Project: Kitchen Refinishing Sr. Project Manager: Idan My overall experience working with Modular Remodeling and Design was great from start to finish.  And collaborating with Idan is one of the most informative and educational experiences I have ever had with a project manager.  And although my initial meeting with Idan was about installing new flooring throughout my house, Idan had the sense that it wasn't really what I wanted but instead to change my very outdated kitchen with vinyl wall paneling. My kitchen was the biggest eyesore in my house, and I have always wanted to change it but I thought it was impossible until Idan explained about Kitchen refinishing and how it is less expensive than a full kitchen remodeling. Since the project started, Idan was always there answering any of my questions and concerns I have about everything including the kitchen sink. We are wrapping up a huge full house renovation of over 2,500 square feet. Modular was there with us every step of the way. We mapped out all the work and expectations and plans several months in advance. This was an extremely complicated and detailed project. The Job: Replace flooring condo-wide, add recessed lights, add ceiling fans, and replace a bathroom vanity. Lead Contractor: Erez Review: Overall the job was done well and Erez and his team were great to work with. Erez was responsive to any questions or requests we had, and handled any unexpected issues we faced throughout the process. The bathroom vanity replacement and electrical installation (recessed lights and ceiling fans) were completed quickly and seamlessly. Both jobs look great and function as expected. I can only fault the contractor's tardiness in preparing the electrical inspection with the city, which dragged out the job a couple weeks longer than expected due to rescheduling the inspection. The flooring process went well but had some hiccups along the way. Erez and his team ultimately guided us to a great new flooring material, and told us the floor would be quick and easy to install since our floor was leveled, but after installation we had to point out many imperfections with the floor due to misleveling. For example, some parts of the floors would either shift laterally or pop vertically when stepped on. Fortunately, Erez fixed the imperfections we caught and promised to fix any new ones we find in the future. For that, we are thankful for Erez's work and effort, and would recommend him in the future. read more

They always have people on the site to finish the work. Unlike other company, who would work 2 week here then off for 1-2 weeks and resume works for 1-2 weeks and then off again for 1-2 weeks. They are very prompt in doing their works. The price is very competitive with others. But most important is the quality of their works. We requested a quote for removal of popcorn ceiling in our 1,001 square foot condo, painting of 2 bedrooms, living room and small kitchen and installing bamboo flooring. The sales person quoted us $8,000 to remove the popcorn ceiling, $6500 to paint the interior and $8860 to install bamboo flooring (this did not include the actual bamboo flooring). I remarked the quote seemed quite high based on the research I had done before requesting quotes, to which the salesman said he stands by his work. We received additional quotes after the Modular quote and NONE of them came close to the quote Modular Remodeling offered. Both quotes were from licensed and highly rated contractors, I might add. Additionally the salesperson was to send an email to me with their business card, which I never received. Likely the email didn't come after my feedback to him about the exorbitant quote he offered me. Very disappointing and I'm curious if the Modular quote given was based on my being a woman without my fiancé present for the quote? Suffice it to say we did not follow through with this quote and found contractors to do the work for well under the Modular quote. read more

Update: The company has sense called me and asked me why I gave them this review. They replied that they never told my husband that it was too small of a project. They are saying that they told my husband they are too busy with other larger projects to do ours right now. If that was the case why would they take the time to come out and see our project? If you know you're too busy to take on more projects then you don't go out looking for more projects. We made a point of writing down what they said after they left etc, the guy also probably isn't aware that we have a security system that includes cameras in the house so we have the whole conversation recorded. To quote him "There isn't really enough here for us to bring the whole team we normally work on for a project, it's too small for us". My husband then asked if he wanted to put together a quote for the work and they replied back with "no, we recommend you hire the different individuals you would need, ie carpet, electrician etc". Original Review: We just had these guys over for a quote. We wanted to get the carpet taken out of three bedrooms and put in hard wood floor. Fix some lighting by taking out chandeliers and putting in recessed lighting. Put lighting in the garage and figure out a barn yard style door system for an arch way we have that we want to make into an office. Also looked at doing a hide away door. Why the one star? They said the project isn't big enough for them to want to do. I absolutely hate when companies say this. Our project has multiple different areas (floors, lighting/ electricity, remodel a door way etc) which is much easier to do with one contractor, vs hiring three different contractors, which is what they suggested we do. It says right in their yelp description "major and minor renovation", they don't stand by that. Companies who don't do these "smaller" projects are only in it for the money. read more

Having previously worked in both commercial and residential property management, I know what a rarity it is to find a good contractor. It took three years, but I finally found my go-to company for all things repair/remodel related. Thanks to Modular, I know that any property repairs will be done promptly and professionally. I've wasted countless hours interviewing companies and collecting quotes in the past and I can't begin to convey what a relief it is to know that our contractor is not only trustworthy and qualified, but not ripping us off. Goldilocks had it right - don't go for prices that are too high or too low (low quality = low price), but just right. The cherry on top was the customer service. Clearly, I haven't had great experiences with repair contractors in the past. All too often, companies will try to get you to pay more than 10% up front - unless there is a payment plan set up in accordance to completion of work, that is illegal. Unfortunately, that happens all too often... this was NOT the case with Modular. I was pleasantly astonished when Idan presented a folder for us which not only included the insurance, bond, and license documents, but a wonderful explanation of what is due upon the completion of each stage of work... and I didn't even have to ask! Our project started last August when my husband first contacted Modular. Both Cher Rowland and Idan were fast in coming over to assess what could be done into making our home our ideal living space! Our kitchen and living room was originally outdated and also had a random wall in between. Idan was great at taking measurements and envisioning the open floor plan we wanted. Cher was great at making things happen quickly with the contractors, and ensuring that the end result was perfect! She was very detailed and pointed out anything that needed improvement. She also took time out of her day to go shopping with us when choosing materials like our quartz and kitchen island. Because SJ is infamous when it comes to getting a permit for the wall removal, Cher also made sure we had our kitchen redone and ready ahead of time! We also appreciated the hard work their contractors, especially Juan for instance, put in. He came over to fix any issues that arose from construction. Along the way, we did encounter some challenges (a duct suddenly being cut causing a delay in completion), but I'm glad we were able to work through them in the end. :) One feedback I would give is to ensure we have our copies of approved permits/ invoices in a timely manner once our account is closed. Account was closed at the end of April, and it took a couple of months to finally get them all. Other than that, we're very happy with the end result! It took about 9 months total, but it's like living in a new home! read more
