The showers were only 2-3 feet of space, dark and uncomfortable to shower in. Hardly any vanity space and the places the toilets were, were well, not the most spacious. We knew eventually we would have to renovate the bathrooms. Well, when we met Yaniv, we hired Shefer Builders to redo our roof. I could tell instantly he was an extremely detailed person. This filters down to the staff. The entire staff!! Talking with Yaniv during the roof project, we decided to have the company redo our bathrooms. This included a 3D designer, and a mobile showroom that came to the house so I could choose all the fun stuff. Everyone is so nice and comfortable to talk to about design and pricing. In addition, the crew and foremans were very helpful in explaining what they were doing throughout the enire projects. As for the kitchen: we had a dishwasher go bad and it leaked water all over including out the back of the house!! Well....perfect time to have Shefer Builder renovate the kitchen!! What a continued blessing to have the crews come back again and help in such a fine way. I have always loved cooking and baking but even more so now with my beautifully desinged, perfectly crafted and functional kitchen!! They give so much attention to the little things I did not even notice! Exceptional quality from everyone!! The crews were hard working, fun and really made the process a joy to experience. We will definately be calling to use them for any further things we need beautified at our home!!

He allowed us to control the design and appliance choices and readily provided in areas we were unsure of (ie, lighting, sources for countertop slabs, etc). He and his team were very responsive over the course of the project from initial consultation through final touch ups and got the job done in a reasonable amount of time given that it was started during the holidays (right before Thanksgiving and finished by New Year's). The area was kept clean and organized, workers courteous and the team communicated with us each step of the way. The final product is exactly what I had envisioned. We will not hesitate to reach out again to update other areas in our house or recommend Shefer.

Throughout the project he was very responsive and provided us with a lot of suggestions regarding the materials. His team is extremely hardworking and very detail oriented. They took extreme care in aligning the minor tile patterns, installing the vanity and lights perfectly symmetric. They are not in a haste to just finish the work, but they did the work with extreme perfection and attention to detail. I am very pleased with the remodel that Xi and his team did, and would love to work with them again for future projects! Highly recommend them!

From start to finish, the experience was professional, organized, and far less stressful than we ever expected a project of this scale to be. Ethan, our project manager, played a huge role in the success of this renovation. From the very beginning. Starting with the initial design discussions, he was proactive, transparent, and incredibly detail-oriented. He took the time to really understand our vision while also offering thoughtful, practical guidance based on his expertise. Ethan helped us refine the layout, select materials, and choose finishes that made sense both aesthetically and functionally, all while keeping the project within budget, which we greatly appreciated. One thing that really stood out was how thorough the planning phase was. Everything was carefully thought through before construction even began, which helped prevent unexpected issues or surprises along the way. That level of preparation gave us a lot of confidence and made the entire process feel smooth and well-managed. Throughout the project, Ethan coordinated seamlessly with designers, engineers, inspectors, and the construction team, handling all the moving parts with ease. Communication was consistent and clear, and we always felt informed about what stage the project was in. Any questions or concerns we had were addressed promptly, which made the entire renovation feel surprisingly stress-free. The quality of workmanship and finishes truly speaks for itself. Every detail feels intentional, well-executed, and professionally done. From the structural work involved in the second-story addition to the final design touches and landscaping, the craftsmanship exceeded our expectations. Our home feels completely transformed! More functional, more beautiful, and thoughtfully designed from top to bottom. Overall, BH Construction & Development delivered exactly what they promised: high-quality work, professionalism, and a well-managed renovation experience. We are extremely grateful to Ethan and the entire team for bringing our vision to life, and we would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone considering a major renovation or build. This was a big investment for us, and choosing BH Construction & Development was absolutely the right decision. Thank you SO much.

We had a very frustrating experience with this company and unfortunately cannot recommend them…read more What should have been a simple one-day door installation turned into a 13-day project filled with delays, poor communication, workmanship issues, and even a safety concern that left us uncomfortable in our own home and unable to use our infant son's nursery during that time. Timeline of events: Mon 2/16: Workers were scheduled for 9:30am but didn't arrive until after 1pm. They re-measured the frame, left to pick up doors (which we were told would already be ordered), and returned saying they were too large and needed shaving, pushing work to the next day. Tue 2/17: The worker arrived on time, but after installation we noticed cracks in the frame and a large gap between the doors where they barely latched. We reported it immediately and were told Alberto would come Thursday. Thu 2/19: Alberto worked all day and said there were finishing touches for Friday. We weren't thrilled with the result but were willing to move forward just to get our son's nursery functional again. Fri 2/20: Alberto admitted the installation had been done incorrectly and the damaged frame needed to be completely redone because the doors wouldn't work long term. While we appreciated the honesty, this reset the project timeline again. He said he'd return Saturday morning. Sat 2/21: At around 8:50am the appointment was rescheduled to Monday. Mon 2/23: We texted at 8:40am to confirm timing. Our message was read but not answered until 10:30am, and he didn't arrive until around 2pm due to another appointment. Tue 2/24: More frame work and putty were applied with instructions to allow a day to dry. Thu 2/26: Painters arrived as scheduled, but Alberto said he couldn't come until Friday and gave no clear arrival window. Fri 2/27: We asked for an ETA so we could plan around our 4-month-old's nap schedule. We were told 2pm, but the worker showed up at 1:15pm, waking the baby. He also didn't have proper tools and spent about five hours chiseling wood out of the door by hand just to get the bolts to fit. That same day we also experienced a serious safety concern. One worker used a metal circular saw indoors, sending sparks flying inside our home. When we raised concerns, the foreman dismissed it and incorrectly claimed sparks from cutting metal cannot start a fire. This got me mad and I did raise my voice. Instead of accountability, the conversation became defensive, including comments that they were "doing us a favor" fixing work we never requested- work that was only necessary because of the original installation mistakes. Our attempt to speak with Benny, the GC, was also frustrating. He repeatedly talked over us while saying he wanted to ensure we were happy, which felt disingenuous given the lack of listening or accountability. Sun 3/1: Alberto returned but left again for another three-hour stretch before finally coming back to complete the job. Nearly two weeks later, the doors were finally operational. Afterward we were told they were losing money because the project took longer and required redoing work. That is not the customer's responsibility. From day one we simply wanted the job done correctly. Throughout the process there were missed arrival windows, last-minute schedule changes, safety concerns, and little respect for our time or the disruption to our household. We also had to closely monitor workmanship due to frame damage and installation defects. I'm sure the company will respond, but everything described here is accurate and documented. This experience was exhausting and unnecessarily drawn out. If you value clear communication, punctuality, professionalism, and safe work practices done right the first time, I would strongly caution against using this company.

