"OG" Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich Combo with Waffle Fries
    Steve A.

Frying pan has an extensive menu, but the star item is their Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, which they call the "OG". It's the classic combination of chicken breast fried to a crisp brown, with spicy sauce, spicy mayo, slaw, and sweet pickles. It was as good as any I've had in Nashville. A word of warning, though: I like spicy food, but I would classify the Medium here as Hot, so proceed with caution. The combo is a good deal. It comes with a drink and a huge serving of wonderful waffle fries, also cooked to a perfect crispness. Service is very friendly.

Super good! The chicken was very thick, fresh and juicy. I would have liked more of a hot sauce on the chicken but would get it again anyways. Had lots on the menu so would try their fry dishes next! The inside was fine, not too much of an atmosphere but lots of seats and close to the beach so probably more popular for takeout

They're quite a cheery bunch in here and have excellent service. However, I feel that the mainstays of this chicken joint, which are chicken burgers and waffle fries, leave something to be desired. It's not about the spices or the brioche bun or fresh cabbage, but I just feel that the chicken is overly battered and oily. The fries were more chewy than crunchy. Great location on Denman Street but I'll continue my search for a better place

I'd read great things about the OG Hot Chicken Sandwich here and it definitely did not disappoint. You can select your spice level, I went full tilt and got the aptly named 911 Sauce, which was indeed hot but not melt your tongue off. Large piece of protein, bun held up against the Slaw and jice from the Pickles. There is a heck of a lot of other things I want to eat on the menu; like I watched someone next to me absolutely housing some form of taco with a fried cheese skirt. Menu envy achieved. Prices are a bit steep, $15 for the sandwich only, like $20 if you want Fries. Service was polite, bathroom was clean, lots of seating.

Yum! Finally got to try out frying pan. Was seated very promptly. Service was very nice but the food took forever to come out unfortunately. The food itself was great. The hot and sweet honey garlic chicken sandwich ($15.90) was massive and tasty. The chicken was still juicy and the sauce was great. I added the waffle fries combo for $4 - they're tasty but wish it came with more fries. My friend got the chicken and waffles ($15.90) and it was also delicious. The waffle was nice and fluffy. I got the blue lemonade and it was sweet and refreshing but it was a little pricy at $6.

Really delicious hot chicken! We were really hungry after a long bike ride in Stanley Park and we had been saving this place for that exact situation. It was relatively close (it is uphill so keep this in mind) so we were excited to stop. The restaurant is small but has plenty of tables to eat comfortably inside. We ordered quickly and the food took about 10 minutes to come out. It's definitely fresh as every bite you take released the steam from cooking. I ordered the OG Chicken extra spicy and in my opinion it was perfect! The cashier explained that the level below is equal to sriracha so try that out if you don't like too much spice. To coleslaw, house mayo and pickles definitely cut the spice down, but at the end I was feeling the tingle a bit which I didn't mind at all (actually what I wanted). The seasoned waffle fries were perfect and I loved eating them with the house mayo.

If you love chicken, come here. Chicken tenders very juicy and flavorful, so good with the house sauce. Honey butter chicken was so yummy, half order. Lots of food and can be shared.

I always forget how many hidden gems exist on Denman, and the brick and mortar iteration of Frying Pan is one of them. The fried chicken sandwiches were all very good--juicy, both the breast and thigh, soft buns, no skimping on the toppings. The mozza yangnyeom sandwich was particularly delightful; the sweet and spicy sauce also had a surprisingly pleasant fragrance of cinnamon. I didn't love the kimchi slaw on the padak sandwich; I thought it was a tad overpowering compared to the rest of the sandwich. The waffle fries were also quite good, crispy outside and fluffy inside, the mark of fries well done. The best part is that everything is freshly fried to order, and nothing left me feeling greasy/heavy. I'll definitely be back!

Korean Yang-Nyeom Chicken Breast Rice Bowl (to-go)

This is a hidden gem. My partner and I got takeaway from here a few days ago, our first time trying it out. I got the Korean yang-nyeom chicken breast rice bowl, and we shared some waffle fries. The chicken was cooked perfectly - it was crunchy, sweet, savoury and just the right amount of salty. There was a sweet, tangy teriyaki-like sauce on the lettuce & rice underneath which tasted awesome. The waffle fries were crispy & I dipped them into the egg which came on the rice bowl - yum! Can't say much for the interior decor as we took our food to go, but they were very helpful and accommodating with my peanut allergy (They use no peanuts in the restaurant apparently!) If you need a quick place to grab a snack while you're at English Bay beach, this is a great place to try.

