My experience with the floor store was awful. We had such a terrible time communicating with them. They gave us the run-around and it was impossible to move forward with our project. They're WAY overpriced. We worked with them to try to get the project started for three weeks then gave up. They wanted 100% of our money before the project even began. We ended up going through Whole Wood in San Carlos for our hardwood and we worked with Rolando Lopez at Pure Wood Flooring to complete the project. They were amazing! No joke, we got more done in one day with them than three weeks with the Floor Store. Stay far away from the Floor Store unless you want overpriced material and slow, ineffective communication. read more

Basically, my recommendation is that if you're looking to put in new flooring, go to another place. But I must qualify that by saying that ultimately we got a good product that was properly installed by a skilled craftsman. The hard work, patience, and skill of the installer should be highlighted. Despite this, because they were so difficult to work with, I cannot recommend them. Problems: (1) No help whatsoever with deciding what to get. We explained what we wanted and they pointed us to a large section of the store with possible samples. No help with deciding on color, matches to existing wood, price ranges, wood quality, durability etc. They did explain that based on the size of the board, there would be fewer or more lines where the boards joined, but when we asked to be directed to larger boards, they were unable to do that. When we asked to be directed to a mid-price range, they could not do that either. We went back and forth to our house several times carrying very heavy, unwieldly samples (not sure why they don't have smaller, more manageable samples) and realized while looking at their website that they advertise design consultants. When we asked to speak to one we were told "we're all design consultants," i.e, all the salespeople, and received no help with any design considerations. (2) Price. Once we decided on the wood, they explained that the installation fee was based on the number of boxes of wood we ordered. Initially, we were told to order 4 boxes, but upon consultation with others in the store, our salesman was advised to get 5 in case a few extra pieces were necessary. That made sense, but increasing the installation costs by 20% seemed absurd. In fact, only 2-4 pieces of wood from the fifth box were used, but they insisted that once the workman touched a box of wood, we had to pay as if all the wood from that box had been installed--absurd! (3) Failure to provide accurate information. This made them incredibly difficult to work with. There was a 3-week+ delay in obtaining the wood from what they initially promised. They took so long to inform us of what a realistic installation date would be, that our "grace period" to terminate the deal with no penalty expired. We had been told by the salesman that the flooring would be installed promptly. When we spoke to the installation department they insisted that it had to be in our house for at least 5 days to cure. We had guests at this time and our whole entrance way looked like a warehouse. The salesman had clearly and repeatedly told us that the installation would be accomplished in a bit more than one morning--but certainly in one day. In fact, it took the better part of 3 days--wreaking havoc with our schedules. In addition, our salesman almost never returned calls when he said he would and we had to hound him for information. (4) Contract. Their standard contract apparently requires that 50% of the cost be paid when the order is placed and the remaining part paid when they receive the wood from the manufacturer. It seemed to us that was ridiculous--we would have expected to pay the remaining 50% when the job was complete. Fortunately, as indicated, we were happy with the ultimate quality and this did not become a major problem--but I took it as a sign that they seek to have every advantage in dealing with you and remove all your leverage. So, in the end we're happy with what we got--but at every step of the way they made it as difficult and unpleasant as possible to deal with them. read more

We've used the Floor Store in San Carlos two different times. The first time was to replace all our old floors throughout the house with vinyl flooring. The job done was excellent - it is now about 4 years and the floors still look new. Vinyl is easy to keep clean and our housekeepers love to make them look nice. The second time we used them was about 3 months ago when we removed our old standalone fireplace and its base, and replaced that whole section with the matching vinyl that we bought from them. The work done was excellent - the workers knew what they were doing and cleaned up everything when they were finished. As far as value is concerned, we felt that the price was right. It happened again! For the second time in five years the "Made in China" LVP flooring The Floor Store sold me turned blue. Unbelievable! BTW These aren't the same photos, these are photos of the newer flooring along side photos of the first flooring. The first LVP flooring that turned blue, see my previous review, was made by COREtec a Shaw company. The second LVP flooring is made by ScratchMaster, a totally different manufacturer. What these two companies have in common I later found out is it's made in China. It's either a made in China problem or they're selling factory seconds at full price? Again I reported the problem with The Floor Store manager and was told she would contact the ScratchMaster sales rep. Not surprisingly, the store manager didn't return my voicemails or emails after she said she would look into it. After they sell you this "made in China" junk you're on your own. There's absolutely no customer service after they make the sale. If you're lucky and complain enough, they may offer you the same low quality junk and you cover all the labor cost. Sure, do that every couple of years. What's the point? If you're looking for a flooring store selling made in China or factory seconds with no customer service when something goes wrong, this is your flooring store. Working with Keith and the Floor Store was an excellent experience. We installed a mix of flooring and carpets in our house, and he has very deep expertise in both, which proved to be very helpful in making our choices. Due to an installation issue, the Store Manager made a commitment that the corporate office did not back up. After getting the run around (everyone at corporate was either out of the office, out sick, on vacation, at another store, etc) for 3 months, When we finally got feedback from corporate, it was a take it or leave it offer that was much less than the original commitment. We still never spoke to anyone at the corporate office, despite sending an explanatory letter to the owner. End result, we took them to small claims and prevailed. read more

