contractor did such a poor job. He is a really hard worker and has the eye. We had a somewhat complicated backsplash - two different tiles, plus a border tile, for the main area, and we ordered two sets of handmade tiles that needed to be fitted into a design we created. The handmade tiles were not only different sizes from each other, but also different from the surrounding main tile; also, both tiles were thicker than the surrounding tile. We showed him the approximate area on the wall and laid the tiles out on the table in the design we wanted. We asked that the whole backslash be equidistant on all sides, surrounded by a border tile. Voytek slightly changed the size of the rectangle we had marked on the wall so that the distance from edge to handmade tiles were all equal, as we requested, and he made all the tiles flush. The result was just what we had asked for and looks great. To finish the job, he stayed until after 9pm and he still had another job to go to. Voytek is hard working, a perfectionist, a highly skilled craftsman who takes pride in his work, and has integrity. And his price was fair to boot. I have complete confidence that whatever issues arise in the installation of tile, he has a solution. He's getting his General Contractor license, and we hope to hire him to do more work for us. We had a difficult problem, an exterior study that had moisture infiltration from below through capillary action. The soil engineer suggested that we tear out the entire existing floor and put pebbles and sand below a new floor to avoid the moisture, and then have the new floor re-tiled. This would have cost a small fortune, made a huge mess, and taken quite a while. Voytek looked at it and suggested that we level the floor, apply a serious moisture barrier, and then tile over that with porcelain tile. The porcelain alone would probably have prevented the moisture from rising, but the moisture barrier is an extra precaution. This was not an inexpensive solution, but it cost much less than the demolition and reconstruction that had been recommended. It now looks beautiful, because Voytek and his crew -- Mario and Carlos -- are perfectionists. They work hard from morning till night and are totally detail-oriented -- every little detail is noticed and fixed. They don't leave anything to chance, the way some contractors do. We are very happy with the outcome and would recommend them to anyone. read more

Can't really find a better word to describe. (I usually only read reviews and never really write reviews, but this time I decided it needs some extra effort on my side) Voytek was Awesome, Fantastic, Friendly and etc. We had water flooding in our Laundry Room and water restoration required us to break through the tiles so we hard to redo the tiles. Voytek was able to help us out while we were on a tight schedule. My wife was expecting within 2 weeks so it was a really tough timeline but he was willing to help us out. He did a great job of being upfront on the cost, which was reasonable and made sure that all the details are taken care of, cleaning up everything and etc. Whenever I need to do something that has to do anything with Tiles, I will go back to him + would recommend to many other people as well. read more
