TLDR: Bad fries, no more patio. Came here for the patio. There is no longer a patio. The f? Rolled up to an ugly extension built right over it. Whatever. We were hungry. The food's always been good, so we wait. We were told 10 mins. Things happen and I totally understand but there were several empty booths right in front of us and we watched handfuls of people that came in after us being seated so it was confusing (not something I've ever experienced here before, no clue what was going on. A banquet in the other room or something?) So after waiting for 25 mins we just left to find a patio. Super disappointing change. I'm sure the food is still good. This was a solid 3 stars. The food wasn't bad, some menu items were better than others. My MIL liked the pulled pork and my husband liked the beef on weck but said the rolls were stale. The popcorn was also stale. The buffalo chicken soup was bland with an oddly sweet taste, and the chicken nachos were disappointing - cheese unmelted, chicken a little dry, veggies sparse. We considered dinner but were too full - they did have generous portions. I felt very crowded in the booth with 4 adults and 2 kids. We had a reservation, which I'm surprised we needed at such a low key place, but I felt like they should have given us a table with more room. The tables were all pretty close together, too. I have to mention the takeout containers were Styrofoam. That bugs me in this day and age, we know better and there are much more environmentally friendly options available. Super Mario goes drinking here, hence the name "Wrench Pub". Unfortunately some stuffy men from Bordeaux came in here and insisted that they put Frog's Legs on the menu. And Champagne. And so the locals noticed the increase in pretentiousness and began dubbing it the "French Pub" and the nickname stuck. But to me, and all other Italian bum-bearing plumbers with spanners in our hand (not that kind of spanner, dirty girl), this will always be the Wrench Pub. I want to give it a 4, honestly, but given that it is rated so highly and there are some elements that are not quite a 4 then I'm going to give it a 3 instead. What I like: The place is open late, til 11pm every night, and will serve you right up until that time which is good because a lot of places aren't or won't serve you close to closing. The beef on the beef on weck sandwich is very tender and very delicious, taste-wise it is probably second only to Charlie The Butcher, but a distant second nonetheless. The wings were crispy. The beer cheese soup was pretty damn good. The server was nice. What was just OK: There were long wait times for food and for service but I didn't mind that. The wings weren't amazing, they were just okay. Also for "jumbo" they really weren't that big. The French Onion Soup just tasted okay. What was bad: The French Onion Soup came out completely lukewarm, kind of ruined the experience. $5 wasted. The salad wasn't very good. I think it wasn't fresh enough. I'm not a fan of Caesar Salad anyway but it should be better than this. The Beef on Weck was TINY. Tasted good but way too small. Like a mini from Charlie the Butcher and for $8.99? Really? I thought CTB was overpriced. The roll that the beef on weck was on, was awful. It was either stale, or it had been toasted funny. The horseradish tasted a bit weird, wasn't fresh or strong maybe. The whole dinner left me hungry. I felt like I hardly ate. And the prices... they were already pretty lofty for a "cheap place" on the online menu. But when we actually got there, a lot of things had gone up by $1 or $2. Total bill was $30 and it felt like we hardly ate. I left starving, and my companion didn't eat much at all. The salad was left completely because it just wasn't that good even though we were both hungry. Nevertheless, pretty good wings, good beef on weck on an ok roll, if it's late in the evening and you want some food, this place is well worth visiting. Honestly though and without wanting to be mean to many good friends who gave it a very good rating, I won't be back. But I did get a really nice response to my mixed review from the owner, who obviously cares a lot about his customers, so for that I will bump it up to a 4/5 and recommend that all of you try it yourself and see what you think. Not even if Mario & Luigi and the entire Italian Plumbers' Union begs me to return. The restrooms were nice though. It would be nice to French someone in there. What do you mean that's inappropriate? I came here for lunch on Sunday during a Bill's game. They had a chicken wing buffet out! It was reasonably priced at $12.95 and didn't solely consist of chicken wings -- it also came with two soups: Napoleon Seafood and a sausage soup of sorts, salad and beef on weck. Wings, soup + beef on weck = a true Buffalonian meal. It wasn't too crammed here during a Bill's game. Plenty of room to talk and chat, especially if you grab a booth toward the back (and they have TVs facing each wall). Definitely a cool local bar in Depew -- check it out! read more

