This company did the following unethical things to me: 1. They gave me a quote and had me sign a contract for a mutually agreed upon price and material that included pickup. 2. They changed the contract and had me sign a second contract saying that I should pay for pick up again and I signed that also. 3. They then went to my home to do a demolishing of carpet. They ripped off carpet in one room. Then called me asking for more money saying that they forgot to include master bedroom closet in their calculation and demanded that I pay additional money that was not in contract. I disagreed to pay more since thats not what we agreed. They left the home with the carpet messed up and removed in one room. 4. I was disappointed and they emailed saying they never started work but this is not true because they already removed carpet in one room. 5. I sent another flooring company and realized and shocked that carpet was already removed in one room and due to this the home is uninhabitable. 6. I am forced to pay 10K to another company to change the flooring. 7. I do not recommend this flooring company to anyone since they will mess up your home and demand more money without honoring a signed contract and without getting you prior approvalbbefore beginning work. 8. I am updating my review since they commented below that unexpected issues may occur causing price increase. In my case the fault is on their side. They told they miscalculated the sq ft(i.e forgot to include master closet). It's been a year and a half since Samvel's team removed the carpet and refinished the floors and they still look amazing. The pictures are the refinished floors from our 1960s home. They patched places where there was damage perfectly. You can't tell the difference between the new boards and the 60 year old boards. The also replace the floorboards. They weren't the cheapest option so I was hoping the higher price meant more attention to detail, but no. The floor itself was done well and timely. Samvel was responsive to texts and accommodating so I was not expecting what ensued and I am disappointed. Everything was going well until I walked in and saw my vacant unit was messier than when I left it. Lots of dust which was understandable but the toilets had splashes of urine, the sinks in the bathroom and kitchen were super dirty, the mirrors in the bathrooms had water splashes, and worst of all my cabinets were splashed with cement that was used to level the floor. Thankfully the cement came off after some scraping but I dont understand why tarps or plastic werent used to cover the cabinets - painters know to use tarps so whats the difference? Would probably help with keeping the dust off too. I contacted Samvel calmly stating I understood that there would be dust and workers of course would have to use the restroom and sink - that's not the problem. The problem is leaving the place worse than how you found it. He responded that they're not a cleaning company which ok... but common courtesy is to at least clean up after yourself + if you work with cement to be careful, no? I was hopeful for better service given all the great reviews so this was disappointing. They said because of the dividing perpendicular plank in each doorway, any variation would be less noticeable. Well, it looks fabulous. I'm so pleased with the job G.S.E. did on our office floor! It looks beautiful and they were great to work with. They were quick to come after I called for a consultation and scheduled the job soon after. The whole thing took 3 days (even though they discovered the wood floor stopped at the closet and had to lay down new wood flooring inside): one day to remove carpet, sand the floor and apply a coat of stain, another day for stain, and a final day for painting and installing new baseboards. They matched the color of our existing floors perfectly and you can't tell the difference between the new wood in the closet and the refinished wood in the room! I am thankful that we found GSE flooring. We wanted to change the carpets in 2 bedroom and 2 walk-in closets to laminate, as well as the vinyl in a bathroom to laminate. We had a really tight schedule for our remodeling and another company we'd scheduled with canceled on us and set a new date more than 2 weeks out. So we decided to find another company. And that's how we found GSE flooring. Samvel was always punctual, professional and respectful. We had a lot of questions and he responded patiently and on time. We got his quote on Thursday night and we finalized the agreement on Friday. They started the job on Monday and were finished by Tuesday afternoon (just Samvel another guy). When I say finished, I mean they had finished the installation and had cleaned up the place. We were pleasantly amazed at their efficiency and the quality of their work. Pro: - Punctual and stays on schedule. Cons: - No attention to detail. If you are going to hire GSE, I recommend doing two things: 1. Project manage the job closely, especially if his employee Eduardo is on your job. He is unprofessional, does not treat the home with respect, and rushes on his tasks. I've had to ask him to redo things multiple times throughout my projects. If you feel like you're being nit-picky, don't. Samvel's team lacks attention to detail, and you should hold a high bar on quality and craftmanship. Samvel claims to take his work seriously, but the quality of their jobs tell me otherwise. 2. Inspect the job THOROUGHLY before Samvel leaves. I hired Samvel twice, once in 2023 to refinish my property in Redwood City, and again in 2024 to install new flooring in my new property in San Mateo. Although I wasn't totally happy with the first job, I hired GSE again because I felt I at least knew what to look out for. During the refinishing job, Samvel stored my furniture in my garage and backyard. While they were sanding, they kept my garage door open and the sanding dust got into absolutely everything. He also did not cover up the furniture that was placed outside for the duration of the project, and my furniture got bleached by the sunlight. I would have appreciated it if he cared to cover up my furniture with something more than just a plastic sheet and kept the garage closed while sanding. After the job was finished, I spotted several corners (especially in the closets) where the old finish was still left un-sanded. That's when I knew GSE does not pay attention to detail, especially in the less conspicuous areas. During the second job, Samvel's team took off some of the panels on the kitchen cabinets while demo'ing the flooring and stored them in the garage. The panels got lost in the shuffle with other contractors coming in and out of the house for other remodeling jobs. Samvel should have known better than to store the panels in the garage where there was already a lot of trash from all the remodeling. But ok, it's his job to manage the other contractors, so I didn't raise any issues with it and I told him not to worry about it. After Samvel's team left, we had the handyman come back to reinstall the doors that were taken off while the painters were in the house. One of the bedroom doors wouldn't close anymore (I had confirmed all the doors were working before I paid the handyman for his services). It turns out, the door frame was pushed out by the baseboard (which Samvel's employee installed) that was cut too long and jammed in by force. I told Samvel about this, and he was adamant that it could not have been his team who did it. No one else has touched the baseboards. My handyman thankfully was willing to fix it for us, so I was ready to let it go, until I found doodling on my brand new flooring while cleaning the house before move-in. I have a strong suspicion it was Eduardo. The last nail in the coffin that really tipped me over the top was when I found several gaps in the floorboards during my more detailed walk-through of the house after Samvel left. I sent him the photos of the gaps and he said he would come and fix everything. The flooring is already all installed, which means he would either need to tear everything out again from the edges, or cut those specific boards, and glue down the replacements. We absolutely did not want that because of glue off-gassing, so I passed on his offer to correct the errors. At the end of the day, I'll probably forget about the gaps soon enough. Maybe I'm the a-hole being nit picky here, but this was not a cheap job and I definitely do not think I had anything more than a 2-star experience. read more

