Jeff Davis is very knowledgeable and patient in explaining things to homeowners. We had a tricky floor that wasn't flat and wasn't level. The front door was especially tricky because it was installed too low by someone else. He did some grinding on the high spots and used leveling compound on other areas and even managed to make things work around the door. The hardwood floors he installed are gorgeous and you would never know what a disaster we had started with. He is on the job himself much of the time supervising his employee and they both have positive attitudes and really care about craftsmanship. He charges a fair price and at the end he found that the square footage was a little less than either of us had measured so the bill was a little less. This is the second time we've used Jeff and his team to do our floors and once again we're thrilled with the results! We recently bought a new home and one of the very first things that needed to be done was to refinish the flooring. We had worked with Jeff in the past and knew that's exactly who we would entrust our new home to. We wanted to completely refinish the floors, including the staircase. We told Jeff what kinds of stain colors we were thinking, he walked us through the different types of stains and the pros and cons of each one. We picked 3 to try out, so he sanded a spot and put down testers of three we asked for and then 2 that he had that could be close as well. However, after sanding that first part, he let us know that the underlying hardwood looked great, and instead of using a colored seal we might want to think about just finishing the floors without the coloring and after seeing the testers and the original flooring, we definitely agreed! Wow, I'm not sure if I can express in this review how grateful I am for Jeff and his amazing skills. We recently had a dishwasher fail in our house. When it came time to pull out the old unit, we discovered that the dishwasher had been installed directly on our concrete slab foundation, and then plywood and hardwood flooring were installed around it. The old dishwasher was essentially trapped in place. Our only options were to somehow try and lift our 18-foot granite countertop without breaking it, or cut out some of the hardwood floor so that the old unit could be removed. I'm so glad I reached out to Jeff! He was an excellent communicator who took the time to visit our home, assess the situation, and brainstorm a solution. He ultimately decided to use a precision saw to surgically remove some sections of hardwood flooring. It was just enough to pull the old dishwasher out and slide the new unit in. If being a hardwood floor ninja wasn't enough, Jeff also helped me install the new appliance...something that exceeded my expectations. Once the new unit was installed, Jeff reinstalled the previously removed flooring with so much precision that you would never know that it was removed in the first place. After fives years of abuse, the Girls finally noticed the carpet they destroyed in their bedrooms and asked (demanded incessantly) to have it replaced. We knew that if we got carpet again, it would get ruined again because Girls will be Girls, so we decided to install flooring. Quick search on Yelp and Davis floors has only five star reviews. My experiences with businesses like that are generally positive, so we set up a time to get an evaluation. Jeff came over, fully masked, and he is a gentleman and a professional. He had a lot of ideas about what type of flooring to consider, and he was fully aware of all the options. He quickly took measurements and we discussed the potential scheduling and logistics. We weren't certain which samples to go with, he left some samples for us at the shop and we picked them up and tested them ourselves (this really helped with color matching). After we picked a flooring, he sent a quote that was very reasonably priced. Availability was tough, they have a lot of jobs (you'll see for a good reason) and you can only do so much work at once. The good news for our job was that it was relatively quick (two days for three rooms) and we were moved up in the calendar by almost a month. We were able to accomodate his revised calendar and the crew showed up. This group was impressive. All were masked up, and they did the carpet removal and floor install precisely and quickly. They checked with us for any install questions (flooring orientation etc.) and they didn't mind my frequent checks on their progress (I've learned the hard way to 'trust yet verify' frequently with contractors). At the conclusion of the job, I found a couple of very minor things (I'm picky) and they fixed them quickly with no complaint. And again, the price was very reasonable. There are times when some contractors are borderline recommendable, but the Davis Floors team was so efficient and service oriented that I can give them my highest recommendation. read more

We used Jeff to sand and refinish the oak floors in our new house. Jeff was responsive via email/phone and was able to arrange a time to come see the house to give a quote. The quote was delivered promptly via email and was competitively priced vs other quotes that we received. I also appreciated that Jeff pointed out he would recommend one more coat of finish, but had excluded it to be more competitive on price. We decided to go with Jeff based on the positive reviews and the process was very smooth. We gave a deposit for product cost only and Jeff's team started, and ended, work exactly on time. The most helpful thing Jeff did was, on the first day of sanding, let us look at a few different finish samples to decide what we wanted to use for the full set of floors. That really allowed us to see how the floor would look given our rooms/lighting and make the right decision. Jeff and his team are AMAZING! Of all the companies I contacted for this project, he was the only one who did not balk when I said the total project size was about 700sq ft, or that we were having someone else do the demo... nor did he ever push products he carries in his shop. I had to get HOA approval so I also needed a SOW and copies of insurance to turn into the board, and Jeff provided these without question -- even though it was not a guarantee that we would get approved, and that he'd get to do the work. Jeff was diligent about communicating everything with us. From the first walk through, he pointed things out we wouldn't have even thought of. Jeff updated our stairs, hallway, and office from carpet to wood floors. His work quality is simply superb and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend him and would use him again! Davis Flooring installed carpet on the upper level and steps of our home through Floor Traders. In a years time there were wrinkles (lines going across the floor of one of the bedrooms and the hall at the top of the steps). We contacted Floor Traders who had Davis Floors come out, they kicked stretched the carpet. During the next months, more wrinkles stared appearing in each bedroom and in the hall. We contacted Floor Traders again and the manager came out, he said that even though the installation warranty had expired they would contact Davis Flooring again and have someone call us. It's been a year now and no call from Davis Flooring. Carpet is a major investment and I can't believe that in a years time we would have this kind of problem, especially considering he quality of carpet and padding we purchased. We hired Jeff Davis to replace all the old, creaky, and majorly scratched-up hardwood floor through half of our our home in Belmont. He was very friendly and knowledgeable, knew all the pros and cons of why I might want to pick this flooring or that flooring, and found us some great new bamboo floors. Over the course of a couple days, Jeff and his guys tore out the old floor, fixed 95% of the creaking in the sub-floor, and installed the new bamboo flooring for us. It made such a huge difference in our home, and we were very pleased with Jeff's work. They took a lot of care to make sure that the new floors looked absolutely pristine; they even used some fancy hover-machine to float the fridge back into place in the kitchen! If I had more flooring to be replaced, I would definitely go straight to Davis Floors, but I can already tell that Jeff's work will probably last longer than I'll live here! read more