Everything was great until after we signed the contract. At that point, we were handed off to a…read moreproject manager and the experience changed completely. We felt dropped like a hot potato. Communication became poor, follow-through was lacking, and I did not feel that our project was being given the attention it had received before we signed. I ended up spending a significant amount of my own time handling product selections, procurement planning, logistics, and project coordination. I also had concerns about the deposit terms at the beginning of the project. The company initially attempted to collect a larger deposit than I understood California law to allow for a home improvement contract, and I had to push back before the amount was corrected. One of the biggest concerns for me was the permitting process. I contacted both the city and my HOA to verify the status and was told that the required permits/approvals had not been requested at that time. After I raised the discrepancy and did not receive a response, the company proceeded with permit-related activity after I had already communicated that we were cancelling the project. When we ultimately decided not to proceed with the remodel, I notified the company that we wanted to cancel the project. Despite that notice, the company subsequently filed for permits for the project after I had already told them we were cancelling. On 9/3, I spoke with their representative and was told that my $1,000 deposit would be refunded and that we would mutually terminate the contract. After that conversation, they stopped responding. I followed up repeatedly and did not receive a substantive response until 9/10, after I made clear that I would escalate the matter if I continued to receive no response. On 9/10, the company reversed its position and told me that the $1,000 deposit would not be refunded because of work they claimed had already been performed. Their representative then acknowledged in writing that what she was telling me was different from what she had told me during our phone call. I have attached that message to this review so readers can see the company's response directly. The company is now claiming that the entire $1,000 will be retained for work performed. I have requested an itemized accounting and supporting documentation showing exactly what work was performed and the costs they claim justify retaining the full deposit. I strongly dispute their characterization of the amount of work performed, particularly given how much of the product selection, procurement planning, logistics, and project coordination I handled myself. I am continuing to pursue resolution of this dispute. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend that anyone considering this company document everything, verify the deposit terms, and get every representation regarding payments, cancellation, and refunds in writing before signing. California generally limits home-improvement down payments to $1,000 or 10% of the contract price, whichever is less, subject to limited exceptions. I would also recommend ensuring that subsequent payments correspond to work actually completed or materials delivered. To date, they have not provided me with an itemized accounting showing what work they contend was completed and the value assigned to that work. Much of the communication and project coordination during this period was initiated by me.

Some highlights I'd call out are they have great subcontractors and technicians. The tiling, paint job, electrical... everything was fantastic, and everyone was super easy to work with. We've always had communications / language barriers when working with workers in the past, so it was nice to be able to answer questions or give feedback directly onsite without having to wait for Umid to jump in. I also found Cotfort trustworthy and reasonable. For one, I decided to try an online-only tile company which led to terrible delays to the project (my fault there), and they were patient with reschedules though I know it caused them headaches. They also stepped in to make things right, without hesitation, when their countertop fabricator accidentally installed the wrong floor curb on the shower. Another sign of trustworthiness: I asked them to come back after the work was done to change out one of the accessories in the bathroom... they really had no obligation to but they did anyway. There were definitely some hiccups, like in all projects, but it helped a lot that they were responsive, flexible, and communicative. I never felt like they were trying to nickel and dime us or recommend something outside of our interests.

Pricing is transparent: Their quote for labor (demolition and installation) was reasonable and easy to understand. We also received a separate quote for their designer. We purchased the materials directly from shops based on the design, which gave us full control over our budget and choices. Excellent work ethic: The entire team was responsive and courteous. Any question we had was answered immediately. On-site, the crew was professional and did their best to keep the work area tidy, sweeping up at the end of every day, even during the messy demolition phase. Best design support: The designer was excellent. She accompanied us to various stores to select tiles, fixtures, cabinets, and vanities, always pointing out the best price-to-value options. She was patient throughout our decision-making process and truly kept our best interests at heart. Quality first: The project took 8 weeks, which included the Thanksgiving holiday and waiting for city inspections. We appreciated that they never rushed the installation. For example, they ensured the tiles cured properly before moving to the next phase and prioritized a beautiful tile layout over a "quick" one. We are very pleased with the end result and the entire process. Thank you to the Cotfort team for your hard work and the genuine care you put into our home!
