I saw a lot of old chairs hanging in the ceiling, which I thought were acting as decoration. The owner/carpenter/artist/craftsman (that also looks like an actor in my opinion) told me that the chairs were in repair after some fires have destroyed so much furniture of a client and he was actually repairing them to their original state. I saw all the tools, the space, some pieces being repaired and the work of love. I have nothing to repair (after all I am an Ikea girl), but surely this shop is worth a visit even as a 'museum' of manual woodshop work.

This is the second time I had Aby reupholster the same bench. We recently made some upgrades to our…read morebedroom, so the bench needed a refresh as well. Aby did such a great job the first time, we didn't hesitate for her to do it again. I sent her a few inspiration pictures, and when I went to pick out fabric, she already had narrowed down the samples for us, which streamlined the selection process. A few weeks later Aby let us know our bench was ready. It was exactly what I wanted, and the fabric had the perfect texture and color. I'm sure I could have bought a new bench for the price of the reupholstering, but I don't think I can find one that's custom made exactly as I want.

I reached out to fill in some holes that longhorn beetles that were already infested in the…read morefurniture ate its way through. There were 2 holes about the size of a pinky and the cavity is about the size that could fit my thumb up to its nailbed. I reached out to a few folks and got quotes. Given my prior positive experience, I reached out to Mauricio to see if this could be done. I also noticed 2 holes that I'm not sure if it was there when I first got the furniture or if something else bore out. These were about the size of a dull pencil tip but on the underside of the furniture. Mauricio was extremely patient with me upon getting the details as I was considering getting a second opinion from some local exterminators on the risk of another emergence. Eventually, I figured out some details and booked an appointment. Everything was quickly scheduled with Edgar who arrived on time promptly and quickly went to work fixing the 4 holes. By the time it was finished, I could only vaguely guess where the holes were. To someone who didn't know about the holes, it would look almost natural. All in all, this took roughly an hour or so to complete. Edgar was sure to clean up after himself and laid out some paper padding to capture any mess left behind and prevent it from touching the floor. Overall, I was happy with the price and quality of work done.

During a quick 30 minute lunch break between zooms, I brought over a chair, and after chatting with Michelle, I decided to reupholster the now fraying faux leather on all 8. I scheduled a pick up, paid a deposit and was on my next zoom in no time. Chairs were done in less than a week and dropped off at my door! I honestly cannot tell which chairs were repaired.
