Sam came out to measure and gave me an accurate estimate. Betty was incredibly patient; she pulled out sample after sample for me to look at, ordered samples mailed to me at home, and never lost her smile. I have used AF for many years for many projects before the current owners took over. Patrick ( original owner) was detailed, fair & did a good job. That was until he decided to sell to the current owners & he pretty much stopped caring. I had the misfortune of getting work done as the business was changing hands. I had wood steps redone & replaced my kitchen floor with what was supposed to be water resistant vinyl plank flooring. The installation was not great, (dents in frig etc) & the the vinyl started to come up along the edges of the planks within two years in spite of my diligence in keeping it dry. I called Sam to look at it to get it replaced or redone. I did not expect it to be comped, done for free or anything like that, but I did expect him to work with me. He saw the work on the steps & the kitchen & immediately started making excuses- I fired all those guys- Those were Patrick's people etc. with no attempt to work with me to repair the kitchen. He kept repeating that he fired those guys & has new crews. There was no attempt to make it right, to try and fix or replace the damage. He clear didn't want to be bothered & blew me off. Well it's been a few years & my floors which should have lasted 20 years, haven't made it. At seven years, I'm going to need to replace them again thanks to poor workmanship & & an owner that does not stand behind the work his company does. When you buy a business, you buy the goodwill as well as the guarantees. You follow up. I bought during the transition so I was screwed but it says something about the integrity of the owner, that even though he acknowledged the horrible workmanship, he made no effort to make it right or work with me. It was a huge amount of money, not sure I can afford to start over but I do know that it won't be with Sam & Absolute Flooring. read more

Sorry to slam a local business, but I have to share a most unpleasant experience. Absolute Flooring refinished my living room floor and installed kitchen and dining room flooring. That work was fine. While it was underway, we asked them to add 4 stairs and a short hallway. Big mistake not asking for the price for this small additional amount of work. The invoice came back for even more than the price of the entire living room! I should have sensed that the owner would take it as an opportunity pay his non-working crew during the pandemic. The charge for that small area was EIGHT (8!) TIMES other quotes, both online and by other local contractors. (My contractor convinced them to bring it down a little, but the price was still outrageous.) Plus, the work Absolute Flooring did was just "fair", as the stairs barely looked different than what had existed, and the workers damaged the adjoining sides of the walls, and I had to patch and repaint those areas. I contacted this vendor but received no satisfaction. I cannot recommend this vendor. read more

Just like choosing paint, it turns out that choosing flooring can drive you crazy with indecision. I owe a special thanks to Betty, who was endlessly patient with me as I stared for hours at similar wood samples, trying to make a decision. She hauled sample after sample up and down the stairs for me, kept a straight face as I debated the differences between two identical samples, and then repeated the process with the carpet. I wanted to work with a local business and choosing Absolute made a big difference. Sam knew the other contractors I was working with at the time, and he was flexible and super helpful in coordinating schedules with them, including last minute changes. Incompetent, irresponsible, dishonest, and surly! AVOID! This company installed wood flooring when we did a major remodel. We had multiple problems due to their incompetence. This was the only subcontractor that was a problem for us. We paid premium prices but ended up with a completely botched installation that they took no responsibility for. A complete nightmare. Their basic working premise seems to be to hire some cheap temporary labor to do the job and then blame the customer when the quality of the installation is poor. Stay far away! The large number of filtered reviews here on Yelp also speaks to the owner's lack of integrity. Several of the other unfiltered 5 star reviews are plants by Half Moon Bay business owners in exchange for positive reviews from this business owner. read more

Terrible customer service! I live in a condo and our floors were being refinished due to some water damage from our common area windows. The HOA was responsible for the payment and selected Absolute Flooring. They would not accept a check from the HOA. Instead, they wanted the check from me and the HOA could reimburse me later. Fine. They completed the floors on a Wednesday. By Friday (2 days later) they threatened to put a mechanics lien on my property. What??? In addition, the reason for the delay was because they would not let me mail in the payment. I had to coordinate to meet one of their employees to give them the check at my house or drive to Half Moon Bay and drop the check off. I have two small kids and I work full time. I don't have time to do that. To make matters worse, their cheap laborer damaged my wall and cracked my kitchen door and I still have not gotten reimbursed for that. Definitely stay away. read more

