The underside damage that the exploding tire did to my trailer!
    Bob F.

My wife and I have not ever hired Oren Atia of OCA Builders to build anything for us but we want to tell a story about his character which we admire. Our trailer tire exploded on highway 17 coming back from camping and AAA sent two trucks and the highway patrol and they tried to help us but couldn't because the damage was so great underneath the right side of my trailer, it took out the floor and the cabinet supports, electric wires, water and propane pipes, etc. So AAA tried to find a 'lowboy' flatbed trailer to haul our trailer to a repair facility close by or to Sacramento where we live. We would have to pay for it and then AAA would reimburse us if we could find one. When they couldn't find one, they all left, but the CHP office stayed on the phone with us trying to get a lowboy trailer. When they said they couldn't find one and couldn't help us, we now had to find one ourself. It was 4 PM on Monday, May 3, 2021. We were trying to figure out what to do next when a "Good Samaritan" with the name Oren Atia of OCA general contracting stopped his truck when he saw me sitting in a lawn chair next to the truck on curb side of the highway. He took a look at the problem and said "I believe everything is fixable." He had a sawsall and shears and a floor jack in his pickup. So he cut away the sharp metal, wires, broken water and propane pipes that were wrapped around both tires, etc. He changed the tire with our spare and made sure it looked safe. My wife gave him our JW.org contact card and offered him cash but which he promptly refused! He said "it wouldn't be a good deed if he was paid." We said it was a gift and he still refused saying to "spend it on your grandkids!" So we will have to think of a something to send him in the way of a gift. Thankfully it was not dark because we're driving now without brake lights or turning signals on the trailer. You can tell by his character that this is the type of person you would want working on whatever project that you want to do for your house. We could've been stuck on the road all night as has happened in the past to others before they were able to get help and had to stay in a motel or in their trailer. We made it home safely to Sacramento that evening, and if he was not so far away, we would have him do the work on our trailer!

Oren and his crew are excellent. They did a major bath remodel and we were very happy with them. They show up every day on time, they clean up the site each afternoon and they don't cut corners. Unlike a lot of contractors, Oren will actually answer the phone or call you back promptly. They didn't have any issues installing higher-end items like a wall mount toilet, lighted medicine cabinets, specialty vanity and custom shower. We would definitely use OCA again.

We liked Sarmad's communication style - methodical and efficient, no extra words. Sarmad was incredibly efficient at managing our project. He made sure to schedule inspections right as we reached each checkpoint in the construction, so every day was optimized. As a result, our project from demolition to completion took just about 4 months. One aspect of our project that we worked closely with Sarmad on was to customize a computer server closet. Specifically, we wanted the closet to be soundproofed and have its own temperature control. Sarmad was very accommodating in our requests to install soundproofing insulation, and even suggested QuietRock drywall to enhance soundproofing. We also worked with the team to install conduits throughout the extension for future cable runs. Throughout the process, Sarmad was responsive to our questions and our requests.

Pricing is transparent: Their quote for labor (demolition and installation) was reasonable and easy to understand. We also received a separate quote for their designer. We purchased the materials directly from shops based on the design, which gave us full control over our budget and choices. Excellent work ethic: The entire team was responsive and courteous. Any question we had was answered immediately. On-site, the crew was professional and did their best to keep the work area tidy, sweeping up at the end of every day, even during the messy demolition phase. Best design support: The designer was excellent. She accompanied us to various stores to select tiles, fixtures, cabinets, and vanities, always pointing out the best price-to-value options. She was patient throughout our decision-making process and truly kept our best interests at heart. Quality first: The project took 8 weeks, which included the Thanksgiving holiday and waiting for city inspections. We appreciated that they never rushed the installation. For example, they ensured the tiles cured properly before moving to the next phase and prioritized a beautiful tile layout over a "quick" one. We are very pleased with the end result and the entire process. Thank you to the Cotfort team for your hard work and the genuine care you put into our home!

