We came back to Istanbul Rugs to check out a rug for our bedroom. We met Hakkan again. He showed us several rugs. We didn't have the proper measurements so he told us to measure it and he'd come by with several rugs to our house that I liked. We also wanted 2 rugs cleaned for free that we bought from them 3 years ago. A few days later, Ogi the owner came to the house to pick up our rugs. He returned days later with rugs for us to choose from. They laid the rugs on our garage floor and I was rejecting majority of them. Too masculine. I wanted to return to their shop and choose again. Ogi said you can get more confused looking at hundreds of rugs in the store plus they can look different at the store compared to your home. After more than 10 rejects, he took one rug made of silk and cotton which caught my eye. He asked me to step on it with my bare feet and it felt so soft. They brought it to our room and you can see how the colors changed because of the Iight. I was sold on this rug so after negotiations, an agreement was finally met. He offered to clean it first and deliver it in a week. Hakkan previously gave us a small rug to take home to test out for our front door. It was a bit thin so we had Ogi take it back. When he delivered our new rug weeks later, he gave us a better rug for our door which he got from his Berkeley store and it was perfect. He gave it to us for free. We also purchased a rug for my husband's office the same day. Thank you Ogi for your experience and recommendations for our new rugs. We are extremely satisfied! read more

I had a disappointing experience at the Menlo Park store. I drove up from San Francisco while setting up my new place and was hoping to get real guidance choosing a carpet. Instead, the associate I spoke with came across as condescending and dismissive. When I showed him a carpet I'd found online, he didn't really try to help or explain options; it felt like he just wanted to move me along. He repeatedly pointed out that the carpets I was considering were "cheap," and when he mentioned another one was around $4,000, it came with a "well, that's expensive -- what's your budget?" tone rather than an attempt to genuinely guide me. I went in because I'm not an expert and wanted knowledgeable advice, but I left feeling unwelcome and talked down to, which was disappointing given the positive reviews I had read beforehand. read more

Istanbul Rug has a wide selection of not only traditional rugs but also modern rugs in beautiful colors. They patiently showed us each rug in the stack until we narrowed down 3 styles to choose from. They were also very knowledgeable and explained rug basics (how tightly woven each rug is, how a rug needs to be broken in, which rugs were dyed and with what material (e.g. plant-based indigo dye)). We did not feel pressured at any point and bought two 8x10 rugs we absolutely love for a very fair price (after learning about the weaving quality, we understood the price points). I would highly recommend Istanbul Rugs over the chain box stores for unparalleled customer service and high-quality handmade rugs in natural materials. read more

I had a very dirty rug 8 x 11 rug. The last time I cleaned it, I had a truck and delivered and picked up myself This time, asked Istanbul to clean it. They arranged for pick up. The cost was reasonable and the pickup and deliver team (same guys) were so nice, asked if they needed to remove their shoes, and asked if I wanted them to wear masks. The rug came back looking and feeling like new. The price was reasonable and I was very pleased with the service. I have visited the store. If I needed any more rugs, I'd buy about half the inventory -- every rug is gorgeous. read more

This is a wonderful store for both purchasing and repair/cleaning of rugs. There is a huge selection and the staff is extremely patient with helping you look through and identify what you are interested in, as well as knowledgeable about the type of rugs that they have. I also brought in a rug that I wanted repaired and cleaned, and they did a really beautiful job on it (it looks brand new, no complaints whatsoever). Highly recommended, definitely my favorite store that I've been to in the US for Persian rugs, and this will be my place of choice for buying and repairing/cleaning from now on. read more

We had a wonderful experience shopping for our rug at Istanbul Rug in Menlo Park. Their rug selection is impressive, with beautiful and unique designs. We were looking for a specific Gabbeh design, and Ogi helped us look through a giant pile of rugs until we found "the perfect one". Ogi the owner was kind to bring the rug to our home the very next day to see how it looked in our room. We are extremely happy with our purchase and will highly recommend Istanbul Rugs for anyone who is interested in purchasing an oriental rug. Great experience shopping with them!!! read more

A friend recommended me to this rug store because he bought a rug from here. I was looking to see if I could get a custom order rug because I was looking for a abstract modern rug. Ogi kindly greeted me and showed me around. His knowledge on rugs is what helped me figure out what kind of rug i wanted. Once we got the order in, he said I would have to wait about 3 - 6 months for the rug to come in. I got it in 4 months. Have to say I really like the rug. I highly recommend coming here if you are looking for quality rugs and service. Ogi went pass my expectations to get me the rug I wanted! read more

Hakan was very knowledgeable and helpful. I learned so much from him on how to see quality and what to look for in a rug.