This company has very poor customer service. Installation of laminate and refinishing hard wood flooring came out nicely. Their crew caused damage to the ceiling by leaving six marks on a freshly painted ceiling. The kitchen cabinets were also newly painted and someone from their crew spilled coffee down the face of three cabinet doors. And in the process of refinishing the flooring they splattered stain on All of the baseboards through out the house in which i had to repaint them All. I contacted the Company in writing and I have not received a response. It seems to me when paying for a service that my home should be left in the same or better condition, not worse. And if they would have taken the time to tape off the baseboards this could have been avoided and if their workers cause extra damages and the company owner doesn't even respond? I recently purchased a home that had flooring installed by Absolute Flooring -- the new wood floor was mixed with older carpeting -- I wanted the wood flooring to be consistent through the whole house. I was also in the process of having other work done, kitchen refurbished, fireplace redone among other work. Patrick came and looked at what needed to be done and working with the builder doing the kitchen/fireplace work agreed upon a strategy. The work began and the team from Absolute Floors was fantastic -- they showed up on time, worked hard, were friendly plus they cleaned up after each day. Patrick stopped by several times a day for quality check and to make sure everything was on schedule. After the kitchen and fireplace renovation was completed Absolute Floor team came back and finished the agreed flooring touch up work and the floor looked beautiful with my new cabinets There were two problems that were resolved; 1st) several of the pieces of older wood in the kitchen that was surrounded by new wood was different color. it took a while to fix because of the differences in colors but Patrick found wood in the right color and replaced the area. 2nd) a water leak from master bathroom 3 days before thanksgiving flooded both kitchen and master bedroom-- yikes -- fortunately Patrick was able to find more wood with matching color. I really liked the way the different teams, the flooring and building folks, worked together as one to resolve the problem and have my kitchen ready by the Tuesday evening so I could begin cooking Wednesday. I can't believe these other reviews. In my 5 months of dealing with the crew at Absolute Flooring - I was amazed at the promptness and courtesy extended to us. We bought a home in HMB in January - Through a loan program that had us add a remodel to the mortgage - So we had to pick contractors rather quickly . #1 Flooring - We chose Absolute Flooring at the recommendation of our Real Estate Agent. We were able to take home floor samples for days at a time (Ok - I did keep them longer that anticipated - and they didn't complain) I must have come into the store 6-8 times - Looking at carpet, changing my mind, getting new samples - changing my mind. Renee was always very helpful and very patient. I was a new homeowner and had mucho questions. We ended up getting the Hardwood floors refinished 1st and then the carpets replaced. Holy cow! They are amazing! They are flawless. We had also had the windows replaced and when the pulled out the kitchen sliders 1 week after the floors were done - The boards seemed to slightly pull apart - As soon as I mentioned that Patrick stopped on by the day after we moved in. Let me just talk about the guys who did the labor - OUTSTANDING - sweet guys - The guy doing the hardwood refinishing "Leo" and I forget the other guys name were great guys and completely respectful. We had knocked a wall down and there was a gap between the areas being refinished and carpeted - You cannot even see the transition and it was a 3/4 in difference to begin with. The carpet guys were insane - they finished in no time. The carpet was meticulously tucked in around door edges and the guys were really professional about seams. They even asked where I wanted them and gave me suggestions on what would look better. I will have to say that when I called Patrick about a few concerns, I also showed him a few squeak under the carpet in 2 places. They will go ahead and fix it. I also had to mention that there was a vinyl floor in the kitchen that we were unable to replace at this time that bumped up the newly refinished hardwoods and they guys made a custom transition that is out of this world that wasn't in the plan. I really appreciate the level of customer service, the amount of professionalism, the patience and the overall experience. I would happily recommend them to anyone. The only thing to make sure you read is your contract - they gave us great price and really worked with our budget. One thing that I thought we had ordered the moisture resistant carpet pad but we didn't and I should have read my contract after the revisions - In order to get the price point we were comfortable with - we had to give up the special carpet pad and when it was installed it wasn't the one I thought we had ordered. My husband and I have now used Absolute Flooring for two large jobs. We had an emergency need to replace all of the carpeting in our three story - 3,000 square ft house ASAP. After their office manager stayed late to meet with us after work hours and recommended the carpeting