All prior interior work in our house had been done by handyman. I really appreciated the communication from our project manager Marc. He created a WhatsApp chat with me and the incredible designer Jocelyn. They were both consistently responsive to any of my questions or concerns -- and opened my mind to design options. Jocelyn spent time in our home, drafted plans, took me shopping, and sourced all the fixtures. From her spreadsheet I was able to find less expensive options for some items. I appreciated the input and control I had on these expenses. Since we needed to move out, I had a tight timeline for the project -- mid October until Thanksgiving. Marc and the team did their best despite City of San Jose delays with inspections. We were able to move back in before the final inspection. Every member of the team was kind and courteous. Marc also did a great job working with the window vendor that specializes in older homes. I'm rating the experience a 4.5 out of 5 for two reasons. I was disappointed that the medicine cabinet, switch plates, and hooks were initially installed unevenly (it was corrected). I expected more attention to detail. And I was disappointed in the wear & tear that happened on my wood floors as well as the overall dust in my dining room. I was warned that things would get dusty -- but didn't understand the extent and would have packed away more things. WISE offers lots of support with design -- they could also offer as part of their package a full cleaning! I offer this feedback to help others calibrate their expectations. Overall it was a positive experience. I waited several months to post this review until I returned from travel and could see how things were settling after regular use. I'm loving the new bathroom and recommend WISE.

Overall the experience was very good; Elijah and Bryan were super friendly and responsive. Eli was very patient and accommodating as we discussed several different potential change orders, from new windows to painting, to other misc. things that popped up. Bryan Luna was especially a pleasure to work with. His attention to detail and proactivity to solve any little thing I mentioned was definitely the highlight of working with Prime. Their contracted electrician, Hector, was great as well. I also think they did a great job building out a cabinet to fit our freezer next to the matching fridge. Their master carpenter managed to salvage our existing wood to make it match perfectly. Definitely better than what I'd expect from even a carpentry specialty contractor. I will mention that it wasn't without some snags. Prime deals in volume so they're very busy. I think because I had delays in sourcing a freezer I ended up not getting a dedicated project manager for some time. We had timeline issues made worse with holidays. This caused cascading delays which inevitably pushed back my move in date a few weeks. When I finally did get a new project manager, they ghosted me (later on I found out they had a family emergency). Eli had to step in again to help. Another thing is that their pricing is quite opaque. The estimate will break down prices by milestones, but they repeated told me that it's not a valuation of the milestone itself. This made it nigh impossible to understand if I wanted to contract out specific pieces of the project (e.g. flooring). Design was OK. I felt that the designer was very busy. Sometimes very responsive (5min replies), sometimes not responsive at all (no reply). I wish I had a better, more thorough back-and-forth session about the intricacies of the design. But we made do. Ultimately, the designer made a render and helped point us to some vendors, but from there we had to make our own selection alone (cabinets, handles, pendant lights, faucets, etc.). I did appreciate her presence when we picked out countertops, though. All in all, I think this was a 4.5 star job, but I'm rounding to 5 because of Eli and Bryan :)

Overall, the project went well, and we're happy with the final results. Bryan, our foreman, was a strong asset to the project. Even though he was managing multiple jobs at the same time, his responsiveness and willingness to go out of his way to address our concerns made a big difference. Because we were home throughout the process, we were able to catch issues early and communicate them directly to Bryan, who consistently followed through to resolve them. What Went Well: * The tile and flooring subcontractors were excellent - their craftsmanship and attention to detail truly stood out. * Bryan, our foreman, was responsive to texts and phone calls, listened to our concerns, and made sure they were addressed. He even designed a bi-fold closet door for us, and helped pick up all the material to build it. * Bryan also took the initiative to handle several unfinished items himself, which we really appreciated. * The post-build cleaners were top-notch and left the space in pristine condition. * Throughout the project, everyone we interacted with was professional, courteous, and conscientious. There were no conflicts or issues, which made the experience comfortable for us. Areas for Improvement: * The timeline was a pain point. While we were originally told the project would take 6-8 weeks, it ended up stretching to 12 weeks. * The design process fell short of expectations. Because Prime's in-house designers weren't available, our design work was outsourced. We only received a full design package for the master bathroom. As a result, we ended up creating our own renderings for the other rooms to help communicate our vision to the team. That said, we were very happy with the design and material selections for the master bathroom they did complete. We just wish the same level of attention and design support had been provided for the rest of the project. * At times, resource availability was limited, likely due to workers being assigned to multiple jobs. This led to workflow inefficiencies and delays. Toward the end of our renovation, our foreman Bryan had to personally step in to complete several tasks, such as installing faucets, shelving, and baseboards. He managed to get it done in between site visits and meetings, which we appreciated, but it also highlighted a lack of available crew to close out the project. Despite these few challenges, the quality of the work met our expectations. We appreciated the team's effort and the final outcome.