This is my second rug from Istanbul, and what I love about the experience is being able to try them in your home. Ogi let me take home 5-6 different runners to try out, and when it still didn't seem perfect, he let me try more. There was never a rush to make a decision. He only wants it to look right and for you to be happy. I love the rug selections at Istanbul, always one of a kind and great quality. I highly recommend! read more

Stumbled upon this new rug store last week and couldn't resist to take a peek! The inside is breathtaking. Lined with perfect stacks of rugs with beautiful large area rugs hanging from the walls. The staff is super friendly and were very willing to answer all of my questions. They are very knowledgeable and enjoyed learning about some of the designs. I ended up going with a modern rug that I feel fits perfectly in the comfort of my new loft in Palo Alto. Another bonus, they delivered and installed the rug which made things so easy for me. 10/10 recommend this place when you're searching for a rug. We loved the experience! read more

I walked in with my roommate on Saturday, thinking we would just browse around for a little looking for a rug for our living room. What I didn't expect was to stay they for over an hour chatting with the extraordinarily friendly and knowledgeable staff and looking at a bunch of options (both in and out of our price range). It was like being at a museum and I learned so much by talking to Ogi. It genuinely was a highlight our weekend. Ended up taking home a very nice rug for a reasonable prive that fits perfectly in the living room. You all are great! read more

I just bought a beautiful rug from Istanbul Rug on Santa Cruz Avenue in Menlo Park. I stopped in on a whim and had no expectation that I would leave with a rug that matched my budget, quality standard, or colors. Ogi was terrific and pulled rug after rug for me to see and let me take a few to try in our home. One of them was absolutely perfect. I am so happy with the service and quality of my new rug and still can't believe that the process was both surprising and effortless! read more

I was looking for some rugs for my new house, and was referred by my friend to go to Istanbul Rug. After visiting the Menlo Park location, I fell in love with their various selections of handmade rugs, which were beyond some of the finest pieces I have seen with the utmost quality. Not only was I greeted by the owner, Ogi, and his staff, who were super helpful, they assisted me with finding the right sizes and proper designs that would compliment the interior of my new place. Their rugs have definitely made a difference to the house, and I have gotten multiple compliments on my new rugs. I highly recommend this showroom and promise that you won't be disappointed. read more

Ogi was great at helping narrow down what style of rug and color families we liked. He was transparent about pricing (shared without my having to ask which is nice). He offered to bring a selection of rugs to our home and lay them out in the space the rug would go in. They came to our home 2 days later and showed us about 10 rugs (they had more if we needed). His team was friendly and respectful of our home (this involved moving furniture in order to lay the rugs down). Picked out a lovely rug at a reasonable price (I've bought many rugs over the years). They came back in an hour with a custom cut rug pad and we were all set! So easy. Highly recommend visiting their showroom. read more

Istanbul Rug is hands down my go to place for all of my rug needs! I am an interior designer and the staff at Istanbul rug has been so knowledgeable and helpful with so many of my projects. It is a family owned business that knows everything imaginable about rugs because they have been in the rug business for four generations! It amazes me how all of the staff can simply look at a rug and tell you where it was made, the knot count, what dying and weaving process went into making it, etc. They are not only knowledgeable, but incredibly friendly and professional. I often bring my clients in to view potential rugs while enjoying a Turkish coffee to give them the full experience when shopping for the ideal rug for their space. I highly recommend this business and have nothing but good things to say about them! read more

Istanbul Rug is amazing. I've purchased many fine rugs and some not so fine rugs and I can tell you Istanbul Rug knows their stuff. They have an amazing selection, amazing quality, and what truly sets them apart is their customer service. Their willingness to work with you as you sort out the form and function of a rug in your home is priceless. Their sales rep Ogi is the very best! I wouldn't buy a rug from any other store in the Bay Area, and that's saying a lot because we have access to wonderful carpets here. Istanbul rugs is the way to go! read more

Very courteous and polite. They seem vet knowledgeable and gave me an estimate instantly.

My husband and I were in search of a rug for our bedroom, when serendipitously we were referred to Istanbul Rug! We felt welcomed by his passion for rugs and he made sure to give us enough space to leisurely choose one. Relaxed and contented, we left with a rug that exceeded our expectations; it was perfect! Ogi patiently explained everything I could want to know about how the various types of Turkish rugs are made, the materials used, and how to care for them. His showroom was decked out in all manner of recently-made rugs with myriad color palettes and patterns. Ogi's crew patiently moved aside every rug in a stack of perhaps 70 so we could see the variety of patterns, then pulled aside all the contenders we found so we could see them next to each other under the store's bright lighting. This was our first stop in a tour of local rug shops, but as responsible shoppers we had to check out the Palo Alto and Menlo Park competitors, too. Here's what we learned. * Everyone throws in a free rug pad cut to size, and acts like they're the only ones who do this. The material Ogi uses grips way better. WAY better. It has little rubber barbs sticking up that keep the rug precisely where you set it down. The others gripped the floor well, but let the rug slide against the pad. * Not all Turkish rugs are made to the same quality standard. Look at the little knots on the back. Istanbul Rugs are tightly knotted and evenly spaced. We didn't see quite this level of craftsmanship elsewhere. read more
