I am a repeat customer at Grand Flooring. I did a small room flooring carpet to floor replacement 10 years ago. I was very happy with them that time too. From that experience when the entire house flooring project came up, I approached them. The initial problem was a water leak had damaged a major area of the flooring. I thought it would be a area replacement and it should be easy fix. Jason - the owner and very technical person in the flooring business - understood our problem. He not only explained the short and long term fixes, helped me throughtout the project to understand long term impact, avoid short cuts and most importantly never pushed or upsell me anything. He was very responsive and hands-on, was able to execute both phases of our project with short lead times, and was very fair when we encountered the unexpected (see below). His teams replaced our downstairs wood, tile and carpet flooring with new wood plank flooring selected from Jason's extensive showroom, and replaced our upstairs carpeting. The downstairs demo was more complicated and difficult than anticipated, but Jason's guys put in the hours and got the job done on schedule. About a month after our new wood floors were installed, we experienced a water leak that ruined part of our dining room. Jason's team expertly removed and replaced about half the planks in the dining room, and he essentially charged us only his cost, which we of course greatly appreciated. I got vinyl laminate installed for my mobile home a few years ago and the initial process of measuring and getting the materials was good but installation had several issues where the job didn't complete on time and the material was not good. Within months, the planks were separating and after making several calls, nobody came to fix it. They did try to remedy by giving me some money to get it fixed on my own. Let me start with a bit of background - we ordered really good flooring last year and got it installed by a non-licensed contractor, who did a terrible job. We then contacted Jason in mid Nov since we saw his work at one of my friends place, where he and his team installed the flooring 2yrs ago and it was still in great condition. He explained to us in great detail why the last job was so poor and asked us to contact the contractor to fix things. However, we told him the contractor was unlicensed and long gone. Jason was sympathetic to our plight and gave us a really great deal. His crew was very respectful and friendly. The installation went really well and Jason would drop by to check in on the work every day (although, this isn't the expectation we had at all since we know he has various projects going on all the time). They did my house laminate flooring and it creeks and makes lot of noise . It's just been few days after installation I asked the questions and there was no proper answers . Simple answer was laminate floors are like that and nothing can be done. After sometime I got knowledge speaking to other contractors and they educated me that generally they glue it or level it and it takes time so people take short cuts. If they would at least been honest and told me that it's costs additional I would have valued them . DONT go with them at all if you are going with laminate. Their attitude is hardwood floors rocks and anyone with laminate or equivalent is useless. Also Jason outsources work to other contractors and they do the actual work. He hit some headless nails throughout the wood flooring to stop some creaking sounds which pop up every day and I have to hit those crap nails just to make sure my family is safe but can't prevent few accidents. Bad installation and no follow-up. In one of the closets, a big gap was visible and it pinched a lot when standing in certain area of the same closet. Took some time for them to send the same guys over and hammer in the nails and close the gap just a little. The gap is still visible and we do feel the pinch once in a while. On top of that, I've been asking multiple times in the last 6 months for an official invoice and have gotten nothing back. One of our friend suggested Jason and we are glad we made that decision. He was very well accommodating our time frame as we wanted to show him home during escrow period and get the quote. He came per our schedule and gave us a decent quote. We wanted to match the existing hardwood floor . He talked with vendors plenty of times , got several sample and showed the exact matched, before ordering. All these were done in timely manner. I am 100% happy with my floors - it's exactly what I was looking for when I started the whole process (see pics). Details: Grand Flooring installed laminate gray flooring (AC4 grade) for my townhouse-style condo across the bottom and 2nd floors as well as the 13-15 stars between these two floors and the respective landing areas (minus the main entry which was already tile). They ran the wood diagonally across the 2nd floor (something I always wanted) and horizontally on the downstairs. Everything came out amazing - I honestly couldn't be happier. My friends who have seen the before and after had jaw-dropping reactions. Pricing and Material Selection: 5 stars all the way. They had the best prices for labor as well as materials compared to 6-7 shops around the South Bay that I spoke to. Their store is huge - tons of flooring options mainly hardwood / engineered wood / laminate. They had the biggest selection I saw and several grayish tints whereas many smaller shops only had 1-2 grays. Workmanship: Again, solid 5 stars. Paul and his associate were able to complete the work in 3 days once the materials came in. They were very detail oriented and were fast and efficient but also careful. The stairs and the diagonal layout really turned out amazing. They removed the baseboard without any major damage and painted before reapplying once the work was done. They also covered up my counter / cabinets and cleaned up thoroughly when they completed the work. Paul speaks both Vietnamese and English fluently and thoroughly explained the entire process to me before and during the actual work (which helped because I speak English fluently and Mandarin poorly / terribly-ish). I formed my 5-star rating based on the above criteria. I would go to them again for any flooring needs. Some caveats: * They are busy and they just got a new ordering system / software - so be prepared to be patient during the selection / ordering process. Once they have you dialed in there, the installation is fast and painless. I am a very hands-on person and especially when it comes to cost break-downs - so when I went through the procurement process it took over 2 hours since there were interruptions throughout the day (other customers / contractors coming in when Henry was working by himself). * Both Henry and his sister (sorry, I never got her name) who work at the front desk are Vietnamese. Job took 8 weeks. Had to have them redo the stairs because the gaps were as wide as my finger tip. "Weapons to extort discount"?? Complete BS!