Our job included tearing down old carpets on the whole second floor, dismantling some shelving, leveling the floor (there was some weird bump), installing a layer of plywood and luxury vinyl plank on top throughout the second floor, and fixing some minor things. Davis Floors installed about 2000 sq. ft. of flooring in a new-construction home for us in 2013, and in summary, Jeff Davis and his crew are professional, they really know flooring, and are great to work with. THE WORK: Jeff responded to our quote inquiry in a timely manner, did a site visit and took measurements himself, gave us a quote in a timely manner, and worked around the many delays we encountered due to the builder & other sub-contractors. He always made it clear when he and his crew would be working our site. They also did a beautiful job of positioning the flooring. ONE DETAIL WISH: they put flooring on a cover for a crawlspace, but it doesn't fit cleanly. That said, it's in a closet, and we're not the kind of people to be bothered much by that (but if you are, just request extra attention to similar tasks). LISTEN TO JEFF: We also debated whether we needed a sound-deadening underlayment, which Jeff recommended. He described the factors involved, but left the decision to us. We wanted to save money and time and had been told by another contractor that it's really the nails that create the creaking, so we shouldn't need underlayment (we used pre-finished flooring [so, no nails]). So we decided to skip it. Now having lived in the house, we realize that although underlayment doesn't prevent creaks per se, it goes a very long way in preventing the sound from traveling. So while we wish Jeff pushed us more on that choice, we definitely attribute the final decision to ourselves. In short, I would say, listen to Jeff. :) ON PRICE: We initially thought Davis Floors was a bit pricey, but we got a quote from another installer (the one who semi-misinformed us about the underlayment) and his was higher, and used a much cheaper flooring product. I would consider Davis priced well for the high-quality work they do. We've recommended Davis to friends already, and would use them again if we ever need flooring work. read more

My husband and I have used Davis Floors two times and we would never use anyone else to do our floors. Jeff Davis is the owner and he is not only a very nice person, he is super knowledgeable and honest. We installed laminate floors in our condo a few years ago. We had picked out a product from Costco to use and asked him to install it. He could have easily told us not to use it and go with something he had, which we would have done. But he was honest and said the product we wanted to buy at Costco was good stuff and he would install it. We were doing some extensive remodeling and dealing with lots of contractors at the time. He was one of the only contractors that started on time and ended on time! Then just recently, we had Davis Floors sand, re-stain, and refinish real hardwood floors in a 2000+ sq ft house that we were putting on the market. He did such an excellent job that our Realtor wants to use him, and she has worked with many floor people getting houses ready to sell during her career. Excellent Work! I called Jeff of Davis floors to see about repairing a shoddy jo done on the installation of my Pergo floors done by another contractor. He was timely, professional and efficient. After assessing what he thought needed to be done, considering I did not want to redo the whole floor if possible, he came up with a plan. Even though he had a busy schedule he came to my place and showed me samples. He was also good at picking the right color and material. I was referred to Jeff from a neighbor on Nextdoor and not only is he professional and knowledgable, he's extremely kind. I was in a bad situation after plumbing issues left our floor severely damaged and he was quick to help. He was able to diagnose the problem and identify the exact make and model of our wood within minutes of entering our home. The insurance company's lab later verified that his findings were correct (only after testing the wood). Great experience; I recommend Jeff and Davis Floors without reservation. We worked with Jeff and his team (Jeff's twin brother and a childhood friend) on a very small job in our new home -- we had removed built-in cabinetry in a bedroom and discovered that the hardwood floors have been installed around the cabinets. We worked with Davis Floors to clean up the raw edges and install new boards to match the rest of the room (we had extra boards so the materials were pre-selected). I was impressed from the beginning with Jeff's customer service; he was a prompt communicator via phone and email, treated us well even though the job was incredibly small for them, and gave us a reasonable price.