Install material: Hardwood & wooden baseboards Installation scope: single family home ~1000sqFt Samvel is a nice guy, but the overall experience working with them has been subpar and disappointing. And I would not recommend them. I think the situation could have been salvaged with better communication, ownership/accountability, and planning. Key Issues: -One of the installers clogged our toilet during the install. Yes they did fix it, but that was after we discovered it and raised the issue. -There are cigarette butts littered at the front door of the property -They are not very experienced, thoughtful and we ended up with over $1000 worth of wasted materials and two weeks delay to the project due to poor planning around wasted materials. We purchased 10% more material to account for waste, and on the last day of the install, they told us there are only 1 1/2 foot pieces remaining and we need to purchase additional 3-4 boxes. I found at least 2 boxes worth of hardwood flooring in my garage that were wasted, including long pieces. Hardwood needs 1 week to acclimate and we had to wait 1 week for the materials to be delivered, delaying the install by 2 weeks. Another instance is with the baseboards. They did not plan ahead on how to cut the baseboards to maximize the materials. Instead we ended up having to purchase 2 additional pieces of baseboards which are all wood (so $$), and there are still seams on some of the walls because they had to use two pieces. They're also not very detail oriented nor cared enough to problem solve for functional issues. Our bathrooms are tiled, and is lower than the hallway and bedrooms. They installed a transition piece at the entrances that was 1/2 inches higher with a 90 degree angle. This is a serious tripping hazard and could stub your toe constantly. I asked them how to address this concern, but they could not provide a solution for this and said this is just the way it is. I'm lucky I had someone experienced to consult for a solution. The overall communication was not great. You'd have to sit there all day to micro manage the install to avoid issues. read more

Great experience with Samvel and his team. GSE flooring demolished the old hardwood floor and put in new engineered hardwood (about 1100sq ft). This was a tricky job - second floor with squeaky floor everywhere. Samvel spent lots of time with me advising on the best way to deal with the squeaks and was able to almost completely eliminate them by nailing the floor with special nails (that look like a hybrid of nail and screw). You can still hear the floor "settling in" but almost never any squeak. The people hired were super nice. All the trash was taken away. Samvel recommend a nearby store he works with ("kapriz") which gave me a deal on the hardwood itself. I recommend GSE flooring, hard to imagine a better service. read more

In one word: Excellent We conceived of our stair remodel project almost 3 years ago. The job was to remove 20 year old carpet that was used by our cat as a scratching pad and ripped apart on several steps, complete replacement of all treads with solid oak planks, replacement of all wooden balusters, complete refinish of the rails and stain and lacquer of the rest. Oh, and the stairs are curved and the bottom part is open on both sides. Not an easy or cheap job by any measure. We got our first estimate from one single company (DRS Stairs) in October of 2018. That estimate was many thousands of dollars more than we expected and as it turns out included many unnecessary charges and did not include the shipping cost of balusters and more importantly did not include re-finishing. We decided not to do that project until this year while cooped up in COVID. We randomly found GSE Flooring on Yelp. And boy, were we not disappointed. Pictures before and after speak for themselves.
