We hired HB to redo/expand 2 bathrooms, the kitchen, and flooring throughout the house. I enjoyed working with Aidan, the manager, and Christine, who works in the showroom. They are both responsive, easy to work with, good communication skills. Pricing is competitive, total project was about $100k. We did not need to haggle or negotiate, we took their pricing and scope at face value. It's been 2 years now, but things were starting to break down at the 1-year mark, and I have a lot of issues with the trades people that HB subcons. Flooring: Less than 18 months in and our floors started buckling and falling apart. This could be due to (1) poor installation; (2) poor material; and/or (3) bad subfloor. If (2), they should have told me / the material should not have been showcased in their showroom nor sold to me. Ultimately, we hire professionals for their advice/expertise, I should not have been steered in this direction, especially as we gave no indication that pricing was an issue. If (3), then they should have told me, and I would have been happy to pay for the subfloor to be fixed. If (1), then shame on them. We are now hiring a different team to evaluate the damage and re-do the floors. Sheetrock/Paint: the guys who installed sheetrock didn't do a great job, I can see the seams through the paint. When we went through the punch list, the solution was to throw thicker textured paint on top, instead of just doing the sheetrock correctly. In addition, the textured paint is really globby - we asked for orange peel texture, and shared photos. We got a much rougher texture, and spots where the paint is so thick, you can see the dribbles as it slid down the walls. Not great workmanship here. Because of this experience, we did not end up selecting HB for another big project we had (new house build). Given all the positive reviews, wondering if I got the B team / is this a fluke? Overall, if you care about the workmanship / quality of the finish, then I would stay away. If you need to get a job done and are extremely price conscious, then perhaps check them out. HB recently remodeled our kitchen and bar and we are very happy with their services and the final results. The whole kitchen including flooring was removed and replaced with new cabinets, flooring, countertops, and appliances. We had to convert our electric stove top to gas, which required to have the gas line extended from garage to kitchen. We also rearranged the location of the refrigerator. Our project manager King was very reliable and on top of the all the assignments daily and provided updates daily. His response time was always quick when we had questions, and monitor the whole project to ensure work was done to our satisfaction. Aline helped us with material purchases and layouts. Overall good experience after a pipe burst and took out our kitchen and dining room. Luckily one of the installed kitchen cabinets had the HB home sticker on it (installed by prior home owner). I called Wei and his team fortunately still had the kitchen plans on file. Biggest headache was waiting for the new cabinets to be built but that is the third party vendors fault and not HB's Our kitchen is better than original after some minor upgrades. Our bath was about 41.6 sf with a shower of 3 sf. It's cramped and uncomfortable. We've been considering enlarging the shower without affecting the house structure. The project remains a dream for years for lack of a feasible idea to realize it. A friend who had two properties completely renovated by HB Kitchen Bath referred them to us. King Li, the project manager, came to our house promptly and came up with an excellent floor plan that would transform our shower to a 5.75'x2.5' area, the size we have been dreaming of. We posted a glowing review for HB in 2019 after our first renovation project. We used them again in 2021, and found them adequate (though not as good as our first experience). We visited them again two weeks ago, and have been very disappointed - their showroom was locked and by appointment only, there were very limited materials displayed in the showroom, and the designer Christine has not responded to us with the promised rough design in two weeks. We were referred to HBKB by a friend who had seen their work at other homes and we've seen their cars around Union City and Hayward so knew that they were familiar with Hayward/Union City permitting process. We did a full kitchen remodel including with a wall demolition, requiring city permits and architectural design, cabinet design, new flooring, new electrical and new doors. This was a massive project that spanned many months (thanks Hayward for the slow permit approval process...) and was spearheaded by Aidan and Christine. Aidan was a fantastic PM managing our project with wonderful coordination between the electricians, painters, cabinet design, literally everything. He is quick to action and easy to communicate with, always driving over to talk through problems, explaining why things are done a certain way and communicating back to Christine as needed in the HQ office. Christine did our cabinet design and gave wonderful, highly useful inputs into our design ideas from placement, sizing, the nice extras (pull out spice drawers!), Quartz countertop opinions, etc. Honestly, she was a great sounding board and easy to work with. We got a major bathroom remodel and later on a teardown and refresh of our garage. Aidan was our point of contact who drove both projects. His estimates for the project were competitive based on the other estimates we got. It was one of the factors that helped us choose them.. but the one other thing that solidified our confidence in giving him the project was his communication. His ability to understand what we are trying to achieve and convey to us the challenges/alternatives. Also they are able to tackle complex projects. Project execution overall was good. While there were some delays, it was not too bad. Throughout the process he was very responsive on WhatsApp. Good way to work with them IMO is to figure out as much of details of what you want done at the start of the project. read more