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get beyond selecting a countertop option and getting a quote. Was told quartz slabs from a few specific manufacturers were $1900-2200 per slab. I took home some samples from those brands and selected one. Returned a few days later on a Friday during their Memorial Day weekend sale with kitchen measurements and the selected option, ready to put a deposit down and get the work scheduled. I was surprised to then learn that the slab option we selected was $5000, not the approx $2k I was originally told. The salesperson said he would call the distributer to confirm the price and call me back on Tuesday. Tuesday comes and goes with no call, so I stop by the next day. The sales guy says he just heard back from the distributer and the slabs are $5k (he did claim to be trying to get the price down, but it was too little too late.) After taking time off work and making three visits to this location, I've lost trust in doing business with this company and will need to start over with another local counter businesses. Ironic too that I was given a brochure while I was there about their "diamond status" based on how many great reviews they have. read more

Initially when I went in, I appreciated that Jory left me alone to shop. He was very knowledgeable and explained the differences between type and price. He came out to measure our place which seemed fine. But there was very little updates or contact after that. I had to continuously reach out to get an answer regarding when the carpet was arriving. Jory basically said it was now in the hands of the installer and that was the last I heard from him. The actual installers were great but come to find out that it was not measured correctly. This process has been very tiring because my husband and I have not been able to move into our home for about 3 1/2 weeks. Then this happens and now we have to repeat this waiting process. So the waiting game begins again and when we reached out to Jory, there is still no answer. So now to wait another 3-4 weeks and we still cannot fully move in. This has been such a long process. Considering how much we paid, I would only recommend this place because of the installers or if you like living out of boxes and being uncomfortable. I went to The Floor Store a few years ago and absolutely love the service and the floors I purchased. Unfourtnaly we had a flood in my home and I need to replace all of it plus i decided to do my enitre house with hardwood floors. I have called the San Carlos store since last November asking them to please look up my order and that I would need to order about 2700 sq, a nice big order! I called several times and the same Sales Person never follows through, so I left a message for the Salesperson that helped me orgianlly and she was promotoed to their corporate headqurters. She was great, but left her a message explaining the bad service and that I wanted to purchase and was ready. Never once got a call back from her either! So I went to the new Burlingame Store and same thing! I prefer to purchase from Family Owned business and be a loyal customer. In this case, it is very sad no one cared enough. I never write negative Yelp reviews becasue I dont feel it is fair to hurt a business, but my reason for me to do this is in hopes that the owner Mr. Flick will see this and rectified this situation. Last year I bought a home whose previous owners had exquisite taste. I only needed to update one thing--their bedroom carpet, which had been much loved by two adults and their dog. The dog left large spots, which I wasn't in love with. As a Redwood Shores dweller, I'd passed The Floor Store for years. I decided to take a look. I was soon met by Keith, who--upon hearing my challenges, was eager (but not greedy) to help. I liked his style, and while I loved the pattern of my former homeowners' carpet was not willing to buy the silk/wool blend they'd invested in. Keith understood my goals and reservations, and quickly found me a cost-effective, high-quality alternative that had a pattern very close to the former owners' carpet. Long story short, it was the perfect fit. Keith nailed it. On top of that, the installers were excellent. Because it was a horizontal stripe, the placement at the doorways had to be perfect. They understood and delivered. Carpet seems expensive. But you need to buy the highest quality, such as that at The Floor Store. Trust me, it's worth it. Especially because of its detail-oriented customer service, such as that offered by Keith and his team, I'm overjoyed every time I walk into my new bedroom. read more

Keith in sales is a treasure. Not only does he know his product, he's funny and great to work with. It's too bad that the installation department is so horrible. Not only does it take forever to get an installation done, the installer that showed up at my house with filthy quarter round he want to install on my floor decided that being informed about this was "not my fault." When asked to go ahead and just install the rest of the flooring and leave the quarter round off for a future solution his answer was to pack up and leave the site without fulfilling his responsibility to install the flooring. I was made to pre-pay for this install and waited over a month. And the service manager was sure to inform me that this was all my fault. I was told that the installer "did not feel comfortable "doing the installation. Yes, we all need to be comfortable doing our jobs. We should not be made to take responsibility for something under our control like not bringing out contaminated product to a site. Apparently, with the installation department, everything is either the fault of the client or the fault of the warehouse. * RE owner's comment below: apparently bringing attention to damaged product. the installer brought to the site and refused to take responsibility for is inappropriate behavior. Rather than address the concern, the installer refused to respond and began loading his tools back in his truck without a word. After abandoning the project, they have failed to refund my $1600 prepaid installation cost. They are in violation of their own contract. read more

