Bowl - The Freshroll

Best snack food around berkekey when you need a quick bite or on the move while studying. Usually service is quite fast and the workers are friendly. Not a lot of space inside but very well lit and good seating. Usually a takeaway spot for me but great portions.

I love Freshroll! I mainly get their chicken rolls and I love their original sauce and peanut sauce. The little crunchy bits they put in the roll really make it so much better than a regular roll. Definitely check this place out and 2 rolls is enough to fell full and satisfied.

Would I consider this the most authentic place? ...not particularly Does it hit the spot when I want something on the lighter and healthier side? Sure Would I come back again - especially when I'm with a group of friends for a snackpass party deal? ...Absolutely! I finally tried out freshroll and got the vermicelli noodle bowl with lemongrass pork. The noodles were a bit thicker than I anticipated. I also requested for the NamNam sauce on the side. Next time, I will request the sauce mixed in because the sauce container wasn't even to coat all the food....which means that the portion size was a lot more than I was expecting! I also really liked the pork...very flavorful and not dried out. I'm not sure if I would go for that sauce again though. It was too mayo-heavy for me. But overall, I really enjoyed this meal and would probably get the same thing again. It was actually so much food that it served as two meals for me! My friend got a new item on the menu: garlic noodle with chicken. She wasn't the most impressed with the chicken and said it was just okay.

I placed an order through grubhub for two tofu spring rolls because I had a $5 off gift card. The order was completed pretty quickly (within 15 minutes). I waited for my order inside the establishment which consisted of a few ordering screens and some tables and chairs. It wasn't too busy when I went, but there was some waiting involved. The spring rolls themselves were good. The veggies tastes fresh and the tofu was flavorful. I wish they had some type of fresh herbs inside cause it would make them better. The nam nam sauce is soooo yummy and compliments the rolls nicely. I do think that they are pretty expensive at $5 a piece and probably won't go out of my way to stop by here again for this reason. I would recommend this place but again just wish it was a bit cheaper!

Now this is the kind of aïoli I like. Just a little bit spicy and sweet. The honey chicken was good and as a gluten-free person I really appreciate the rice noodles. The broccolini was tasty and so was the cucumber. The purple cabbage was little dry, but that was really my only complaint. There are just three tables in the place and you order from a touchpad. I would definitely come back if I was in the area.

Updating my 2 year old review LOL. Tried Freshroll for the first time my freshman year at Cal, and it has since become a regular choice for me when I need a quick and convenient meal. You can't go wrong with any of the offerings here! They mainly have bowls, sandwiches and spring rolls, and a variety of proteins and (delicious) flavors so you can switch it up. It's convenient to order on Snackpass, and unlike a lot of other places that offer a measly side or drink for racking up points, you actually get a good reward here--12 points gets you a whole sandwich. Cheap, convenient, and delicious--one of my go to spots on south side.

Quick refreshing healthy meal! I finally tried fresh roll after hearing mixed reviews about it. I ordered the Freshroll Bowl with vermicelli noodles, roasted chicken, and peanut sauce (on the side). The peanut sauce is very saucy, I'd recommend only adding 1/2 of the sauce and trying it. I also love that Freshroll offers great Snackpass deals. To my understanding, the bowls and spring rolls are what Freshroll does best. I hope to try their banh mi and other items on the menu.

Was craving a salad and decided to look some places up on Yelp. This place popped up and looked pretty good. You pick the flavors you want, pick your base, protein, and sauce. Or you can make it yourself with your favorite mix ins. I ordered a Saigon Swag bowl w/mixed greens, honey soy chicken, and NamNam sauce. The bowl came with broccolini, fried garlic, pickled daikon/carrots, jalepenos, red onions, cilantro, and cucumbers. Basically everything that would be included in a traditional banh mi. The ingredients tasted fresh and the Nam Nam sauce went well with the salad and other ingredients. I had them add the sauce into the bowl instead of on the side. It was a very fresh and light lunch and I would definitely go back. Better than a "normal" salad. I also got the mint lychee Jasmine tea. It was refreshing and lightly sweetened. You could taste the tea. Would come back again.

Lemongrass Pork Banh Mi

After a weekend getaway in Yosemite, I was desperately craving some substantial Asian food. What better to satisfy this craving than a banh mi? I'm on the quest to find the best banh mi in Berkeley and Freshroll just might be the reigning champ! Using Doordash, I ordered my lemongrass banh mi along with some chicken broth for delivery. Both were superb!! Banh mi's are sometimes a hit or miss in the fact that the bread can be too crunchy and crumbly, leaving a plethora of bread crumbs on the table when you're done. However, Freshroll's baguette is crunchy with just the right amount of pillowiness. Their NamNam sauce (a chipotle aioli type sauce) is also BOMB and might be why their sandwich is wayy better than Nom Nom's which is right across the street. Freshroll is also super generous with the meat and pickled veggies. On a separate note, the broth was also very delicious. Although I couldn't tell if it really took 8 hours to prepare, it still tasted clean and not too salty. I've been reading reviews that fruit flies tend to congregate in front of the brick and mortar store, so perhaps takeout or delivery is your best bet. Regardless, do try if you're in the area!