Working with Aiden and Aline from HB Kitchen & Bath (a.k.a. HB Home Decor) was truly a great experience! The project was finished to be just what we wanted, and more! All of this done within a solid time frame as well and even quicker than some of my coworkers going through their own, less extensive renovations at the same time using other vendors. But let's not compare vendors too closely in this review as the important thing here is to know HB and Aiden know how to create and schedule a plan and keep the project moving while balancing other projects, emergencies, changes (some of which were my own), and deliveries. Aiden's attention to detailed project schedules including availability of his different teams really made this project work efficiently and effectively. Now this doesn't mean we just sat down and talked about what we wanted at the beginning and then let the project run on its own. I don't believe this is how a project should work as there were a lot of little things to catch or notice and then changes to make on an almost daily basis. It's important to stay in tune with what is being done inside your house. We caught a lot of little things to work on like desk heights, swapped hot and cold pipes, and even placement of heating elements for the flooring. By us paying attention, we were able to catch these little things and make adjustments before they became big things. What I appreciate about Aiden is he was available to quickly address those concerns and talk to his crew for the day to make sure they addressed our concerns. If we had not been paying attention or just ignored the situation, I could easily see us not liking the outcome. Thanks to Aiden's responsiveness and openness to addressing our concerns, the project worked out just the way we wanted. Another element is we lived inside the house while it was being renovated. Many project managers would find this burdensome, but Aiden was very accommodating throughout. This was important to me as I wanted to be on hand as the renovation was happening so I could see opportunities for changes while there was an opening for that change. For example, once the old cabinets were removed, I quickly noticed that there was an opportunity to install a new outlet inside the new cabinets which would hide a lot of unsightly cords and also allow me to install LED accent lighting. I didn't think about this initially, but once I saw the opportunity, I was able to connect with Aiden immediately and request the change in the least impactful way possible. Running the electrical wiring while the cabinet was removed and only a wall remained was the ideal time to create that new outlet. Once the cabinets were installed, it would have been difficult to do that after the fact, but now that I had an outlet put in the wall, it was as easy as cutting a hole in the cabinet and installing the old work box, wall plate, and outlet inside the hole. To me, it's important to be a part of the project and not just spectators hoping it will get done the way we imagine. Aiden and Aline were ideal partners in this as they were patient, responsive, and experienced to give us insights that we would not have been able to come up with ourselves. We had a great experience working with HB for our kitchen and two bathrooms. I've heard a lot about contractors disappearing and being hard to track down. HB has a physical showroom and warehouse which gave me more confidence in working with them. Aiden provided a very detailed itemized estimate. Other contractors that were lower didn't provide nearly as much detail and the other contractor that did was much higher. Their portfolio of work is also impressive. We knew pretty much what we wanted, but both Aiden and Christine had a lot of great recommendations that really improved what we had envisioned. I didn't want to think about ordering cabinets and materials or scheduling deliveries. HB did all of that for us without any delays. They worked pretty much 6 days a week and Aiden kept the project right on schedule without any surprising costs. We paid in installments in-person at their showroom and Jasmine always followed up immediately with emailed receipts and paid invoices. There were a few small issues to fix with flooring and electrical, but Aiden always sent someone to correct things without any push back. All in all, we really didn't have any logistical issues which was quite surprising to us. I worked with HB Kitchen for over 6 months between ordering cabinets, waiting for the order during pandemic wait times, some follow ups during installation and the last small straggler pieces as we finished our kitchen. We ordered custom omega cabinets, quartz, and our knobs and pulls all from Christine and HB. Overall, my experience working with Christine and with Jasmine was fantastic. We went full custom