All staffers are responsive and helpful in answering questions any time that I have them. They also give me plenty of time to look around and think of what I need and like. Our sales rep Laurie DeJong has helped us through a rather difficult course in getting the right carpet and permits from our condo to install and has worked with us so well with our schedule being from out of town. Our initial visit to The Floor Store came after different alternate quotes ranging from nearly inking the deal with an independent "floor guy" recommended by our general contractor. It turned out he wouldn't provide a contract because of issues with his former partner. This forced me to pull licensing information etc. despite our trust in the GC. Other quotes were from folks who literally came to our house, inspected and measured every inch and then we never heard back from them. It's a daunting experience as others may understand. I heard of Floor Store from their sincere advertising from their owner (may be a good marketing position) however it at least drew us into interest. I called, left a message to a general mailbox purposely to see how quickly they would respond and how they would respond. In one day, Scott Sanders called me and said, "how can we help?". I told him we are looking at 1000+ sq ft of hardwood flooring and not sure what we wanted. He said he was available during XX hours and to come in to talk through options. Long story short, we engaged with them but of course, chose a floor that was on backorder for weeks because of shipping delays. Scott called, emailed and may have even sent a note via pigeon if he had to when there were possible delays. All the way down to the transition boards and trimming which all came in at different times. He knew communication was key. At one point, we even came to the store on his day off and Keith back him up like we were his sale. The collaboration and environment that existed lowered the stress level which is needed when spending such an investment of time and money. We are both in sales, insurance and real estate. I say this because I think our level of expectations are a little higher as we know what it's like to serve folks who are embarking on major purchases. There was one day of delay in installation and I sent a very frank email. Jennifer called me within the hour (Scott's day off), apologized for the delay and assured me that this would be prioritized. It was. They were there at 7:30a every day until the job was done. The attention to detail all the way to the caulking was remarkable. I know there are situations where things go wrong whether in our control or not. It's not those times we are centered; it's how one responds when something goes awry. In every situation, each person came through for us. We cannot be happier with the process and installation. If you're on the fence with who to choose, I highly recommend Scott and all who were involved. Life is short and unpredictable. Get the floors. read more

When we walked in the store, were initially contacted by a very helpful, but new employee, Sherif. Sherif showed us what we asked for, but is in training, so wasn't able to answer some of our technical questions. He then brought another person, Keith, to speak with us. Keith was so rude that he must not need business. I held my hand out and introduced myself - which he shook but did not provide his name. Keith did not want to sell us what we asked for (carpet) and argued with me about we needed. We tried to explain that we had carpet that held up well in the area before, but he was unable to listen to any explanations, and was entirely adamant that it wouldn't work. I just thanked him and walked out. I guess he thought I was an uniformed person. But actually I do know what I am talking about and any business that our commercial construction business could have sent his way is now a moot point. read more

*Edit 1 to 3 star: Jennifer, manager of the store, reached out fairly quickly to issue apologies and take responsibility for the mishaps. They did issue a refund which takes care of that issue. I do believe they have a great selection of products and I wish I had a better experience with the service but it is what it is. Ultimately lost time, was frustrated with ONE member and I cannot fault the entire store itself. Just purely out of principle I just needed some accountability. As a store, my advice would be to make it easier to route to management or another associate to make sure lapses in communication don't occur. A simple, "working on it" or a one line update from the associates also would be enough to know that our orders were not completely forgotten.* I wanted to like this store and generally liked the selection they had on offer but the service started great and ended at abysmal. The issue is that we were GHOSTED after paying for a service which was to measure to home to assess how much hardwood we'd need to order. Gordon initially was very helpful and we moved forward with the process however once we paid and had our home measured it went dead silent for over a month. Knowing his schedule, since he told us, I waited for his workdays to call back and check on the measurements but he never picked up his office extension nor his cell listed on his business card. I did this once a week until the benefit of the doubt was lost. Interestingly I call in one day and the desk tells me he is with a client and to leave a voicemail... which I did. No reply again. I call in another day and he's out of the office, someone is at his desk and says there is a note to call me... who knows how long it has been there. At this point it's over a month as you can see from the picture. He emails me and says he wasn't sure what number was on file when that is NOT the case... he's called me before and also recited the number back on email... literally he did not try. He apologizes and, well, frankly it's too late but it's something. At this point I say okay it's fine as long as you send me the quantities/measurements... he does not respond or send me anything. I don't understand what went wrong and it was like pulling teeth to order a sizeable amount of wood from this store... we are remodeling whole home and it would've been a big order so I just don't understand. We eventually went with someone else who sorted us out within two days. Lost for words and really disappointed. Looking at other reviews it seems service was a recurring issue. read more