Stopped here for a quick lunch bite to eat and was pleasantly surprised! Cute little shop with plenty of seating right on Denman Street. Was greeted right away by the friendly cashier working, and got great vibes from the staff! Ordered the Dirty Hot Chicken Fries because I was wanting to try something new and I think I found a new favorite dish. Even though it was a little more on the expensive side, the waffle fries pairing with the juicy breaded spiced chicken was heavenly. My wife and I scarfed down this platter so quickly we were getting weird looks from the other customers. I just wish we came into this restaurant with more room in our stomachs because I wanted to try so many different things from here. If y'all are foodies like my wife and I, we highly suggest giving this spot a try!

Can't ask for anything more when you combine freshly cooked fries with crispy bacon bits and stretchy cheese. Then drizzled with mayo and dotted with teriyaki sauce, you have the ultimate fusion poutine experience. The house teriyaki sauce really takes it to another level with its scrumptious umami flavour, really letting the dish shine and really harmonized with the othe flavours. Once you start eating you can't stop!

This has been a bucket list hit for awhile as they incorporate an Asian element in their cuisine. They also serve fried chicken which we just love! We split a regular hot chicken sandwich and yang nyeom sandwich. We also got the smoked beef bulgogi fries and hot chicken tacos. First, the regular hot chicken sandwich was pretty good, both sandwichs had a huuge piece of fried chicken at the center, however they were both slightly dry which is always my gripe with chicken sandwiches as it's hard to get it tender and moist all the way through. Also, the yang nyeom style chickn sandwich has a slightly sweet and spicy sauce. I just don't think it worked well with the pickles as there was just too much going on. The pickles and the sweet sauce didn't make the best combination. Aside from that, we ordered the hot chicken tacos which were reaallly just average or slightly under. Chicken was slightly overcooked and garnished with slivered onions, green onion and topped with a spicy mayo. Though, my favorite part of the meal was the smoked beef bulgogi waffle fries. The beef was super tender, it was a subtle sweetness from the teriyaki sauce, house mayo and finished with sour cream. Overall, I thought all the flavors here worked really well with each other. If anything, i'd come back for the smoked beef bulgogi fries :)

Sometimes you gotta give a place a second chance. I tried multiple items from Frying Pan twice in one week. The first time, we ordered Dirty Hot Chicken Fries, Chicken Tenders and Waffle Fries. The Dirty Hot Chicken Fries were good, but not mind-blowing. In comparison to the chicken tenders and waffle fries though, they were a lot more flavourful and moist. We found the Chicken Tenders on the dryer side and the waffle fries a bit lacklustre. Needless to say, I was a little disappointed. Fast forward two days later - I go again with a friend. This time, we each grab Hot Chicken Sandwiches (Mild Hot) and Smoked Beef "Bulgogi" Fries. OH MY. This time, the food was REAL GOOD. The chicken sandwiches were a wonderful culmination of flavours. The chicken was moist and wonderfully crisp. The bulgogi fries were just delicious - I mean, you can't really go wrong with bulgogi but this was definitely a lot more enjoyable. So, lessons learned - sometimes you gotta try a place a couple times and order something diff hahaha

I came in to check for a sauce my friend asked for but stayed for a bite! Did I mention that this place is cheap AF!? I don't know how they do it but it's incredibly affordable and the quality of food is impressive! I got their Veggies on Fire (Cheddar, lettuce, sprouts, tomato, cucumber, green pepper, pickles, red onion, banana peppers, Dijon, spicy mayo - Hot Sauce: Dawson's Shawarma). This was $8. Plus I added waffle fries, which I don't even care for. But these were heavily seasoned and cooked to perfection. The sandwiches come with chips but you can't miss the fries. You can choose which breads you want and I choose sourdough. Highly recommend that you toast that bread. The sandwich was huge and staked with so many veggies. The hot sauce was very mild but paired so well. The service was phenomenal! Above and beyond and so friendly. The place gets quite busy, understandable, and they are still so patient and friendly. I can't wait to try their extensive menu and order their veggie friendly menu options! And, obvy, their 1000 hot sauces!

There are some small tables for two along with high tables. I ordered the 'hot' sandwich, chicken parm. I was expecting crispy chicken parm with yummy cheese and rich tomatoe sauce. Let's be honest, the star of this show is the bread! The baguette was warm, soft and so delicious. However, that's where the excitement stopped for me. The chicken with breading was soggy and the pesto and mozzarella was such a small amount, it felt like a soggy chicken sandwich with lots of bread. If they put more pesto dressing, more mozzarella cheese and more tomatoe sauce, I could have looked past the soggy chicken. All in all, I'm glad it tried it, the bread is amazing, and I'll come back to try a 'cold' sandwich to see if the other options are better!
