I sure do love this place. The vibe is great, it's clean, it's cozy, it's love in a cup. I always get the iced coffee, and theirs runs a little on the bitter side which is a-ok to me. My favorite was when they had EPICA red wine, it was THE BESTTTTTTTT and it was the saddest visit when we came for some glasses of it and it was long gone. I loved the manager that took the time to get us hooked on a different type of wine with tiny tasters. The rose was pretty good so we settled with that. However the red they chose to replace EPICA was NOT EPIC ya know what I'm saying? It's usually pretty loud so it's difficult to come and do work that requires phone calls. Worst lunch experience in years! My wife and I arrived at 1:00 pm today. We were told there was a 30-45 minute wait for a table. We were seated after 20 minutes, the only thing positive about our experience. Our waitress came with water, took our order and brought our ice tea. She never came back to our table. Forty five minutes later my wife had to go ask what happened to our order and when our food would be ready. She was told there were still a few orders ahead of ours, but she asked the kitchen to make ours a priority. Just as we were thinking about leaving without eating, our food arrived. My wife's salad was missing the avocado, a key ingredient. My turkey Royale sandwich had one piece of fried turkey, and a piece of bacon (which I specifically declined as an extra charge item). The meat was tough and chewy, not very flavorful. We asked for our check when the food was served, but it took another 10+ minutes to arrive. To their credit, they gave us a 50% discount, but they did not seem like our bad experience was important. We will not be going back, ever. Update: I just read other reviews complaining about the same type of problems we experienced. Two things stand out: 1. The owner's don't care about bad reviews because they never respond. 2. This has been a consistent complaint (bad & slow service, poor food quality) for years. They must be surviving on tourists who are passing through town. read more

Honestly, I wished there was an extra star for this review. Some places just shine above all others, and this is one of those places. If the Smithsonian had a food section (and it should) and there a few menu items from Frothy Monkey that I would put in there. We brought the entire family in on a Saturday Night at dinner time, we were able to order and find a seat and table for all 6 of us...including a high chair. Clearly the word is not out on the Steak and Eggs, or the Artisan Cheese Plate with boiled peanuts (brilliant). The service is top notch, especially considering it's an order at the front and go sit with your number establishment. The service staff clearly CARE about the future of this place and really went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. We even had to send a dish back, and the amazing attitude displayed by all three staff members we interacted with during the "re-fire" was exemplary. Never once did we feel rebuffed, and they took the concern very seriously, and fixed it...with a smile The espresso alone is worth the trip to Frothy Monkey, but they are far from just an excellent coffee shop. I was really excited to see a Frothy Monkey pop up in Franklin to compete with the less personal Five Points Starbucks that recently got rid of most of its comfortable seating. I went twice during its first week open and understandably it was a good experience but they have a few kinks to work out. First, the ordering system is clunky and SLOW. I am used to giving my order and *boom* being done. It seems like their iPad ordering system is more of a video game the employee needs to play in order to get your order correct. They had to navigate through screen after screen in order to complete my order of drip coffee and oatmeal. Second, Quality is only "Meh" Coffee is expensive and ordinary. I ordered a medium sized mocha that was almost $5 which seemed a bit steep. I appreciated the foam art that came with it. But the portion size seemed like a small so I didn't feel I got the value for my money. There also seemed to lack much mocha flavor in the drink. The oatmeal could have been used to patch a hole in the drywall. Thick and flavorless. Meh. Third, customer service was lacking. I asked the barrister for a refill and they said it would be $.50 which is reasonable, but there was a line of about 6 other people waiting to order and I don't ever carry cash. They said I would have to wait in line if I wanted to pay for my refill with a card. #Fail. I am disappointed with the Five Points Starbucks that has turned into a "Get in/Get out--please don't stay around" coffee bar lacking personality. I am happy to see competitors channeling for this space in Franklin. I hope that FM addresses these needs so that those who don't care for Starbucks are satisfied. read more

Rude baristas and underwhelming coffee. The aesthetic was nice but their espresso, service, and technique does not live up to the hype. Not bad, but not memorable or worth the money. Also decided not to eat here after being told there'd be a 2hr wait to even be seated. Side note: parking is a few dollars per hour. As someone who used to work in coffee and is an at home barista, I can say the Latte wasn't steamed properly, shots over extracted, and general vibes were unwelcoming. Either the staff hasn't been properly trained in the craft of coffee or they aren't paid enough to care. I'd say try Crema, Farm City Coffee, or Honest Coffee Roasters instead. read more