and pad based on our described needs - Patrick and his team installed all of the carpet in all of the rooms and two flights of stairs within the week. The installation work looks great three months later - carpet looks great and I can't speak highly enough of Patrick or his team. They always arrived on time, were very respectful and professional and even helped us out with moving a few pieces of larger furniture (with agreed upon small fee). We would not even consider going to anyone else - on the coast or over the hill. Follow Up Review: we also had severe damage to our hardwood flooring - Patrick planned out a strategy to replace the badly damaged flooring, sand and refinish all of the old/new flooring and ensure it all matched and looked perfect. Again his team did an outstanding job - the sanding process really was nearly completely dust free - they took great care to drape plastic to minimize any dust. The wood floors never looked so good and we cannot be happier again with the quality, professional service PLUS - Patrick actually saved us a lot of money as we were prepared to replace all of the flooring and he managed to save most of it. read more

The first time that we used them was for refinishing of hardwood floors throughout the house that our daughter rents from us. Two years ago my wife and I decided to buy our first place.. We bought a fixer upper, we had to do lots of work to make it our home. The floors were a mess; there was carpet, laminate, hardwood floors and tile, not very nice or appealing. Enter Absolute Flooring... I got their name from a friend of mine who had been a very satisfied customer. From the time we went to their showroom to the time the work was finalized, the service Absolut Flooring provided us from the get-go was first class. Our house has specific flooring requirements and Absolut flooring was very knowledgeable about our needs, their customer service was awesome and the work was done on time, on budget and we couldn't be happier with our floors. Their installers are very professional and very attentive to detail and most importantly, very clean and careful with our belongings. We recently purchased a two-story house with older carpeting and a limited amount of oak hardwood flooring. Patrick and his crew took out the old carpeting and installed oak hardwood throughout, and refinished the older floor so that the finish would be consistent with the new install. We also had Absolute install a beautiful natural wool carpet runner on the stairway and as a matching area rug in the hallway above the stairs. It all turned out beautifully. The installation crews were very competent and pleasant, and showed up on time. There were some glitches along the way, as there always seem to be with contracting jobs, but they were resolved relatively painlessly, and with my husband and me feeling like we got a fair deal and responsive customer service, with a contractor able to meet our tight timeframe. Absolute's showroom manager, Sandra, is very friendly and helpful, and let us keep carpet samples to consider with paint colors, match furniture, etc. As a side note, the no-loop natural wool carpeting we installed seems to be pretty resistant to our cat's scratching efforts (aargh), and stains, so far. We also just sold our previous home and had Absolute refinish the older oak hardwood floor and install new, relatively inexpensive carpeting prior to sale. They were able to turn the job around quickly even though they were super busy, and it looked fantastic. I understand that Absolute is redoing the wood floors (or portions of them) in the house at Filoli Gardens -- that tells you that they really know what they are doing! How can I sum up Patrick and his crews effectively... PROFESSIONAL! I have known Patrick for a long time, but never had the need to have floors refinished, so when we moved and HATED our carpet, I called to have him come out for an estimate. He showed up on time, and indicated I would have my estimate the next day, which I did! When his crew showed up, there were introductions, and his crew chief asked all the right questions, and got to work. They did stain samples for us to choose, and even discussed days we would need to be out in order to keep the air movement down to end up with the best finish. We had several stains and missing boards on our existing floors, which were taken care of quickly, and at a very fair price. They even dovetailed trim boards around the room that were not there on one wall to keep consistency - something I had even missed when they pulled the carpet! Are his guys CLEAN? Every day, sweeping, vacuuming, and organizing their tools... like professionals! It was so nice to go over and see the progress, and peek in to see clean, organized materials and tools! Walking into our house when it was done was breathtaking. Everything was finished to perfection! Patrick spent time with us to discuss care and cleaning as well! We were so pleased, we called him back to finish our family room, hall and son's room 3 weeks later - this room had NO hardwoods, and everything had to be laid down. His crew had the undaunting task of matching the wood, as well as stain color, which they pulled off without a hitch! It is like living in a totally different home! I cannot express how much I would recommend Patrick. My father-in-law is using him to refinish his floors now, and I will keep giving his name out. His crews are that good! read more