for our large kitchen and when I placed my order I had no idea the wait time would be so long due to the pandemic and despite this Christine and I spoke multiple times a week, (via text, I love when people can text because it gives me so much more flexibility to respond!). I visited the show room a couple of times with my designer (once even having to bring my 2 year old who the entire staff was so sweet to) and was able to do everything by text and phone after that (which is great since I live on the Peninsula so its a trek to get to the East Bay). When they received a notification from the cabinet maker our cabinets were ready Christine notified me immediately, we set our remodel in motion and our cabinets arrived right when she said they would. Our cabinets are beautiful, we love the color, inset and soft close doors, everything about them. We had one issue that was the cabinet makers fault with our custom hood but Christine went above and beyond helping us fix the issue without another long wait time for a new cabinet. I fully knew that HB did not have to do anything for us on this but I was impressed and so relieved with how proactive and helpful they were in working through it directly with my contractor. We worked with HB over the last few months on our Kitchen and Bathroom remodel. We started getting quotes around May 2021 and they were the only one that was able to provide a free render of how our kitchen and bath would look. We decided to go with them and worked with Aidan as the project manager. We ordered cabinets about 4 months before our start date and they arrived about 2 weeks before our project started. The rest of the materials were brought in as needed. We ordered our appliances separately from Airport Appliance, and those took a few months to come in, which was fine since they mostly arrived just as things in the kitchen were finishing up. Once the project started in November 2021, they moved very quickly to demo the existing kitchen and bathroom, while making sure to mask off the floors in the rest of our home so there would be no extra damage. When issues came up, either the workers would talk to us, or Aidan would call or text. They were able to identify some improvements to make while the walls and floor were open, as well as suggest some things we had not thought about. Small mistakes that we pointed out were remedied immediately and without any fuss. The bathroom we remodeled is our only bathroom, and we stayed and worked at home during the entire project. The HB team was completely mindful of this and made sure we never went more than a few hours without a working toilet. When time came for the inspections, Aidan and the team let us know how things would go and made sure we passed without any issues. We were quoted a January 1 2022 completion date, but went over that by a few weeks. Part of that was due to some unforeseen changes during the rough-in phase, and part was due to delays in the appliance arrival. Even though our Kitchen and Bath are pretty small, between the renders, cabinet configuration, and materials, they are exponentially brighter and more efficient spaces to live in. We ordered all of our appliances thru another vendor Dec 2020. We started our journey with HB in Feb 2021. We placed the deposit for cabinets and countertops in March 2021. Construction started May 2021 and was fully completed Aug 2021. The kitchen was fully functionally toward mid/end of June but we had them do much more. - full kitchen remodel - all new flooring: combination of engineered bamboo and carpet throughout the house (upstairs, downstairs, stairs and all rooms) - new interior wall paint (including doors) and baseboards - new door hardware installed - new recessed lighting throughout the house (Philips Hue ecosystem) - home theatre in-wall and ceiling speakers - new family room/home theatre room cabinetry (including custom ventilation fans) - replaced upstairs linen cabinetry - replaced laundry room cabinetry Overall, we our satisfied with the results. Like any home renovation, it doesn't always go smooth but Christine and Aiden were very patient, understanding and accommodating to ensure that we were happy. We remodeled our ENTIRE house with HB Kitchen and we're happy with how it turned out. This includes kitchen, bathrooms, flooring, electrical, paint, windows, doors, everything. Nothing in this house was left UNTOUCHED. Why did we go with HB Kitchen? I had never remodeled anything before so everything was new to me. We were comparing HB to KZ Kitchen and Bath and we decided on HB because they were a smaller one stop shop that could help us remodel the entire house and project manage everything, which they did. Also, if anything went wrong, I knew where I could find them since their showroom is in Hayward. Also, I could tell from my first interaction with Christine that service was important to them. HB feels like a local mom and pop shop that takes pride in their work and service. With such a huge project like ours, I needed a partner like this vs a larger company that may or may not be as responsive to my needs. What's the best part of working with them? Richard. Richard was my project manager and he was the best part about working with HB. I'm a busy guy with toddler kids and I knew before we started this whole project that I needed someone who could manage everything because I didn't have time. This was my biggest fear about remodeling the house but I had nothing to worry about because Richard