I stopped by the Franklin located Frothy Monkey for a quick brunch. The atmosphere and vibe is fun but they seem to be a little lost with the scene they're targeting - are they a trendy weekend brunch spot or a coffee shop that happens to serve food? I think the scene issue could be solved by seating people with waitresses instead of ordering in a line and waiting on the food to come to you. Nonetheless, their coffee is definitely a little overpriced and the food is in line with city prices despite being all the way out in downtown Franklin. Given I was in the South, I definitely ordered the loaded biscuits and gravy. I was fairly disappointed by the biscuits - they were not your typical fluffy and buttery biscuits that you usually enjoy in the South. Instead they were extremely heavy/doughy and seemed to lack flavor. The gravy was a bit better than the actual biscuits but nothing to rave about. We chose this cafe due to they hype they cater to special diets. They don't--at all. The waitress kept forgetting and giving us things we couldn't eat. All of the staff seemed out of it. I realized I had eaten, without knowing it, all the things we went there to avoid. Beyond that the "brisket" was the worst "bbq" we had ever had. Gray, stringy like spaghetti and cold. This Frothy Monkey location has a great porch and cozy yet spacious interior. I had time to kill while downtown and decided my jet lag needed a caffeine kick. The staff was friendly and helpful when we stared indecisively at the menu (see also: jet lag). The espresso-based drinks were just right. Bonus points because they have the real almond milk, not the sugar-added stuff so many coffee shops stock. There's a cute fireplace and the place was well decorated for the holidays. Feels like a piece of New York in the middle of Franklin. I love the community vibe here. This place is always packed. The food and coffee is Fantastic, but what stands out to me the most is the staff. They are always so warm and kind and seem genuinely happy to be there. I was there last night and my car battery died. One of the employees Noah(I had never met any of them before) ran out to his car and grabbed some jumper cables to help me along with another patron. Our car is a newer hybrid so finding the battery was difficult to say the least and took about 30 minutes to get me back up and running but they all stuck with me the entire time. One of the other waitresses even walked out to asked if she could get us hot coffee or anything because it was freezing out. I know charging car batteries is not their line of work, but needed to share the heart of the place. Pretty busy both days I went, but they get through it like champs, and friendly enough for light conversation while ordering. Love the coffee! I also ordered the omelette and it was delicious - I'll add that the piece of sourdough and jam that came with it were my favorite part of the meal, so I might go breakfast sandwich next time, and I will absolutely be back! Local friend recommended this during our visit. The coffee was good. I had a mocha monkey(?) which was a delicious coffee with a hint of banana. So nice! At first it seems like seating is limited, but there's a room at the back corner (to the far right and back if you're ordering) and upstairs. It's an old style building, so we had to carry our stroller up to the porch as I didn't see a ramp (though there was maybe one somewhere else? Wasn't easily seen). Embarrassing. Our parents are in town from England and we took them today for lunch along with our 18 month old baby. After a 20 minute wait we were taken to our table and left to wait another 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. When they finally took our order one of us ordered a charcuterie plate as our main and the waiter, who had an obviously fresh hire shadowing him, decided to bring the board 20 minutes before everyone elses meal. We ended up waiting 35 minutes for our food only to have the waiter tell us they had forgotten my infants meal. By this time everything had taken so long the poor thing was so hungry she was in tears and we had to console her and feed her off our plates for another 10 minutes before her meal came. To top it off it was only after 20 minutes of waiting that I was told my burger would have to be served on sliced bread since they were out of buns. So ridiculous. The cherry on top was when the waiter not only charged us for my daughters late meal ($6) but also tacked on a muffin we didnt even order. It was an embarrassing and stressful experience. Worse than the 45 minute wait for food was the message from a server that they were out of what we had ordered. Continuing the downward slide, they were out of most of what we tried to order. In the end, I settled on "just give me one of your salads." Even that was missing the highly acclaimed avocado. The serve did apologetically bring some. Ultimately, it was a good salad, but a horrible experience. Bottom line, if the Frothy Monkey looks busy...stay away. read more

After seeing so many great reviews and IG pics, I finally made it ... really just stumbled upon the Franklin location. Went for breakfast...lunch caught my eye ....ordered the Randy and left disappointed. The service/staff was great! Location and ambiance two thumbs up. My sourdough bread was really toasted and if it wasn't for the sake of time I would have requested new bread. Tuna was flavorful however I had more crunchy bread than tuna.
