I was impressed with his workers on time every morning, very diligent, thorough and took their time with the wood prep. I had some termite damage and bad wood on the side of the garage. They took their time to ensure the side of garage was well prepared before painting. I really appreciated that because my last painter did not prep the house well and the paint began peeling off within a few years. Clean up was well done and I also appreciated Bertram personally did a final walk through with me to ensure there were no issues or paint touch ups required at the end of the project. TLDR. The quality of the work worth 4 star, but the poor management and communication is no more than 3.5 star. [Updated per the response from the owner] As I mentioned, we've no question about the quality of the work and this review was all about the poor communication during the job. If anything changes that affected the projects as what promised and confirmed before, it should have been communicated timely and we are reasonable people to understand if we were not being told at the end. During the whole job, we had stressed several times in email, chat and phone calls that we need to have the job done in time and that was the main reason we picked the team. Despite all these, we only found out the job had to be delayed on the agreed date and only got the explanation at the end. [Details] We needed to apply texture (L4 smooth) and paint work for the ceiling and some small fixes before we moved in the house and we were under a very tight timeline. Of all the contractors we talked to, my husband picked Bertram's team as they said they can finish the job within the timeline even though they were the most expensive quote (the others need 3 more days). He also confirmed on the email that they could definitely finish the job by the date. My husband didn't ask to add the date to the contract as he thought they were from the same place so he chose to trust Bertram. This turned out to be our biggest mistake. As we were out of town while the work were doing and we only had friend to check out the progress twice (one in the middle and one at the end), we were hoping Bertram could monitor and communicate back to us on the progress of the job and if any changes as what the other Yelp review said. However, there were no active communication from Bertram until my friend checked and we have to contact Bertram to know the details. When we discovered in the middle that the progress was too slow, he asked us to be assured that it could finish in time. We chose to trust him, but it turned out the job was again delayed. The explanation we got at the end was they only had 2 workers on the painting job and they were sick in the middle of the job. However, this was never communicated back to us beforehand and it messed up all our plans on the house cleaning and moving plans that we had to plan again. For this end result, We could probably have saved a few thousands of dollars if we go with a different contractor. read more

He promptly arrived at the appointed time, accessed the situation, and gave me a verbal quote, which he followed up with a written one. The day the project was to start, he and his team showed up on time. They were very respectful of my home and me. He stated the work would take two weeks to complete.