It's also one of those places that makes you want to stay. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and generous. Every time I come here, I tell myself I'll pace myself... and every time I fail because it's just that good. The burgers are loaded and perfectly balanced, the fries are always crisp (never soggy, which is rare), and everything tastes high-quality and made to order. You have to try the chicken and waffles. The waffle batter tastes homemade and the butter takes it to another level... it's one of those dishes you keep thinking about after. I'll even DoorDash it all the way to Jingletown. The patio setup is really well done... there's a mix of larger tables for groups and higher bar-style seating for smaller hangs. The wooden furniture and cushioned benches make it comfortable, and they've got heaters for colder days and umbrellas when it's sunny, so you can usually pick your ideal spot. You order at the window and then just hang out while you wait... it's a relaxed flow and the food comes out pretty quickly. The staff are always kind and welcoming, and the whole place has a relaxed, homey vibe with really good music. Highly recommend... just come hungry.

Cali Alley is one of those places I have looked at thousands of times when trying to figure out…read morewhat to order on Door Dash or Uber Eats. The food always looked really good, but for whatever reason I always ended up ordering from somewhere else. Well, I finally did it. I finally ordered from Cali Alley, and all I have to say is, why did I wait so darn long? Door Dash was having a 2-for-1 deal on the Cali Alley Burger, so I ordered one of those (and got another for free) , as well as on the small mac and cheese, so I ended up with two of those as well. I got fries as he side for the burgers and saved the second burger and mac and cheese for the next day. I also bought a small side of veggie fried rice for lunch later in the week. OK, let's start with the fries ... wow. Super crispy. Don't know what they do to them, but I think I almost ate all the fries that came with one of the burgers before I even touched the burger. The fries seemed to have a coating like some fries do to make them extra crispy on the outside. Whatever it was, it made them so good, I couldn't stop eating them. I was almost too full for the burger. But who are we kidding? If there is one thing I am good at, it is eating more than I should. The burger, which is described on Door Dash as "char grilled, fresh ground brisket and short rib burger, served on a toasted brioche fun with crisp lettuce, tomato onion marmalade and garlic aioli" was thick and incredibly flavorful. I couldn't stop eating that, either. It was that good. I ordered it medium, and it was pretty pink, but it was sooooooo flavorful, and all the toppings worked well together. I didn't get any cheese on it because I wanted to try to burger by itself and not mask it with cheese. I might try adding cheese next time, but honestly the burger is so good, I almost wouldn't want to cover up its flavor with cheese. Oh, I almost forgot. When you order on Door Dash, you can opt to have them include a small side of their chocolate-chipotle bbq sauce, and I highly recommend that you get it. It's a really interesting flavor and is good for dipping the fries in. I didn't try putting it on the burger, but that might be good, too. The mac and cheese was OK. It's important to note that I enjoyed the flavor but it is more of an eggy consistency than a saucy mac and cheese if that makes sense. It has a nice kick of black pepper, which I liked, though. The vegetarian fried rice was also fine but could have used a little salt. All that to say, don't be like me and procrastinate, get the Cali Alley Burger and fries ASAP.

We shared a plate of the tossed green salad and crispy Brussels sprouts, in addition to two pizzas - Fun-Gi and the Spicy Tomato. The crispy Brussels sprouts stole the show - the deep-frying created a smoky flavor and melt-in-your-mouth texture that was equally loved by vegetarians and non-vegetarians in the group. The tossed salad was decent; the lettuce was heavily coated with oily dressing, which I think could have used more acidity. The Fun-Gi pizza was our favorite of the two pies - the hint of truffle oil and rosemary took this mushroom pizza to the next level. I also loved the light and airy crust, which had the perfect amount of crispiness. I wasn't as much of a fan of the Spicy Tomato pizza; while I really liked the unexpected sweetness from the tapenade, the cashew cream drizzle seemed out-of-place. The outdoor seating also looked very charming, and I imagine it would be nice to dine here on a warm, summer evening.

We had waited about 20-30 mins for a table of 2. We went back inside and there were some tables inside that were wrapping up their meal, but we were called and were given a table outside. My husband asked if we could wait for a table inside and the server said the wait would've been too long. Mind you it was raining, even if there is a covered awning, it was rather cold. About 2 mins later, after we were sat at our table, another group who was not waiting as long as we had, was told they'd be seated inside, just to give them a minute to clean the table. My husband wasn't happy. It is what it is, the place is small and they were just trying to do their best to accommodate the waitlist. Aside from that, service was great. Very nice servers. Food was quick to come to the table and it was piping hot. From where my husband was sitting he could see the owner (he verified it from a server) working hard in the kitchen! Food is worth the price. I wouldn't say it's outrageous pricing, as it's what you would find at other similar restaurants. If you compare this restaurant to Kitchen Story, I believe it out ranks. I had the spicy chicken Benedict, and the only complaint I have is there were too many green onions. That was my fault because I should have asked for it without. I love that you could get breakfast potatoes or tater tots. I obviously got the tater tots, which I did not regret! So crisp and delish! I also ordered the croffle! Never let anyone tell you ice cream isn't for breakfast because this place proves them wrong. Ugh, delish! I didn't eat any of the fruit but my husband said it was really fresh.