I am honored to write a review about Patrick and his team at Absolute Flooring. My real estate agent referred me to Patrick for my home in Half Moon Bay. Upon purchasing the home I decided I needed to re-sand and stain both levels of my home (Brazilian Cherry wood) with some detail trim. The prior owner had 2 large dogs that scratched the "heck" out of the wood floors. In addition, I needed the stair case ripped out as it was cheap plywood with carpeting up the middle and the top step was too narrow. Patrick studied the problem with one of his guys and they rebuilt me a staircase in Brazilian cherry wood with beautiful detail and resolved the top step issue (a big problem noted as well by the Seller and their RE agent). Sanding and re-staining the 2 levels of flooring came out wonderful and my friends have commented on how beautiful everything now looks. I also used Absolute to re-carpet 3 bedrooms with 2 different beautiful wool wall to wall rugs...same in 2 bedrooms and a higher grade in the Master bedroom. For the office I purchased carpet elsewhere which they installed (not every company offers every brand/design). Same with some linoleum tiles which they installed in the laundry room. I had a tight deadline so that I could move in. To make it a bit more challenging, I had painters with whom Patrick coordinated due to my tight schedule. I could not be more complimentary about the quality of the workmanship and the beautiful layout of the carpets to minimize seams showing as much as possible. I even had one of his team members come out to repair a stain (shoe polish on the rug) which I did a horrible job of trying to remove from a plush woven wool carpet. The workmen also cleaned up daily at the conclusion of their work day and all projects were completed in a thorough and professional manner with excellent workmanship and pride in their attention to detail. I am an extremely satisfied customer. I also pay my invoices on time and when due as I feel a buyer also has a responsibility to be professional. You get back what you put into a business relationship. The upfront focus on all aspects jointly is important in the overall success of any project. Patrick and his team are top quality and excellent to work with. This place is it! We recently bought a townhome in HMB that needed all the floors redone. We priced a couple of different flooring companies and decided to go with Absolute Flooring because their prices were reasonable and we wanted to stick with a small business and local company. The LVT and carpet was everything we wanted! Here comes the best part---3 weeks after the floor was installed there was a plumbing leak under the house and it was physically impossible to crawl under the house to get to the leak; going through our brand new floor was the only option. Super sad about this I called Patrick and Sandra and told them the scenario. Man oh man these guys are amazing! They squeezed us into their schedule, took out the floor they just installed, opened the subfloor and then once the floor was repaired they came back and fixed it all with. I delay! It was apparent the we absolutely made the right decision to use Absolute Flooring as I am sure that if we had used a bigger company they would have given us the "too bad so sad about your plumbing and new floor problem problem". They were very nice in the store and during the estimate, but did not communicate well at all about timelines, contracts and the need to have a signed contract before ordering the carpet. This makes total sense to me to need these things, but they did not tell me up front about timing, so I lost several valuable days waiting for information. Each time they dealt with me too late in the day to be in contact with the carpet mills they use back east. So, another day slips by. I I went with Direct Sales/Carpet One. Hands down, I will never use anyone but Patrick for my floors. I have used him twice now, and both times were great. Here are the highlights of why: 1. Carry great products. In particular the eco friendly carpet and wood options are top notch. There is another local floor installer who was neither educated on this, nor had the available inventory. 2. Customer service - Patrick was available and worked hard to get my questions answered and the job done in the timelines I needed. 3. Great crew. Very friendly, efficient and clean each time. And super timely - they say they will arrive at a time. They do. They say they will be done at a certain time. They are. 4. Quality of install. My carpets look great, but both times I have had hardwood installed it has looked amazing. The most recent wood install had a challenge of being butted up against marble tiles throughout the house and the team pulled it off. A few honorable mentions: (a) It is great that you can take samples home and think on it and compare against colors etc. And I probably went in about 15 times getting different samples - and usually I had the baby with me and Mckenna always helped me carry things around. (b) I was really particular about the fact that I needed a low VOC/environmentally friendly carpet and carpet pad option. Patrick did the research to verify what would work best given our install and specifically sourced an excellent product for us. A few years ago we had to use California Carpets for my father's house and I didn't get anything close to service and installation like this. (c) Patrick has recommended 3 other contractors to