I've been coming to the French Pub for probably 20 years. It was the go-to place when my mom wanted to visit friends, and I always tagged along. I go once a month or so, depending on the specials menu. I have always had fresh, delicious food. Never had any problems with anything, food, drink or staff. Over the years, Ken, the owner, has expanded the restaurant and parking lot, which is good because this place is always hopping for dinner Every Single Night. The staff are always fantastic, and I love the ones that have been there forever, like Courtney and Wendy. I used to go to the French pub at least once a week when I lived just down the street from it. We just called it "The Pub". We typically sat at the bar and were taken great care of by their longtime bartender Cory (who's no longer there). Their char-beque wings were awesome and a must order. We even participated in their wing eating contest one year, sadly I did not win lol They had a salad bar with yummy homemade soups and all the usual salad fixings. You could have paid a few dollars for unlimited access to it, or get it for free if you ordered one of the dinner/entree specials. My favorite sandwiches were the French dip, the burger supreme or the chicken supreme. And when available on the specials, I thoroughly enjoyed the turkey dinner as well. I've only been back once since they have expanded/renovated. It was nice and the food was still decent, but for some reason it just didn't feel homey anymore. It felt more corporate, more like a chain-style restaurant. Perhaps it's all the young kids working there now, perhaps it's because Cory is no longer the bartender and there's no longer that familiar feeling... I'm not quite sure. But if their food has stayed as good as I remember them to be - it's definitely worth checking out! read more

I was dining out with 2 friends and brought my one year old too. I ordered a water for myself and a small water for my baby, my friend across the table ordered a Pepsi. She comes back with the drinks and my baby slugs his down. I noticed a brown drop come out of the end of the straw. My 1 year old infant had just drank an entire cup of Pepsi but I had no idea because the cup had a lid. I was very upset. The waitress was apologetic but it didn't help. Imagine a 1 year old drinking an entire cup of caffeine. I was polite but VERY upset and I expressed that to her. I asked to speak with the manager/owner. His words consisted of "it was a mistake and I don't know why you're carrying on about it. What do you want me to do? What do you want a free meal? Not everyone thinks like you do and other people might give their babies pop" I politely told him that I wanted him to know my concerns because I was a paying costumer and he was in charge. I assumed he would empathize with me but since I was a bother to him I'd just never return.... He did comp half of our meal and apologized again but he had already brushed me off and treated me as if I had no right to be upset and as if I was trying to scam them for a free meal. I will never return here again. Poor customer service. Accidents happen but then you're apologetic and empathetic. My one year old was due for a nap now and he's crying and upset and unable to sleep. I feel terrible. I've never met a less empathetic manager/owner. He was just plain mean. I'm pregnant, emotional and felt like I wanted to cry when he spoke to me that way. Total disregard. This is by far one of my favorite restaurants. Recently my husband, daughter and I went out for dinner here on a whim because our power had gone out. Even though it's one of mine and my husband's favorite restaurants we often forget about it or when we do intentionally come to eat here it's always packed so we end up going somewhere else. However, this was a Sunday night and although the place was crowded, it wasn't packed and we were seated right away. Our waitress came straight over, took our drink order and she was by far the best waitress we have ever had, super friendly, courteous and made us feel like we were her only table (I wish I could remember her name to give her some recognition). After looking over the menu and the specials, my husband discovered that on Sunday they have a chicken wing and roast beef on weck buffet, so he was sold. The buffet also included their soup and salad bar, so it was a great deal. I decided on the French Dip sandwich and the daughter of course had the chicken fingers. She also ordered one of their old fashioned milkshakes (cookies and cream). Our drinks came and my daughter's eyes got huge when she saw how big her shake was, along with the metal container of extra shake. We had to real her in a few times so she wouldn't drink the whole thing before our meals arrived. I was allowed to have a sip of the milkshake and it certainly was an old fashioned milkshake, thick, creamy, and chunks of ice cream left in the shake. It was delicious. Since my husband got the buffet, he went up to get his food right away and came back with a plate full of wings and 2 sandwiches. He said the wings were good, typical wing, they offered a choice of BBQ or mild wings. The roast beef was cooked well and was tender and juicy. My food and my daughter's came rather quickly, we only waited like 10 minutes, which is a huge plus. My French Dip did not disappoint, it was roast beef and mozzarella cheese piled high on a small loaf of garlic bread, it came with a side of au jus and French fries. This is not a sandwich that you can pick up and eat so I knifed and forked it. It was delicious, the meat hot and juicy, the cheese perfectly melted. I really enjoyed the garlic bread addition to the sandwich, it added a little something extra to the flavors. And of course per the daughter, the chicken fingers were "ok", no detailed explanation was given on her end. :-) Our waitress came to see if we wanted dessert when we were done with our meal, which we declined as we were stuffed! She came back with our check and special "prizes" for my daughter. Her prizes were a sucker and a coin that she could use for a small toy vending machine at the front of the restaurant (which she was eyeing up when we walked in). I had no idea that they did this for the kids and I thought that it was a great idea for the kids to end their experience with. She excitedly went up to the machine, plopped her coin in and twisted the handle to get her toy. I see what you're up to French Pub and I applaud you. Next time we go out to eat, my daughter will most likely remember the restaurant that gave her a coin for the toy machine and ask to go there. All in all, I love this restaurant. The staff is always friendly, the food is always good and they have GREAT specials every day which they update on their website. I highly recommend this place, whether you're going out for just a drink or dinner with the family. This place accommodates all. read more