was fantastic. He was professional, responsive and a pleasure to work with. If I had any issues or problems, I could just text him and he would respond with a solution or his recommendation. He listens well and accommodated all of my last minute changes and did so without any complaints or push back. I could not have asked for a better partner in this remodel. Ask for Richard if you decide to work with HB. Anything to beware of? We had a clear idea of what we wanted in our remodel so if you don't know exactly what you want, it may be challenging. I don't know how much design support they offer but we didn't need it because we knew EXACTLY how we wanted our place to look down to the materials, style, dimensions, etc. We would recommend them? Obviously, we would. They just remodeled our entire house and pretty much made it into a new construction home. If they can do that, they can do whatever you need. We started our remodeling of full house 1 year ago and find HB kitchen and bath online. We asked several quotes from different companies and HB is the best. Also Aidan is very nice and easy to communicate with. He makes useful suggestions on design and details. Then the remodeling started and things moved nicely and steadily. Aidan makes sure we are fine with everything before going on to the next step. And during the final touch up, Aidan helped to make sure we are happy with every single details. And finally we are very happy with the remodeling. We have heard from our friends who did remodeling and their contractor are hard to communicate with and the whole process for them are not satisfying. I had HB Kitchen Bath remodeled 2 of my bathrooms. I found their pricing to be the most competitive. The quality of work is great most of all. Additionally, the project manager - Aidan and tile guy- Hu are awesome. Aidan is very knowledgeable, attentive and prompt with replying to my questions/asks. Hu is a very skilled tile worker. Positioning and cutting the tiles accordingly to the space was key and Hu is an expert. Very little tiles wasted. Another great thing about them is that you have the option to buy the materials through them or buy them from a third party vendor. I really enjoyed working them and my bathrooms are beautiful! The project manager Wei and his crew were very fast and efficient in completing the project given the short timeline and a conservative budget. All employees were professional and respectful of out property. Wei was always available to answer any questions we had. His suggestions were spot on! Final results were beyond expectations! Our kitchen and bathroom remodel were a disaster. Almost everything that was done had to be done a second time, and for a few things a third and fourth time. Our bathroom looks nothing like what we designed. They had to take out the shower tiles and replace them. They also put in the wrong flooring but I kept it because we were about 5 months in and we really needed to finish. So the bathroom features don't match very well but everything is functional after them trying many times to get it right. The kitchen is still terrible. We finally just asked them to leave because we couldn't deal with them any more. Our pantry door doesn't open all of the way because they didn't measure correctly. The grout between the tiles on the floor is coming out after only one year because they had to redo the grouting 3 times and it looked fine after the last time but is now coming out. Our stove does not push back far enough because they did not cut the backsplash to correct height. Also the stove has gaps on either side of it because again they did not measure correctly. They had to move our kitchen sink because it was off center. They had to move our lights because those were also off center. I could go on and point out more things but I think this give an idea of what we have dealt with. I do not recommend working with them. read more

We underwent a bathroom remodel in 2020 and purchased finished materials from HB Kitchen and Bath. Unfortunately, after about 2 months of use, one of the white tiles in the floor of our shower turned orange. Note: it was only 1 tile in a sheet of tiles. We reached out to HB Kitchen and Bath and were told this was a natural occurring oxidization of the granite. However, it was only 1 tile in the whole shower floor! It took over 1 month to get a response from the company. Additionally, HB Kitchen refused to stand behind their product. They offered to provide more tile but no labor to replace the tile. a) Why is only 1 of the 100 tiles on the floor turning orange. If this was "natural", why wouldn't it be happening to all of the tiles? We have 1 single orange tile in an otherwise completely white shower. b) This tile has been in use for less than 3 months (happened within the first 2 months at which time we reported it). This discoloration is not normal wear and tear unless the product is poorly made. c) Why did they suggest we purchase an expensive, special cleaner if they knew this issue was due to normal oxidation or "natural occurrence"? d) We were never informed that this discoloration was a potential issue. If we had been informed, we would not have selected this product. If we had wanted an orange shower, we would have purchased orange tile. We are planning to replace our entire home's flooring and were thinking about utilizing HB Kitchen again. However, after this experience, we will definitely not be utilizing this company again. read more