us for various things that I have really enjoyed working with as well. (d)I bugged Patrick and McKenna a lot with questions and flip flop on colors/style of both wood and carpet. They answered, always were friendly and didn't seem to mind. I have to add my cents worth here - I have had great service from this company - not once but twice...I used them for the hardwood floors at my new home back in 2002 and again in Dec 07 for putting hardwood upstairs in my home. Both times I had stellar service in laying of flooring, keeping to schedules, as well as in back-office response(the invoicing was clear, prompt and with no surprises). Patrick was whom we dealt with regarding product choice, pricing,etc...He was very professional. Absolute Flooring did the floor in my garage a few months ago, and I was amazed at A) the prompt, friendly service---from the estimate to the installation, B) the quality of craftsmanship--these guys installed tile flooring in one day and it was absolutely a perfect job. C) the pricing! The price was very reasonable for the flooring, but then they did a baseboard for way below cost (less that we could have bought materials from Home Depot...). Shortly after installation, I went into the showroom for cleaner for the floor---my desk chair was scuffing it, and the owner GAVE me a $20.00 bottle of floor cleaner that easily removed the marks. I recommend Absolute Flooring to everyone I come across with flooring needs, and have heard NOTHING negative about them in this small community. They helped me pick out the perfect hardwood flooring for my entire home. They made suggestions that identified my style, but that were affordable for me. I want to put new carpet in my bedrooms, and have been in here twice (once alone and once with my wife), both times when I told them I was not sure what I wanted and asked for some guidance, they told me that there are nylon, polypropylene, and wool carpets... We purchased carpeting and hard wood flooring , we wanted to keep the business local , Sandra who runs the show room is so nice and very helpful she knows her stuff , Sam the owner came to our home to give us a quote , the pricing is very competitive , Sam is very professional and determined to make you happy , the workers are very good , polite and keep your house clean during the process , the floors look great , Sam said that maybe the carpet in the master bedroom would need re stretching in about a year Sam said just call him , this would be a free service , well 14 months later the carpet needed an adjustment , Called Sam he came right out a few days later , sent his crew over and everything is good , no stress just great customer service and workman ship....... My husband wanted laminate floors in our bedrooms and I wanted carpet. Typical disagreement amongst a husband and wife--we rarely agree. Thanks to Absolute's office manager, Sandra, I was able to bring home several flooring samples to help finalize our decision. After several months of consideration, we decided to go with carpet. That's right... I won that one! So carpet it was and Patrick came out to our home and measured our rooms. He was professional and very knowledgable. Absolute only carries high quality brands, which is great. That's what you want right? But--that actually made my job of selecting our carpet even MORE difficult since they were all so nice! Maybe a good problem to have. We chose a medium pile, multi-colored carpet in the grey tones, and it's the softest carpet we've ever had. Communication with Sandra was excellent. I'm writing this review because I'd like to share our great experience in working with Absolute flooring. Over the past year we've used Absolute Flooring for three separate flooring jobs. The first job was to install pre-finished wood flooring in 4 rooms in our home (2 bedrooms, an office, as well as a loft). From the beginning to the end of the process we were very pleased with both the quality of the work as well as the professionalism of the workers. The team moved all the large furniture for us, installed the flooring in beautiful condition, thoroughly cleaned up EVERYDAY on the job. The second job involved refinishing an old, distressed, pine hardwood floor in the rest of the home, including a large wooden staircase. We were worried initially because the floor was made from an old pine barn and we wanted to retain the distressed look (not take too much of the wood off with sanding) and make the floor more protected. Absolute Flooring really listened to our desires. I was especially pleased with the high quality work they were able to perform on the staircase... another contractor had damaged the staircase in the process of doing a kitchen remodel for us. The other contractor tried to fix the staircase and only damaged it more... with the stairs ending up with lots of unsightly grit in the finish!...not to mention the amount of "wood dust" he generated throughout the house. Absolute Flooring repaired the stairs beautifully. I wish we had insisted on using them for the initial repair job. To top it off, Absolute Flooring refinished all the flooring with very little dust. A big blessing if you've ever had to clean up after this process before. The third and last job Absolute Flooring performed for us involved installing some beautiful wood inlay between our living and dining rooms. It came out lovely... and again without a hitch. So, needless to say, I would use them again! read more