Had the club sandwich on pumpernickel on Sunday. Yes, I said pumpernickel. White, wheat, rye, and sourdough are all choices, but, seriously, pumpernickel? How awesome. The pub also serves home made potato chips. They are very good. My 3 year old selected the pita pizza, which is exactly as it soundy. It is a pita, flat, with tomato sauce and cheese. What a nice change for little ones from the normal too hot, too thick, dough that frequently seems to get tossed aside. I was also pleasantly surprised that the kids' meal side was apple sauce, which my daughter gobbled up. The French pub knows kids like foods other than fries! Bonus: our waitress, Hannah, was polite, engaging, and patient. Kids meal price was great at $5, but I thought the sandwich prices were on the medium to high side. read more

Casual, friendly atmosphere. There were 10 of us at a table and it didn't seem to be a problem. I personally ordered the Tuscan Panini and onion rings but there was a great variety on the menu and many of those items were at our table. Everything wasfresh, was well made and presented nicely. Only complaint would be the high upcharge for onion rings instead of chips (got 5 rings for $2.99). St. Patrick Day 2018, my first visit to The French Pub. We hit it just right before the rush and half hour wait I heard quoted on the way out. We were seated immediately and promptly placed a drink order. Guinness and a resurgence breakfast stout, it's St. Patrick's Day after all! Looking at the many options, one page pretty much devoted to Irish fare, we settled on regular grub. French onion roast beef panini and a firecracker chicken sandwich on a pretzel bun. Both options came with the soup and salad bar. The soups- cheeseburger and minestrone made up for the lackluster salad bar offerings, nice house dressing though. Our server was attentive and friendly. Our food came out hot and looked great. I was so hungry after snowshoeing and fresh air, no pictures. I've driven by this place more times than I can count, I'm glad I finally convinced him to stop in. I see more trips in our future. read more

Went here a few weeks ago with friends. We were a party of five women, all of us our 50-65 age range. Food was okay, typical bar food-nothing special. They do have a decent soup & salad bar. Service was rather odd. Four out of five of us are white. One of our friends with us is African-American. She was one of the first to arrive. She had to ask the waitress at least twice to bring her drink. Her food order was placed at the same time as everyone else's, but it wasn't served until we were almost done with our meals. She ordered potato skins, others ordered far more complex dishes. I can't help but think that either the waitress was a racist or this restaurant has a unofficial policy against anyone who isn't Caucasian. Either way, I felt embarrassed for the way that she received shitty service. It was my first and last time at this establishment. read more

This place is in a great location in South Cheektowaga. But if you want a healthier, less artery clogging fare, this is not the restaurant- except for maybe a strawberry salad. In this day and age with everyone trying to make better decisions about their grocery and restaurant choices, French Pub lags sorely behind. Their menu looks like it hasnt been changed since the 80's. A new menu is in order to counterattack the fried this the fried that mentality. On a friday night around 6 me and my boyfriend came here because one of our friends said they have the greatest french onion soup! Boy were they right the soup was absolutely amazing and i've had a lot of different french onion soups in buffalo hands down the best! The service was amazing had a very sweet lady who kept our drinks filled was bery attentive for how busy it was on a friday- i was veey impressed! Free popcorn on the table given to you which i thought was a cute idea my boyfriend loved it! Also we had the fish frys. I had lemon pepper which was delicious and my boyfriend had beer batter! We left so full! And let me just say the parking lot was absolutely packed we thought we were going to have a wait and they got us right in at a great table! "Come over for dinner.", she said and I said "Sure!". After a coffee and a walk around her garden she said " I decided to take you out to dinner as it is too hot to cook!" Here it is the start of my vacation and I am NOT cooking! We drive over to the French Pub. The cool air conditioning caresses our faces as we step inside and are immediately greeted by a hostess, in a lovely seasonal sundress. She seats us, and Erin, our server, comes back several times as we were spending more time talking then browsing the menu. A short menu, not too overwhelming, but some lovely choices, including nightly specials. We both went with the Goulash, something I do not usually order outside of my own kitchen. Soup and salad bar was included with dinner and I tried the Irish Chowder, which I would come back for again, it could be a meal all its own. Incredibly tasty. The presentation was beautiful for such a simple dish. They covered the goulash with extra sauce and then a melted covering of grated cheeses and two slices of gently toasted garlic bead. After a time, when Erin asked about dessert, we were both taking home boxes, and still had no room. Comfy, attentive service, and very good food for a very decent price.
